  • Do you get confused about how a Christian should view politics? Are there “Christian things” on the right and on the left? Is the problem that there are extremes on both sides, and we just need to come together in the middle? As complicated as this seems, it’s actually quite simple. Cooper Stuff breaks down what the divide is over in 3 minutes! The rest of the episode explains how the divide began and how it pertains to our current division.

Look… ratchet has never meant anything other than debauchery and worldly. Lecrae knows this. In fact his early music promoted a pure Gospel message. He helped shape my “gangster” husband.. ex blood member, ex hip hop/ Nas, Beanie Seagal, down with deaf Jam man into a lover of 116 clique to now can’t get enough of Bizzle.. however, when Lacrae went mainstream and said “I’m not a Christian rapper, I’m just a rapper who happens to be Christian” my husband knew what time it was. He had sold out to culture. Look he may say “good” things now and again but so do a lot of people on the wide path.. he puts black, rapper and victim before whom he claims is his Savior and Lord. No just no.

Cooper just read your comment in the episode that got released today and I resounded so much with everything you said. Early Lecrae and 116 Clique were my pump up music for life, and challenged me to Go Hard lol. It bummed me out so much when Lecrae started changing with the world. But what bums me out more is all the Christians who didn't even notice.

Cooper nailed it. I saw Dee-1 address this and I cheered. I own about 4 or 5 Lecrae albums. I archived them about 6 years ago. I saw him transitioning to a race warrior and I was disappointed and disgusted.
What's interesting is he admitted that his crew (Christian friends and rappers around him) had to call him out repeatedly because he was veering off track, he was becoming boastful, etc.
I'm thinking I wish they were doing that now but maybe he has rejected their good counsel.
Lecrae said that he chose to live in impoverished areas so that he could reach the people there. I feel like he surrounded himself too much with hood culture and went down the slippery slope back into carnal thinking.
I'm black and I hate and refuse to play these race games. God tells us not to look at the world through any lens other than the godly lens. Why would we put on racial lenses? Is God not bigger than race?
God is sovereign. We need to stop thinking we need to get on His throne to address the evil in the world. God will do it through our faithfulness to the whole of scripture.

When black churches and Hispanic churches abandon their culture and model themselves after white bland business-model churches, it doesn’t honor God and they’re also not staying true to themselves. When Native Americans worship God in their style, it’s really beautiful while they stay true to their culture. God does not like homogeneity (read Galatians for example).

What else would it mean? "I can quote Cardi", meaning I can listen to her and sing her songs. There's no other way to mean it.
Plus, at best it's going to pique the curiosity of the Christian kids who may be able to listen to him, but not mainstream rap (because it's degenerate, and Cardi is the queen of that)... well now "the nice clean, Christian rapper I listen to really likes Cardi B apparently!"
He knew that he's promoting her music to his followers. Then they go watch her music videos and are exposed to basically soft porn. It's either unbelievable stupid, or purposely sinister.
I let my son listen to some Christian rap here and there. Luckily, it's never been Lecrae but I can only imagine if my kid was a fan of his and decided to go google Cardi B because he saw Lecrae promote her.

Hi John. I know you never read these, but as you said, public statement regardless.
Firstly, you are correct in that we should love people who hold views and say things like LaCrae. But this isn't the first time he's said or been this way. And to be frank, I think the church has given him enough leeway. At this point, he has become divisive to the church and divisive to Christian culture. He's unbiblical and driven by his feelings and not the Word. He's been given opportunity to correct his actions, but rarely does (this case of tshirt being an exception). But his long term actions speak louder then his opinions.
And I think it's time, in love, you have one LAST conversation with him and give your points from scripture.
If he still will not see what he is doing and how it's affecting the overall Christian community...then it's time to do with him what you did to Phil Vischer. Cut him off as an acceptable Christian role model and brother.
It's not easy. It's not our first choice and we give much grace as God gives us much grace. But this isn't just about ourselves or our friendship with that person. It's about the outlook on the overall church and the image of a Christ follower.
My heart breaks EVERYTIME you bring up Plumb. I found her music back when I found yours and you've both been in my rotation faithfully. However, when she made the recent statements and sided with the enemy and sin...then I deleted her from my play list. It's not easy. I LOVE her music. It brought me so some rough patches. But she is NOT Christ in my life. Christ fills the void in all ways. Music and people either propel me closer to Him or try to pull me away. Those that try to pull me away and will not heed correction in love, will be cutoff.
I hope you hear what I'm saying and I appreciate ALL the chances you've given LaCrae. But there is line when we must say, enough. I give you to the world and I pray Holy Spirit is in your ear and draws you back to the truth. BUT that's his choice. And his current stance should not and cannot be allowed to be deemed even remotely acceptable anymore. His actions are clear. Our actions should be clear. And I'm not talking about 'cancelling' him. Or berating him. Or flogging or whatever. I'm saying we need to excommunicate him and allow what happens to happen. Because if he TRULY is a Christ follower..he'll see what's happened, repent to Him and the church and allow for correction. If he's not, then he'll continue to blame the church, the 'system', racism, whatever.
    Thanks!

      @banemaler 11 месяцев назад

Race has a lot to do with why it is so easy for some to walk away from one person today and not another. We cannot show partiality in the way we treat sinful individuals leading others astray.

