For the people commenting on the horse, dont worry the horse has a blanket on it that helps with the comfort, and they treat there horses so well, and the horse doesnt get tired cause this is what it is trained for.
What made me uneasy was knowing that there was like 400 lbs on the horses back multiple times, more or less... he looked so muscular though I'm sure he was okay. I love seeing everyone move with the horse! They stayed balanced and that's in itself is an accomplishment! Awesome job!
Yeah, this horse is 1,800 pounds at least, and vaulting rules say you can only have X percent (I want to say it's 10-20%) of the horses weight on them at a time. Bigger horse means more weight allowance. :)
I agree with the people who say this is animal cruelty. Only larger, stronger horses, like warmbloods or drafts, are used for vaulting with multiple people. And we couldn't take our horse to the county fair without going through vetcheck, and we only did showmanship and three other riding classes, so I can imagine the vet inspection they do for vaulting competitions is even more extensive. I think this is an amazing sport, and I applaud this group's skill and hard work :)
That's a beautiful horse. When I was young I trained my horse to stop and stay with me if I ever became unseated. My then cocky, pubescent older brother decided to try a cowboy horse trick he had seen... while riding my horse. So, off he goes across a pasture at a canter, and he vaults from the saddle thinking he would hit the ground and vault back on. Horse stopped. Brother didn't. Makes me laugh 30 yrs later.
An abused or neglected horse wouldn't be able to do this kind of work, frankly. Amazing work. I thought I was so cool that I can jump on bareback, but I'd probably end up with a broken neck trying it at a canter. XD
the stirrups (in vaulting theyre called cossack straps) are for balance, and so us neckbases dont have to cling for dear life with our legs and get em even more bruised up than we have to.
I love vaulting so much. Cross country and vaulting made my life. My boyfriend watched once and got mad at another guy touching me. Idiot. I've done a backflip dismount, and rolling over someone's back. Does anyone have proof of an on the horse, unassisted back flip? I don't know who you would lobby, but this needs to be an Olympic sport, period.
These are mellow horses! Jeez! I don't like that half the time they were standing on the more sensitive and prone to becoming sore part of the horses' back, but the horse wasn't really doing anything that would make it even more stressful.
Again from my experience the wear and tear I feel on myself and my horse after a cross country run is a hell of a lot more than after vaulting. Plus, you practice everything on a stationary object first so you have YOUR balance figured out so you're not throwing yourself all around on the horse trying to learn moves.
From what I've done with vaulting it's all about balance. It's not throwing the horse off side-to-side because if you're off balance side-to-side your face is in the dirt. When I vaulted I couldn't be over 115 lbs - that was the rule in my barn if I was going to be lifted. Although there maybe be more weight (add 115 plus maybe a 160 guy) you have to spread the weight out just to stay on. You also don't canter a vaulting horse in a circle more than three days a week and work them otherwise.
Looks beautiful and requires alot of talent. But what bothers me (and I hope in my case it was an isolated case) is the damage these horses have afterwards, my friends ex vaulting horse had extensive back problems and the vet said this was due to his former vaulting years. He suffered in pain everyday, or course other riding styles the back problems can occur but your weight is evenly balanced, some of these moves really create pressure points. It is sad how disposable animals are in sport
WOW AMAZING WORK, I tried vaulting for fun with my horse..didn't work out. I pretty much fell after trying to stand up, HAHA. These vaulters are OUTSTANDING! I dont believe it hurts the horse because well horses weight 1000 POUNDS OR MORE, and vaulters usually dont weight that much x]]
thanks for that comment! seriously! it really got me thinking...cuz i was thinking "i wish i could do that!" but really...i think riders have a much better connection with the horse.
