It matters not. Players must be free to be wrong, or else cause and effect doesn't really affect the game, and then it's boring. Souls games are the only ones that manage to let you be wrong in the real world thinking about it too, but also at the same time, has no correct answers necessarily. It's so cool...

For part 1, lending on the idea of Dark Souls before Elden ring, one connection could be the arch dragon peak in ds3. The whole point of that place was basically to wait out the end of the world and repopulate it with dragons. That would lend to the idea that dragons once again ruled over the world.
Regarding the duskborn ending, I remember Fia calling the cursemark of death a hallowbrand. I vaguely remember the darksign in ds3 being called a hollowbrand. Funny connection there.

I thought to myself that IF there's something like a joint timeline, Bloodborne takes place after the events of Dark Souls 3 because the curse becomes... bloodborne, through the actions of Gael.
Elden Ring, in turn, takes place within the painting that was painted with the blood of the Dark Soul.
This would explain why the game world is so picturesque and at times, not logcial.

The full moon ending into bloodborne can be supported with the pthumerians aprearing similar to the albinauric of old in the eternal cities (both found underground and both worshipping the stars and outer beings like the moon. Also the moon ending could relate to the outer god moon presance which ranni interacted with unknowingly and set in motion the rise of the beast curse and their hunters

I loved this theory, infact it's now my head cannon, for demon's souls, since it's the age of duskborne, and since immortality was gone from the world, the Erdtree could have also witherd away, its roots deep underground, forming into what is known as the old one, or something like that, I mean, its a coincidence that the old one is a demonic tree.

I think a really interesting note to add to evidence of them existing in a "multiverse" like existence, is the Millwood knights in dark souls 3. It says in their armor descriptions that they worship "the ethereal Oak" which very much describes the erdtree. However we are never introduced to this tree in dark souls, yet the imagery is in shields and other armor as well. But most notable, the Millwood knights are found in the painted world, indicating they are lost or without home. These could be some of the tarnished that were hounded from the lands between.

My headcanon is the timeline is this. Demon's Souls bad ending where the old one shrouds the whole planet in fog leveling all manmade objects to dust and thus begins the ancient era of dragons and the start of Dark Souls. Bloodborne occurs between DS1 and DS2 as one of the many cycles, Bloodborne's influence made apparent in DS3 in many item descriptions and boss fights. Then the age of darkness ending occurs in DS3 and everything is consumed by the deep. Eventually the deep recedes and the start of Elden Ring begins. Items, weapons, armor, and concepts combined, twisted, and reformed in the deep the most durable of concepts being dragons who are the first to reappear and thus the Elden Ring story begins the concept of the age of fire combined with Bloodborne and Demon's Souls elements to become the Erd Tree

Honestly none of them makes sense if you look each case in depth. It is stated very clearly that the Frenzied flame melts all life away into a single huge mass once again, if you think that life could spawn again from this "Oneness" and create specifically the world of Dark Souls despite both working with different laws of reality, you may as well say any other of the games could have come from this ending.
Ranni's ending doesn't get rid of the Greater Will, it will always exist unless the world itself is destroyed, is the manifestation of the collective consciousness wishing for order in a chaotic world, kinda like in Berserk where "God" is the manifestation of humanity's wish for an explanation to their suffering. What Ranni did is get the Elden Ring out of mortal or outer god's reach so no one can play being the King of the world anymore and prevent anyone from taking a stupid desition for all of us, like removing the Rune of Death or literally shattering reality.
The Dusk ending doesn't connect with Demon's souls at all, there are not demons in Elden Ring to begin with, both worlds function differently and the guy just made the connecting because of the grim and bleak aesthetic

All things yearn to converge. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Armoured Core - they are prequels to Elden Ring.
Demon's Souls is Ranni's nightmare - her fears of being a Fool's Idol bound in service to the Two Fingers
Dark Souls is Godwyn's nightmare - keeping lit the flame of frenzy
Bloodborne is Miquella's nightmare upon the altar of blood.
Sekiro is Malenia's nightmare - a warrior tired of a lifetime of pain but unable to stop fighting in service of her lord
Armoured Core 1-5 is Melina's nightmare - the Gloam-eyed queen is a queen of Ravens forced from her home and contracted in the service of others to survive. Armoured Core 6, I suspect, is the closest FromSoft will get to following up the Frenzy Flame ending.
I do think that it is possible that a Bloodborne 2 will be made - possibly with ties to Rykard (hopefully with more mushrooms). But overall I think that the Age of Stars ending is telegraphing that FromSoft is working on developing a new IP with a sci-fi theme.

