Trent: "You're not going to do professional-caliber art with a mouse".
Me adding another client's work on a 10y pile with a $5 mouse xD.
That was my biggest issue with the Cintiq 16 so many cables and had to buy an adapter so I can plug it in to my big rig (display port to hdmi) , this is awesome to use on my MacBook . Great review Trent
EXCITED for return of the ancients!!
Thank you! Should be within the next month or so. Just waiting on final edits.
@@TrentKaniuga cool
For the record, I have an IPad 12.9 (2021) and it has a 512gb ssd/ 16gb memory setup. For $1400 via Verizon, I pay about $80 per month. I spent $89 for an Anker 11 in 1 USB C Hub and another $140 for a 1tb Adata external ssd. The iPad with the M1 has substantial horsepower for art. And if you are trying to buy new, getting an iPad via your phone service of choice is a very good investment into that if you want to compare it to this or any drawing tablet that needs a computer.
That said, if you don’t intend to replace your computer, then a drawing tablet is dope! I also own the XP-Pen Innovator 16 and draw with Clip Studio. I’m new to both it and Procreate, but I’m quite happy with both items. But don’t get it confused, the M1 IPad Pro has plenty of power for artists, and can do video editing by all accounts.
Ipad is great for portability. When working professionally you may find out that you need ever-more-powerful PC to keep up with the tasks and with a good-quality tablet you can just keep using it without worriying. When I started out I thought that a laptop is powerful enough for my art, at my current job I have to use a beast of a PC and sometimes it's not enough when the PSD file reaches 20 gigs for one illustration. At this moment I feel glad for choosing to buy a graphic tablet display instead of an IPad.
Edit: I've been using xp-pen 15.6 pro for 2.5 years now. Works great, but the rubber on the pen has become a bit saggy.
@@screwdriver1337 20 gig drawings are clearly professional scale. That said, most hobbyist and semi pro won't make anything so dense on purpose, but the iPad can handle it, I think.
But the ipad doesn't run Maya, zbrush, TVPaint etc. Now if apple relented and made it able to run macos then yould have something.
Bought this tablet a month ago, have not really had any issues! They did a great job!
How is it now? How’s the touch? Is it smooth like the iPad?
And a year later you still think the same?
Hey Trent I've been kinda struggling with posing lately. Like I've been looking at a bunch of videos on how to pose characters (for comics) and it's just not coming together. I'm struggling with the chest. I think the problem is I'm trying to pull it from my head and get comfortable with it because when using reference it's easier (obviously). But for comics I feel like spending time looking for reference waste soooo much time. Any tips? Or should I not stress as much? Or should I just frame characters in a way to hide my dirty laundry like the guy who hide feet?
XP-Pen is a great company, I picked up the Artist 15.6 Pro a year ago....very nice tablet and I love it, only complaint is what you mention 3 cables to plug in....but minimal complaint tho..thanks for the review and sharing your thoughts.
Nice review ! What Im really curious is about the new pen Xp pen says it has new tech ,new chip, inside or something .. would be interesting to know your opinion about this new pen comparing to the old version ( like in the 24 1440p model) and comparing to the new one and even to your wacom tablet pen .. I have a huion 22 plus ,.its nice but I can‘t get used to their pen .. its good but I miss the wacom pen ,.. specifically. The activation force .. (and tweaking in the pressure curve settings didn’t help) ..
Nice!! I'm using an xp right now. I'm waiting to get one of the older screen xp pen tablets. But I also draw on a Surface Pro 4.
Is the 4k display really necessary on a 16" display?
Does it work with Linux?
Mostly overkill, but for specific use cases like digital manga and comic inking 4K is the way to go and a 22 inch 4K would be even better,
well, should be good for the next 10 years I guess :)
Do you think you could do a small 5 min vid on Emily's computer set up? Is the tablet her primary monitor with that set up?
I have a big hand and it fits well, no sweat
I've been struggling these days to know which tablet to buy. I really wanted to buy the Wacom Cintiq 16 Pro, but it's from 2016 and looks like is discontinued. I thought they would release a new model pretty soon. But I'm getting tired of waiting. So, for the 16' , which one do you think it's the winner so far? XP Pen Pro 16 / Wacom 16? is it worth maybe to wait a bit more?
Go with the XP pen, it's newer, cheaper, and performs well. I'm loving it since I got it. To my personal use, having touch features and gestures is essential; so now I'm feeling happy for not having had to spend thousands of dollars to get touch functionality. The XPpen performs wonderfully, and am sure I'll be getting a bigger screen if they release something like this in 22 or 24 inches. If you're still deciding all I have to say is no one will deny the greatness of Wacom devices, however now we have very competitive and affordable options.
