The actress who plays Dorothy in the flashback is amazing. She gets Bea's mannerisms and voice to perfection! We get to see her a few more times over the run of the series.
The scene with Rose's Birthday on St. Olaf shows what a wonderful actress Betty White was!!! Oh sure she's a great comedian, most of her career and was in comedy but when she does dramatic scenes like this she just shines. All of these ladies were wonderful.
Sophia (Estelle Getty) was actually the second youngest (the yougest was Blanche), she was even a year younger that "her daugher" Dorothy! The oldest was Rose (Betty White who we lost just 2 years ago at age 99, she was the last living GG).
I don’t think we ever see Rose (and by extension, Betty White) be as truly emotional as in the “I love you, Charlie. I miss you.” lines. I think it’s the only time we ever hear her voice quaver.
I have been waiting for you to get to this one. One of the nest in the series! Such good performances. I always get emotional at Betty White's monologue. Everyone I used to watch this when I was growing up has since passed away and now it hits differently. :( Thank you for this series, friend
My mum and I once successfully convinced my dad that "the lady who played Sophia on the Golden Girls" went on to play Judge Judy 🤣 Seriously, has anyone ever seen those two in the same room at the same time?!? I think not! 😏
@@RazvanMihai88 Well that was a A Rumor I heard. Heard but I really didnt know Im not the type to nose into the real lives. I wasnt lying it just what I heard. IDK know. Could she have beena Granddaughter cause The actress is likely pretty young . I was sure she was some relation of why the likeness but I heard this over 15 years ago

And that whole scene was a monologue too! Couldn't have been easy
Dorothy vs Haha, is a hilarious fight.
that wasn't Rose, talking to Charlie.
it's Betty White, talking to her late husband, Allen Ludden.
Awwww. True.
I get choked up every time I see that scene.

Betty was likely thinking of Allen during that scene and other times she got emotional over “Charlie”

I Love This Episode.
When you are alone in the world and have no one, each birthday is like Rose's? Other holidays are like that also, just another ordinary day?
That is so sad 😥
❤
What did you say at 9:06? That is a lot of
What?
Oh! A lot of pink 😁
the girl playing young Dorothy was Bea Arthure Daughter so how they look alike worked pretty well