Late to the party gere but it's definitely all connected. FromSoftware are too creative to be as lazy as use Elden Ring enemy's with the literal same name and appearance as Dark Souls for example
My theory is Elden Ring is the beginning, but as we know time is not linear in the game, also the end. Il try and explain as short as I can:
My theory is for Golden Order and Age of Fracture endings, Elden Ring universe continues as it is, with the outer gods happy this leads to a good future.
Frenzied Flame, inevitably kills everything with little existing for thousands of years. However, as time goes past, the flame is extinguished, leaving the age of the ancients and a world shrouded in fog (smoke), with just the immortal dragons having survived and ruled the world. Then, from an ember, the fire restarted and some beings underneath the world, came into contact with the fire and gained great power from lord souls (great runes), and rose up back to the surface. So the dark souls story takes place. The story then ends, with the painter painting a new world for Gael, of which, is then Elden Ring again, which is the outer gods way of starting again and rectifying. This would explain why so many creature's are the same, weapons and artifacts, plus things being named after Gael.
Age of the stars then leads to Bloodbourne, where at the end we wake from a dream, to cross the fog as tarnished.
Age of duskborn in my eyes leads to sekiro, like the theory in the video states where
beings are trying to get immortality back through what seems to be a form Dragon Communion. We know sekiro is set in Land of Ashina. Ashi, translates to Reed in English. All of the Samurai, Okina Mask and some Katanas in Elden Ring come from "Land of Reed" in their description, which gives some indication the place Sekiro is set is present in Elden Rings universe. And in the Return Sekiro ending, we travel to the west, to the divine dragons origin, likely, the lands between.

Perhaps they used inspiration from The dark Tower and the eard tree contains every level of existence and just like The dark Tower there is a physical embodiment and it's in the lands between. Last coincidence at the end of The dark Tower Roland starts his journey over again only with something new from his past as you do at the end of elden ring. Also in both worlds the world has moved on.

  • @nox_cadit

I rather the theory that DeS is connected to DS/BB, and ER is primordial to all of that, cause inside the Erd Tree we see lots of great trees and the theory suggests that each great tree sustains a world, Lands Between is the main world, the inner most world, and those endless great trees we see inside the erd tree are connected to the other universes, but the souls universe follows a timeline where the order is DeS, DS/BB.
So through lulling the old one back to sleep the world would eventually be healed back together and culminate into BB, where they use blood instead of souls. If we kill the Maiden in Black the fog takes over, and this fog is the same fog from DS1. The first flame appears through the old one wooden body, and thus the soul arts come back to life, but now the irrevocable curse of the old one is manifested through Gwyn's fear making him place the dark sign on humanity, accidentally or purposefully linking it to the flame (soul) and begetting the curse mark and the curse of the undead.
The interesting part is that humanity is always trying to rid itself from the irrevocable curse of the old one. Eventually DS would start to touch BB universe, through the blood paintings, bevause humanity saw that they could not get rid of the curse and they discovered a possible way to get rid of it, through blood. Thus the paintings are ways to try and scape to BB universe.
I never played BB but i know a few things here and there, i believe that there is still a curse on that world, but that is the first tile humanity has a chance of getting rid of the curse altogether, but atba great cost, becoming one of the great ones (or old ones i don't know how are they called).
ER comes into play not only through the great tree but the curse Marika put on the tarnished, they would venture out on other lands and die endless deaths and only then be summoned back to the LB. So the irrevocable curse of the old one is the manifestation of Marika's curse of humanity, and Gwyn's curse too.

