Why is it called knit lovers ,but this is crocheting. I am enjoying the different crochet patterns, but would like to be able to learn to knit.

Crocheting is often called knitting in different parts of the world. I know it can be frustrating. If you are wanting to learn to knit there are some great channels here on YT for learning. I used them a few years ago to teach myself to knit. Are you an absolute beginner to knitting or do you have some basic knowledge. Have you been crocheting, I ask because I crocheted for many years before learning to knit and one of the channels I found useful was Modern Made. The Crochet Crowd was a good one too, even though they have crochet in the name…just go into their channel and look at their playlists and you will find their knitting tutorials. Expression fibre arts is another great one for beginners. Once I got the very basics down, I began looking for various patterns I liked and when I came across stitches or abbreviations I was unsure of, I would do a YT search for that stitch and add “for beginners” or “how to…” and all kinds of videos would pop up and show exactly how the stitches are done. As a Crocheter, I think learning to knit is a wee bit easier because you have already learned about tension but you just need to learn to hold the yarn differently.
I was learning to knit to make things to donate for preemies and angels (babies that die before or soon after birth) because crochet was just too bulky for some of the seriously tiny garments I was making. When hubby saw that I was knitting, he asked me to knit him some socks. Because I was so new to knitting, I had no idea I should be terrified at the thought of doing them and found a basic pattern that I liked and started making him his socks. He loved them so much and I was quite proud of them as well. My first love is still crochet, because it is faster for me and I see my project growing quickly but knitting makes much finer quality items imo so it is simply now a matter of what I am making, for whom and how much time I have to make it lol.
I hope the couple of channels I listed are helpful, but honestly there are tons of them here on YT, just start out searching for knitting tutorials for beginners and you will find a whole slew of channels. If you are wanting to knit something specific, then put that in your YT search, for example knitted hat tutorial for beginners, or knitted baby blanket tutorial for beginners, etc. It can save you some frustration. Good luck!

Thank you. If you keep the stitch count, how do you keep edges straight? My constant challenge. Thank you.

Have you tried using a stitch marker for the first and last stitch? This will keep your edges straight because you are getting your stitches in the correct places at the edges. If you keep the stitch count correct and you are placing the first and last stitch in the correct stitch but your edges are still not even, this can be because of your tension or if you are making a square or rectangle item and it is going outwards \ / it is because your starting chains were too tight and your stitches get looser as you work. Try going up half a hook size up to a full hook size for your starting chain and then switching to the hook you intend to use for your project.
If you are still new to crochet, get some cotton yarn (because it is usually quite inexpensive and doesn’t get snaggy if you have to pull it out aka frogging it) and work on making your stitches and your tension. So say you wanted to make this particular pattern in the video…do the appropriate number of stitches until you get it the size of a wash cloth. Follow the pattern, making sure to keep your starting chain loose. Use a stitch marker for the first and last stitch in each row (it can be a Bobby pin, a safety pin, a piece of contrasting yarn scrap that is a pt least a couple inches long, or a specifically made stitch marker), it just shows you where the stitch goes for this particular project. Crochet as the pattern dictates, and make it so the project is relatively square like a wash cloth. It doesn’t matter if it is perfect as you are working on tension and putting the stitches together but it gives you something useful at the end and is something relatively quick. It can be used as a dishcloth or a wash cloth and if you make a couple in 100% cotton and the stitch combo doesn’t have lots of gaps, you can sew two pieces together and use it as a hot pad to set hot pans/pots on the counter or table…but for that it must be cotton as it will melt otherwise. Practice really is the key to getting your tension even as you work new stitches or stitch patterns. But for the straight edges if the count is correct but your edges are not even , it is the tension. I hope this makes sense and helps. When I first started out, my Mother, grandmother and aunt were teaching me. I had to make squares for the different stitches, some I made into wash/dish cloths and hot pads, others I made into squares that I used to make “sampler” scarves, shawls and throws so I had to keep in mind the sizing of the squares to match up later. This is how I have gone on to teach others in my family to crochet as well. And best of all, no matter how bad the item you crochet looks to you, keep it, because as you become more proficient and you find your tension, etc, you will see your improvement grow after each piece. Good luck!

My question is... doesn't this use too much yarn in comparison to other stitches???
But you do make it look lovely 🎉
I learned to knit in my teens and later learned to crochet... which I absolutely LOVE to do, cos it makes faster progress than knitting imho 😊

Crochet in general uses more yarn than knitting. It’s not just that, it doesn’t drape as well as knitted fabric.

crikey, I totally disagree with your comment... crochet is far more ideal than knitting, especially for the amazing speed and progress achieved in comparison...