Always go with the newest device dude
What would you recommend that is not priced to high for a starter drawing pad? That is hopefully not more than $300
I just bought your level 1-20 drawing tutorial
To get started, if you can get the xppen artist16 (not the hi rez pro edition here), then that's a good one.
@@TrentKaniuga thank you sir, for the inspiration and information on quality drawing pads
Awesome
1:25 no I'm paying for colors. cuz my huion tablet with low parallax and 8000 pen sensitivity doesn't have blue color, color scheme all either green-ish or purple-ish, no matter how you calibrate it. so colors of image are always far from reality
hi, does the touchscreen work well with the macbook? i've read that it is not good with mac/all the touchscreen features do not work with mac...?
Wait so does this model have a different pen from the other artist pro16 tablet? Is this the X3 smart chip pen as well? If not is this pen better or worse?
looks like a fine plablet to me
If you need to plug this in to your computer and use the keyboard, how do you sit on the couch and use it?
I want this but with a 24 inch screen
Which one is better For professional work Artist Pro 16TP or Innovator 16??
What brush was that?
1:40 I live there. Its called Japan!
3:11 Anyone else notice that line jump? What a strange lag.
I think it has to do with his pc and not the pen its self
they should provide a stand for this, Huion's counterpart has
Hoaxed box opening??! Trent or GW A.I.?
salut ! j'ai perdu le stylet de ma tablette xp pen artist pro 16 TP . ou pourrai je en trouver un ? merci
Did you check under the couch seats? I’m not sure. Check everywhere that you went that day and try to retrace your steps.
What do you want us to do ? You are the one who lost it frenchy
lol the thumbnail
Ahh i only have a 70dollar huion tablet. This one looks dope and i would love a tablet with a screen :D without screens i just screw up to many lines. Hopefully i can afford this in a few years :S
Now for the 22inch and I'm in.
Hey Trent, sorry this isn't about the tablet but: would you talk about separation of self and work? Like, if you put a ton of yourself into a brand like Blizzard and YOUR work made it what it is today, how do you disentangle your ego or leave that?
Guys like Jobs, Bezos, Disney, put their names on what they made. But some of us do it in the shadows and shamefully, it stings a little when lots of people have no clue how much influence we had or how much sweat it took.
Is that the lesson: leave and invest in yourself instead of a company and put your own name on your own damn thing?
Not from Trent, but Adam duff does wonderful talking videos, and he has a video sharing his experience with exactly what you’re looking for of you haven’t seen it, ruclips.net/video/Ldw7BKgk09Y/видео.html
How can I get that water color brush?
👍🏻👍🏻
I think I'm a bit late to the comments but the part about being able to use this as a tablet off to the side as well I think is super interesting! Is this the only screen tablet you can do this on? It seems like the best of both worlds?
mine was broken in the box. super sad. they are sending a new one.
Damn! Feeling your pain, hang in there though. I bet you must be looking forward to playing with your new display, but in the end your wait is going to be highly rewarding. Cheers and good luck with the new shipment.
Edit: typo.
Now for the 22 inch
trent i have purchased some of your gum roads. lessons 1-most recent easy art lessons. i'm looking forward to getting better.
Personal hydration
latency seems to be too long. I'm not a big fan of pen displays, but Ipad pro looks like a much more convenient device.
TP= Touch Pad would be the logical answer.
finger thong... almost cost me a keyboard lol thank you for that!
I don't know, man. Looks super laggy to me. I guess you'll get used to it after a while.
He is using Photoshop, and from my experience drawing on that app, it is somewhat laggy unless you have an excellent computer with great specs.
👍✨✌️💫
TP???? Touch Panel?
seems small for an 16"
I have sasquatch hands.
I would get XP PEN instead of my current Cintiq 16 if the pre-order service wasn't that bad
that was another model back in 2019, they advertised heavily and ended up they received way more pre-order than the stocks they had.
all the pre-order would be processed at the same time once the stocks arrived
when it came to my order, it was out-of-stock and I was told to wait for freaking 3 months before another batch of devices arrive
by that, it means it also doesn't guarantee I can receive my tablet from this new batch
With anger and disappointment, I decided to cancel and refund and never care about XP PEN ever again
If you have to charge the Pen like Apple then it doesnt have much value for me
No pen charging
🙄
Well I think it's a bad idea to print out art on the boxes, it wastes paint and not good for the environment. Just an opinion.
still / just too expensive