I’m going to disagree with the 3rd part of the theory with demon souls since you DONT add destined death to the elden ring destined death is unleashed no matter what ending you go for you add the mending rune of the death prince contrary to what you might believe they are not the same the
mending rune adds life within death while destined death is just the rune that allows death by natural causes and of course it would allow you to kill as another option so from my understanding with the rune of the death prince a human could die, and something like skeletons would be able to live even though I wouldn’t know what would cause a skeleton to be alive but that aside it should be dead in the golden order this would be heretical since the erdtree is supposed absorb the dead, but in this order this would be acceptable

The description on those “couple of dragon related items in ER” aren’t talking about DS1 it’s talking about how before the age of the Erdtree their was a Great Tree and the Erdtree was a plague of the Great Tree. During that time of the Great Tree dragons ruled and there “Elden Lord” was Plucidasax. But then the Plague in the Erdtree turned The Great Tree into the Erdtree and then Placidasax went into hiding and waited until the dragon god and the Great Tree came back. The age of the dragons and the Great tree was over. And then the elden ring came into existence with the Greater Will. This was the Erdtree’ ages god

One super important detail that sort of confirms to me that DS3's painting at the end of Ashes of Ariandel/The Ringed City leads into Elden Ring:
The Two Fingers, who commune with Metyr and then the Greater Will.. Remember the Painter Girl in the Painted World of Ariandel? Do you remember how, upon first discovering her, she is seemingly painting or etching something into the table with her finger? Well, while there are brushes and paint scattered on the table beside where she sits and paints later... I believe she paints the world all **by hand** after receiving the Dark Soul and the flames she desired. This is why the 'Fingers' have that sort of shape and why finger iconography is so rampant in the world. The world of Elden Ring is literally hand crafted-- finger painted even.
The Greater Will is no longer communicating with the fingers because the Painter Girl has died in the outside world, succumbing to the flame, her painting completed.
(Bonus: Look at her painting btw.... Is that... The Gate of Divinity from the DLC?? Where Marika ascended to Godhood?? We see in the promotional CGI trailer that it used to be blood red before Miquella attempted to use it.)

Personally I always thought that Demon’s Souls followed the Dark Lord ending in DS1 (a human is in charge so that just makes sense to me) and the link the fire ending was what eventually causes DS3 with DS2 happening either way. The opening cutscene of Elden Ring talks about ‘crossing the fog’ to the Lands Between so it might follow Demon’s Souls Maiden Killer ending as that causes the world to be lost in a deep fog or be concurrent with the era of Colourless fog that appears in D’sS. Bloodborne could then follow the slumbering Old One ending as Soul Arts are lost with that ending and BB doesn’t have the same magic system.
I’m kind of curious where people would say Kings Field comes in this series though, there’s no reason to not include it really.

I've always theorized that the Frenzied Flame ending kicked off Dark Souls, I mean you even have the "Daughters of Chaos"! Also, I believe that the game Sekiro, could be the Land of Reeds. "A land long been locked in a miserable civil war, during which time it has remained alienated from the cultures of its neighbors. Little wonder that the entire nation has succumbed to blood-soaked madness."

Before I even watch this video, I've always loved the idea of the universes being intertwined somehow, and to me, the arch trees were the key to that
I'm not entirely sure about demon's souls since I haven't completed it yet, but in ds1-3, BB, and elden ring, there's this common theme of ancient trees or pillars, some kind of almost void with pillars rising into the distance
To me it feels like the Erdtrees just are archtrees and by extension different worlds bound together in the void

