The most absurd part of this game for me is the fact the plot insists on naming the exact bike you have. Did they have some kind of brand deal? Is a Blackfoot Falcon something the youths of 1988 would know and find cool?

I recently got hold of a Spectrum 128 with a box full of crap games. Including Ninja Scooter Simulator! I have hopes it'll be more Ninja action than his BMX riding cousin.
@@HolyGoddessMotherAnne Never played it but I have a PSX emulator so may try it. I have heard that Road Redemption is a good spiritual successor to Road Rash. It's currently 65% off on Steam.
Well, you could always buy his books about terrible old games. Sure, it's not the same as watching the videos, but it's the closest thing we have right now.
1:10 I HAVE THAT EXACT BIKE!! Tony Hawk Huckson BMX Which is hilarious for this episode bmx is cool, tony hawk is cool... it was really kind of a joke collab with a generic bike company and Tony was kinda just like "yeah ill take the money" but who can blame him?
I used to have a Commodore 64 - what memories you've brought back, including all those long, rainy weekend afternoons waiting for the sodding games to load, playing for two or three minutes before getting bored and waiting another hour or so while another game loaded (not that different to getting a Samsung Galaxy to load up a game now, lol). I was wondering - have you ever come across a C64 game called Chiller? It was loosely based around the Michael Jackson song/mini movie Thriller (game name changed for copyright reasons) and my parents bought it me from a street market for £1.99 in 1985. I could never get past level 2 and the game and computer have long since been sold on (I sold them to help pay for an Acorn Electron to help with my Computers GCSE). The gameplay was sluggish and repetitive as I recall, but would love to see it in action again.
I remember this! I was the only one with a C64, so my brother bought this game for himself on the understanding that he could use my C64 whenever he wanted to play it. He did so twice... and never touched it again. I played it as well... and never touched it again.
It's called "Left Bank Two" by the Noveltones. It was used in a British children's art programme called "Smart" during a slideshow of pictures submitted by the audience. With a certain generation of British people, that's the thing it's meant to evoke. * the more you know *
"So the amex mean here was bowl." "You probably play the role of feel pretty tight of of the confusing takes makes it impossible." God I love the audio transcriber. SO MUCH.
0:44 with CC: "Ninjas are cool" = "With us" "BMX is cool" = "Coal" "Putting them together will make double cool and sell games" = "Yeah" "MAKE IT HAPPEN" = "Hi"
It's a reference to a British TV show called art attack where there was a section where the presenter would look at childrens paintings with that music in the background
It occurs to me that Pookie is training with a freestyle team and is an 'unofficial' BMX Ninja...but he STILL has 'ultimate street cred'? I guess it's worth less then it used to be...
And Ashens aged ...something... sent in this fantastic review of a terrible old game I've probably never heard of. I particularly enjoy the 'smART' reference.
It's strange that this game has "ninja" in the title, because British censors were infamous for censoring the word "ninja" in foreign products (they renamed Ninja Gaiden "Shadow Warriors").
The tune was used as the 'gallery music' in several different kids' art-themed BBC TV programmes over a 45 year period. If you ever need to find out how old a British person is, hum the tune and ask them which programme it's from.
Excellent video as always. Love the reference to smART (takes me back to my primary school days). My sympathy is with you Ashens, I mean, you could have bought 199 penny sweets instead of that game, or 39.8 of the 5 pence Chemical tasting Strawberry sweets.
I liked when you said "one of the pictures of gangsters on it" and the transcribe audio thing misinterpreted it as "one of the pictures of taxes on it".
The title "BMX Ninja" makes me think of the 1983 Australian movie "BMX Bandits". Because I'm weird and I watch Diamanda Hagan, and thus I know who Brian Trenchard-Smith is.
Love the use of the '06 Cyberman voice for that bloke in the meeting.
Yours Sincerely, the official board of BMX Ninjas.
Oh my God. I just went to Alternative Software's website, and they claim to be "Celebrating 30 years of excellence".

"33 years" now.

