Great Video! We need to correct you on one thing, Bryan: AeroVee start-up procedure. The AeroVee (or any engine with the AeroInjector) is started with the fuel on. Turn your tank valve on, push the mixture to full rich, then push the start button. You DO NOT need to begin turning the starter before adding fuel. The mixture valve has an o-ring and is a secondary fuel shutoff when pulled out (full lean), so that's how you shut the engine down, just pull the mixture to idle cutoff.
Also, we need to note that Casey has been a fantastic help to Sonex in refining the engine mount system. He was kind-enough to allow us to copy his machined aluminum mount into what we now offer as the ACV-P54-KIT system that attaches to our engine mount weldment. We offered to call it the "Cooper Mount" but Casey told us that was not necessary ;-) Casey is a great guy, a real asset to the Sonex community, and a great ambassador for the aircraft.
That is the most beautiful Sonex I have ever seen!
Best looking Sonex I've ever seen. That firewall forward package really transforms the Sonex.
Agreed! 100% The power/weight ratio and balanced with this airframe seems to be a PERFECT MATCH!
Excellent installation. It takes a lot to be one of the first. He should be proud.
Absolutely. We missed him last year (too busy covering the ONE-WEEK-WONDER). But just had to tackle him this year while onsite to see it in person!
Sonex, we NEED this cowl, beautiful!
I have owned 2 sonex legacy aircraft vw and Jab 3300 and if a rotax installation like that ever becomes standard on the B model sonex then they will truly rule the light sport market. Sonex needs to hire that guy!!!
Nice work on this plane, I don't recall ever seeing a tail wheel pant, it made me smile. I had a Sonerai II way back....
Anything for a few miles per hour in Cruise right?
I saw Casey’s plane at Casa Grande’s fly in a few years back, very nicely done. The work you’ve done to clean up the radiator scoop since I saw it looks great.
Good to know he is still "tweaking" things to make them better. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Really like the detail and conversation about all the ins & outs!
That is one clean instrument panel!
Great job!👏
Great interview - Thanks for going into all the details.
LOVE the details. It's the Meat and Potatoes of these builds! Thanks for the feedback!
I really enjoyed this interview. Thanks to both of you for putting it together. 👍😃☀️
Looks really great Casey! Congrats on the success.
Here comes the Oshkosh content! Popcorn at the ready!
Every day... for the next 2 weeks! (Approximately) How about that for some Original Aviation Content?! Thanks for stopping by!
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel Looking forward to it! I was refreshing RUclips all last week, even though I knew that was unrealistic.😆 Thanks for all the hard work Bryan!
I have said this before, but you always ask the best questions! Awesome interview!
Thank you Michael! Much appreciated.
Freaking sweet Sonex.
One of the better looking ones out there for sure! We were SUPER IMPRESSED!
***Airframe SPECS on Codey's Sonex: Legacy (A-Model) Empty Weight = 685lbs with a Gross Weight of 1,150lbs.
Great video and interview. I had a nice conversation with Casey also about his build, and engine install. One of the things I came back from OSH with was the desire to end up with one of those engines in my Sonex.
Great episode !! Learn something is the key of fun
An amazing Sonex. Great job.
That thing sounds freaking awesome!
Not bad right? Thanks for chiming in!
Nice work!!
Casey did an excellent job for sure. Thanks for saying hello here.
Very impressive
Thanks for chiming in here. :-)
👍🏻…excellent content
THANK YOU Thomas! Much appreciated!
Nice Sonex! I’ll bet it climbs like a beast! Thanks BrYan! Ha! My iPad automatically capitalizes the “y” now because of you and Just Plane Silly.
THAT... is Just Plane AWESOME! It's the "correct" spelling after all. 1,500' per min SUSTAINED is something to talk about on a small light airframe for sure!
Stick boot are Awesome
Right? Good design.
More Osh Kosh news please 🛩
COMING RIGHT UP! Expect one per day for the next couple weeks!
Running too cool in the winter seems to be a common Rotax 912 thing. A lot of people just put a piece of metal tape over part of the radiators to restrict some of the airflow (though a thermostat is probably a better option).
Agreed... as long as they stick "open" if they ever stick. :-)
Running too hot in the summer is also an issue. They just can’t be sitting around at idle for long periods or staying in a full power climb for a long period. In cruise they do fine.
Can you give us some details on the wing tips?
Casey cannot Conform nor Deny that it improves performance. (NO date before/after to compare). But he sure thinks they look COOL! :-)
What is the benefit of the wrapping around all exhaust pipes? Reduce heat under cowl? Any down side? Thanks!
Lovely Sonex. What's the empty weight?
Where did you get the wing tips from and how much do they help performane?
Thats part of homebuilt
They put a rotax in the one week wonder sonex B at Osh 22.
YES! You are 100% correct. But guess what?! THIS... was finished and flying with MANY hours on it well before the OWW in the Sonex B model for OSH22. True story. I missed him last year. :-)
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel I had no idea. Thought the one week wonder was the first. Nice video. Good to see ya at Osh.
Maybe I would like to build an aircraft.
Maybe... you should try! Let's get going. :-)
Sounds like a diesel out on the highway.
Sounds GOOD! :-)
Make more long videos. Still, don’t answer your questions! Let the builder talk..
You like the slightly longer format ehhh? Thanks for the input. I try not to talk to myself in these interviews. I actually enjoy the conversation. I could create "SILENT FILMS" I guess :-)
What is wrong with this guy? I want to build an aircraft with everything that I want in it. Can he give me everything that I want? I want portability versatility and the easiest way to get me from here to there. Why is he whispering so much? I just need to get where I want to go. and I don't want to say where I am going. 😄
You are all over the place. Haha! Just start building something will yah! And then report back to us what you built!
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel Yeah, it might be a while. I will be fully retired in about a year and a half. Then I can spend more time doing things.
