I always love the idea of how martha and the tenth doctor met in Smith and Jones! It's funny to think that if martha hadn't gone into work that day, or the doctor hadn't decided to investigate the hospital, then things would have turned out very differently for not only series 3, but the earth itself! Great video, thanks Ellie and Who Culture! 😊😊
Thinking about the title of that episode... Was it in homage to "Alas Smith & Jones". Probably not, but I like to imagine it is. Would've been funny to see The Doctor and Martha doing a sketch like Smith and Jones where they say ridiculous things to each other over a table top.
"This isn't war. This is pest control." Whodda thunk Daleks could be funny? I think Troughton, Davison and Eccleston had it hardest. Troughton had to introduce the idea of regeneration, Davison took over from the Doctor who'd been there for 7 years, and Eccleston had to start NuWho.
About 3, technically 8th doctor didn't influence regeneration, as a person who read like 20 pages of Day of the doctor novelisation, I can say that this was a hoax(basically there was same onion in the drink "I had 20 minutes to prepare a scene" if I recall correctly)
William Hartnell's declining health and fluffing his lines is undoubtedly one of the major turning points in Doctor Who history - leading to the concept of regeneration and allowing the show to continue when the lead actor moves on.
If the 8th Doctor had landed anywhere else, other than Karn the Time War would have played out differently. Remember, in The Doctor's Wife, the Tardis tells him that although she didn't always take him where he wanted to go, she always took him where he needed to go. I think landing on Karn was less of a happenstance than it seems at first. Now, how the Tardis KNOWS where The Doctor needs to be, is another question altogether.
One thing about cutting Harriet Jones' reign short was that the Master was already in place with Archangel on the way. The next time she was up for reelection the Master would have taken over. By the Master or the Doctor, her Golden Age was over.
I don't ever remember seeing why Rose was in the basement. Don't remember her being handed the lotto winnings. Was that cut from streaming rebroadcast?
It could also be argued because of Harriet being kicked out it also lead to Brian Green becoming prime minister so is he partly responsible for children of earth?
I honestly don't think the salt at the edge of creation was as important as the show makes it out to be- we've had plenty of supernatural entities since teh beginning. The Toymaker is from the first doctor era, and any of the entities we've seen in the most recent series would've fitted in anywhere quite easily well before the salt thing. We've had creatures that use words instead of science, we've had the black and white guardians, we've had a frog from another dimension- I'm sure there's a lot more. Maybe the salt did nothing except confuse the no-things for a couple of minutes.
I'm glad you got your voice back, Ellie. What if you all made a fan based episode in which a stray Dalek death ray missed its target, somehow left the Whoniverse, and struck in central London just outside a major landmark? Then Ellie, Sean and the rest could do a scene full of adventure and low-budget mayhem.
Love the mention of Salting At The Edge of the Universe as, should all go well, I should be getting the triple DVD set of the 60th Anniversary specials by the end of this weekend and am VERY much looking forward to watching all 3 specials back to back without needing the internet to do it
You say without the meta-crisis doctor, Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor would never have been on his final regeneration… but that’s been retconned. (Much to my dismay) The Doctor is infinite. He doesn’t subscribe to any of the limitations of the Timelords as he’s not a Timelord, he’s a supreme immortal interdimensional being that the Timelords themselves based their culture on. (God, that’s stupid) it means, River Song couldn’t have murdered the Doctor the way she did, and it means 11 would always have regenerated at the end of his life, without the involvement of the Timelords of Gallifrey… and everything about the stories of the 11th and 12th Doctor’s lives and regeneration cycles are completely void and meaningless, despite being some of the best NuWho so far… WHY DIDNT DAVIES RETCON CHIBNALL’s RETCON? All he’d have to do it say it was the Master, not the Doctor… it would actually make sense with the Master’s story!!! Why oh why!? 😅
What about an almost-same-titled video… but with real world events? Like… - the decaying health of William Hartnell - the TV in colour - Chris Eccleston not joining for the 50th I mean, there are surely at least 10 or more events that impacted and shaped the series after that event, right?
I’ve watched Dr Who from the very first episode in 1963, but I think since 2018 it’s so removed from the original concept such that the time has come where I choose to remember Hartnell’s Doctor. Reread First Doctor Target books, and any new First Doctor novels like Byzantium by Keith Topping and the Witch Hunters by Lyons Steve, Ten Little Aliens by Stephen Cole and my DVD collection. For me Whittaker was bad enough, but Gatwa’s incarnation grates on me even more so it’s time to stop watching new-Who.
When the Doctor first met the Daleks it was millions of years in the future according to the first Doctor when they met the Daleks again in Daleks invasion Earth he told Ian when he asked how there were Daleks when they were destroyed on Skaro
Let's also not forget that the Doctor deposing Harriet also contributed to the events of Children of Earth and how the British government responded to that. Would it have played out differently if Brian Green wasn't the prime minister and would John Frobisher and his family still be alive if the prime minister hadn't tried to force him to hand his children over to the 456?
