Now this is pure entertainment. Not that crap we get now. Louis Amstrong is a gem, and honored from what he did. He is worldly missed, and still missed to this day.
You took the words right out of my mouth there Robert. I wonder of the guys around him were the All Stars with Trummy Young on the brilliant trombone ?
In any event, I grew up with his music and have loved him all my life ! ! !
Tyree Glenn on trombone, Marty Napoleon on piano, the rest of the cats are from the Tonight Show band including Tommy Newson on clarinet. June 22, 1967
You said all that needed to be said for me, Robert!
Hi Phil. Thank you! Tommy Newsom (cl), Tony Mottola (bj), Ed Safranski (b), Ed Shaughnessy (dr).
Agreed, now go tell today's young people that and see the response you get, it won't be nice either, because they don't give a damn about these people, the past or how things used to be or should be , and if things don't change soon we're all in for it,you can bet on it!!!!!
Anything from the NY years is a treat but this is simply irresistible
👍👍
You are right
Right, it's very rare to see something from that period.
What does NY years mean? But I agree, I miss the comedy, the laughter, the class, the love. People nowadays judge each other and try to put each other down to feel better about themselves , so opinionated and political, its a terrible and expensive time to be alive.
What does NY years mean? 60S 70S?
"Louis Armstrong was born poor, died rich, and never hurt a soul along the way." --- Duke Ellington
I just listened with the car speakers. Wow. Outstanding. Awesome. My ears are smiling. What a singer! What a band! What fun. More Carson GOLD.
Magnetic
My ears are smiling too ! ❤
Satchmo was/is one of the greatest entertainers of all time. What a treat to see him on the show. Is this his only appearance?
You can't help but smile when you watch him, what a legend.
Another rare gem. What a Wonderful World was my favorite song.
And perhaps always will be...Its up there on the list..
Louis and the Beatles on the chart at the same time----those were the days.
Louis actually bumped the Beatles out of the number one spot with Hello Dolly.
There will never be another Satchmo like Louis Armstrong ❤
Louis was a true legend.
Pure Gold! None of these classic performers will EVER be duplicated.
Mr Armstrong is a example of being yourself in public.
Thank you for posting these deep cuts from the 60s. You guys have been crushing it lately with these old 60s clips. Upload whatever you have in the vaults from the New York era.
Agreed!
Carson saved NBC from bankruptcy 3 times.
What a phenomenal personality & peformance! His raspy voice, his very distinctive🎺trumpet🎺sound, his music & repertoire are simply outstanding. His energy, talent & humility can never be matched. I own a ton of albums by Louis, among others, can listen to him any day & any time. 🎹🎶🎼🎵
@tintinesk5 Yes, I have those records as well. Timeless classics.
What a color video tape treasure from June 1967.
Priceless!
Now if you could only find the appearances by Harry James and Buddy Rich from October 1, 1964 & Harry James from May 17, 1966!
I love it. I'm 56 and when I listened to it, I thought to myself. Nobody nails that tune like Luois and his band.
Just simply amazing. There will never be another man of this stature and talent. Thank You for posting this...
Pure gold. We're lucky to see it now, and Tommy Newsom, Ed Shaughnessy and the rest of the house band players were lucky indeed to sit in with the great Louie Armstrong.
BRAVO! 👏 Class, style, optimism; rhythm, talent, showmanship; entertainer par excellence, Lois Armstrong, much beloved, and worldwide famous for his unique vocal niche & musical gift. 🤓
my very first record album was in 1964 of Louis Armstrong
What a man
His trumpet phrasing influenced jazz vocalists such as Ella and Billie. Satchmo is a true legend.
I wish I could give this 2 thumbs up! What a treat! Absolutely one of the best of all times!
A real treat. Cheers
What a magnificent talent, there's just nobody that comes close to his style. 👏🎶
One of a Kind !....An American Icon and National Treasure !....Armstrong So Completely Owned HELLO Dolly , That Everybody just naturally assumed that the Song Must have been written Exclusively For HIM !!!...
I am smiling profusely and sweating from pure enjoyment seeing him, dancing and singing along to the Satchman!!!
Ahh this is fabulous!! I had to watch it twice!! Bravo to Satchmo and of course Mr Carson.
Oh how I miss that Era of television pure down to earth performer after performer and Satchmo Armstrong was the biggest and the best
Shoutout to the late great *Jerry Herman* , Tony award winning composer of "Hello, Dolly!" and "Mame".
👍😎 When music was actually music. Love it.
Classic, the most Hon. Louis Armstrong. Johnny Carson, smart man.
"Satchmo" had a very expressive face. What a performer.
Amazing- thank you!!!
Remembering the 5 th. Anniversary of the Lloyd Shopping Center in Portland 🥀,Oregon, July, 29 , 1965 ……. Louis Armstrong appeared in the huge parking lot for 2 free Show’s in 90+ degree’s heat ,and we stood for the whole concert. He was amazing. I was 25 yrs. old and the mother of 5 girl’s. I will be 85 yrs.old on New Year’s Day ,2024 - this is Dec.20, 2023 . There sure is a lot of good music in Heaven now. Looking forward to that. Chris, ♥️🎶🎄🥀🎄🎶♥️🥰🙏🎼🎹🎺♥️
He’s Performing here in 6/4/1967.
One cannot help but smile listening to this dear sweet man.
You'll never ever see a great entertainer like him ever again Ever PERIOD!!!!!
Superstar
Love this
Great stuff!
Good God, thank you for this treat for all of women and men to enjoy. There will only be one Louis Armstrong!
