    As much as I don't believe that the AVP films are in canon with the main Alien timeline, the idea of Charles and Peter being related is too tantalizing an idea to ignore. Though, I do not believe them to be father and son. I tend to fall more along the lines of them being uncle and nephew, since there's no clear sign that Charles was ever a father.
    My personal canon: Charles developed Weyland Industries to be a global force for hi-tech industry, though his illness made it clear that he couldn't see his ambition come to full fruition. As such, he left the company in perpetuity until his only nephew Peter came of age, having seen his vast intelligence and ambition.

      Timothy Brackin But it’s already canon that Peter was the founder of the Weyland company.

      While that is true, I take it with a grain of salt. Remember, that was espoused through the Weyland-Yutani Timeline, which can be doctored up to make Peter Weyland look as magnificent as possible.
      Besides, it's my personal canon, and it need not necessarily tie into the official canon perfectly.

    Easy. Charles Bishop Weyland as a globetrotter, met a British woman, they got married and she moved to Mubai and had Peter. He simply lived with his mother as the two were perhaps estranged due, to Charles being obsessed with his work.

    I definitely think that there's a connection. But I still believe that Charles made his memory back up that you see in the AVP 2010 game, a synth who's meant to pose as his ancestor and inheritor, Karl Bishop Waylend.
    Perheps he made him for the case that Peter would fail to bring progress to humanity?

    You don't have to like the AVP films, but I still think they should be considered canon, the second movie helps establish how humans achieved advanced space travel by the end of the 21st century as seen in Prometheus, Peter Weyland could have just expanded on the technology with his genius; there's too many connections in both universes to ignore the AVP films.

    They don't necessarily have to be father and son, Charles Bishop Weyland could be an uncle or a cousin of Peter Weyland for example. While i don't really consider "offshoot" franchises like AvP to necessarily be canon, i do like the idea of Charles and Peter Weyland having some form of family relation close enough that Peter would go out of his way to try and save Charles from his Cancer. It adds a bit of humanity to both characters while at the same time being sufficiently tragic for the Alien universe, given how Charles dies the same year that Peter completes the invention that would have saved him.

    If you integrate the Blade Runner theory, it opens the door to some unique possibilities:
    1. Weyland Co., Yutani and Tyrell as a triumvirate; each seeking to use their knowledge of the xenomorph to their own ends
    2. What if “Michael” Bishop was a Tyrell-type Replicant and neither a human or an Android?
    3. What if Roy Batty encountered the xenomorphs while in space?

      Battys final monologue in Blade Runner:
      -

    I consider any film or novel that has a xenomorph, of any evolution, in it to be canon. Some are bad and some are good, but that's all subjective anyway. It would be too coincidental in the world of Weyland-Yutani, for Charles and Peter to NOT be related in some way.

    • @finstrike7
      @finstrike7 6 лет назад

      That could be the case. Or... maybe Weyland Industries at the time was also secretly, behind-the-scenes (yet again), acquiring firms, organizations and/or companies that had access to even basic but very well understood and grounded cloning technology?
      Granted! It certainly sounds somewhat out there or far reaching, it is not however inconceivable that Sir Peter is in fact a young clone 'offspring' of Charles. To help maybe further the Company's legacy and ensure it's survival into the future and beyond. Maybe he had Peter as a son that he secretly raised himself, or he was a clone and was raised like a normal child but with not much 'normal' parentage around, ya?
      It could be that he is a clone of Charles, and based the Bishop androids on his progenitor. No? Maybe?
      I like to think: Possibly. And Probably...

    • @Fenris77
      @Fenris77 6 лет назад +5

      I agree AvP are definitely best canon as they do respect continuity the most, and Ridley Scott really mish mashed continuity with his movies basically retconning even the first Alien movie.

    • @Fenris77
      @Fenris77 6 лет назад +2

      +Revan
      I agree completely, Bishop may have kept his family life a secret along so much else in his life.
      I don't think Scott has any interest in as you said "coming around to Alien" considering the continuity mess he's made... And that is even IF any more movies will be allowed considering how Covenant tanked at the box office.

      Or it could have been a secret affair, or the mother was under aged, or the mother couldn't handle the media and paparazzi attention that Charles' position brought with it. There could be many explanations why he wouldn't have had family information made public, including that Peter Weyland might have been an orphan that he adopted and gave his last name, for example.

    I know it's an old video, but one key bit information for me is that Ronald Shusset - one of the 2 original authors (the other being Dan O'Bannon) for the screenplay that became Alien actually co-wrote the story for Alien Versus Predator.
    To me this means that the AvP films are technically more canon to the Alien franchise than Ridley Scott's prequels, as he was the director of the original film - not the screenwriter. (O'Bannon and Shusset had been influenced by Lovecraft's novels - where the alien life forms are truly unknowable - and Ridley Scott's prequels throw that completely out the window)

