  • We’re so excited to finally share our FAVORITE NATIONAL PARK of our 2019 travels!
Check out part one of our adventures in Glacier National Park!
    ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Click Show More ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
After Moab, Utah, we started working our way North to one of our primary targets for the summer of 2019: Glacier National Park!
Glacier National Park is definitely our favorite location of 2019 and maybe our favorite in all of our travels so far! Okay.. Maybe Maine and Acadia National Park is a tie or close second place.
In our travels between Moab and Glacier, we did make a couple of stops along the way.
    - Idaho -
First off, we had no idea Idaho is such a beautiful state! We were impressed!
Our first Idaho stop was in Twin Falls, where we explored Shoshone Falls and Dierks Lake. Shoshone is known as the “Niaga of the West”. To us, it was an amazing waterfall, but nowhere near the grandeur of Niagra. Perhaps it has more water over it at different times of the year. Still impressive nonetheless!
We cut our visit to the Twin Falls area a bit short and took a detour to Boise to attend the CVMA (Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association) National Meeting and get patched in as a full member! Meetings and music and beer! 🍺
After that detour, we headed up to a small town called Grangeville. We stayed at Bear Den RV, just outside the small town. Our stay there happened to fall over Independence Day, which was perfect as we got to head into town ad see the local parade.
While we were there, we also took Lucile out for a little exploring. We headed north on state road 13 to state road 14, which took us along a river along some taller mountains and some very awesome scenery! Add yet another beautiful ride to our list!
    Idaho, we will be back!
    - West Glacier -
The route to our RV Park was a bit nerve-wracking. When planning the route to our destination, we used google street view to get a feel for the route from the main road to the park. (see our planning and GPS video for more info: • RV Trip Planning | RV ... ) That route (the ONLY route) had a train overpass that was very clearly marked 13'6″! Our RV is….. 13'6″! So, we approached this juncture with a bit of anxiety as we were not completely sure we were going to fit. However, we made it through without tearing anything off the roof with a bit less than an inch to spare!
We stayed at West Glacier RV Park and Cabins (www.glacierparkcollection.com/lodging/west-glacier-rv-park-cabins/). It was a brand new park, having only opened a couple of weeks before our arrival, and was very nice! Extremely large sites and walking distance to West Glacier Villiage. At only 0.7 miles to the park entrance, this place is a winner!
    - Glacier National Park -
Our first couple of trips into the park were just along Lake McDonald, then another visit to Apgar Villiage just inside the park entrance. What a beautiful park!
On the next clear day, we got Lucile out and headed to Logan Pass! HO-LEE-COW! Neither the words on this page nor the video above can even come close to doing this justice! It was absolutely INCREDIBLE!
Heading up Going-To-The-Sun road, there's a hairpin turn, then climb, climb, climb. About 3500 feet up the mountain. Every turn brings yet another spectacular view!
We stopped at the pass for a break, then headed back down to see everything again from the other angle. WOW!
We had so much to see there, we had to split this into a two-parter. So, stay tuned for part two!

Loved the bear discussion from this video. I was riding with a friend on the Skyline Drive in late May/June. We saw at least 4 bears during this trip. One became angry as we passed and stood up along the side of the road. Thank you guys for posting all of your adventures.

Great video, we can't wait to take our kids to Glacier national park someday. My all-time favorite ride is from Lewiston ID to Missoula MT. It's 218 miles and takes around 4-5 hours! So many amazing curves and views of the Clearwater river. This is also the route the Lewis and Clark expedition took.
There's a road sign on the Montana side as you enter Idaho on highway 12 that shows curves ahead (the snake sign) and below it says for the next +99 miles. Wife grabbed a picture of me in front of it with all my riding gear on and a big thumbs up. We've done this ride on multiple motorcycles over the years, it will never get old.
We're looking forward to part two of Glacier national park!

