Yea my friends and I couldn't get enough of Dimmu Borgir in 2000-2004. Nick opened our eyes to metal drumming. Incredible musician there and very much ahead of his time.
Nobody does those single stroke fills like him With the same force and clarity. There are faster drummers in the genre but only few manage to be both fast and musical. And Nick is the prime example of that.
One of many great reasons that this man needs a break-- something big again as big as him too bad anxiety gets him suprising but I know the feeling quite well
@@behindthen0thing Yes, I get crippling anxiety to the point I am praying and I am not even that religious, but the bounce back from the abyss has made me such an elegant and aggressive musician.
Absolutely amazing. Fast and precise. Look at the height between his snare and rack toms. How does he pull off those mega fast 32nd singles with that distance? Just awesome.
His fills are so fast and fluid, just on the damn gun! It's even more crazy given his size. I think he's one of the best metal drummers to ever do it. Dimmu's best drummer I would say!
Whenever I go to a Dimmu Borgir live video that is not with him on drums, the comment section is always filled with people screaming about getting him back..... I get it now... Those fills man!
In a dream I had a few years ago I saw a world where Galder quit Dimmu Borgir and was touring Old Man's Child with Nicholas Barker on drums. They were playing Saviours of Doom, I now it will never happen in real life but I'm glad I got to see it.
Nick the one, the strength, precision, technique and sense of time and the music is incredible ... there are many drummers now that maybe they are faster but they can never match the "Barker" style, it is a registered trademark, take him to play to your band and guarantees precision, strength, drive and a lot of class ... long live the metal and Nick Barker! Health!!
Adrian is not a great drummer by any stretch hes a mediocre thrash drummer he was terrible in cradle boring with paradise lost, background noise throughout at the gates entire outing hes just kinda their a big name doing nothing however...nick is everything the entire deal
Who hasn't Nick drummed for.....I saw him with Testament at small venue in Brisbane Australia, when I walked in before it started ,this big bald guy with tatts(Nick) walked up beside me checking the venue out, when I looked who was standing beside me I was like 'whoa!!'..Into the first song the place had instantly turned into raging mosh pit with the all the longhaired metal dudes turning the floor into a no go danger zone \m/...l walked home unbroken and unbruised
I'll never understand how Nick can make metal drumming appear as if he's in a recliner sipping on brandy. I noticed he rarely uses a click track in-ear during live shows. 😮 I guess that's because all the metronome companies hire him to calibrate their clocks. I mean, the whole reason Swiss watches are world famous for their accuracy is because Nick played a gig in Switzerland once. You'd never know this was one of the most influencial and important drummers of the last 25 years, but he's that and more. He loves playing small, local shows, and he keeps his shit low key. But he's a real living legend. Those fills are tighter than Joey Jordison doing a snare roll with torque wrenches.
Самый техничный барабанщик в мире!!! До сих пор переслушиваю cruelty and the beast и следующие 2 альбома dimmu с ним , которые самые крутые в их истории, благодаря Баркеру
this is like a palette cleanser for me. i get some shit, i hear some stupid music, some stupid argument, some stupid problem, whatever. then i watch this tasty drumming for 90 seconds and it's all gone
That's pretty cool, considering he left in 1999 and was playing with Dimmu Borgir at the time. 🤘 Barker is insane. I don't know if it's because of his posture, but his fills look faster than anyone else's I've ever seen. I always wonder if he could be even faster if he was in good shape. Most talented extreme drummer ever for me. Flawless technique.
I saw them in 1996 (!) in Budapest, but back then I didn't know shit about drumming so I did not pay much attention to Nick, I'm so sad about this :( This was the gig BTW: www.setlist.fm/setlist/cradle-of-filth/1996/rockland-budapest-hungary-4bd3db96.html?jwsource=cl
I saw them with nick in 96 in Bradford ' best live drummer I've ever seen and I've seen alot and being a drummer myself I was watching everything he did ' absolutely flawless fantastic musician ' the level of taste and timing he has is unreachable
I'd love to share a bong or two with this guy and just hear him talk about his musical journey since the Monolith days until now. What a fucking legend.
0:30 Other drummers can do this as well, but from his hands it always sounds a bit different..A bit more "special" and clean. Maybe there is some underlying dynamics technique at play.
Listen to that PRECISION. The attention to detail. The TASTE. Nick has always been one of my absolute favorites.

My thoughts!
@@mfKr-cl4rl it shouldn't work but it does
Dimmu was at their finest line up with nick. Same with cradle
SAme with any band that had him. Old Man's Child, Brujeria, Lock Up, etc.
Nick is the best and I miss him with Dimmu...
@@scottwisniewski7372 same here
Dr. Mantis Toboggan M.D. He intensifies any lineup. Especially Dimmu 💀🥁🤘🏼
I remember when footage of Nic was so rare, now we are treated although I'm not a huge brujeria fan.

Not to disrespect the amazing drummers after him in Dimmu, but they've all just emulated the sound he created for Dimmu. He revolutionized that band.
indeed!
Joooooodeeer, amazing, the break at 1:10...Its just perfect!!! Maestro!!!
Whenever I go to a Dimmu Borgir live video that is not with him on drums, the comment section is always filled with people screaming about getting him back..... I get it now... Those fills man!
He was the best for them
It’s not only the fills too, it’s also the cymbal accents, his triplet feel he uses a lot, and just his little nuances. Nick is in a world of his own
his drumming with dimmu inspired sooo many drummers
Barker, Mustis, Vortex were the best musicians in Dimmu Borgir )))
Kings of the Carnival Creation is a masterpiece on drums!
Hes still got it, absolute BEAST

I have just watched Adrian Erlandsson playing this song and it's ridiculous how much better is Nick's work: execution, breaks, smoothness... Legend

¡Una bestialidad Don Nick!
i love this guy
Cool. I always was curious how hard he actually hits on the fast stuff. This awesome!
Years back, when Bostaph quit Slayer because of an injury, Barker auditioned for Slayer but didn't went through because he didn't hit hard enough.

That speed, absolutely genius
this fucking guy :D he is something else,, easily in my top 5
Keep having to rewind that fill at 31, sounds fkin amazing. Crazy precision and speed
Man this dude is up there with Frost, Nils Dominator Fjellstrom, and Bard Faust !
He's fantastic for sure. I think Dominator is still the goat, but the others you mentioned are all great, as is Hellhammer

Nick over-charges everyone around him and i loooooove it!
Is there any technical reason why he is playing with the sticks upside down? i mean, he is holding the sticks by the tip.
👍Делает вещи 🤘🤘🤘
I just realized he's using the butt's of the drum stick so virtually no rebound. No wonder it sounds so powerful on top of Nick being Nick lol
still kick ass! mr nicholas

I agree, there's something special about the way the plays the fills (and the way
he plays in general), It justs sounds way better than others.
Lombardo does the same technique both sounds the same and amazing, I still dont know how they do it
