For people who like making clothes: there’s no reason you can’t just do it because you like it and make stuff for yourself to wear. No need to make it into some big brand if it’s not necessary
I started a brand back in 2019. And coming from the standpoint of actually wanting to be a fashion designer making cut and sew pieces: I see fashion as an art form and I learned ALOT from marketing and doing all production myself. I closed my brand this year because I wanted to obtain better skills and actually build collections of real pieces I’ve spent time working on bettering sketches and I want to come back as something better and I want to build a better brand all together. It was a hard decision because it was really my brain child and I was very fortunate to actually sell pieces. I’ll be back and I will sharpen my skills to be better at my craft
Exactly. Some do not have the the passion for it and Lot's do not think of long term. trends don't always last so it's up to those with a great artist mind to create great clothing.
Getting to pattern making took 3-4 years of prior fibers work to get too. Even then I’m still only on the first group, it takes a lot of looking and I see why people get put in a box.
started my brand in late 2020; went from teespring DTG prints on shitty blanks to now trying to make my own c&s pieces. im very committed on this "im in it for the long run" mentality, and I've learned A LOT so far. I've created my "perfect tshirt" and now im working on a hoodie. luckily, I have a lot of people supporting me & some "big names" aswel, so im thrilled. i also found a mentor and hes been guiding me throughout this journey. --i never really saw creating a brand as a money-grab scheme, rather, more of a way to learn & hopefully thrive in an ever-so competitive industry. so its safe to say that ill be committed to the journey, rather than the immediate results of dollar signs.
its annoying as someone whos wanted to and been designing for years but I realized I just gotta actually be creative and show ppl why I'm different than the other brands instead of whining
I've come to realize something as I've started to make my own designs. At their core, nearly every high-fashion piece is an impact font tee. They all tell a message, whether meaningful or not, that can be summed up into words and thrown on a tee. The least appealing factor of these impact font tees, aside from their germ-like multiplication, is the fact they could be good ideas if they were fleshed out, but they aren't. You can dissect (N) and Yohji and Tornado Mart and possibly find that single sentence that inspired the entire piece, put it into a font, and slap it on a tee. You have the same thing, but one is art, the other is landfill.
@J Thats not exactly my point. But yeah, I agree. im saying that these stupid jpg tees could be great designs if these word prompts were placed infront of the great designers like alexander Mcqueen or Takahiro Miyashita or Denma. people are just too Lazy to take this idea and build it, and would rather just slap the idea on a tee as a "#relatable"
I started a "brand" by accident back in 2019 and its been a super fun ride! Learning about marketing, social media algorithms, design, etc has been invaluable. Also the memes had me dying.
tbh I've given up on internet fashion brands with an exception of rough simmons. I think their ideas and interpretations of old raf pieces is nice and their most recent capsule was really good. There are some other pages that I follow that make faux-vintage funny anime tees. gotta have some fashion degeneracy u know.
@@fashionruinedmylife I think that's the appeal though. It's not trying to pretend to be like a groundbreaking brand that's making a statement. It's just anime fan merch with the design language of raf. Most ig brands try to pretend like they're on a creative endeavor to be express themselves when most are cash grabs. It's the honesty of what the brand actually is that can make or break it
Boot boyz biz is one of my favorite brands. Idk if they’re still underground but no one really seems to talk about them. The designs are really interesting and unique, often inspired by other forms of art
I'm getting ready to start my line got the website in the name of the brand and what it's about got a bunch of burning ideas for t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Crimson Flow Studios is a brand you should rank and check out, they don’t make a ton of tees like everyone else. They kind of have a familiar but unique look
All these social media brands making it big by lazy screen prints and basic stuff, while have no idea how to actually construct a garment, let alone make one. It’s cool that people have the creativity to make stuff like that, but it’s frustrating at times, because real skills and effort and not appreciated as much anymore, not by your normal sorta into fashion person. And to reach an industry high level, you need to reach the masses first, before the big names start pouring in.
