Yep, I traveled there on that road and visited the glaciers last August with my family in our 4Runner. Hiked on the long trails there up high to the glaciers. I will remember it forever.
I was there only once, on a family trip in 1964. The U.S. population has increased by approx 150 million since then. I could be wrong, since memory is fuzzy after 60 years, but it feels as if more human facilities exist along the road now, but it was super-crowded then just as it is now. Thanks for posting this gorgeous video. Fun to watch and a great way to bring back some fantastic memories. Makes me wish I were 30 years younger!🙂
@@AdventureEveryDay Thank you, too! I just thought of another thing that occurred to me as I watched your beautiful video: MUCH more snow was on the mountains, even in August 1964. I don't know how you feel about climate change, but seeing your autumn video with such a lesser amount of snow is a bit concerning to me. Back then, our family stayed at a motor lodge type of place on the south end of Lake McDonald. We took a boat ride, and I remember thinking someone had lost a toy row boat we could see on the bottom of the lake. Well, of course, it was not a toy! I remember doing a double take when the realization hit me! That water is probably just as crystal clear now as it was then. 🙂
@@gmaneis We were in the Colorado Rockies this past January and were surprised by the lack of snow in the mountains then. I think this last winter was a pretty dry one for much of the western states.
@@AdventureEveryDay Oh man, you've reminded me of another place I used to love: Rocky Mountain National Park. Our family camped there 3 times in the 1950's. We could pull into Glacier Basin Campground along Bear Lake Road on Sunday afternoon and have our reservation-free choice of dozens of sites. It was all tent camping then, no RV's. We didn't know about environmental concerns then, so I have a terrible-but-great-fun-back-then memory of scrambling all over the rocks of the tundra at Rock Cut on TRR. When I took my family there in the 1990's, and realized how my tennis shoes in 1957 had most likely mindlessly destroyed flowers that might have been a thousand years old, of course I was mortified.
@@gmaneisI’m 15 years old living in a very urban area on the east coast far away from these national parks so I’ve never really gotten to see nature like this before. However I’ve always been completely obsessed with the absolutely stunning beauty of the northwest mountains. My dream since I was 10 years old is to take a road trip by myself up along the Rocky Mountains and up to Alaska when I’m in my 20s to see parks like the Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glacier. If seeing these places in documentaries and on a screen looks marvelous, then it must be other worldly to see them in person up close. I feel like far too many people my age aren’t interested in nature and aren’t willing to go out and experience it. It must’ve been amazing to see Glacier in the 60s when it hadn’t been as touched by humans as it probably is now. Thanks for the stories!
Stunning. We enjoy our classic '67 Datsun 2000 Roadster in Washington's Cascade range a lot... nothing beats a convertible in the mountains. We hope to make this trip in the coming year or two. Thanks for the preview... lots of incentives!
May everyone who reads this find peace, relaxation, and good health. May your days be filled with calm moments, your nights with restful sleep, and your heart with unwavering joy. Take care and stay blessed!
I really appreciate you taking time to bring everyone these wonderful videos, I hardly travel as matter of fact I don't even leave my country, and I've always wondered how cities and roads look across the United States. It really wants to make me travel and get out of the house for a minute. These type of channels are the one who deserve credit.
Howdy, folks. Love it, that you made the opposite direction too! This is such a lovely and pristine scenery. Thanks and always be safe on your trips. Greetings from Switzerland. 👋
So many trees are dead : in 2003 , June . The ttrees were in great shape , very few people camping . In 1974 ,we had a bear walk around our tent , always fun, if no one gets hurt . Baniff is also a great place .
Thank you for the video as it is beautiful and fantastic. My wife and I drove from Houston in our convertible to do this road in the summer of 2015. The day before we got there, a campers fire got out of control, catching part of the park on fire, so they closed part of the road. We started where you did and had to turn around at 17:53 in your video. Such a huge letdown but still happy we got to see what we saw. Hopefully one day we'll get back to finish the drive.
What a spectacular drive it is 🥰🥰 went there back in 2019. only the difficult logistics from New York doesn’t allow me to drive the road every year. Thanks for the great video 🙌🏻
Amazing drive on the Going-to-the-Sun Highway in Glacier National Park. I'm enjoying the stunning alpine views, glacial peaks, vibrant fall colors, and calm lakes. Thanks, Mate! 🚗🍂
It looks so different compared to my time there, June 2016. Lots of snow was still on the ground and it was very rainy that weekend. Often I couldn’t even see the mountain tops. You had great weather and so much more color.
Great epic scenery video and footage here, nice work, thanks for filming it! I drove through Colorado's freeway mountains and tunnels which were amazing too. Was wondering where the opening road Glacier Park, MT was in The Shining 1980 film.
I didn't see a single convertible on the drive. Believe me when I say there is NOTHING like a convertible in the mountains. If you don't own one, rent one for this drive, you won't regret it!
You’re right, there’s nothing like a convertible in the mountains! Drove through Zion in a convertible a few years ago and it was a completely different experience.
The contrast between the towering rocky mountains and the blue sky behind them is beautiful. Also, seeing Lake St. Mary and the river on the side of the road quenches my thirst, so I like this type of driving course the most. Thank you! Are the clusters of dead trees I see along the way the aftermath of a forest fire?
We’ve found that most viewers won’t wait for 40 minutes before reaching the iconic views in the park. That’s why we started it where we did and decided to put the area along Lake McDonald and McDonald creek at the end.
How did you find the road so empty?? On my visit there was an uninterrupted stream of cars. The hiking was amazing. The driving and parking was a huge PIA.
If you start from the east you’ll be in some of the best scenery quicker. If you start from the west the first hour or so goes along the lake and creek down in the valley with lots of trees and some glimpses and anticipation of the mountains and the switchbacks to come. Both directions are fantastic, it just comes down to personal preference.
None of your videos are available in 4K on my smart TV anymore 😞1440 is the best option (watching on LG smart TV purchased in 2021) it’s only available in 2160 on my iPhone
Not sure why that is. We check our videos on an iPhone, 4K Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV and LG smart TV before we put them out to make sure they all work in 4K since we’ve run across the same thing before on some devices for some reason. This video plays in 4K on all the devices we’ve checked, sorry it’s not working on your TV.
Same issue here on an LG C3. Max res available is 1440p60, while other channels show 2160p60. Still beautiful! Not sure why the 4k isn't offered though.
Those are great questions! Many of the driving videos out there have terrible wind noise. This video has the perfect amount of driving white noise without the distraction of wind beating on the microphone
