    Hi, I have a question for you. We are trying to DIY mounting a catfish. Should we freeze the fish before we start to skin it? We started skinning our catfish, but we keep messing up the skin.

      Hello thanks for the comment. You don’t have to freeze the fish before hand. It is just an easy way to preserve it if you don’t have time to cut it up immediately. Catfish is a tough one to do as it really doesn’t have hard scales just skin. Unfortunatly for a beginner it will probably a hard one to mount.

    How in the world do you get the carving the right size?

    • @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
      @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459  3 года назад +1

      Basically work on it and continually line it up to
      The fish and adjust it as needed. It’s never really been a perfect fit for me but any gaps can be filled it with clay!

    What happens if you dont paint

    • @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
      @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459  4 года назад

      Thanks for the comment. The fish may keep a little bit of its original color, but not much. Over time it will become more gray, painting restores the fishes natural color.

      I’ve gotten a couple requests for a trout, they are a little hard to come by in my area I plan on taking a trip to the western part of the state late summer to catch a few. I should be able to make a video then. Thanks.

    Yo dude I love these videos but I do have one question is the paintjob just your own choice or is it necessary?

    • @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
      @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. Every taxidermist paints their fish, I’m no expert at it yet so each fish I do I learn from. I guess it’s not completely necessary but if not painted your fish will be pretty plain and gray colored.

      @beginnerstaxidermyguide8459  6 лет назад +1

      Quad 11 it depends on how big of foam block you by, I bought a 5ft by 18” block I believe for a little over $50.
