  • Pornography is a scourge upon society, but is it really affecting the Church? The statistics are nothing short of staggering. Today, we have two special guests from Covenant Eyes who are passionate about helping people quit porn. We discuss why porn has become so prevalent; the dangers of addiction; the descent into even more disturbing forms of porn; and finally, the good news: how Covenant Eyes can help people put it to death! Here at Cooper Stuff, we believe that God wants to set you free from addiction. Perhaps Covenant Eyes can help you in the fight.

Pornography isn't just ripping families apart, it's also ripping the church's testimony apart.

Woman here, married 13 years to a phenomenal man who has come clean many times, openly shared and has overcome the struggles that started when about 8-10 years of age. It has pummeled my heart each time he has fallen in the past, but God has grown me through it. I also became tempted to look at stuff to “learn” in hopes of keeping our marriage together since I really can’t compete with porn. And I tell you now IT DOES NOT HELP TO LOOK AT IT TOO. And I looked at stuff from the 70’s-90’s. I don’t even want to know what modern porn is like. Key is truly being open with the struggles. This stuff thrives in the darkness. And people who struggle with it are not evil. Do not demonize them or they will not seek help and healing.
Also a lot of Christian men think that getting married will cure their addiction. My husband and I waited for sex til marriage and while that helped so much in general, it did not take away the struggles. And it’s not just the addiction but the lies that come with as well. And a lot of the time when I sensed my husband was struggling I would confront and the lies would start or the defense is there. And when the truth comes out then a wedge is out there and the thought is “well if he’s lying about this, what else is he lying about?” A lot of unloving things can be said and felt when someone is struggling with porn. And I will say when a man is set free and is victorious, he isn’t always cured by the temptation. It’s the strength to stay away from it that counts, and Ive seen my man transform.

Thanks for your honesty and words of wisdom.
Temptation is always there and the "promise" of immediate gratification is more accessible than ever.
Satan knows our weaknesses, and everyone is tempted by something. What the enemy blinds us to is the costs of sin and it's certain consequences.
Let us not forget the damage we help inflict upon the people in the porn industry, the human trafficking, the victims of that lifestyle, etc

I know exactly what you mean. I have wished countless times that I had never opened my eyes, mind and heart to sexual immorality BUT I believe the LORD will be faithful in the cleansing of those things from us. I can already see the evidence, in that the things that used to tantalize me now bring the appropriate disgust and Godly shame that indicates repentance.
Thank you JESUS, I am free.

It's not just pornography in and of itself. It's also films and TV shows that display some of the most graphic sexuality in their programs, it's in our literature, and so very pervasive in our culture as a whole. It's all so easily accessable nowadays and it's getting ever harder to stay away from temptation. Not to mention social media sites. It's terrible.

Absolutely. Maybe a person could drop it if they weren't constantly having it shoved in their face whether they like it or not. I was on Facebook for the first time in years the other day, and some of the advertisements there would have been illegal in public, yet I can stumble across it online completely on accident on one of the most visited sites in the entire world (a website supposedly NOT all about that kind of thing according to their terms of service.)

Yes! I’ve notice a trend with shows. Typically the first season of a show has a lot nudity and sex scenes (I assume to get people hooked in with sex) and then the following seasons has much less nudity and sex scenes. Not zero but much much less. I mean even Yellowstone! First episode sex scene, a few episodes later full body nudity, seasons after hardly any sex scenes and the ones after season one were more tame (still inappropriate but not as graphic) then season that’s followed.

This needs to extend further than just our own morality. A society that allows this virus to run rampant is an evil society. We need to fight this in general, not just in the church and among believers. Nobody should be subject to random, graphic sexuality should they just go to some supposedly innocuous websites (social media), or if they take a trip to the store (via advertising/billboards/etc.)

I get it brothers and sisters get exhausted and burnt, though it's that time and place is it really worth it to have accountability after the fact we have fallen and need to tell someone.
There are also times people just take our time to some degree that says enough, this accountability falls off the cliff. Do I make sense?

Even if you're watching a RUclips video of someone in a bathing suit, it'll let your accountability partner know. No reason to fear for others trying to find a loophole though because confession and forsaking sins is the way to life!

30 years...and now finally set free by the Lord. It's very scary when praying doesn't work. A crazy thing I read changed everything. A monk's prayer saying "The thing has me. I fall down, I pray then get up and the thing begins its hunt. It will catch me again and I feel hopeless. I can't pray. I'm defeated. What can I do?" The Lord said "When you fall down you stay there. Immediately get back up and come to me your Father."
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind." (James 1:5-6)
I began walking and praying being very explicit with the Father. He gives a single word "darkness" and I see it in a much bigger way than if I thought of that word "darkness" I feel a little hope and keep coming to Him. God knows me more that I do and I begin to know I can say things I could never say to anyone else. Every day walk and pray. Then I stumble and fall and feel like a failure...but I sense God saying don't stop talking to Me. I would normally think "what's the use" but now I'm knowing I can immediately stand up and continue with God: part of the problem is we want immediate deliverance, but God knows we need to work with Him day by day. So I say "I just love the way the girl looks happy, pretty, smiling..." God says "bondage" and I see her as a prisoner of Satan and weep. This goes on slowly day after day *no matter what!* I slip up...keep taking it to Him. Then I slam my foot down and that's it. Images can show up suddenly in my mind but I will not go to the sites. 3 years free. Still got to ask the Lord to help me when I feel weak and images come. "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, *_casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."_* (1 Peter 5:6)

"Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:11-14)

Honestly, pornography is a big problem that has been known for its way of destroying people and families in so many ways. I want everyone to know that the apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:22 “But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” John is so right, it is through the spirit that those who struggle with pornography can break free from it. The Lord payed the price for our sins. I want christains who are also struggling with porn to know that the lord gets really sad when we all give in to porn. And it gives the enemy Satan, not only a foodhold over you, but it also makes him happy, and YOU DON'T WANT THAT. For all christains and everyone in general, run from lust, and run from porn, and run to the Lord our God. In Psalms 46:1, it says "God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble". The lord will protect you and will help you with anything that you are struggling with in this world full of evil. In Jesus name, I hope this helps people, amen

Other that watching a regular show and there is like nudity or a sex scene and recently I have been FF those.
One thing that helped me realized porn was more than bad is someone pointed out porn is a weapon, it literally leads to ED, and not to sound too gross but when you drain your balls you’re more docile which means your guard is down. It’s so bad for men,
