Wow that's awesome! I never knew this could be done at home before. You make it look so easy but I am sure it takes some practice. Tight lines my friend :)
Hi yes I did freeze it. The only reason it needs to be frozen is if you can’t get to skinning it right away. Freezing it just preserves it until you have time to work on it.
Im thinking of getting into the hobby, however, the only thing keeping from trying it out is idk how to properly clean the head portion. How do you clean out the brains and cheek meat and other meat in the head?
Watching this makes me want to try it myself. Perch seems like a good one to start on. Maybe a bream since they are easy to catch and have simple color patterns
Thomas Dowd definitely go for it, I think the perch is a good fish to start on, each fish I do they start too look better so just take your time it should be good!
I have a question, is the mod podge and the other thing I forgot the name of to make sure the fish skin doesn’t rot? Also is there and alternative to those items and can I just use only mod podge instead? I love 5he work tho 👍👍👍
After taking out the fish out of the 50/50 water and denatured alcohol do I have to let the skin dry? Or just start stuffing it as soon as I pull it out of the bucket?
Thanks for this! I had no idea that this was so doable at home! One question, can I just use mod podge on the fins without the additional silicon to stand the fins straight?
No problem. Since this video I generally only do a few coats of silicone and skip the modge podge step. The silicone gives the fins some flexibility and will help them not to crack.
Ah OK thanks, I only asked because I have plenty of mod podge but not silicon, I will buy some and try this out. I'm hoping to create a case full of fish at some point. Do you use clay on the throat latch to keep the mouth wide open? and does the varnish help bind it together rigid?
It will lose a lot of its natural color, painting is the hardest part in my opinion. You could always do one with a clear coat and see how it turns out.
Thank you. While this paint job was a little much I have learned a lot and my current paint jobs look a lot better. Typically the fish loses all its color when you skin it and to replace that color you need to repaint over its natural markings.

I generally just cut with my knife under it but sometimes can get a good grip and pull it off. You just have to be really careful not to pull too hard and damage your fish.
I honestly thought it would be easier than a small game mount but considering i lack a certain artistic hand at painting I think ill stick to fur mounts lol. Cool video though.
Odin Wolf honestly the paint book tells you exactly how to paint them, I never considered myself a good painter but after you do a couple fish they start to look good! Give it a try!
The tissue paper on the back stays on and keeps the fins strong you just cut off the excess tissue paper so you can’t see it. I would say the caulk is pretty important because it keeps the fins from becoming brittle and cracking.

Ralph Jr appreciate it. Yes I have found the painting to be the toughest part. But they look a little better each time!
@@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459 as long as your trying to beat the last one they get better,I'm painting a brown trout right now, just finished six palimino trout, next is a big steelhead, I love my Iwata air brush and hate it at the same time if you know what I mean!
Ralph Jr yes hard to keep those things clean but they are great, also for the trout do you use the original head or make a mold of it, never done one?
i was trying to do this project last week, but then i felt hungry halfway.
Haha well hopefully you got a good meal out of it at least..
i tried this...all the guts came out
Mary Conway I’m not sure if your saying that as a bad or good thing? I’d be glad to answer any questions if I could, but you do want the guts to come out!
< flea market quality
I regret posting this after knowing was ur 2 ND mount ever! Sorry bud, keep us posted after skills come up. Love your enthusiasm, lacking people like you in this world. God bless
bill beachbound haha no worries appreciate it. My newest perch mounts are 20x better this wasn’t the best I agree but it’s the process that people find useful and how to do it.
Why do you paint over it? I personally think it's pointless and looks stupid on fish. Why bother taxidermying it if you're going to cover up every natural detail? Why not leave it be?
Oreo the Appaloosa because the little color that you may have when first put on the foam will fade and the fish will just be all gray, also there isn’t a professional taxidermist out there that is still in business that doesn’t paint there fish.
i am a taxidermist and you are putting WAY to much paint on....paint needs to be a little transparent
Agreed as I have told many before in comments. This was the second fish I have ever done without any formal training. I have learned over doing a few less is more.
To fast
Looked better before you painted it.
Gus2 mo ba magturo o ayaw mo... Bilis mo gumalaw halatang madamot ka eh
Looks dumb honestly should of kept it original
Terrible mount
Legendary Skulls while I can agree the paint job is a little off it was the second perch I've done without any formal training, sorry it's not as cool as a shed hunting video with terrible commentary and 25 views.
Hunting Right Outdoors don’t listen to him.this is amazing
Thank you Tanner!
Hunting Right Outdoors no problem. Plus I saved this and definetly plan on trying soon!! Thx
@@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459 Lol tell him. Looks great man and you used good techniques. The more you do the better you get. Keep it up !!!!!!
