I’ve never done a video guide on a red bus tour. I would def make one- should be good for the bus co. Too. Glacier boats used my grinnell glacier video to get folks to take the boat tours. @@TheWestisBig We were there in mid July, so there were lots of people. This was our first visit so I have nothing to compare to, but the crowds were manageable. Let's be honest, the primary goal of the reservation system was to cut down the traffic congestion outside the park that was spilling onto and interfering with US 2 traffic. For in-park parking, especially at Logan Pass, it's only made the situation worse. It's now filling up earlier than ever before, and there's less turnover as well since people who get in early enough will wait until the latest possible moment to leave and not lose their space. Also, thanks for keeping the Izaak Walton secret ;)
Thanks for this. We are going there in July 2021. I hope we can get to the trailheads. We already have our entry ticket. We aren't sure how we are going to shuttle back up to the high line trail. The shuttle won't be stopping at the loop in 2021.

I plan on taking my first trip to Glacier this early June. I was thinking of doing the Grinnell Glacier and Iceberg Lake trails, but will be hiking alone. Are touring groups usually welcoming to solo travelers tagging along if I can't get a reservation?
Please subscribe! you will not have any problem hiking alone. I do it all the time. the park is so crowded you’ll be begging for some alone time on those trails.
So would I be allowed to enter and stay in the park without a reservation (since I couldn’t get one) as long as I am in before? If I hit the gate for 5:00am, would I be okay? We are headed there the last week of May.
Interesting point. I am referring to the 2006 EXPERTS conclusion, with documentation, claiming that all glaciers would be gone by 2020. I am reminded of the now 2-year-old "Green New Deal'' which also has experts claiming the world will end by 2030.
I just want to start by saying thank you for sharing your knowledge of the park. I've enjoyed many of your videos, and you've more than earned my subscription. Before I ask a couple trip planning questions, I'm wondering, do you ever sell any of your park photos? I'm looking for a landscape for my office (60"x24"ish). I'm planning a trip for mid September 2023, and am struggling with some key items. Do you have any trail recommendations for me to consider for a 3 night, 4 day backpacking trip? There are 4 of us, all fit, and coming from the east (open to your two medicine area preference). Also, is mid Sept really different when it comes to the crowds? Trying not to visit during peak season, but still the chance for decent weather. TIA
Thanks. and yes i sell images- over 1500 so far. those are interesting dimensions- hard to find a place that can print that size. I prefer printing on metal these days- since Cibachrome is no longer available. I have a panoramic shot of Upper grinnell lake with many bergs, the ptarmigan tunnel pano shot is nice too. have other pane shots including emerald lk in canada. re hike. if u haven’t already watch the 2 med and logan pass / st mary sections of my 50+ hikes in glacier. i think u can go from patimkin to syeh pass to the highline via swift current- it would be tough but very cool.
My video doesn't talk about linking the hikes, but you'll get an idea of the views and effort. It basically follows the Continental Divide Trail. The park pweb site has downloadable trail maps. here's a link to some of my pano shots synergymedia.com/PanoPage2022/index.html
btw- mid september likely still crowded. In early Oct 2020 logan pass parking was gone by 7:30a. and that was before parks got so crazy busy. the shuttle buses stop running in mid sept-ish. check the dates
Great video thank you for taking your time to make it !! I wanted to go for some bday hikes mid March do you think thats a good idea ? going mid march ?
Thanks! Most of the trails will be snow covered and possibly closed. many of the roads will also be closed. including the Sun Road. check the park website for projected opening dates. obviously weather can change things.
Well- im doing a series on the parks of rio grande rift and im writing and editing the Guadalupe mts/ carlsbad caverns segment now. they’re very different than Glacier. there’s a trail to the highest peak in texas- 3000 fr of vertical to 8700. the cave trail goes down 750 ft. White sands and other parks are nearby. the last 3 vid i uploaded show WS and 2 smaller ones- short hikes only though. Otherwise id say go to utah. zion has great trails!! and Bryce is nearby- as is Vagas airport. Moab with Arches and Canyonlands is also great!! not too many long trails though
Lots of folks asking this question this year for some reason. If you’re talking overnight backcountry I guess I get it, but back country permits are hard to come by and i assume they help with that. for day hikes you dont need a guide. the trails are well marked and mostly crowded through the summer so you’re rarely if even alone. Glacier guides is the only one i’m aware of. but again- why do u need one? please subscribe
How far Glacia National park( from point of hiking) to the Mt. Airport? Can we drive from airport to the hiking entrance? Do we have to reserve the nearby hotel before we go there? Thanks.
I’m very much enjoying your work! I’m visiting for the first time in late September of this year. Do you think an economy rental car will be sufficient to travel about the park? (Think Mitsubishi Mirage)
East glacier is very small. I assume you’re taking the train. Ive rented a car in Great Falls, Kalispell, and Calgary. and even seattle. wherever i fly in. They are all pricey these days.
@@TheWestisBig yes I would prefer to stop in east glacier, but if I can't find a car I will have to try whitefish. What are roads like around there at night?
Just wanted to thank you for your great videos that we watched through the pandemic winter dreaming of getting out. We got reservations at Apgar and Many Glacier and got there the last week of June, just days before GTSR opened. We hiked the East side from the closed gate at Jackson Glacier overlook all the way to Logan Pass; it was an easy 5 miles with the road to ourselves. I also got a rental bike and biked from Avalanche to just below Logan Pass, no cars, it was wonderful. ruclips.net/video/Dwr0gWijbTQ/видео.html I had never heard of Many Glacier before your videos, but we took your advice and stayed at Swiftcurrent and loved it. Later while watching family pictures from a 1970 camping trip, there was a picture of Many Glacier hotel, so we must have camped there in 1970 ! Thanks Again ! Stu
At the Blackfeet reservation just before you get into the park they have there own private heard. There are no wild ones in this park. That Yellowstone.
Piegan Pass is pronounced phonetically as Pee-gan. Siyeh is pronounced "sigh-eeee" I enjoyed your video but cringed every time you mispronounced. I did not check the other pronunciations for mistakes. :). And don't forget for the last 2 years you cannot enter the park without an advanced reservation now. You'll get turned away at the gates if visitors and locals just show up to camp, hike, or even drive the pass.
My friends and I are going to Glacier in late August and cannot stress how much your guides have helped me to plan the trip and what to look out for.

