Allstate is horrible. They keep adding my adult children to my auto policy even though they have been long gone, married, kids, etc in other states. They argue with me that they "could" drive one of my cars. What??? One after the other, they've added all of them and tried to charge my account behind my back.
I've handled coverage issues like this plenty of times as an adjuster. This sounds shady as hell. It's not the adjuster who is doing it, it's upper MGMT. If they are long gone and married with proof of their own residency and of legal adult age there should be no reason why they are adding them to the policy unless they have a recorded statement or documentation of you admitting that your children stay with you long periods of time and even then that is still a shady gray area. Of course I don't have all the facts but they must think they got enough documentation on you. Unfortunately, people lie all the time and have adult children living with them to avoid premiums. Have all your children excluded off the policy if they are never going to drive your cars. You have to sign an excluded driver form. Also, I hope you don't have your children vehicles under your policy because that can set off some red flags.
Farmers insurance was trying to do this to my mother numerous times. Some of my brothers and sisters were long gone with their own homes and families. They also had their own policies.
35 Years AAA. Problem with autopay last summer. Didn't tell me, cancelled my insurance, didn't tell me that either. Put back to year 1 membership. Fighting for MONTHS with AAA on through the BBB. Finally solved it. New Insurance (progressive), more coverage, better price. And they honoured my longevity at AAA.
Tried to get Progressive at a higher price than normal for auto after I got a notice from my company that my policy was not going to renew. Did not have enough money to draft the first payment on the phone with Progressive. Seems like they wanted 226 a month back in 2011. They notified my state's insurance dept that I did not have insurance, a busybody move. By the time my State contacted me, I did have insurance. I had to actually prove I had insurance because Progressive decided to contact my State. I know your last company does this if you stop making payments and lapse but I was not even insured with Progressive, they were wrong and I had to take time and send documentation. All because they had decided to try and rat me out.
@@taparker6190 Where did you end up getting insurance? My full coverage auto & $70,000 renter insurance is under $300/year. The trick to insurance rates is an old car and really high credit score. Those make all the difference.
Fred loya just did me like that an my deductible will go up to 2,500 they don't have the 1000 dollar deductible any more and I had auto pay so that was the end of my policy
After decades with Liberty Mutual, I got a 100% increase on auto insurance. No accidents, no tickets, over 800 credit score. Tried several times to call to find out why. EVERY time, no matter which phone rep. answered, they refused to connect me with ANYONE to discuss situation. I could only leave message for a call back from THE ONLY person apparently, who could handle my account. Who NEVER called me back. After a month of my voicemails getting no response, I left them entirely for another carrier. Best result, 6 months later, "MY" former account rep. from Liberty Mutual called me wanting to know why I left !!! When I explained why, she denied my actual real life situation occurred, loser! I told her put me on do not call list and hung up on this argumentative idiot. BTW, Allstate my new carrier, insured me at old rate I had at Liberty. Go figure, shop around.
Allstate still has a lousy reputation. About 40 years ago I was rear ended by one of their clients. My car was 9 years old and paid off. I only had the required basics so no collision coverage on my car. They based the value of my car on a different brand that was made the same year but smaller. I got an ulcer trying to get $1,200 instead of the $900 they offered. After that I started spreading the word. I heard many stories from former customers and victims. Allstate is consistent.
Liberty Mutual is the worst. I've been with them claims free for homeowners, tenant homeowners, umbrella, car and earthquake. After 1 claims experience I am done. They make 1000 excuses and never get back to you forcing you to do the work yourself. 24 years and I am done.
One small homeowners claim with The Hartford was a drawn out nightmare. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. Even if you maybe save a couple dollars a month, don’t fall for it. You will regret it later.

I am disappointed with SF agent i received an increase on my auto insurance of 13% I have been with this agency for 14 years never missed a payment had no accident. Only called for a tow three times when I only could use the tow service twice in one month I was told. I paid another tow company to move my vehicle to a repair shop that took good care of my vehicle and I paid for the work. I know insurance was going up but 13% is outrageous. I notice on my SF statement they had my husband has principal driver when I should be principal driver, I own the vehicle. My agent insulted my husband and I by suggesting my husband take some kind of test with the DMV. When in fact my husband received a letter from the DMV he has a great driving record. Then the agent wanted to offer me a gift card instead of trying to find a better cost. We have the insurance bundle homeowner insurance and auto insurance. The only discount we received during the COVID was just $20.00 off not 25% discount has promised. Then the agent said the insurance company put the 25% charge to our auto insurance. This company is looking for profits not helping good paying and no accident customers. Too many red flags have surfaced.
There has to be a way to hold these Insurance companies accountable, since they are FCRA compliant. They are constantly reviewing a consumer's credit reports, causing multiple inquiries. They think they are gods and have unlimited authority, when they raise the rates.
Insurance companies cannot arbitrarily raise rates. Obtaining a rate increase is a complicated and lengthly process. The insurance company must prove to their State Insurance Dept regulators that they must increase their rates in order to remain financially solvent and be able to pay claims. Every insurance company must increase their rates from time to time to stay up with inflation and their cost of doing business. People hate insurance companies and their agents because insurance contracts are complicated legal documents. People assume anything that happens is a covered cause of loss but that isn’t true. All insurance contracts contain exclusions, limitations, as well as exclusions by defining what is and is not a covered object or occurrence. As an agent I would provide my clients with a list of common exclusions & limitations relative to the policy they were purchasing. I’d have them sign that list, give them a copy, and image it in their file. That saved a lot of frustration and disgruntled clients when a claim was denied because the cause of loss or the object wasn’t covered.

Every company, no matter the product they’re selling, had better be focused on profit or they won’t be in business. Insurance companies have a financial rating that is public information. A+ is the best then A then A- then B+ then B etc. Any rating that isn’t in the “A” category is risky. They may or may not be able to pay their claims. Therefore a “Good” insurance company is one that is financially solvent. Also, the State’s Insurance Department is the customers friend. They have the legal authority to take action if the company isn’t following the policy contract or the States Insurance laws, and there is no cost to the insured. Lawyers, of course, will do the same thing but they charge for their services……..and insurance companies have lots of lawyers too, so the fact a customer gets a lawyer doesn’t bother, much less scare, an insurance company.