Rannis ending is misunderstood because a mistranslation that couldn't be changed in time to numerous voice lines already recorded for release. She doesn't bring a dark ending, she takes the Elden ring far away on a journey to destinations unknown, which you take with her, into fear, doubt, and loneliness, because you will leave behind all you know. She's doing this to keep it far from mankind, so their troubles and biases, and natural imperfections cannot corrupt the order. This can be confirmed with a simple Google search. The game is designed in Japanese, the dialogue is written in Japanese, and the first draft is in Japanese. They have to port it to America to be translated, which was rushed because the release was shortened. Thus leading to errors in the complex Japanese languages translation. Slight changes of tone can mean entirely different things, so it is very easy to mistranslate if rushed. And none of it could be fixed because they would have to fly the voice actors out again to re-record every line.....
So no, it's not blood borne.
Age of frenzy is not dark souls, because frenzy flame is madness, not a physical flame, but the anguish of madness focused into a ray that happens to set things on fire. So, you don't keep this thing alight... Because it's not a fire. It's a sentient being/eldritch horror capable of mass manipulation and destruction. And your dumbass fell for it's tricks for a couple highly gimicky spells.
These are fun to think about but there's lore that explains things. And these only work if you look at everything face value. That's like me saying Halo must be the past life of Destinys universe, because they both have ghosts. They aren't even comparable things because of vast differences.
Frenzy isn't even a physical fire, its driving someone so insane their brain starts shooting pure agony from their eyes (hence the damage to you) that sets things on fire because the intensity. Magic in this game is built on intent. And the 3 fingers made the flames of frenzy as intent, because it's not true flames, it too can burn the erdtree, just like the godskin apostles black flames. The Erdtree is impenetrable, it can only be broken with 1 of 3 kinds of fire:
    1. Enchanted fire (Black Flame)
    2. Cursed fire (Frenzy Flame)
    3. Sacred fire (Giants Flame)
Otherwise you aren't getting in. The only thing close to actual fire is Giants Flame. It's extremely hot and is derived from deep magma magic and flames from the intensity of the suns surface. The other two are interesting...ones real fire enhanced and imbued with the rune of destined death. I'm a nerd. Gnight

I personally believe that elden ring takes place at the end
First demon souls, then dark souls, then bloodborne and sekiro (which i think take place at the same time) and finally elden ring
The outer gods are the great ones who are now returning to the planet after being gone, sending their vassals (like Metyr and Eldenbeast) to influence humanity, there's also the cosmic power of glinstone socery to consider as the Carian royals worship the moon and stars, the first flame is represented by the flame of the fell god and perhaps the many different types of fire represent the different aspects of the first flame or maybe the many ages of fire with different lords of cinder linking the flame, there are other aspects form the dark souls era seen with those that live in death and the ancient dragons, lastly demon souls isn't represented much because it was so long ago that nobody even knows it existed,it sort of like the Gobekli Teppe of the souls universe...

That's an interesting theory to think about. Maybe the immediate question to follow this theory might be, if this is true, then which world (game) would come from the "true ending" and which ones would be something akin to "what if" stories?
Or even, could any of these endings happen at the same time (or close to it) to bring more than one of these timelines into existence and maybe take place in different parts of the world?
Love that games can have such interesting lore that people can talk about and theorize on for years and maybe even get things answered eventually.

My theory is that elden ring takes place alongside the soulsborne series in a sort of pocket dimension similar to that of the paintings, think of it as a sort of neverland to the soulsborne series earth.
I have 2 main reasons for believing this,
    1. Elden ring says it exists across the fog in the lands between, doesn't that sound alot like how you get to neverland? They are literally called the lands between and you get there by crossing from other unknown lands, what is the land in-between of? Well to answer that I need to tell you my second reason.
    2. The timeline and technology/magic development of the lands between doesn't fit well within any of the other titles even though those titles actually fit well with eachother, yet there are too many coincidences and connections to the other games for elden ring to just be its own thing in a separate universe.
I believe demon souls take place first, the original souls that were gifted to the world by an unknown entity i belive was from an outer god if not the creator/leader of the outer gods, with the ending of the game resulting in all these souls to be devoured by the big demon thing causing them to eventually consolidate into 3 great lord souls that gwen the chaos witch and the furtive pygmy found leading into ds1-3, during this time period where these souls were consolidating and forming the lord souls the ancient dragons were formed and roamed the land freely, after the events of dark souls 3 a new painted world is created using the blood of the dark soul which directly traces back its power to the outer gods, I think bloodborne takes place in this painting, I think the blood that the church starts using is the corrupted blood of the dark soul and when they starts abusing its power it draws the attention of the outer gods whose power the dark soul comes from leading to the people who used the blood to become cursed and turn into hideous monsters, and as these various gods start interacting with and corrupting the painting bloodborne happens.
Now you may ask when and where does sekero take place ? And to answer your question I think it takes place in the main dark souls world outside of any paintings in inbetween ds2 and 3 in an Eastern land where Shiva of the east and the ninjas are from.
So just to summarize the events in order the outergods gives the world form and souls leading to demonsouls, when that game ends all souls are consolidated leading into an age of fog/dragons until the souls power forms the 3 lord souls causing the events of ds1-3, sekiro takes place in between ds2 and 3 in an Eastern land with no real impact on the events of the main series, the final painting is the world that becomes bloodborne when the church eventually finds and uses the blood of the darksoul that created their world leading to the outergods to once again show their influence and start corrupting anyone and anything that uses the power of the blood. And elden ring takes place alongside these games in a neverland like pocket dimension in this same universe which happens to have closer more direct ties to these outergods.

