The first vintage Fender I had the privilege of playing was a 1966 white Duo-Sonic with a tortoiseshell pick guard. It was a completely torn up guitar in need of some serious TLC but it still played very well and I loved it. The paint had checking all over, the pick guard was cracked and had chunks missing, the front pickup cover was busted open, the neck was old and needed new frets, it needed new strings and it needed a good cleaning.
Have a guilty secret. I have an amazing player plus top strat, gorgeous flame maple top, chqnged all pickup covers/knobs for more retro cream, added fancy string tree, had nut replaced with bone nut, full fret level and dress.... Have been playing my daughter's player mustang, bone stock...... Think i may prefer it!. Acousticly this is. The mustang is sooooo much louder and clearer when unplugged than mine. Will be plugging hers into my ac30 later and see how it compares amplified!
My first guitar is the firemist gold version of this guitar. Mine however doesn't sound like that all (beginner). I struggled with the sound once I got it home and finally found something on my Spark 40 that made it the guitar I hoped it was. Listening to the outro, that is the tone I was chasing with it, I settled on a Pink Floyd crazy diamond setting. Thank you for doing this video. I asked about it on Reddit after I first got it and so many people were telling me it wasn't a mustang due to not having a trem. Whatever. It sounds great in the right hands.
Thanks for your great demo and comparison. You answered any questions I had on these axes. I’m sold on the Mustang just based on your outro jam. Really nice playing!
That crazy introduction was worth the whole presentation, Rich. I would probably choose the Mustang over the duo for the same reason I snagged (another model you've advertised and demoed) the Modern Player Telecaster Deluxe Thinline, because it's more different
Intro was a great laugh!... My pick is the Mustang love the clean sounds not keen on offset guitars... I have one just a budget jazzmaster style but it sounds and play's great... Fender always bring something different to the table wonder what 2021 will bring?☺
Desert Sand Duo Sonic contesting a Paranormal Squier Super Sonic in Ice Blue Metallic at home for that "Shoe Gaze" tone. Though a cheap-as-chips Squier Mustang has got plenty of groove too. IMO, perfect for new players, young players and a different tone.
My father-in-law played a mustang in the late 60's in HS. It was white with a red pickguard. Always tells me he regrets selling it. I think he wants me to get one so he can play it. Ha!
I saw the test with the gold, now with the blue, can you do a test with the orange please? (I bought it) Ok, I plead guilty, it's just to listen to you play guitar.😒😒
Of the 2 offsets, which do you prefer for clean tones? (Jazz, Blues) Also, your opinion of the new Spark Amp?, or would a small Fender tube be better (home only)? Thanks
Thanks for sharing! I love Duo Sonic!
Thanks Tomo!

Hahaha. Great intro. I was hooked from the start. Sounds killer, looks really fun to play. Oddballs be rewarding.

love the intro honestly
Love it. Great video. Love the playing, and the humor
excellent video and presentation. have been dawdling between the duo and the Mustang and now going for the latter, thank you for your help.
Duo sonic for me. Like to hear the classic vibe mustang compared to these two.
I'll see if I can get my hands on one.
Your blues at the end - very nice.
Great playing and tone as always. Happy New Year Rich!
Great playing and wonderful tone! What amp did you use for the demo?
Line 6 Helix Friedman BE Model.
@@RichBischoff Thanks a lot! Great tone!!

Cool stuff coming from Fender.
Message from the future, 2021 didn't bring much. Fingers crossed for 2022
Have you tried the fender lead 3. Be cool for u to do a review thanks. Like the duo sonic. Better tone.

These newer Duo-Sonic inspired Fenders and Squires are a "God Send". They are more beholding to the 1950's Duo Sonics than any Mustang.

Great playing Bro.
Thanks a lot!
I miss those prices
you can say that again
miss my Fender Mustang, made in the 60s, sold it back to the store where I bought it, they put it in a case and it's not for sale! dyam!
You sold me man. I want a mustang now. Not even jojing
I do to actualy after hearing how they sound. I might look for used one. But has to have those same pickups.
Are the pickups the same on the Duo and the Mustang?
Not $599 in the year of inflation. $799 now.
Yup. Every vid I did a year ago, just add $200.
Hey rich - great playing bro!⭐️ I think it's the stang thang for me but the color might be swaying my choice! Check you later!Bw.
Mustang but the Duo Sonic was close!!
I saw the test with the gold, now with the blue, can you do a test with the orange please? (I bought it)

Which pickups did you like best Rich? Mustang or duo sonic ?
Thanks for your channel !!!!
Duo Sonic.
Same pickups exactly. Mustang 250 pots/ Duo Sonic 500 Pots.
Owned both from the offset series, pickups identical
@@rebelandthehearts Really?

I feel like I liked this one better for cleans. I haven't played a spark...
@@RichBischoff Thanks - do you have these guitars at your studio in Perry? (I live in North Ogden - not far)
No they are at Main Street Guitars in Logan.
Rich you make that guitar look small! Hahaha!
Cus I'm fat?
@@RichBischoff hahaha! No but I can guessing you are a pretty big dude! Well over 6 foot?
I mean, they are small guitars