@@TheWestisBig thanks! I’ll give that video another look. Do you have a link to your gallery?
My video doesn't talk about linking the hikes, but you'll get an idea of the views and effort. It basically follows the Continental Divide Trail. The park pweb site has downloadable trail maps. here's a link to some of my pano shots

@@TheWestisBig Thanks Steve, I appreciate the advice. I should be able to piece it together.
btw- mid september likely still crowded. In early Oct 2020 logan pass parking was gone by 7:30a. and that was before parks got so crazy busy. the shuttle buses stop running in mid sept-ish. check the dates
any info on how many unsolved missing person cases are active?
Awesome video! Great narration!! How many days is enough for this park(i know its never enough lol) but at a high level.
thanks. please subscribe. 7-10 days is good
More like 14+ 🤣🤣
Great video thank you for taking your time to make it !! I wanted to go for some bday hikes mid March do you think thats a good idea ? going mid march ?
Thanks! Most of the trails will be snow covered and possibly closed. many of the roads will also be closed. including the Sun Road. check the park website for projected opening dates. obviously weather can change things.
Yeah unfortunately most of trails and roads are closed i checked thanks for the heads up ! any national parks you recommend for hiking mid-march ?
Any recommendations for guided backpacking in the park? Glacier Guides is looking good but we have no experience with the area.
I did subscribe. Thank you for all the info you provide!
We love backpacking in remote areas but being unfamiliar with the park thought some assistance would be useful. We shall see.
thank you for subscribing! it helps a lot
How far Glacia National park( from point of hiking) to the Mt. Airport? Can we drive from airport to the hiking entrance? Do we have to reserve the nearby hotel before we go there? Thanks.
sounds like you should call the park’s Ranger Station. to clarify
I’m very much enjoying your work! I’m visiting for the first time in late September of this year. Do you think an economy rental car will be sufficient to travel about the park? (Think Mitsubishi Mirage)
thanks. and yes an eco car will be fine
Planning a trip in 2023 considering a VRBO. But I'm really having trouble finding a rental car in east glacier. Any advice?
East glacier is very small. I assume you’re taking the train. Ive rented a car in Great Falls, Kalispell, and Calgary. and even seattle. wherever i fly in. They are all pricey these days.
@@TheWestisBig yes I would prefer to stop in east glacier, but if I can't find a car I will have to try whitefish. What are roads like around there at night?
the Sun Road may be closed due to construction- check website. Ive never driven hwy2 at night. should be fine. please subscribe if u haven’t
Sir, for Iceberg lake what time would you recommend leaving in the morning to avoid traffic going to the hike?
That depends on where you’re coming from. I recommend asking a Ranger
awesome
thanks!
do boats run all the way through the end of sept 2021??
I don't think so

Just wanted to thank you for your great videos that we watched through the pandemic winter dreaming of getting out. We got reservations at Apgar and Many Glacier and got there the last week of June, just days before GTSR opened. We hiked the East side from the closed gate at Jackson Glacier overlook all the way to Logan Pass; it was an easy 5 miles with the road to ourselves. I also got a rental bike and biked from Avalanche to just below Logan Pass, no cars, it was wonderful.

I had never heard of Many Glacier before your videos, but we took your advice and stayed at Swiftcurrent and loved it. Later while watching family pictures from a 1970 camping trip, there was a picture of Many Glacier hotel, so we must have camped there in 1970 !
Thanks Again !
Stu
you’re welcome
The local environmentalist have this park pretty much for themselves. Enacting all these restrictions were designed to keep out visitors.
HOW MUCH FLOODING AT LIVINGSTON ?
news said it was bad in parts of livingston- but don’t know much else
Where are the Bison ?
There aren’t any in Glacier
At the Blackfeet reservation just before you get into the park they have there own private heard. There are no wild ones in this park. That Yellowstone.
I’m lucky I live 45 minutes away
How does the reservation ticket system affect your ability to visit the park? i assume it’s more difficult.
You'll get turned away at the gates if visitors and locals just show up to camp, hike, or even drive the pass.
hmm ok. you should probably let the Rangers know too. I was there last week thats not how they pronounced them. 👍