The flow of time in Lordran is convoluted indeed. I believe there is no true beginning or ending point as far as a timeline goes. They all exist, together and separately, tangled and sometimes crossing into each other. While I love the theory that they are all directly linked to one another in a linear fashion, it just doesn’t make sense thematically. The Erdtree has burned millions of times, the fire linked until everything was ash. These worlds are just blips on an endless and timeless entanglement and exist neither before or after one another.
    Great video btw :)

It is said that Godfrey was cast/sent away with his army/descendants to other realms by Marika only to return once they were "finished" or something like that which led me to believe perhaps Demons' Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro are about a "Tarnished" experiencing and trying to conquer this other realms. I dunno man we need answers and Miyazaki ain't giving the whole picture. Out of these 3 theories the one connecting ER to DarkSouls is the most solid to me.

Dark Souls is definitely before, not after Elden Ring. First it must be pointed out that the Seathe is considered the last of his kind(Everlasting Dragon) and yet even he is no true Everlasting dragon, he was born without the scales of immortality, and does not have legs. The dragon covenant Dragon is a secret survivor of the Everlasting Dragons but he has turned completely to stone and has no way restart the line of dragons. Otherwise the only thing we have left is wyverns in Dark Souls, so it doesn't make sense to think Elden Ring, which is very populated with true Dragons, came after DS. For the Sun Realm shield in elden ring, it is an extremely weak argument as well, as the word "sun" is all it has going for it, the depiction on the shield DOES NOT resemble Anor Londo. Anor Londo is a cathedral style city, the sun shield depicts a defensive fortification style castle that has zero resemblance of anything cathedral-like. They are very different architecture.
Now, proof it is prior, Dark Souls opening lore states:
"In the beginning, the world was unformed, shrouded by fog; homogeneous. Gray crags, archtrees, and everlasting dragons were the extent of that which existed there. This period was known as the Age of Ancients. But then, the Advent of Fire occurred. This created Disparity in the world: with it came heat and cold, life and death, and light and dark. From the dark, came humanoid creatures - Hollows. These creatures found souls near the First Flame..."
We are shown the Age of Ancients had a world before a major event called the Advent of Fire. This world is described of things all that would exist after the Lord of Frenzy Flame ending almost verbatim.
"Homogeneous" is a key word used, one that Hyetta tells us is exactly what the Frenzy Flame will do, "melt all life back into One again"
The Ancient Dragons of ER survive the frenzy flame as well, becoming known as the Everlasting Dragons. ER refers to the dragons as the Ancients many times, and Dark Souls refers to the age prior to the Advent of Fire as the Age of Ancients. The Dark Souls dragon in Ash Lake even turns to stone in direct likeness of the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones of ER.
Finally, the cragtrees would be the remnants of the Erdtree's of ER, by no coincidence do we find that great hollow tree leading to Ash Lake is equally as large as the burnt Erdtree, surrounded by minor Erdtrees/cragtrees, literally recreating the entire Ash Lake experience.
The ER frenzy flame ending we know all life will RETURN to the primordial crucible state with all becoming One again. The frenzy flame wants this as the three fingers trlls us through Hyetta, so we can safely agree the frenzy flame is tied/directly related to this original state of life before it branched out. Well if it branched out before, then it will happen again. The homogeneous state of life created melted together by the frenzy flame is naturally going to become un-homogeneous like it did the first time in the Crucible era, thus painting a picture of life starting from a singular consolidated thing by fire.
Lastly it is quite telling the the Witch of Izaleth attempts to duplicate the original flame of life and that copied flame is called "Flame of Chaos" as we know the Frenzy Flame followers state many times that they associate Chaos with the Frenzy Flame.
So we then arrive at the Dark Souls 1 era, where Dragons and trees the only survivors of a bleak darkened world, now contend with a new life. I am confident theres more that I missed but this is already long enough. Thanks for reading.

