Skillet's John Cooper Was Once Told to 'Disassociate from Christianity' - His Response Is Beautiful

- Skillet frontman John Cooper recently spoke with CBN News and discussed a 2011 conversation he had with a well-meaning influencer in the music industry who advised him that the best way to help advance Christianity was to stop talking about Christianity. The logic was simple - you won't get as big, rich or famous if you keep talking about Jesus. So, keep quiet now - and later you'll be able to do so much good.
Cooper describes this as a "definitive point" in his life and career, where after prayer it became clear exactly what God wanted him to do.

I've always loved Skillet, and makes me want to support them even more. We must not bow, we must not bend. Be uncompromising of your love for Jesus Christ, HIS word, and our convictions. That's what's makes us Christians and children of Almighty God. HE is the 👑 crown of praise on our heads. What you mean abandon HIM?! Aint no way.

Exactly! Even if someone doesn’t have the same religion as Christians. We don’t mind it.
And we most certainly don’t mind talking about religion with other people who aren’t the same religion as us. Because it’s a new thing to learn about. Even if we aren’t apart of it. It’s okay to talk about. Most people don’t agree to that though. That person that said that apparently doesn’t agree to others talking about their religion because he told him not to. Pffft, people are always gonna put their religion before anything else unless it’s life or death.

i have had the honor and privilege to meet John multiple times !!. the undignified love that he has for Jesus is something I don’t see in the Christian music industry now from other artist. that one of the many things I respect and look up to John about !!. now Lauren Daigle I’m not surprised she fell away. i think it’s ridiculous that K Love and all those stations still play her . I'm not religious and still a huge Skillet fan. I just want people to be who they are and I know their music helped a lot of people through hard times, no matter if they're religious or not.

Praise God! Praise God for the faith and FAITHFULNESS He placed in John Cooper. God had raised him up for such a time as this. If you haven’t listened to John’s podcast, “Cooper Stuff”, I definitely recommend it. John is standing up tall in the land of giants, by God’s Grace. Pray for him and his family as they are swimming upstream.

Saw Skillet at Soul Fest 2022 in Gunstock NH. past weekend not a big fan of his type of music, but his testimony in the middle of the set was spot on. Thankful that he stands for God

I am a huge pan head and most of my favorite songs are faith based like "brave", "lions", "anchor", and the list can go on. The fact that they are a Christian band not afraid to talk about Jesus is what turned me on to them. I am glad that God heard John "whispering in the dark"!

I’m not religious and don’t believe in anything I haven’t seen but I’ve always thought the fact Skillet is a Christian Metal/hard rock band just makes them cooler. Being openly christian seems to be a rebellious thing nowadays🤘🏻.
Exactly it's kind of funny cuz Alice Cooper pretty much said the exact same thing what's more rebellious than rock and roll than becoming a Christian, that is literally the most rebellious most rock and roll thing you can do. So the fact that these industry people are telling them not to be Christian well they're being rock and roll by doing the exact opposite of what the industry says to and that's funny.

Got a lot of respect for John, Dave Mustaine and Alice Cooper and Brian Welch. They all never shy away from talking about their faith in Christ.
Seen them play a Christian concert and a secular show with secular bands and he didn't talk about Jesus at the secular show like he does at Christian shows so he contridicted himself.
I am an athiest and I love skillet. Removing Jesus from the lyrics, is like removing the core aspect of the band, it should never happen.
But to bare your soul is what music is about. Jesus is the defining aspect of a Christian soul, so to bare your soul is really talking about Jesus! Don't stop talking about Him! You made the correct choice!❤
Like I'm not a Christian but I agree with him that he's better being open. Like he's a Christian rock band leader but most people will not realise its Christian rock till its pointed out. Making it the best Christian rock band by its subtly in lyrics.

No religion, no religious belief will ever transform a human being: but JESUS: the human-God link; the living Word of God incarnate in human flesh; the ONLY door--only path--only link through which a human being can access Almighty God can transform human beings. As a human being, one either goes through Jesus or one does not access God.
It’s still a religion. James 1:26-27 says so, but it’s a religion that is undefiled.

So many of his songs do leak to God and Jesus. One of his most popular, Feel Invincible, obviously does. The line “You make me feel Invincible” is such an obvious hint towards his love for God.

My question is, how is it God's will to make John Cooper a rockstar whether he talks about Jesus or not. Plenty of secualr artists talk about Jesus, so just talking about God proves nothing. The bible makes it clear that even demons believe in the Holy one. That being said, I am a real disciple, and personally, we don't have any choice of where we go in life. It's all God. I had to personally give up my ambition of being a musician and instead picked up my cross and now suffer the burdens of my father, who has bed ridden for a practical year. NEVER have I once heard true Christ say pursue fame. NEVER. In fact, opposite. On top of that if I live in the flesh slightly I am attacked all day 24/7 365 days of the week. So this goes out to my brother and sister hood in Christ, if your discouraged at all right now, I want you to know it is far better to suffer for His glory than it is to become some global rock star. Anyways, this comes from someone who has suffered much for Christ's sake,perhaps God does bless some like this. Thanks for listening.