What a beautiful ride and location. That's exactly why my wife and I want to do the full time RV life. Back in the early 2000's when I was posted to and living on Canadian Forces Base Petawawa in the private married quarters (PMQs) I came home from work one day and saw tire tracks in my backyard. Long story short, it turns out that the MPs had chased a black bear through the backyards and then between my house and the neighbour. Bears were common in that area and in fact bear traps were placed throughout the PMQs. You just learned to live with them and all the wildlife in the area. Don't worry Tara, Chad's got way more meat on his bones. The bears would go for him first, lol! Here's a hint: you just have to run faster than him!! :)

Bears are actually far down on the list of things that will hurt you out in the wilderness. We camp/road trip northern BC, Yukon, Northwest Territories extensively as it is our back yard. Over the decades we have seen many, many bears, often double digit counts in a day but have never been attacked either camping in our Teardrop or hiking. Except for grizzly bears on which not much works, we find an air horn is faster to deploy and more effective than spray. Another nice and well shot vid, thanks.

i was born on Flathead Lake. You were in my old backyard. One of those tall peaks may have been Triple Divide Peak. Water flowing off the north side empties into Hudson Bay Canada. Water flowing off the east side goes down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico. Water flowing down the west side goes into the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. Only place in North America that it happens . Thank you for your service.

We hiked the garden wall trail. Definitely felt like a flat lander tourist. The mountain goat’s could see you coming and run up above the trail. When you walked underneath, they would roll rocks off the cliff and try to hit you. It’s probably the most exciting game they play. You can hang out in one of the wider spots to see the action. Some things you only see if you slow down and observe

Hubby and I have ridden some amazing roads in our 10+ years together, and LOVED that feeling when the curve you are slicing opens up to a breathtaking view. As we prepare to go toy-hauling full time, I’ve been worrying that once we are able to visit 100s of national parks, we will start taking the views for granted. It was great to see how much you guys enjoyed Glacier. You don’t seem to have lost the ability to be amazed by the beauty.

The reason that there was so little water at Shoshone Falls is a lot of the water is used for crop irrigation upstream of the falls. When the irrigation season ends, the falls are amazing.

Glacier was a favorite of ours. We went there in 1975 when I just got my pilot license (year after I got my drivers license). Yellowstone was also interesting but glacier didn’t smell bad and the mountains and beauty were great. Now that I am retired I would like to take my blushing bride there one day.

I know someone's probably told you this before, but I didn't read all 357 comments. The animals with the big horns are big horn sheep and the ones with the little horns are mountain goats. I was there about 50 years ago so I really need to go back. Whenever this Covid-19 stuff is over the missus and I plan on selling the house and buying an RV and going full time. It was supposed to be this year but the virus killed that idea. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Glad to have you back again!! Thank you for this video. It is interesting that Glacier National Park is shared with Canada. It is great that you had your motorcycle with you because the Going To The Sun Road is not meant for a Dually. It is barely wide enough for largish SUVs. It would have taken all the fun out of it if you were to try to run your tow vehicle up that road.

Because of how in love I fell with all of MT and the fact I love the cold weather, I retired and moved here. You did a good job on your vid here! Just checked, $70 a night... But what I really want to say is that the videography and editing is some of the best on RUclips. From the scene changes to the music choices it is absolutely top notch. LOVED this video on every level - thank you! Congratulations on your CVMA patch in - wow, what a gathering!
We love the GNP area - been to either side, but, have yet to drive the entire GTTS road. Last June, missed the opening by 2 weeks & before that, it was closed by mid Sept (2009). Still, we have enjoyed West Glacier, tootling up the east side of Lake McDonald, turning around at the Lodge.
FYI 1: Fuel up! Last year we had come from Missoula (heading to Oregon by way of Canada) & also loved the drive along Flathead. Fueled up in Columbia Falls, drove to the lodge & ate lunch at the WGV restaurant (good service but horrible hamburger$) before turning south & around via 2/89. Arrived at East Glacier Village with a 1/2 tank & the ONLY service station (good ice cream) was out of gas & was low on Diesel, forcing those in need to Browning.
FYI 2: From there we took the seasonal road (49) up to Kiowa (89). It was in bad shape! Narrow, uneven, gravelly rough patches, tight curves some without asphalt, etc. There were spots tight for us (minivan) so can't recommend larger vehicles. However, the views were stunning over Lower Medicine Lake. The rest of the ride up to St. Mary's was scenic, some rough patches during road construction. We arrived with just under 1/4 of a tank due to climbs & delays.

