Great video. I am purchasing a house and want to change the keys on all of the locks (that use the same key) to match a new key. I understand the process of repinning, thanks to your great video. However, all of the kits I see online like the one you use in this video, do not come with a key.. Do I just go to a key cutting center and have them cut a random key for me to match? I know I am just missing something simple here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to a locksmith they should be able to cut a key with random key cuts, or you could probably specify exactly what you want. Alternatively, you can buy a lock with the same keyway as your locks (Schlage, kwikset, etc) and they usually come with 2 keys that share the same “random” key cut.
I’ve seen cut keys for sale online (Amazon, eBay, other sites), but personally I’d stay away from that since the person shipping it will know the address that the keys are for if you ship them to your house + your name. Sure a locksmith will also know what they cut for you, but they won’t know your name or address if you pay cash 😀
There may be other options as well. I’m no expert, I’m just a nerd with an awesome rekey kit. Congrats on the new house! Hope the rekeying goes well!

Thanks! If you just want to buy a new key that you can repin all of the locks to, where can you find such a key? I saw this kit but would prefer to just buy new keys since a friend of mine has your kit that I can borrow

You should be able to find a locksmith in your area that can cut a custom key for you. I’ve seen mentions of online services that let you provide a code and they will cut a key as well. Not sure I’d want to be sending my key code to someone online.

You could also buy a new lock. They all come with keys. I think you could probably get a “better” key code that is less cookie cutter from a locksmith though.

What editor are you using CapCut?

Believe it or not, I use iMovie. I wouldn’t recommend it other than it’s free. I plan to switch to something better like adobe premier if my channel gets bigger

Thanks any idea how to reuse pins?

You could totally save old pins and reuse them later. It’s pretty easy to match them up with pins in the rekey kit. Unless if they are brand new pins, I would probably just throw them away. Not worth the risk of having worn pins in your kit in my opinion.

    Hello, awesome video! Thank you!
Where do you get the keys to match the pins with?

Thanks! For the keys there are a few options.
      - You can go to a locksmith and ask them to cut some keys for you.
      - If you buy a new Schlage lock, it will come with 2 keys typically. You can rekey your other locks to match those + have copies of the keys made.
      - You can buy small rekey kits that come with pins and keys Example: a.co/d/3b8Qrf5

Nice job little buddy but why are your hands in black? Just thought I’d ask maybe its not any of my business but do you think that’s cool just asking I make Locksmith videos and wondered what your thoughts were on that

Hey big buddy. I’m just used to working in gloves. Originally started off with real messy jobs that involved oil and grease. Then I got used to the additional grip that it gives your fingers in some situations. For electronics work I wear them to avoid getting oils from my hands on the connections.
Generally though it’s just a habit for me now. It’s nice to be able to keep my hands clean and just rip the gloves off and go eat a burger.
I get made fun of a bit for it, but whatever. At least people are entertained and I’m happy!