It's always been referred to as a "vaulter" in my experience. You don't have to be a 'rider' to be an equestrian, but the first focus is always the horse. but unlike someone who only "rides" the vaulter is a through and through athlete who mus also train themselves. Trust me that big guy who bases most of the moves can do the full splits in all directions.
That horse is probably thinking " I better be getting a whole bunch of oats and carrots after this.....crazy humans jumping moving all over my back.....wht the heck are they trying to accomplish up there?!!! LOL. And I thought regular gymnastics was hard...
my cuzin used to do that...she wanted to go pro but then her horse slipped when her team was practicing...her, a man and the horse all when down...the man was on top of her and the horse was on top of them both...she had severe injuries and hasnt done it sence...
@simbagirl31 no, i vault on a horse named bogey whose an Arab that used to have MAJOR behavioral issues but the vaulting has actually made him a much better horse to ride as well. my instructor got him as a donation because of his attitude problems so it doesn't really matter about the breeding of the horse...just the time put into it :) hope that helped
its beautiful and cool and all that- I jsut fell sorry for the horse having to go in circels one way getting dissy- couldnt they at least change direction- horses have feelings too!
@iheartsrangerpony it most definately is. lol the judges would have deducted for that. but the deductions off of the horse score were probably insignificant compared to the points they earned for difficulty, composition and performance. :)
Ok since there seems to be a # of Comments that are a bit uninformed. 1 - you are looking at 5 min (the longest span in vaulting) of a the horses life. I am currently working 4 vaulting horses in dressage. 2 - most horses come to vaulting because they can't continue their previous careers. because of the connection needed by the VAULTER with the HORSE vaulting is relatively light work for the horse. I had an off the track mare that loved this because it got the weight off her swayed back.
omg really can you give me any tips on how to get up on a horse and do handstands. I am about to start and I do get a bit scared doing things so do you think you could help me??? Thanx
Vaulting is only as hard as you make it; if you just want to mess around in walk and trot then it's easy, but as soon as you decide that you want to go to a National/international level then you have to start traiing your ass off and working really hard. Vaulting at a low level is fun and easy at a high level it's absurdly difficult and most people don't have what it takes.
@iheartsrangerpony i thought it looked like 4 beats too. i read that in the 90's some western riders were trying to get their horses to lope so slowly that the horses actually did something called "tropping" were their front half is trotting and the back half is loping. its not allowed in western classes now and it looks like thats what this horse was doing. it doesnt really matter cause this isnt a western class. its still interesting/odd to see.
this is actualy realy hard i have been riding for 5 years and i can only stand on the pony's back while walking. then again i havent had any lessons, even still...
no need to be rude, i'm not stupid i know the pad is there for the comfort but was i talking about the pad? no i was talking about the stirrups. thanks.
For the most part the horse is owned and maintained by the club, however I have had 2 personal horses that thought vaulting was cool so I've used them.
This is no more painful than people riding them. For vaulting they use draft horses or mixes because they're know for being strong and having, huge, wide back. And it's not like the kids flipping on their backs are huge and fat - they're thing and probably way next to nothing. Besides, if the horse didn't want them on it's back, they wouldn't be on it's back.
SUCH A GOOD HORSE!!! SUCH BEAUTIFUL WORK FROM THE PERFORMERS!! WHAT A WONDERFUL TREAT TO SEE!! Congrats on your hard work!!
I've tried Horse vaulting and, my, it was so very hard. I have so much respect for these vaulters!
I love this video! They are so perfect!:)
You guys are SOOO awesome at vaulting!!! Love the team freestyle!
i did a project on vaulting last year for school... it's really amazing what these people and the horses can do! ;)
i have never seen anything like this..that is unbeliveable!!yall did an increbible job..wut balance!! well done!
Yeah, so much fun. I miss it, it's nice to be able to watch on here.