Or one of the above. The only connection that makes no sense is a connection to Sekiro, since Sekiro takes place in our world/Japan. It might be a fantasy fictional place in Japan, but it's still Japan, which implies all the rest of our world up until the 17th ish century.
As for the rest, it's fun to speculate. Also I don't know why we have to take Miyazaki's word for it that the worlds are unconnected. For one, he could just be lying so people don't look too hard into it. For two, we really don't have to take the director's word for it even if he is telling the truth. The fun/point of these games is the community solving the mystery and trying to piece together the lore; it's never been about the author or the official canon. This is one of the few communities where we can honestly say the author's intent probably doesn't matter, as even the author might not be aware of all of the pieced-together lore of the games.

Theory: Bloodborne is tied to the Lord of Blood Ending. The Game takes place in Miquela's dream.
Evidence: Miquela, aka St Trina, appears to be asleep in a cocoon full of blood, influenced by Mogh, who is the avatar of the Formless Mother.
In a World that the Formless Mother reigns supreme, blood would eventually corrupt and pervert the users.
Argument: The Great Ones arriving are the result of killing Radahn, which allows them to come to the Lands Between, since the Stars can flow again.

My only thing with the idea that Dark Souls came before Elden Ring is that the dragons in Elden Ring is very clearly are very influenced by the Erdtree. From golden fire to other such item descriptions we know that the Erdtree once favored the dragons. They had their own Elden lord and their own ‘god’ I think it’s more favorable that the dragons took over in a dark colorless world, built in the ashes of the world we left behind. The embers then taking fire and leading Dark Souls.

  • @canadigul1362
    @canadigul1362 Год назад

I think you are kinda in the wrong order, first Demon Souls happend, after the world become foggy, gray and lifeless, this would the start the event of Darksouls.
The age of the dragons start here, then Darksouls 3 seperates in the painted world where blood is the main source of power, like with Farrons Legion and Gale giving the blood of the dark soul.
But the main world burned and dried, having now a new and never seen before power, which starts the unending life of respawning similiar to Darksouls. Runes, Echoes of Souls, reincarneted Souls, the everlasting Dragons coming back, the start of the first Eldenlord of the Dragons rise.
Placidusax is now ruling the world, but there is now also a corrupted version of the once life giving flame, now the flame wants to burn and dry anything away, The Frenzied Flames. Other Outergods from the Painted World/Bloodborne verse, are also interfering. Eldenring and Bloodborne, are co. existing.
Thats how I see the connection between the games, otherwise this theory, like all the others are somehow more Interpretation then facts.

I do not believe Elden Ring to be the beginning. Let us say for sure this theory was correct, but that will deny the concrete presentation that the first to exist after the COLD and DARKNESS is the first of kings Gwyn, the dragons, the Pygmy, and the Kiln of the First Flame. Emphasis on "first flame"
IF Elden Ring is connected, for sure it is not the beginning.
and do not forget that the endings in ER are by choice -- a split in paradox of time (alternate universe)
Dark Souls, while not entirely story connected, is a continuity of the curse of the gods for millennia wherein you are given a choice to usher a new era/age, and/or put an end to the gods that had long toyed the people and has fed them lies. This somehow denies connection of ER to DS franchise, depending on the choice made at the end of the game.

Appreciate the effort put into this, but the whole "interconnected universe" thing doesn't have any legs. It's based on imagery and ideas that FromSoftware have always used. If you look at this theory any deeper than the surface level, it makes no sense. It's like saying every Christopher Nolan movie shares the same universe because they are directed similarly. Like, duh, they're made by the same guy. Besides this, Miyazaki has stressed constantly that these games have never been intended to be connected narratively, they just like to repurpose and recycle different ideas, leading to a shared artistry, but not necessarily a shared narrative.

I would say my main issue is with the dark souls series being referred to as apart of the “prehistoric era” that the dragons used to rule when the prehistoric era of Elden ring is something more tangible with evidence like in Farum Azula with the beastmen.