    • @spacedave2000
      @spacedave2000 11 месяцев назад +3

@@banemaler To be clear, if you're implying the we tend to show more 'partiality' to Lacrae because of his race (as it's a sensitive topic), then I agree. We tend to gloss over it because we don't want to be seen as the 'r' word. However, this is exactly the problem of the church. We need to approach it biblically and equally to everyone. Sometimes yes, circumstances play into it...somewhat. But sin is sin. Race has nothing to do with that. The church must be unified as one body, led by the Spirit and sticking to the Word. Is there going to be sin in that process and brokenness? Sure. But it's not an excuse to allow those that call themselves Christ followers to use Christs name to do sinful and blatant sinful acts. And we do follow Pauls leading the approach and do all things in LOVE. BUT love is NOT allowing sinful acts to affect the church body.

I do believe that if you are going to be on a platform and claim to be a Christian, you got to live it out. Be concise about where you stand, and why. You can't be a light in a dark world by dimming the light and " getting on their level". So now Lecrae just looks like another rapper to me, not much different from any other hip hop artist. I agree it's pretty unfortunate, because hip hop is sort of a thing right now and these guys have a lot of influence on their audience.

Great insight! I stopped listening to Lecrae after I learned of his BLM siding. He's struggling to play both sides. I guess he doesn't want to lose the spotlight of what the secular world gives him; and, at the same time hold on to some Christian beliefs. He leans more toward unbiblical, while at the same time making it sound Bibilical. Basically, he's doing a horrible job at justifying unbiblical "truths". "For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world, and loses his own soul."

As an older person, I can say that had certain events that occurred in the 80’s with the “Moral Majority” not occurred, I would feel more comfortable. The overly tight association between the church and politics was bad back then and that colored the entire church. Admittedly it was a response to rampant immorality (which is far worse now).
However. Today we have left wing people calling themselves Christians and even running what used to be traditional Christian orgs. Most of what people see as politics in the church is a RESPONSE to that fact. The current conflict started with a distinctly leftist movement. Especially calling Jesus a socialist and condemning the church as not caring for the poor which are both huge red herrings.

All candidates are fallible but you can hold the light of scripture against a candidate and clearly create a priority based in Scripture for who gets your vote.

Cooper. Love the work you do in Christian music and your intentions to serve God. 🎸However, Respectfully, I believe that you politicized the words of Dee-1 & this issue between two men of God more than were necessary, and I believe that this conversation should’ve been had with the man/men himself/themselves-especially with this being kind of “housekeeping”. I would love for you to have him on to talk about the intersections of race in American culture & the history of race in the country and his Christian leaning. He’s actually a professor at Tuft University!🎉
    - I believe you took a little bit of liberty in what he was saying to vent your point about a matter that is much different from what Dee-1 was discussing. I believe that he would agree with you wholeheartedly on your stance on Cardi B lyrics, but I think that you took liberty with some of your other discussion that I don’t believe you had to liberty to. 🙂
    - I believe your intentions are pure, but I see a lot of conflating in this monologue. Be blessed. 🙂🙂🙂
Lastly, as a black person myself, I do not want my blackness to be associated with ratchetness but rather excellence! So I really appreciated the words from Dee-1 and I’m praying that people will listen to what Dee-1 was saying and not add to it. 😊😊😊.
And with that no one can erase the trials and triumphs of my people who were in times of turmoil and discrimination, cried to God and prayed to Him. And HE heard and HE answered. Yes, historically the church was a pillar in the black community and it spurred, revival and revolution in America today. That is what I want people to think when they hear and see us. That is the blackness that I wish that many in my community would return to-a race that sought after God. I want everyone to be reminded of the prayers my ancestors, who prayed as they were working tirelessly to build this nation and prayed prayers that I am now seeing fulfilled in my lifetime but not without struggle yet at the same time not lacking hope. 😊😊😊😊😊

I find it amusing that Lecrae only removed the shirt after many others began to call him out on it...seems like trying to save face rather than actually being sorry for the initial decision to put that shirt out. I liked him, but like you, I stopped following him when it became obvious he was being more political than sharing the Christian faith.

I am a huge skillet and rock/metal fan. It was a great honor to be able to meet you guys and attend a show with our friend Dr Brown. I'm very glad that someone is FINALLY speaking up the way the late, great Keith Green did as a voice to the Christian music community/industry. That being said, I do have a question. You've freely mentioned in the past that some of your biggest musical influences are Slipknot, KoRn, and Metallica, among others. I personally have tried to never listen to secular music of any kind and I have only listened to maybe three or four secular metal songs. And that only after I make sure the lyrics aren't awful. I personally only listen to Christian metal bands like Skillet, Love And Death, 7th Day Slumber, etc. I'm curious. What's your stance on listening to say, KoRn? Is it a style thing and you listen to it simply for inspiration for your music? Or do they have "clean" radio friendly versions that you listen to? Cuz I know that the lyrics of some of those songs are nearly as disgusting as the most vile rap songs. Would be interested to know your reasoning. Keep doing the great work! 🤙

Emnity with the world is a significant problem within CHH (Christian Hip-Hop). Artists in this genre frequently try to live both in faith and in the world. They happily quote worldy rappers and do guest features with rappers who peddle murder, drug abuse and lasviciousness. Lacrae is one of the worst offenders and only serves to make matters worse by playing into the black person as victim narrative. It breaks my heart that Americans of African descent are losing their lives, but it infuriates me that people like Lacrae are deemphasizing the ongoing failure of the black community to recognize and suspend the generations long curses of debauchery and hypocrisy that have led and continue to create more victims than anything perpetrated by white individuals. Based on the way in which Lacrae repeatedly presents himself I have a hard time considering him a brother in Christ.

We just need to pray that he comes back to his true faith. If he is a true believer he knows in his soul he can't mix the Bible with the world. We are called to separate ourselves from the love of the world. I just pray for God to heal his heart so he can find his way back to true faith. Love your passion and Christ filled content.
