- This film was produced as part of the 150th anniversary of Brigham Young's first arrival to Utah in 1847.
Four years after the Church was organized, the Prophet Joseph Smith met in a small log schoolhouse with priesthood holders in Kirtland, Ohio, and said: "Brethren...you know no more concerning the destinies of this Church and kingdom than a babe upon its mother's lap. You don't comprehend it. . . . It is only a little handful of Priesthood you see here tonight, but this Church will fill North and South America -- it will fill the world" (Wilford Woodruff, in Conference Report, Apr. 1898, 57).
An Ensign to the Nations examines the the worldwide growth and expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Filmed in several countries, this one-hour video tells of Saints in Europe, the Pacific Islands, Latin America, Asia, and Africa that have helped the Church to flourish.
This was my favorite Church movie as a child. I am so grateful to still be a part of being the Lord's work 25 years later, helping to gather souls to Christ.
Baptised 2006 England thank you my missionaries for bringing the truth I felt it then my body testifies to me the truth to this day. THANK HEAVENLY FATHER IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN 🙏
As a new member of the church, I am glad to be watching these videos about the history of the Latter-day Saints.
I love the history of the Church. I am so very grateful to find this video. Those were days of great faith, strong belief, and willingness to sacrifice for the vision shared at that time by so few.
The picture quality is very good. It looks like it has been enhanced or restored. I love to see this kind of devotion-taking seriously the preservation of priceless Church video resources. Thanks so much for posting this! 🙏🏼 💛
This video is without doubt a true blessing . I have never been humbled more . Thank you .
This movie came out the year I began my mission. I saw it for the first time in the mission field. I liked it so much that I used my own money to order a copy from the mission home. I was the only elder who owned a copy, and in many areas, it was only because of my copy that members and investigators got to see it for the first time. I was always touched the most by the story of the Maori and, most of all, the story of the Korean graduate student. I love this movie, and I didn't realize how much I missed President Hinckley until I heard his voice again. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting this. I hope we all share it.
I too was serving in Argentina Neuquen in 1996-98 and miss President and Sister Hinckley. We saw this and translated it for our companions. Need a better thumbnail though. Do you remember all of the ensign articles about the sesquicentenial? That got old, but now our kids do the Trek and it makes me jealous that we never got to. Regards.
Thank you for sharing your comments too.
A great video that invites the Spirit
This brought tears to my eyes so many times. Thank you for posting. I never saw this before much less heard about it. Reminds me of D&C 128:22 "Brethren, shall we not go on in so great a cause? ...Let your hearts rejoice!..." Thank you!

It is hardly filling the earth. 18 million members is nothing.
@@rabbithole2015 It’s actually quite noteworthy for a church that started with 6 members and was predicted to die off if and when Joseph Smith was eliminated.

its now 2021 the Church of Jesus Christ in these latter days has reached almost 18 million saints. We now work to usher in the 2nd coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hurrah for Israel !!!
18 million is a very small number of people and the percentage of growth is dropping every year. They also fail to mention that of those 18 million there is even a smaller percentage that are active or even consider themselves members. It is growing but at a very slow rate.

Thanks for this video. Proud to say my ancestors came to live in Illinois from Sweden by boat and helped build the Nauvoo temple. Moved from Illinois, over to Bountiful, Utah where they settled and stayed (for the most part)
Thank you very much for sharing great work of the gospel and I love watching the videos and learn so many things for our Prophet and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.I am grateful for the gospel and blessings that restored upon me and this video and learning that I gain here that add to my testimony.
I remember he was the Prophet of my conversion to the golpel and church back in Feb 1995. Now I am a full-time inactive member. I still love the restored church of the Lord.
The very same here too he was also the prophet. I’m an inactive member seeking to return after many years. I remember the joy and peace the church brought to my life.
being member and former full time missionary it is very inspiring to heared and story of early saints in every land in the world ..everyone us huge part of history of restored church
Thank you for sharing this wonderful history of our church. I don’t recall seeing it before.
SO MUCH NEEDED, THIS BEAUTIFUL REMINDER OF OUR BELOVED CHURCH LEADERS. SO HUMBLING AND INTERESTING TO SEE THEM IN THEIR YOUNGER YEARS. THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IS A SAFE PLACE TO FIND THE MOST PROTECTING PEACE DURING THE HORRIBLE DISRUPTIONS THE WORLD (GLOBALLY) IS IN NOW. REMINDS ME OF THE SCRIPTURE THAT OUR LORD WILL GATHER US UNDER HIS WINGS, SECURING EVERY ONE WHO SERVES AND HONORS HIM. HE IS OUR MAJESTY, HE WAS THESE DEAR ANCESTOR'S MAJESTY. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS "ENSIGN TO ALL NATIONS," THAT ALL MAY BE REMINDED.

I have become inactive and had doubts about the testimony of Joseph Smith and the church. I had a revelation Joseph Smith was a Prophet and the church is true. It has restored my faith. Thank you for posting.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is that the only way to be made right with God is through Jesus Christ and the blood He shed on the cross through Calvary, not by temple work, ordinances, commandments, tithing, doing good works, going to church, baptism, facing Mecca, lying on beds of nails, fasting, etc..
Romans 3:28
For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Eternal life is a free gift.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the FREE GIFT of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 3:24 being justified as a GIFT by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Jesus Christ canceled the record of debt that was held against us. All you need to do is accept Christ by faith. It isn't because of who you are and what you have done for God.
It is because of who He is and what He did for you in sending Jesus to be the sacrificial offering for your sins.
To be your substitute on the cross and to satisfy the demands of God's law that stands against you.
Christ has done the one work that was necessary to reconcile you to God. Christ has done the one act of righteousness that could bring justification and life to all men. All Christ is asking with open arms is for you to lay down your religiosity and works
at the foot of the cross and allow Christ to take it.
Salvation is quite simple.
Luke 18 And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’
13 But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’
14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Your statement makes no sense
First and Third, the church didn't yet receive the authority to perform the temple's function. That's why Elias (Possibly King Melchizedek: Genesis 14) and Prophet Elijah (2 Kings 2:9-12) came..
Second, The decentralized nature of the God's Church allows Temple designers to have as much authority to specify the design of temples as Moses, David, or Solomon. The LORD is quite capable of sending instructions to those designers through the Holy Ghost, the Other Comforter (John 14-16)!
In short, I don't see the problem!
PS: You did notice the clues, right? (Verse 12: Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham), (Verse 13: Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death).

Temples: Old Testament Trivia about Modern-Day Temples in Last Days
When Utah was established as a state, the Mormons requested that the state be named "Deseret". The U.S. government, in spite of the Mormons, named it after the Ute Indians and called it Utah. Little did the government know that they had fulfilled prophecy, for the Indian name "Ute" translates to "top of the mountains" in native Ute Indian language. In Isaiah 2:2-3, we see that "And it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the tops of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it." This is a direct scriptural reference to the Salt Lake Temple, which is surrounded by mountains, has people from all over the world traveling to it all year round, and is located in a place that is named "tops of the mountains"
- not by the church, but by the Indians and the US government. So, the above scripture accurately translates to "...It shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in Utah...". The temple construction had been completed in 1893, but the state of Utah wasn't named until 1896 by the government.
Thank you for sharing this rich collection of temple-related scriptures and other notes, James! Thoroughly enjoying!

What this video doesn't mention is that a lot of this "growth", especially in South America, were people that were hastily baptized and quickly left the church.
That’s true that there are plenty of less active people and plenty of people that don’t even recall or grasp the reality of their baptism in South America and elsewhere.