"Putting the together will make double cool and sell games. Make it happen!"
Says the Cybermen meeting room.
I can only assume "the ultimate reward" is receiving sucess from your girlfriend.
ChickenPika It's an extra life. She holds up a sign with "Extra Life" on.
ChickenPika No. It is sex.... But it is not shown in the game.
+ChickenPika She slowly removes her clothes until she holds up a sign that says "Extra Life"

+Dale Cooper also did not realize how old those comments even were
A ninja riding a bike.... named Pookie..
I can't tell if he's serious or not when he talks about the children's drawings
But in seriousness the one he picked is actually quite appealing
Ashens, please bring these back. They were the shit, and I haven't even grown up with these computers!
Please some one tell me what that fantastically titled game "Rockstar ate my hamster" entails. I was almost certian that Ashens would have at least mentioned it. But sadly he didn't.
+Josh Brubaker You manage a fictional record company I think. Choose what songs to put out etc. Guru Larry liked it in his review.

The most absurd part of this game for me is the fact the plot insists on naming the exact bike you have. Did they have some kind of brand deal? Is a Blackfoot Falcon something the youths of 1988 would know and find cool?
Not sure, don't think that's a real brand though. It just seems like world building.
just looked at alternative software website and it says on the home page: 29 Years of Excellence. I kid you not!
"An Excellent Software Company"
"An Excellent Excellence"
You didn't notice that your girlfriend's blouse was opening up a little in level 2?
+Paula Johnjohn Probably because her boyfriend calls himself a bicycle ninja.
Justin Hall I wonder how his mother dresses...
Did you know, The more you progress in this game your girlfriend slowly strips till the point where she's wearing nothing (but its covered by a sign saying (extra life) and the last level is set outside a strip club with half naked ladys all over the background and lara croft is standing tere
...Are you for REAL?
***** Oh my god.
So the "ultimate reward" was half assed pixelated masturbatory fodder? Jeez
It actually happens thought they don't have the guts to actually show anything overtly.
So it's a bit like Menace Beach for the NES in that regard.
ahh, that beutiful LittleBigPlanet soundtrack
Was actually referencing Art Attack, a children's show, and when the presenter would showcase the art viewers made, that music would play.
***** :D
PUTTING THEM TOGETHER WILL MAKE DOUBLE COOL AND SELL GAMES.
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
These children draw better than me. Shame.
Well, you probably draw better than my European friend.

This game pioneered the technique of filling in the black bars that you get when you have a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 screen.
What a pioneer.
Surprised this wasn't called "BMX Hero..."
TMNT reference - GG
I recently got hold of a Spectrum 128 with a box full of crap games. Including Ninja Scooter Simulator! I have hopes it'll be more Ninja action than his BMX riding cousin.
After watching this, I want a actual BMX game with ninjas riding on bikes that is a mix of Road Rash and Twisted Metal.
I loved Road Rash, still do til this day.

"ninjas are cool" "bmx is cool" "putting them together will make double cool and sell games, MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!"
I laughed sooo hard :D:D
Does this have any relation to the Atari 7800 classic _Ninja Golf_?
Damn you, modern copyright law! "BMX Ninja" is a totally kickin' name for a video game, and now no-one else can use it.
I like how for the people at the boardroom he uses a cyber man voice.
I wish he still made these.
Well, you could always buy his books about terrible old games. Sure, it's not the same as watching the videos, but it's the closest thing we have right now.

the ninja part in BMX Ninja is that you won't appear on heartbeatsensors in this game if the enemy has equipped it.
The first HD video on the channel. And still rocking 720p all these years later.
That's a fun little fun fact.

"Rockstar ate my hamster"
WTF...?
00:30 Dead or Alive? Obviously not the fap-oriented fighting game... right?
That SMart reference brought back memories :) RIP Mark Speight.
This is my favorite of Ashens' series.
The tune is called "Left Bank Two" by "The Noveltones".
It briefly pops up on the subtitles :)
How on Earth did you make those Cybermen voices? The first one was spot on for the new series.
Unbelievable that the company is still in business when so many great developers folded.
"you play the role of feels-pretty-tight" xD
Ahhhh. Wonderful! The drawings took me back to Tony Hart.
Good to have you back Ashens. It's been a while since you made a video
The bizarre concept of combining both Ninja and BMX and yet not executing it well.

5:16 Is that the "Left Bank Two" music from LittleBigPlanet!?
It surely has to be.
It's a reference to a British TV show called art attack where there was a section where the presenter would look at childrens paintings with that music in the background
It comes originally from Vision On with Tony Hart and was also used in the later Take Hart.
Art Attack was the ITV answer to the BBC's SMart, actually, which was the show that used the music.
Bunny (∞) It never did. Only Tony Hart.
Everyone needs to watch this with closed captioning on. It's hilarious.
I'm so hungry for your videos, I watched this one all the way through even though I'd already seen it. :-(
