  • From the 2001 New England 300 TNT Prerace show
I normally don't watch prerace shows, much less convert and upload them, but I knew this segment was in this particular prerace show and thought it should be shared. A quick piece about Kyle Petty's first visit to New Hampshire Speedway since Adam's accident, followed by an interview with Kenny Irwin, Sr about his son.

Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin, Jr. were not only promising drivers, they would've been future champions. And watching Kyle Petty and Kenny Irwin, Sr. break down in tears was definitely emotional to watch.

Just like davey allison, dale earnhardt, alan kulicki, neil bonnett, and, j.d. mcduffie; adam petty and kenny irwin jr were two promising racers that were going to become excellent race car drivers but we'll never know.

The weekend Kenny Irwin Jr. passed away, his longtime rival (and my favorite driver) Tony Stewart won the race and donated the trophy to Kenny’s parents. Stewart and Irwin had raced each other a lot in USAC and while they were rivals on the track, they respected each other as competitors.

R.I.P Adam and Kenny, two awesome drivers who were taken far too soon!
Don't worry Mr. Kenny Irwin, Sr., your son will never be forgotten!
I know I sure enjoyed watching both of their careers, didn't enjoy watching either one of them go the way they both did.
Their loses have always been really sad, unforgettable and tragic!
If many of us can remember nearly every one of the now long-gone drivers from the 50's, 60's, 70's when there weren't 2 billion photographers and 90000 TV and cell phone cameras everywhere recording their every movement, such as we have nowadays, than of course we shall always remember guy's from the 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's and beyond who drove here in the "digital age" where every smile, frown and fart are usually found right here on RUclips!
Not only will both men never be forgotten, but thanks to the internet, even our grandchildren will know who these guy's were!

Even though things didn't work out at Robert Yates racing, Kenny Jr was eventually going to turn his cup series career around by either turning chip ganassi racing around or getting back into a top ride. Adam Petty was going to be a great driver probably not with Petty Enterprises but some other top team would have picked him up. He had his grandfather smile maybe his ability.

Kenny Sr. need not worry, because I will never forget Kenny. I followed him from when I was young and he was just ready to make his move up from USAC. He was my favorite USAC driver; I followed him to trucks where he became a winner. Then into Cup where he became the teammate of my favorite Cup driver. I hate that he didn't have more success at Yates. I still think about Kenny, and wish he could have matured into the racer at that level must of us knew he could be. Kenny will not be forgotten.

I was only 7 years old at the time and I remember my dad came in the room and told me Kenny Irwin had died. When he said this it killed me inside because he was one of my favorite drivers, especially being from Indiana. R.I.P. Kenny Irwin, you will never be forgotten.

Mr. Irwin, we fans haven't forgotten Kenny Jr. He was a special man who was on the cusp of big things. I always wondered how he would've done in 2001 after Ganassi bought the 40 and 42. You look at Sterling's results after that and you just can feel that Kenny would've been right there too. Time...doesn't heal all wounds...

Kenny wouldve been a star. He had so much potential, but was so raw, but I feel like around the time of his passing he was starting to hit his stride. 2001 wouldve been a breakout, no question in my mind. Its a damn shame that all we can do now is think of what couldve been.

I haven't forgot Kenny and the promise that he had as a driver. It was frustrating (still is) to watch him struggle in that #28. I just don't think Yates put him in the right situation to be successful. When he got to the 42, I would have loved to have seen what he could have done in a Dodge that next year.

The Petty family has given more to this sport than many fans realize- King Richard has lost close family members, friends - losing Adam was, words can't do it so no reason to try-
Mr Irwin didn't deserve this -
The Irwin family are salt of the Earth people -
    Kyle Petty is underappreciated
I believe - he was a solid driver and there isn't anything he can't do in the motor or the fab shops - he and his wife are also great people and the NASCAR family is the better because of them -