If i had to pick my favourite new brand it would be Racer Worldwide. It may look like a typical insta brand but I think the designs and quality are way better.
I’ve had this brand since 2018 and haven’t officially dropped anything yet because I’m trying to learn more about fashion & art. I have a vision for what it’s going to look like in the future but I don’t see myself doing it forever. I’d rather use it as a foundation to venture into different fields.
i dont want to start a brand but would love to start making clothes for my friends and I, we always talk about pieces or graphics that would be cool to have, it also means I can gatekeep the fuck out of my drip
Hey FHTV I would like you to review my work. I started in 2019 but it has been on and off, not fully complete but I want to know if I should continue the collection and release to public and small numbers of people?
I think these types of brands should've stayed as like a one off joke shirt that you drunkenly say you're gonna make after downing like 3 Jaeger bombs. I'm getting sick of this era of IG fashion and I hope it dies off this year. Some brands I think you should rank are like no maintenance and Mona and her huni brand (you can see the binary between these two)
I genuinely have made designs that get people excited, but I don't want to waste time making one-offs for slave pay. God knows how one gets legal protection or a manufacturer.
Society de nobodies fosho one of the greatest brands that came up recently, i own a few pieces from them and its unlike any other brand i have ever purchased from. Quality and design is thorugh the roof.
I see so many people trying or starting clothing brand which I have no problem with) but these people have no passion at all, shit designs, and only do it for the money. It really takes away from the game.
I bought something from satan himself 4GSELLER and it came with a lime green shopping tote thats essentially the same as the James Wallace 6G Bag but with a 4 instead. Who stole that from who
Starting samples for my brand, doing everything from a sustainable view point, if you don’t have a real vision and passion for this shit you’re gonna be in way over your head when you see your manufacturer has a 300+ moq and one piece can run you upwards of 10k. That’s just the clothes, forget about all the marketing, time, research, energy, and other costs that go into doing it legit
Fuck whatever anybody’s talking abt do what tf you want to do. Growth comes with anything no matter what it is. If you want to start a clothing brand do it. Don’t deprive your creativity just because someday said “it’s a bad idea” every decent clothing brand made a decent amount of money.
i swear to god underground brands on insta rn are all the same. i wish ppl stopped copying each other and just let their passion take over and make original shit
No. If you are going to make clothes for the purpose of making money you shouldnt. But if you like making clothes start making them for yourself and wear them and you can maybe sell then eventually.
I’m so tired of the “hoodie with a silly text on the back” type of brand. I can only see myself doing something that I really care about. Doing it for money is compeletly wrong in my opinion. I also believe that people notice when slmething is done with passion and is cohesive, it stands out.
Look it's great to start a clothing brand but if you are just a copy cat and don't have anything in mind you will most likely not make it long term. Don't always follow the trend. You can probably create something trendy yourself if you really put in the work.
my fav underground brands that i've been watching for a while are rangercartel and shineluxurystudios, both very talented and unique. Goated video btw. (I'm typing this with a HOT MODEL S3X shirt on)
Some kid recently showed me his logo and a t-shirt with the logo slapped onto it and he asked me if I would buy his brand. I asked him why I should buy his brand and he had no answer for me. I ended up telling him "I wouldn't and neither will anyone else because you're nobody and all you did was slap a logo on a cheap blank." I told him to come back when he can give me a reason to buy. As brutal as I was, he actually thanked me for being honest.
Short answer: NO! I need an electrician and a reliable plumber💯💯💯💯💯
This is unironically true
Also an engineer, builder and rocket scientist 💯💯💯💯💯

Please do. People do not take this into mind, people will rather follow trends and just create clothing for the money.
I think people forget, being an artist doesn’t mean u gotta be prolific… it’s about how you think
I don’t mind a lot of people trying it out because the only ones that will be successful are the ones with an actual passion for it
