Legacy: A Mormon Journey is a 53-minute film produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This LDS film Legacy is an American History depiction of the life of converts from the 1830s to the 1890s. The characters are fictional, though the events they experience are historical.
Legacy follows a flashback story line of the hardships and persecutions of a pioneer young woman on the American Frontier. It depicts her spiritual journey and conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ as she reads the Book of Mormon, finds her faith in God, despite family difficulties, and ultimately is forced to leave her home to head to the unknown Salt Lake Valley. Even on her journey on a wagon train into the wilderness, as her husband is commissioned to leave with the Mormon Battalion to fight in the Mexican war, she remains full of faith in God. Her husband does return to her unharmed and the movie ends with a flash forward to the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple.

Remember watching this the first time and really enjoyed it. The main problem now is that I have researched the churches history, and this candy coated version does not match up with its true history as it leaves to many of the nasty parts out.
As in most of history. It is written from one perspective.
One of my ancestors knew Joseph Smith. His name was James Henry Palmer. He touched James on the head and said "he would prosper." My ancestor tried to fight off the mob that murdered Joseph. He saved an overturned wagon in the Plait River. Brigham Young married my ancestor to his second wife. This was still when polygamy was allowed. It's forbidden now to marry more than one person in the Church and in the state of Utah. This is one of my favorite movies.
Still doctrine, maybe not in this life now, but it is in the next life. Pres Nelson is sealed to two of his wives.

Casting extras in a movie with a tight budget. That's probably the answer.

@@SadisticSenpai61 not that weird. It's just including more history into the representation. If all you have are forty white folks showing up to be extras in a movie and the director wants the most bang for the buck you use two dollars worth of stage make-up to get the shot you want
Its a budget issue and a director's two second decision to get a larger population sampling in the shot.
It's simple math and casting on a budget. You use what you have available from the cast that shows up. Being an extra is like a 50 dollar paycheck. It's really not that big of a deal.
