@@TalkingPrisoner it’s so hard to decided, I love them all, Maxine has to be my favourite, but then again she was my all time favourite character. I must of watched prisoner 20 times, I keep going black to episode 1, it’s so addictive, xx
A very entertaining episode, and lots of good stories from Shane about prisoner. I can still see Shane in him. He looks well. Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Im a big fan of prisoner, and i remember Shane well. 😀👍
Robert went to the same High School as I did. When he was in Year 7 I was in Year 10 and a few of us kept a bit of an eye on him as older students to ensure other kids did not give him a hard time given his acting role outside school. I can’t remember whether we took that on ourselves or whether we were asked by one of the Senior Teachers but I do remember that generally speaking, it was not necessary and most of the school community backed him in.
This interview was a lot better than I was expecting. Nice to see that Robert was so into it and reminiscing about Prisoner so fondly... Yes, that part where they had his real name on the get well card when Shane was in hospital was such a blatant howler, it was hilarious! lol
@@TalkingPrisoner Yeah, I did... it did give us more insight into Joan Ferguson's persona. I don't think she was a complex character at all, she was naturally quite caring, and basically just hated criminals with a vengeance because they killed her girlfriend in Queensland... hence she became forever bitter.
@@TalkingPrisoner Oh yeah, that in itself could have been its own series with about 8 episodes or so, you know? I bet you she'd be the nicest woman.. lol
Thanks for a great interview guys. Robert seems like a lovely guy. I just had a thought - when Joan was being taken away by the Police in the final episode Shane should have appeared crying out "Aunty Joan!"
Wow. How awesome to have this guy on TP. You've done it again TP - totally blown us all away! We al wondered what happened to this child actor as he seemed he failed into obscurity. But there was not doubt about it - for a child actor he had the most amazing talent and could have taught many an adult actor a thing or two. Thanks again Matt for your hard work and treating us to this amazing interview.
Thanks so much for your kind words, i hope you have been enjoying all the interviews so far. Robert was great to speak to and learn about his time on Prisoner. What has been your favourite interview so far ? M
This was such a great interview. Fascinating to hear about Robert’s experience on the show as a child actor, working with Maggie, and also his interactions with the various cast members he didn’t appear on screen with.
@@TalkingPrisoner He was a great guest. Yes, I did enjoy that storyline as it helped to show Joan as a much more three dimensional character. Up until this point she had been largely unsympathetic, so I think this storyline marked a turning point for the character. After this she was no longer simply the villain of the show, and there would be subsequent storylines where the audience was rooting for her too.
I’ve just recently, well, a couple of months ago, started rewatching Prisoner after many years past & had forgotten just how phenomenal the acting & writing was & I had just got through the ‘Kay White’ storyline, Sandy Gore was so good as Kay, a character, like so many villains in this show, that I couldn’t help feeling a slight pang of sympathy for! I’d love to see an interview with Sandy today to get her thoughts on that character & her experience working on the show as a whole.👍
This is beyond wonderful to see - I’ve recently been watching prisoner from start to finish for the 4th time and had been trying to look Robert up on Facebook etc to see what he was like now, you must have read my mind! The scenes he was in really gave us a warm side to Joan, as did the scenes with her father the Major and her dog too x fab interview x sending thanks from me in the uk
@@TalkingPrisoner oh absolutely. I watched the show back in late 80’s when it started in uk. I was around 11-12. Then over past five years I’ve watched it around 7 times over. This storyline stuck in my mind from a child. It breaks my heart every time I watch this storyline. It’s a story line I’d even love to re write. I understand Shane staying with auntie Joan would have change future storylines for Joan, and there probably wouldn’t have been a future left for Joan in the show atall, and then I think it have ended much sooner. But I really would have loved a Shane and aunt Joan reconciliation for sure !!
I remember seeing Robert in a restaurant near Kings Cross in Sydney close to the hotel we were staying. This would have been in the later 90s when I was on Holiday there with my ex. Robert was on a table with friends on a meal out. I got quietly animated and said to my partner that's the lad who used to be in prisoner. He's was lot older but looks exactly the same. I glad to state I remained composed and no, I didn't go over and introduce myself. I played it cool cos I thought I'd have hated a strange bloke interrupting a meal out. Cos I was a fan of the show it's still one of the moments of that holiday that stands out these many years later.
I listened to the interview a few weeks ago and I thought Robert did a phenomenal job playing Shane on prisoner, it's a shame that Joan didn't adopt him. I have a suggestion on two cast members to interview and it's Vicki Mathios who played the teenage Delinquent Nikki Lennox and Bradley Kilpatrick who played Tommy who was also on the Henderson Kids with Kylie Minogue. I can dm a link to their instagrams to you if you like if I can find them.
The writers should have had Joan adopt Jill the neighbor girl who's mother killed her husband then hung herself in wentworth...it would have been way better than the horrible storyline with Shane
I always thought that they should’ve done a one-off “where are they now” episode about ten years ago, while most of the cast were still alive. It opens with an old Joan finally being released from prison on a cold and rainy day. A police car pulls up, a blonde policeman tells her to get in and takes her home - where the policeman reveals himself to be Shane, who never forgot her kindness to him. Perhaps Lorelei had somehow crossed paths with Shane, and asked him to look after her when she was released: a final thank you from Lorelei for bringing the tape and setting up contact with Zoe.
Very interesting to hear he was invited to reprise the Shane role in Wentworth. That would have been the only instance of a PCBH character and actor returning to the SAME role in Wentworth. But not sure how well it would have worked with the smaller age gap between Robert and Pamela Rabe. As it was, I think they took a really interesting path reimagining the role as a young adult Aboriginal guy who’d been in and out of juvenile custody. A good storyline and homage to the original idea there!
@@TalkingPrisoner I always thought he did good for Joan in the sense of she had no family around her and after her dad died it proved how lonely she was. I think it would've worked and I can only imagine what the fan fiction writers could do! Shane kept Joan on her toes and she cared for him so much it hurt her when she stopped seeing him. I think it was the loss of Shane to Joan that made her go harder into the job etc. Personally I believe it would've worked.
