#HairTutorial - Хобби
I was having some problems with rendering hair recently, and this video was just right on time! Thank you so much for this excellent video!!❤
I'm happy to hear that this video was right on time for you!! I hope you find it helpful to your process! :D
Yeah same ;_;
i love how transparent you are with your method/style, and even explain things that i never thought needed to be explained to me to understand better!
thanks so much for this video c:
I have been searching for this kind of video for hours, your way of explaining things are so much more clear and you talk very specific. Thank you.
Best tutorial I've seen on hair! Simplifying the hair shading as a donut shape is super helpful! Thanks for sharing the exercise files too! I'm inspired to practice!
Your paintbucket tool has an option to extend by "x" amount of pixels and having it set to 3 or 4 pixels makes the paintbucket fill actually go under your lineart and you don't need to use a separate lasso fill tool. Makes things a lot faster.
That's a great tip! I forgot to mention that I got my paint bucket's "Area scaling" set at 4px for the video; which is a lifesaver when doing parts other than hair filling (I always find some extra white space in the hair no matter how high I set it (...)) thank you for sharing with us!!
This is by far the best hair tutorial I've ever seen. It explained A LOTso thank you very much!
this is super cool!! i haven't thought about leaving the paper strip volume-adder hair parts for last! i've always just had it already formed from the lineart stage and always found mine to be sorta flat, thank you!!
I'm glad you find it helpful!! I have the same problem with linearts, that's why I usually overpaint everything and add layers later 🤣
thank you so much 😭🙏💕 i struggle with rendering hair and I've always admired your art and adopt some techniques that you use in it !!! thank you again so much for this video
thank you so much for watching too!! I hope you find it helpful! 💕
I learned along the way that I can pick a color that is close to my original color and do the textures instead of overblending the hair strand.
The tip of imagining the top of the head as a donut rather than a circle was so helpful!! Tysm!! 💕
Ahh thank you so so much for this tutorial on how you render hair! Even though I consider myself to be a amateur traditional artist, I am thinking of moving towards digital art! I am very much a beginner in digital art and this video helped me a lot with rendering hair since I do struggle quite a lot with the lighting and making things look cohesive in both digital and traditional art. I really admire your art style and hope to become as great as you one day! ❤❤
Lovely tutorial! I love how you explain every part of the process so clearly, thanks alot!
This has been eye opening! Thank you so much ❤
I didn't expect there will be a "Night/Dark Lighting Hair Rendering"...I have been wondering how to produce such colours and now this video answered that question. Thank you very much!
this is the most educational art video I've ever seen, ty!!!
This tutorial was extremely helpful and informative and I can't wait to try out the tips for myself as rendering hair has always been a bit of trouble for me. Thank you so much!
This was so helpful and I could finally understand how the lighting works
Thanks a lot for this! I have been looking for a tutorial in this style for like foreverrrr! I've always struggled with hair, which was the most awkward part of my art. I just applied what yous said in the tutorial (with my own little twists of course) and it looks 100x better!
Really helpful to me who always struggles with hair coloring, truly a fascinating guide as to 'how to make it more attractive' thanks
GIRL U SAVED MY LIFE ILYSM

Perfect work!!! OMG!! Love it❤️
THIS CAME IN CLUTCH, ILYSM(3333
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I'm trying to figure a new way of painting hair so I like to learn from different people and see what I like and don't like. I didn't know about that border effect tool so that excites me to draw some more!
Thank you for the tutorial! It's so well explained, especially with the example of the 3d model 😳
This tutorial was so helpful! Thank you!
this is such a helpful tutorial, thank you so much!
This is golden, thank you.
thank you so much for your kind sharing!!
aww thanks so much for watching too!! I hope you find it helpful! 💙
For anyone wondering the process here it is outlined below;
- Block in the base colour to match the average brightness of the background. A source light dictates how bright something appears.
- Apply a brighter lighting to the hair where the source light will hit.
- Be mindful of the contour of the hair - straight hair will be individual strands [flat] whilst bunched hair will be together in a 'block' that has it's own shape/shadows relative to the hair shape.
- Shade the hair with a darker colour to create depth.
- The highlight is indicative of the source light, natural highlights [doughnut shape] in the hair should be lower than the source light.
- Ambient light is bouncing light from the background. The light of the background informs the colour of the ambient light, and should only be applied to edges to imply colours leeching onto the model from the environment.
- The highlights in the hair is then blended into the base lighting.
- Deeper shadows are added to create depth for the hair.
- All hair is blended to create texture following the contours of the hair.
- Add stray hair strands.
- Glow lighting to create a bloom style affect for overblown lighting from a strong source light.
- When drawing stray hair, can add a bright stray hair where exposure is direct.
Thank you so much for this tutorial mint-tan I really really needed this!!
Thank you for this tutorial!
This really helped me a lot! I was struggling where to put the highlights or the shape of the highlights and shadows. The donut technique was very helpful to me! When I saw the video in my recommended page, I thought you had 100k+ subs. You’re insanely underrated! I wish you well on your art and RUclips Journey! ( :

I'm happy you found it insightful! the donut concept was shared to me by someone, and I'm glad to pass it around!
@@minttan tysm!!
This is an extremely useful breakdown :)

This so so helpful and informative. The way you break down the process along with the footage makes this really easy to understand even when I havent had much experience rendering hair in this this style at all! Ty :D

That's a solid tutorial mannnn ahhhhhh thank you :0 (also the bgm reminds me of kronii lmao)
Very informative
I've always struggled the most with hair, feeling that it never looks "real", always too flat and it brings the drawing down. I will try to stop trying to blend so much and see if that improves the quality~ Thank you for your tutorial!
nice tip thankyou
Can you make same tutorial about rendering cloth folds? This one was quite helpful
thank you so much
كان هذا رائع 😮😮💘
No damn way mint-tan randomly appeared on my YT feed 😭 Love your drawings on IG, been following for quite long already
Gambarmu bagus banget mbak😭😭
Makasih juga buat tutorialnya
Tysm i know now how do u do hair
Can you please do how to color white hair 🥺🙏 (I really love your coloring and drawing it's amazing 💖🥰)
THANK YOU XOXOXO
I'd never considered the doughnut for rim lighting, it's certainly a lot more effective than trying to think about where the light will bounce.
Also texture is so difficult.
Thank you so much!! I love the way you draw clothing wrinkles. Could you do a clothing wrinkle tutorial?
I hope you will make more videos like this, not every country has anime style classes. I will watch your video several times, then practice again with the .psd exercise file ☺.
thank you so much for appreciating!! we don't really have anime style classes (or barely even any art class at all lol) where I come from either, so I'll do what I can!
This tutorial is so hepfull!
thank you!! I'm glad that you think so!
Thank you for this tutorial can you do one on skin?
thank you so much..🥹🥹
thanks for watching! :D
I love you!~ ❤❤❤❤🌼🌼
pls do more tutorials
super
Very helpful thank you. What does setting the line layer as reference do? Is that any different from just selecting them and painting on the next layer?
Can you do one for your process of eyes and skin?
this was super helpful!