Facial expressions alone could've made him legendary haha ❤
when I was a kid I didn't get it, but he wasn't performing for tv cameras, but always to a live audience several dozen feet away. He was NOT gonna let you take your eyes off of him! OLD SCHOOL
@@roberthoffhines5419 Truly a master
The master of voice The musical Genius The originator of modern music, and yet somehow one of the humblest men ever to walk this earth.
Simply the best!
I love that time and people !
Always loved him! Never been another one like him😍
Thanks a million times for this. Wasn't even born, but these performers were just uniquely brilliant. Such a pleasure and privilege to see and hear.
THE GREATEST!!!!!
It's rare to see Armstrong and Johnny with a head full of dark hair.
One of the Great’s 😎
Legendary Louis! Keep the 60s clips comin'!
Bravo 👏🏻
What I find amazing as someone who is born after this time, is how many great artist were working at the same time. Normally you think Like you had Satchmo, Elvis, then the Beatles and so on. But it really was like Satchmo was still on, Elvis was on, Neil Diamond was already working (still is), Queens was founded in 1970, Abba started in 72, Beatles were going strong and Michael Jackson started his solo career ind 71. Makes modern days look quite poor...
Louis Armstrong is a fantastic entertainer.
More vintage Johnny Carson performances. Johnny Hartman and Buddy Rich plus many others I saw first on Johnny Carson.
Thank you for letting this out of the vault !
Tyree Glenn on trombone!
the best
Great stage presence with a natural appeal to the audience . It was nice to see Tommy Newson enjoying the moment .
No one could ever outswing Pops. He was the greatest!
Satchimo!!! Cant listen to this without thinking of my grandfather. All the talent and class from that era...so glad he played Armstrong, Sinatra, Martin, and Davis Jr. among others.
What a gem! Thanks for posting!
Still fantastic
A really rare gem to find. 🎺
Wow! Absolutely awesome!! Amazing and thankful that Johnny got Louis on his show to record this Gold! I was a toddler at the time of this, but for whatever reason, I remember as a young boy that "Louis Armstrong" was one of the first great performers I ever knew about (him & Dean Martin who had a show running at that time also) .... never knew about some Frank S. guy. 😄
I love " Hello Dolly." Louis is incredible.
Thank you....Thank you....Thank you! Louis was actually born in August of 1901. Please post the show from March of 1976, where Bing Crosby and Ray Bolger appeared and performed together.
Outstanding!
Great clip from NY
Wow! Better than I remembered!
RIP
HELLO LYNDON
Looking at the original air date I have no doubt that I saw this show.
It’s Mame, not maim! Anyway, thanks for posting this great clip from June 22, 1967!!!
More please!!!
He has that 1920's sound down!
THIS is how every Carson Tonight Show aired when seen on NBC. Can you imagine seeing each episode from the first ten years on color videotape???? By the way, the Ed Ames tomahawk bit (in a longer form than commonly seen) DOES exist in COLOR!!!!!!
Louis Daniel Armstrong (Nueva Orleans, 4 de agosto de 1901 -Nueva York, 6 de julio de 1971), también conocido como Satchmo o Pops, fue un trompetista y cantante estadounidense de jazz.
69 años.
Ol pops 🎺
This is what late night television used to be. When it was great.
Louis Armstrong was a class act and there's not a single entertainer today that can match this man's style and class. I remember when he passed. It was a very sad day. Thanks for all of Johnny Carson videos. I've been a fan of him and everyone in the show for 50 years. When Johnny retired it was a complete end of an era. Jay did a great job and David Letterman was great as well but Johnny Carson was the kind and no one can ever replace him. All the late night shows are garbage and propaganda and most of all, not funny.
Bear58,
Johnny’s show was in the time of the great entertainers. One thing the Carson show had that the others didn’t was class.

❤❤❤❤❤
Sublime…
How many noticed the trombone player in the second song using a straight mute and cup mute at the same time?
Moreso how Louis played a harmony behind his solo that echo'd and complimented him. These guys were masters of Dixieland Jazz.
it's called a "pixie" mute with yes, a toilet plunger. It's a old-time jazz technique. Tyree Glenn mastered it, as does Wycliffe Gordon today. These guys would literally make the trombone sound like it was talking, shrieking, laughing arguing... whatever.
The second number is correctly spelled "Mame". Thanks for sharing.
It's an honest mistake, no need to Maim them over it 🤣🤣
@@pem1974 It's not good to maim Mame.
❤️❤️❤️
Tommy Newsome on the clarinet
thats awesome
🥰😍😁❤️
Is that a young Tommy Newsom in the back ?
"CLASS ACT"
"You coax the blues right out of the horn, Louis, not Mame."
Was that a very young Tommy Newsom sitting in on clarinet?
Can you post the episode from 1970 Oct 11 or Feb 11 1971?
God
Johnny was talking about LA's "Hello, Dolly" being released the previous year, so could this program be from 1965?
June 22, 1967
Is that Tommy Newsom playing Clarinet in Louis band?
I spot Tommy Newsom on clarinet in there too!
When giants roamed the earth
Absolutely correct.
All the great ones Sinatra Crosby Nat King Cole they call him one named pops the beginning of it all
What year was this? Fabulous
i thought it was '65 but apparently it's '67
June 1965.
@@krazeykriss Original Airdate: 06/04/1967
Can't be '67. June 4 was a Sunday. And Carson, when referring to "Dolly", said "last year". The song was a hit in '64.
It's possible this was a rerun that aired on "The Weekend Tonight Show" June 4, 1967.
