No matter your age, your religion, your politics, the color of your skin, what country you come from.....you can not help but smile to see this wonderful human being and his love for music and entertaining.. I believe that with all my heart.
What a sound he gets out of that horn! Doesn't matter how many times I hear him play I'm still surprised again at how much better he makes the trumpet sound than anyone else. When he solos it feels like there's all the time in the world. Unbelievable. Brings tears of joy to my eyes.
He is so fun to watch. He makes you feel good. No one does that these days. A lot of "singers" today look angry or take themselves too seriously. They also depend too much on stage lights, smoke, fireworks etc. A good entertainer does not need those things. Louis didn't and that's obvious.
Rarely seen an vocal artist performs before audience without ( I suppose 😊 ) electricity ! Swetting top to bottom , still so alive & splendid ! Wipe out all hard toils with fun & joy .
It's just impossible not to smile when you hear ol' satchel-mouth in action. The man just radiates warmth, charm, humour and clearly loves entertaining. Add to that a world-class bravura trumpet style and a voice that is instantly recognisable by practically every living soul on the planet and you have the genius born in a brothel in New Orleans and died loved and respected by musicians and audiences the world over. Thank God for Louis.
There was never somebody, and there will never be somebody playing the horn better than this man..!! My daddy used to play his records over and over again when I was a little boy.
He was my hero, I played trumpet all through school from first grade to senior in high school, he was the greatest. You were loved then and still are. You were one of a kind. God gave you real talent and you shared it with everyone. Thanks
+SMARTTECK cocaine would have destroyed him. No, there is no cocaine found in his life. YOu would sweat the same way if you had to perform under very hot lights and giving it all. I might add that cocaine was legal in that period. Heck try blowing into a trumpet like that, you will be in a sea of sweat in front of your audience.
Even as a person that leans more on listening to much heavier music like metal, this kind of music as well as others has a sweet spot in my mind and heart
I have NEVER seen a performance by Satch where I’m not smiling from ear to ear. He just radiates warmth and joy in his performances……and communicates it to his audience. An absolutely amazing entertainer!
The best solo ever! So much soul...that's what made his playing different from the others. He picked out the best notes and phrases...he didn't vomit notes like most jazz players.
I am sorry your parents made you listen to jazz that you didn't like. The best part of the Mozart movie was the Emperor saying Amadeus played too many notes. Satchmo often played like a ballet master while other musicians like to play like a football game or a world record in the hundred meter dash
My comment wasn't intended to offend jazz musicians, I have a great respect for jazz musicians as jazz happens to be one of my favorite genres of music. I was just pointing out that I prefer simple melodic lines versus note density which I hear from a lot of musicians particular in Jazz. That's not to say they are not talented it's just not my preference. The great Bill Evans even explains on a video how he built his solos on very elementary lines to keep true to the music. Now let me reiterate that this simple style is just preference and doesn't mean any other styles is less or more as the different audience likes different sounds. And my parents didn't force me to listen to jazz music, I chose to explore all types of music on my own. In fact I've even taken history of mics classes in college and probably know more about music history than you do, but that is not my purpose for posting comments.
Louis Armstrong, a musical trailblazer and virtuoso trumpeter, left an indelible mark on jazz history with his innovative improvisations and soulful vocals. His charismatic presence and timeless recordings continue to resonate, solidifying his legacy as a true icon of American music.
My Trompet teacher used to show me these old Louis videos, back then I didn't realise what a masterpiece he showed me, and now I come back to these videos to listen to really good tunes :)
Pure joy and music in human form! Even to this day the things he played on the trumpet are still top notch all these years later. Can’t get any better. I believe Wynton Marsalis said that he never could find one recording where Louis Armstrong ever played a sour note. Even though he didn’t have “formal” training he was a true musician and heard everything he played In his head. That is a true gift from god.
Music Trivia: Did you know "Hello Dolly" by Louis Armstrong went to number 1 on May 9, 1964.He broke the Beatles Streak who had 3 number 1 songs since February 1, 1964.
Unfortunately...talent, showmanship and earning your way to the top is getting lost because of the corporate music industry's greed. It's always been about money, but it's all about a _quick_ buck these days. It's also nice to see a time when having some class was respected and appreciated.
Nobody comes close to Satchmo. Thank you for bringing us your of joy of life, your love of music and defeating the hardships you experienced. Great man.
I love this guy. Thank you for posting this vid. Mr. Armstrong is a great and truly talented artist. I wish he could have lived another 70 healthy and happy years.
Louis was one of a kind. So talented and a kind hearted soul. As a kid of 8 i remember running around the house singing this song and trying to imitate him. Why? I don't know except to say that this song was destined to become just an old favorite tune from way back when.
This is truly amazing, growing up my dad would listen to this and I would always dislike it but as I grew older man how can you dislike this! I see and appreciate why he likes it so much.
Today is the day they have to put my sister dog down and it probably had a good 5 years left, my sister named the dog dolly, when my mom use to drive me to school she would take the dog with and play this song so I was actually pretty upset listening to this

Even as someone who typically listens to Celtic music, which the occasional pop song, jazz and the blues will always have a soft spot in my heart. It’s so weird to think that people can listen to this without smiling and wanting to dance along. Most people in my class don’t even know who Louis Armstrong or Billie Holiday is. Two of the most influential musicians of the past century!
Wow!! 40 years old, been listening to Louis my whole life...first time I've seen a live video of this song....you just made my day @truerhymer!! Thank you :-)