We were there in 2018 as well! It was our first big trip from MN in our new (to us) '08 Jayco Eagle Super Lite 31.5 BHDS. We stayed at Emory Bay Campground outside of Martin City and had a fantastic time! We were there before the fires started in August so it was gorgeous and nothing was closed! The trails out of Logan Pass were closed when we were there because of grizzly activity. :-(
One of the highlights was the huckleberry cobbler that we had for breakfast. Did some rafting too! I love Glacier and encourage everyone to go there. If you're looking for another stop I'd highly recommend Medora North Dakota and the Pitchfork Steak Fondue! That was our outbound stop!

Enjoyed your video on Idaho, Montana and Glacier park. It's such a beautiful part of the US. Glad you enjoyed Grangeville, Id. My husband was born and raised in the small town. We also were there over the 4th of July. Actually, my sister-in-law lives just above the campground you stayed at. We probably drove by you multiple times. The town is know for it's egg toss each morning of the 3 day celebration. This last year was a record breaking year with something like 2000+ eggs each morning. Glacier Park and the area around Flathead lake should be on everyone's bucket list. Safe travels!

Glacier was our favorite destination of our entire trip out west in 2015! Watching your video makes me want to go back very badly! We stayed at west glacier KOA, it was very nice also, and the most expensive KOA of our entire 2 month vacation! Thanks for the video!

Absotively beautimous! We didn't have time for Glacier when we were there, but we are going back first chance we get. We were in Boise for the CVMA nationals. Don't know how we missed your being patched in. Welcome to the circus. Looking forward to Jacksonville in June 2020. Babycakes is dead set on riding the bike to Jacksonville and down to Key West again. So we are taking Phoebee on another epic adventure.

Glacier is my all time favorite beautiful spots! I have mixed feelings about telling others, for I fear it will become too crowded. Your video reminded me of how bad I want to go back. I did it on a Harley, and one of those "snow arches" collapsed and buried the road 15' deep. We were on the wrong side so we had to wait until they brought a front end loader from?? and shoveled the snow over the cliff until one lane was open. The park also makes it's own weather. You may get rained on at the pass while there's no clouds at the entrance. I marveled at how they built that road in the 20's?? The wall is a work of craftsmanship. Thanks!

@Allen S unfortunately it’s too late :^( It’s just going to get more and more packed from here on out. I’m local now and will only go near GNP in May/early June or September on.

@@ibMoose2u I went in August. The same year we went to Yellowstone (Aug) and absolutely HATED it. Too many people, boardwalks packed, parking lot fights, no wildlife. Glacier was stunning! I may try to go back in September when kids are in school.

I wanted to add for anyone going to Glacier try to plan to go somewhere around the last 2 weeks of June to the 1st 2 weeks of July. Any earlier the going to the sun road may not be open depending on snow fall. You can check the GNP web sight for when it will open each year. The water falls are spectacular right after the road opens. By August they are pretty much dried up after the snow melts.

We lived in Montana for 30 years. Glacier is the best! It's not called the Crown Jewel of the North American Continent without good reason. We love Glacier and miss it so much! We have been able to get back to Big Sky Country each year since we left in 2018 for a military assignment. I have learned a lot from your episodes and appreciate the info you share. We've been a full time RV family a little over 4 years now. It's the best way to travel. Keep up the great videos. There's a cheaper campground just outside of West Glacier that offers discounts for military folks. Maybe we'll see you somewhere out on the road. Merry Christmas!

Looks like you guys had a great time, and thanks for sharing. Glacier is my 2nd favorite park (Grand Tetons 1st.). Was in Glacier in September, 2018. Like a doofus, I managed to lay my photography bag down ( $2500 gear) and walk away. Got it back 2 days later, with all equipment inside. Someone picked it up and turned it in to a Ranger. Good to know there really are honest people in the world.

The larger shuttles come from the St. Mary side of Logan Pass. They can only go up as far as Avalanche on the Apgar side.

We took the Amtrak to Glacier several years ago from Illinois and stayed in Whitefish really enjoyed the trip, it was so nice to sit back and enjoy the trip without having to drive. We stood in front of the Apgar Village Web Cam and called out daughter to go look on the internet and she would see us standing there. It was one of our favorite trips we have taken.
