      I loved that show too. Watched every episode. I DID notice the Dalek, though I don't think it was because the company the characters worked for was evil. In fact, I don't really think it was evil at all; it just happened to create a lot of products that didn't work/could be misused. And if I remember the context of that scene correctly, that room was filled with failed creations. The Dalek's inclusion was meant to be a bit of a joke by not even mentioning its presence.

    After I became a Whovian and started paying attention, I noticed that classic DW and Red Dwarf overlapped by 2 years. RD came out in 1987 (as did Star Trek the Next Generation), while DW was still in production. (Had already been a Trek and Red Dwarf fan for years.)

He didn't intend watching it, but when he came home between seasons (IIRC - this was a _long_ time ago!) he stumbled across it and thought it was freaking hilarious. Things from Doctor Who can actually be seen in a book for children called "Animalia." The book was written by Graeme Base and it is basically a picture book that goes through the different letters of the alphabet and shows pictures of things that start with that letter. If you look under D then you will see a picture of a Darlek and one of the Doctor's earlier incarnations.

    Criminal Minds- two main characters Reid and Garcia are huge Dr Who fans. They are off to a convention in one episode in classic and new Who costumes. Reid even says "I've been knitting this scarf for weeks." A different episode has Reid unconscious in hospital and Garcia brings in his Who action figures to cheer him up when he wakes.

    The Better off Ted reference I think was directly pointing to 'Dalek', the brilliant 9th Doctor episode. in B.O.T. the Dalek was in the basement of an evil corporation which tracks with the DW episode pretty well. It's even the same color Dalek. The timeframe matches up.

    Don’t forget “The Gay Daleks” in many episodes of Victor Lewis Smith’s TV Offal. Not sure you could show a clip of them though…

    Great list. This reminds me that Michael Moorcock’s multiverse in the literary world, not television, had a Doctor Who crossover,: The Coming of the Terraphiles.

    7:17 I've got a Doctor Who head-fanfiction-type-thing where my Time Lord, the Courier (name inspired by Fallout New Vegas), travels around in a port-a-loo, so that one is really cool to me, I'm not the only one to make that connection, love it

    5:30 That's me. I'm the person who has both heard and seen "Better Off Ted". Honestly didn't even remember this show existed until it was mentioned and definitely don't remember a Dalek in the background.

    Young Sheldon is connected to The Big Bang Theory? How?

    • @mrwittyone
      @mrwittyone 6 месяцев назад

      The Big Bang Theory was about four nerdy twenty-something guys who were scientists. One of those characters was Sheldon Cooper, a genius - though an annoying one who frequently got on the nerves of the other three. Young Sheldon focus on the character when he was a child. As Ellie said, it was a prequel.