wow, you balance and coordination has to be flawless to do this!!
Wow! That was amazing, seriously this just screams 'BALANCE!!!"
Amazing!

Makes me laugh 30 yrs later.
wow, i actually thought they were really good! loved their dismounts!
how many tragic falls must have been endured.. respect
Wow! That's so beautiful... Why haven't I ever seen this sport in action before? lolz
their synced running to the electro music makes me cheesed out omfg i can't
An abused or neglected horse wouldn't be able to do this kind of work, frankly.

My favourite sport because it combines the two sports that i have spend 12 years doing :) I'm 15...
O.O DANG that was GREAT I was like O.O the whole time haha! great performance
that is incredible! So much trust! good horse too! very calm :)
I dunno how people do this...for me, just standing on a walking horse was hard enough. XD Amazing!
I love vaulting so much. Cross country and vaulting made my life. My boyfriend watched once and got mad at another guy touching me. Idiot. I've done a backflip dismount, and rolling over someone's back. Does anyone have proof of an on the horse, unassisted back flip? This is INSANE omg... sooo amazing!!!
These are mellow horses! Jeez! I don't like that half the time they were standing on the more sensitive and prone to becoming sore part of the horses' back, but the horse wasn't really doing anything that would make it even more stressful.
AMAZING I love this! I tried some vaulting and it is not easy!
Amazingly docile horses!
Haha, nationals in Denver. Yay. I liked this kur. All vaulting is always much nicer when seen live though :)
These things are always amazing to watch
hamina hamina hamina ha! THAT WAS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! Im taking vaulting lessons in march, i am SO EXCITED!
This is fantastic!

Love the idea of vaulting :)
I would love to have a go

omfg that was amazing just amazing!!! WOW!!!
this should be in the olympics and yeah I have tried it as well i hated it but I love watching it
What a good horse!!!!
holy shizzel!!! this is soo cool
Those horses are bred to haul around massive loads of produce, carriages, barrels of beer etc. He/she probably barely notices the vaulters are there.
Wow what A SPORT!
that makes us feel loved^^

Wow... good work. Keep it up.
i think the opening piece when they get on the horse is Senorita by Bond.
Vraiment beau ! bravo !
i wish i were there to watch it!
This should be in the olympics! way better than the rhymic gymastics
thanks for that comment! seriously! it really got me thinking...cuz i was thinking "i wish i could do that!" but really...i think riders have a much better connection with the horse.

I'm actually one of the gymnists on that horse
Ok since there seems to be a # of Comments that are a bit uninformed.

At 3:39 horse breaks stride...THAT must have been disconcerting ...but the vaulters handled it well
omg really can you give me any tips on how to get up on a horse and do handstands. I am about to start and I do get a bit scared doing things so do you think you could help me??? Thanx
Wow, this sport sure is crazy. I guess gymnasts got bored of the gym horse thing? Either way, amazing stuff.
Wow that's cool except wouldn't the horse get tired but anyway how does it take the weight but otherwise awesome!
Hi.. love it - but did you win?? Just asking because it was so WOW
Funny I have 3 little gymnasts taking lessons right now ;).
very very compliments fro italian president of vaulting Giuseppe Sancin
thats so cool o.o
whoa awesome

i done vaulting once.. it was heaps fun.. but scary xP
Cool!
is there any special training involved for the horse? like, does the breeder know its gonna be a vaulting horse?
IM SO PROUD TO BE A VAULTER!!!!!!!!
@iheartsrangerpony i thought it looked like 4 beats too. i read that in the 90's some western riders were trying to get their horses to lope so slowly that the horses actually did something called "tropping" were their front half is trotting and the back half is loping. its not allowed in western classes now and it looks like thats what this horse was doing. it doesnt really matter cause this isnt a western class. its still interesting/odd to see.
obviously the horse is not harmed at all during this sport but can someone please explain to me how? I'm really interested
When is this? I would love to go!
Could i use these clips to school play? Awesome!
Sorry, i can't speak good english : (
@JulioAlyForever64
the standard size for a larger horse should be a 15m circle.
this is actualy realy hard i have been riding for 5 years and i can only stand on the pony's back while walking. then again i havent had any lessons, even still...
So cool....
no need to be rude, i'm not stupid i know the pad is there for the comfort but was i talking about the pad? no i was talking about the stirrups. thanks.
I think I know what exercise you're talking about, you get boosted up through a teepee position right?
Were you in this video?
I hate to see comments like that too, they show how little they know about horses
For the most part the horse is owned and maintained by the club, however I have had 2 personal horses that thought vaulting was cool so I've used them.

@marianware hahaha! LOL made me smile!! :DD