    My headcanon is that Weyland Industries had been investigating and covering up predator incidents for decades (likely funding the original paramilitary mission in south America) in attempts to steal and reverse engineer their tech (which explains the technological transformation of LA between the events of Predator 2 in 1997 and the events of Blade Runner in 2019). This is why Charles is so unfazed when he meets one in AVP. At the time of his death in that incident, in 2004, Peter would have been only 14, not yet old enough to inherit the company. The four years without him at the helm, and the resulting inevitable leadership fights and vacuums would have been a perfect time for others to file lawsuits regarding these incidents (and the following year's one in Colorado) and bring the company to the brink of potential ruin.
    Upon inheriting the company in 2008, on his 18th birthday, Peter would have been canny enough to have spent 4 years learning corporate law and loopholes and then immediately instigate a recovery plan. By 2012 he has managed to liquidate the original Weyland Industries and move the assets and IP over to a new legally distinct Weyland Industries founded by himself, and immune from all legal culpability of the old Weyland company. Hence why he appears to be later thought of as the 'founder' of Weyland Industries.
    The trauma of these 8 years would likely have soured his view of his own father, instilled a fear of death, infused a more clandestine culture into the corporation's hierarchy, and caused him to pivot away somewhat from reverse engineering alien tech, toward more focus on space exploration, searching out alien life to reverse-bio-engineer, and creating synthetics that can be trusted with such hidden corporate objectives on deep space missions.
    This all leads to the events of Prometheus, which, despite his attempts to not repeat his father's mistakes and instead, surpass him, still result in Peter's fate mirroring his father's own.
    This also gives motivation to David's experiments on the engineer homeworld. He didn't create the xenomorphs. He used the records of the engineer's creation of the xenomorphs to reverse engineer his own into existence, the plan being to eventually find a large enough group of dormant humans to continue the research work invisioned by his father, in manipulating xenomorph genetics for brand new purposes, thereby surpassing his father and grandfather. But in David's case, the goal is to turn the biotech back onto humanity and sentient humanoid life. Thereby not only surplanting his father and grandfather, but ALL of humanity and humanity's creators (engineers) and ancient gods (predators)
    The androids therefore end up being to the engineers, what the autons later become to humans.The creation of their own creations, that move beyond the bounds of their control and pose a risk to their survival.

    In my head I always figured Charles was Peters father because I accepted that the designer from Aliens 3 was human and therefore assumed some long lineage must exist.
    I took the identical look of the two characters (Charles and Bishop) and assumed it was a family look not meant to be identical but more so that the producers wanted a character associated with the franchise to return and as they couldn't bring in Ripley, a version of Bishop was the best they could wiggle in.

    There may be no direct genetic relationship between the two, but, upon hearing his diagnosis Bishop Weyland looked to securing the future of his company by appointing a young protege as his successor. Possibly rushing through a quick adoption, or maybe Peter took on the Weyland name at a later date to consolidate his ownership of the brand when he came of age. This explains why Bishop Weyland made no mention of a son or inheritor in AVP, he had no emotional attachment to Peter, it was just another business deal.

      @Nick That depends on what you mean by "accomplish", if you define it as motivating and funding something, sure, he's accomplished a lot, if you define it as you've actually build the thing (what ever it is) yourself, then not really, you don't think he actually designs and builds everything his companies make himself do you, there's a reason he hires engineers and technicians, he gets them to design and build the ideas he comes up with, and trust me, having the initial idea is the easy bit by far, it takes a LOT more than just thinking something up to bring it into being, for the split second that it takes for an idea to come into being, it often takes thousands of man-hours to figure out how to actually make it work.
      That's why it's wrong for people to put Musk up on a pedestal like they do, he is not Tony Stark, no one is, it would be like saying JFK was entirely responsible for man getting to the moon just because he issued that challenge, it does all the scientists and engineers who actually did the hard bit to make it happen a massive disservice.

    Has it ever been revealed when cloning was created in the Alien timeline?
    We know that it took a very long time to create Ripley 8 due to Alien: Resurrection, but was that due to cloning not being a thing, or purely because of the complex nature of what they wanted [not merely to clone her, or to create a hybrid, but specifically to clone her with a viable queen chestburster inside her.]
    I'd be surprised if Peter isn't just a clone of Charles [he wouldn't have his memories as that was a side effect of the alien dna, but they could be expecting him to be just as much of a genius as the original?]

    One thing that nonome seems to point out is that Charles Bishop was running Weyland INDUSTRIES, Peter Wayland founded The Weyland CORPORATION which would be a new entity.
    I feel like the Father-Son connection makes a bit more sense motivationally, than Uncle-Nephew.
    The synthetic trachea patent in the year of his death is too personal feeling (maybe he had been working on it to prolong his life so that he could make it through that 30 year span and he could take over when coming of age.
    Charles Bishop could have left his family in India to follow business with his dedication.
    But also I would like to point out that he possibly didn't have to. It just says Peter was born in India. Does it say he produced his patent there? It seems like he would have access to the resources if he had access to one of the main Weyland facilities in the UK or somewhere.
    It's possible one of the Bishops (ancestors of course) held up Weyland Industries until Peter takes over and creates the Weyland Corporation.
    It is also possible that after Charles Bishop's death and stocks temporarily dropped, it gave rise to the Tyrell Corporation that would rise in power (and rivalry) alongside Weyland Corp until its demise in 2019.

    Personally I adore the AVP 1, that also makes alot of sense, but you forgot to mention Bishop Weylands role, which was HUGE, in Alien 3. He was 1st there as a robot, "Bishop", but at the end he showed up to try and talk Ripley out of suicide, and at that point, he seemed human, real, and that the robot would be fashioned along his lines made sense. Yes, Charles Bishop Weyland was the head of the company for Aliens 3, 4 and at certainly AVP, which to my mind is an underappreciated film no doubt. I believe AVP was the prequel to as to why the Weyalnd Yurabi Corporation became obsessed with the Xenomorph. They collected data from the expedition and were fascinated with what was said about the Xenomorph. The existence of the Yautja has been around for almost 20 years in the movie timeline, but they have been hunting us since times in the B.C. according to what they found in the pyramid. All in all I believe AVP is a critical role in the timelines.

I don't see any reason why the "Engineers" would have just stopped there 2,000 years ago. I'm sure they continued work on them beyond just that one ship.
