Hey guys in this video we check out the Duo Sonic by Fender. This guitar has some tasty tones. Kind of strat/teleish, but all so has it's own thing. Check it out and let me know what your think.

I have a 1957 Fender Duosonic, I bought in 1968 when I was 11 years old from a neighbor. I played in bands for years. Still have it but it stays home now, my 1972 Telecaster and '86 Strat go on the road with me.
Thank you for sharing! I love Duo Sonic!
This is the best demo of this guitar that I've seen (maybe 8-9 vids). Great colour, great tone and as always great playing.
Thanks man!
Now here's a guitar the designers hit out of the park. Everything done right! All matches very well! Too bad no belly cut and that happens occasionally where everything is done right, imo. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome, thanks for watching and commenting!
Ok, I’m absolutely in love that color combination.😍 Sand body, gold pickguard and a maple neck? Sweet! Oh, and thanks for the fun demo!
David Parker desert tan with gold guard
Guitar sounds great. Really like your style of playing!
Thanks Sal!
Awesome playing ! This is a great color and I like the cross between a tele and strat comparison. Think I'll get one of these. Be a nice change from a Tele which I was thinking of buying. Will check out your channel. Thanks!
Right on, cool looking axe and great playing.
Thanks!
My 5th or12th time watching, I got the guitar. This is by far still the best video for it, now I’m just copying your playing! Love it!!!
🤟👍
I agree. I watched a lot of video reviews before buying mine. None of them showcase the range of sounds and styles this can do as well as Mr. Bischoff has done here. If I'd come across this one a year ago I wouldn't have needed to watch anything else - I'd have been down to the shop like shit from a goose wanting to check one out!
Great demo, you can really tell what tones this guitar can give you by the wide range of notes and effects played (how he picks strings, hammers, etc), and also of course by changing the pickup positions. Also, the solos were very pleasant, for several minutes I forgot I was watching a review and just enjoyed the solos! Thanks for this, Rich.
Thank you!
I have the Squier Classic Vibe version in the same Desert Sand finish. Bought it back in 2012, and it's still my favourite guitar. They have their own special mojo.
Like em , 1 in a local store but not for long . I gota go .
Did you get one?
Really nice, concise review. It shows off the guitar really well. The colour has really grown on me these last few weeks..... So much so that one will be delivered today :)
Good job, it’s about time someone did a good review on this rig😎👍
Came for the review, stayed for the playing.
Fantastic demo and tasteful playing - thank you. I like the fact that you demo all the positions. I'm waiting for mine to arrive and you've made me feel even happier with my decision.
I picked up one of these recently and they are really great. HUGE amount of fun to play and great sounds. Your playing is really, really wonderful so, here, have a subscription!
Thanks!
Nice playing holy cow, really made it a great video 🔥
Tasty playing and great tone
Thanks you brother!
Rich can play so tastefully.... ❤️🎵🎸
Thanks Willis!
Easily my favorite offset guitar
Great playing
Wey Hey! Finally a video where I can actually listen to the Guitar!
Just got mine....love it....light and the ideal couch guitar......just restrung with 012-054 NYXL.....fantastic for experimental jazz.....
sounds good for soloing
but hard to tune B and G strings for open chords on mine Squier
nearly impossible
it only tunes open C chord or open A chord not both together
Sounds cool.
Sounds good!👍👍😎
Thanks!
A guitar that is the right size for the average person!
I randomly stumbled on this video and thought you sounded like you were from Utah. Then you mentioned Mainstreet Guitars in Logan. Then I knew. Fellow Utahn.
👍🤟
Oh my god, I said oh my god !! The music you play is absolutely wonderful !! And that sound, incredible !! Don't laugh at me, did you use overdrive ?? Sorry, i just saw in the video description "Line 6 Helix Multi Effects Guitar".
this thing looks brilliant, does the shorter scale make for a very different feel compared to a normal scale length?
Felt a little easier to play, from what I remember.
It’s very good feeling and fun!
I collect telecasters and have a few Strats. This guitar sits by my recliner & gets played constantly.
Great review, thanks.
I understood the Duo was intended as a low cost student instrument when it was first released. I always thought it looked a bit 'Mickey Mouse' although that particular model being demoed doesn't look so bad. I'm a bit wary of aluminium pick guards and single coil pickups. Aluminium is a good electrical conductor and an aluminium guards acts as a shorted turn around single coils. The eddy current tends to kill the high end response and can make single coils sound lifeless and muffled. And with that top mounted jack, if you stand on the lead, you may put a bend in the guard.
Sounded good to me.
The guitar sounds very good and looks the part too, who cares what conducts better than the other thing as long as the sound is there and this one has it, including the price!
@@dragan4658 Well there are those of us who don't care why the light comes on when we flip the switch and those of us who do, so that when we flip the switch and there is no light we have some idea of how to fix it.
@@ResoBridge Terry, that is a completely different issue but thanks for sharing. Besides, this guitar didnt sound muffled at all so the point is moot. Play guitar and enjoy!
The originals in the mid-1950s had anodized aluminum pickguards, but they were replaced with plastic ones not long after. I'd be very surprised if the pickguard on this particular model/color was in fact aluminum.
Edit: According to shop.fender at the page specifically for the desert sand Duo Sonic, it does indeed have a 1-ply gold anodized aluminum pickguard.
Great sound, great playing. What was your Helix patch?
I was using the Mesa Lonestar amp model with a little bit of verb and delay, vintage 30 speaker models.
I have the Classic Vibe version of this because I saw Warren Ellis playing one during the Grinderman days. This one seems much nicer..
OMG, it is gorgeous!
Yes it is!
Thanks for this thoughtful demo! I would love your opinion on how it sounds clean? It's sounded a lot thinner than a tele or a strat on a few of the videos I've watched and I'm curious if that's just a byproduct of recording with subpar gear or just what the pickups sound like? Thanks!
I didn't think they sounded thin. I really liked the sound of this guitar.
Great demo. How does it compare to a Jag neck? Oh, and gloss neck yes or no?
Similar, the neck is not glossy.
Ayyyyyy
Id like opinions: does having no contour/ridge like on strats, where you might rest your strumming arm on the body make it any harder to play? Also, I have a mustang bass that had a glossy neck and I hated it so much I had to sand it down, (have sweaty hands) is the glossy fretboard on the duo sticky/tough to play?
No and no.
Sweet playing still bad ass
I'm pretty sure I ended up buying this exact guitar from Main Street Guitars in Logan.
Nice. It's a good one!
Does it sound tone wise much differemt from start thinking of getting one in thianor tidepool ?
Nice work! Where did you find that backing track you’re jamming over?
Thanks, I don't remember.
Single coils sound great distorted for soloing. Do you like the SS version better than the S and H? Just wondered.
Haven't tried the SH, but I really like this one.
Would this be a good guitar for someone with smaller hands ?
Yes
Do smaller scale guitar make it easier to do chords and barre chords? Or is it the same. Will my muscle memory be all over the place?
Same
Nice video
Is it $599.99, Rich?
Is the pickguard metal?
Yes
Pickguard 1-Ply Gold Anodized Aluminum
I know because it says so in the factory description, oh, and because I bought one.
$799.00 today
should have stuck with the original 21 fret neck out of respect
Original models had a 22.5" scale. The student line didn't have a 24" option until after the Mustang came out. A desert sand 56 Duo-Sonic would absolutely have a @22.5".
I think you need to practice a bit more sonny 😆
You are correct! I do...
thats a childs guitar not for a grown cowboy
