Really good review. I liked how you put the device into the context of how you draw yourself. straight lines are really important and still the acid test of a good tablet. You've been doing this long enough that your opinion really counts, thanks Brad.
What a thorough review. Other sites exalted the new X-3 tech without mentioning the wobbly lines. While low activation force is a good thing, it's crippled with wobbly lines. I purchased a Huion Kamvas 16 (2021) and was surprised by the straight lines and very good low activation force. The activation force is low enough that I can get the finest lines in my digital pencil drawings. Another thing is the Huion felt nibs which provide excellent friction for pencil and inking. I still prefer the smooth nibs for painting.

Nice review! Thanks for this. For the lines that are wavy/inconsistent, I am of the opinion that pressure/tilt sensitivity and line consistency are inversely proportional to each other. The more sensitive a pen is, whether pressure or tilt, the more it picks up very minute fluctuations to the pressure and tilt of the hand. Even if one does use a ruler, there will be inconsistencies to the line in terms of direction (caused by tilt) and width (caused by both pressure and tilt). We really cannot blame the user for this because if you pick up a pencil/brush in real life, there is a certain resistance to paper/canvas from these tools that contribute to consistency of a line/stroke. Similarly, it takes a lot of getting used to digital workstations except this time, without that resistance in the picture (which makes it more difficult to learn, to be honest). I'm not sure if any of the graphic tablet manufacturers implement an algorithm for sensitivity-to-output translation that mimics real-life hand pressure, because it's definitely NOT linear, and artists have different preferences. That algorithm should look more like a curve or a plateau. Or, better yet, make it configurable by the artist if they want to.
My review of Brad's review is this: it is incredible how much work Brad puts into reviewing these products and even goes as far as to spend money on not one but two more tablets whereas he could simply ask the manufacturers for those to test them out as well but no, he just went and paid for them. Obviously he didn't just spend money just so he would have a video for us, he genuinely wanted to know, be informed about those fresh products so that he also would be on the in, have sound knowledge. Still, what I've come to as a conclusion is Brad is a good reviewer and by good I mean a very sincere and dedicated level good. P.S.: Is it only me but does anyone else also wonder what he does with all those tablets? Dang it I already bought one b4 u reviewed it because it was on sale; I noticed a little wave too but I usually just amp the smoothing up to the max when making final lines anyways so it works well for me!
I noticed you connected all the cables to a usb hub with a single connection to your laptop/desktop? Have you tried connecting the xp-pen cables directly to your devices without using a hub. I’ve found in the past that using a hub creates a lag that can potentially be the cause of the wave lines.
Brad may have reviewed a lot of products but can we talk about how he's like literally the best reviewer? I love how professional he is and he has a pleasant voice I love his sense of humour. Brad would be the reason why I would wanna buy all these just to try them 😂 love your reviews Brad and I'm looking forward to more reviews :)
This is so weird. The 16" variations are the only XP-Pen tablets that seem to have major issues. It's really shortsighted to release with known issues. They're trying to position themselves as a cheap but viable alternative. Any table which negates that second goal does major damage to a company still trying to establish their brand.
I'm going to wait for a software update, since the tech seems totally capable (as seen in the newer Artist 12 2nd gen) but the driver software is having trouble adjusting to the new pen chip tech.
Oh well, looks like I'll have to wait for them to fix the current issues with a new update b4 I can move on from my 15.6 xp-pen pro to the new pen tablets. Thanks so much for the review Brad!
I noticed that you have the same problem with straight line on the test of the wacom cintiq pro 27 but you only mentioned it here. So is this really a problem that come from the tablet? am not sure anymore
i got this tablet last week and im using it rn, and i dont have that problem, my lines come out extremely well and i did not have stabilisation on, i amusing clip studio paint EDIT : update 💀💀💀💀💀💀 my tablet screen is starting to glitch out and I'm getting jittery lines😐
This is just a theory but... I want to put it out there. If you ever open a drawing tablet like this, the board inside basically has traces that cross over each other, vertical on one side of the board and horizontal on the other. This is apparently how it tracks the position of the pen; the traces seem to basically be a matrix of antenna coils. But onto the theory- I'm wondering if the density of the traces/how close the 'windings' are has any impact on the line being wavy.
I'm really in a bind. My old Intuos Pro has no display but I used it for years, until the plastic cone on the stylus cracked and broke, which holds the internals in and one of the internal springs is missing. Despite these parts being worth less than $0.05, Wacom refuses to help me do anything other than purchase a new stylus. Appalled, I want to find a different brand, but they're all notorious for bad customer service and shoddy performance. Artists basically don't have options in this market.
Thank you for the review, Brad! May I kindly request a review of the new xppen artist series 2nd gen? The ones with the colours! I've been thinking of getting it since the pink one is so pretty and it's small so maybe it would be portable for college 🙏🏻❤
The one setting that these Wacom competitors lack, literally one simple setting "Click and Tap" for the stylus, instantly make them a pass for me, regardless of how close they come or even exceed Wacom in certain areas. I feel like I'm the only one that uses the stylus like this, I find the default "Hover Click" so uncomfortable to use, as I work in 3d and constantly have to make use of the Middle and Right mouse clicks (mapped to the stylus buttons).
Hey brad I recently got this tablet and i have no computer wake at all (I have a high end gaming laptop idk if that helps) but like I did lines like you did no stabilization, tried all my pens and I barely got any wobble
Do you still use this and how has it held up? I’m interested in getting one but I’m concerned about some reviews online saying it stops working right after the warranty period a year later. What has your experience been?
@@OneDayKD I still have mine and it is past warranty, though they have a updated graphic tablet same size but a little cheaper (it’s because it’s like 94srgb that I would look into because the only issue I have it that because all the devices are under that ammount it’s always more vibrant. Just more of a pain to colour correct. But I really haven’t had any issues. I never noticeda line wobble I just personally find it too big and thin for how I draw. I would into the 2nd Gen devices and compare but for casual work it gets the job done. Though I can see where ppl may have broke there’s because it’s thin, though if you haven’t gotten a tablet or if you aren’t that far I do recommend just a standard pen tablet like the deco. But if you do end up getting it MAKE AN ACCOUNT, I was an idiot and deleted my order email and did it under a guess so if I did ruin my tablet I wouldn’t get any help. Like seriously keep the boxes write down the order number and everything just in case.
I thought this was a great review! Comfortable yet digging in where necessary. Personally I think that over producing something can take away from the subtleties of the information… Just my thoughts
It's odd to me that they did almost the opposite of what I wanted them to do. The pen is worse, the screen is smaller, and the aspect ratio is still the 16:9 "Widescreen TV Watching" shape. I moved to Android so i don't have much reason to care, but I started with XP-Pen so I want them to do better
A bit of feedback that may be a personal preference, but: usually when reviewers show wiggle on a line that's all freehand, I tend to dismiss it. I have no way to gauge how much of that is just the reviewer not being able to draw straight lines or having shaking hands. I *only* trust the ruler test. I think it was the last XP-pen video where you didn't show a ruler test at all and I did miss it. I think it's the most important part of the line waves test. And I'm not saying that you can't draw straight lines! It's just that I as a viewer can't really tell if the test is really objective without the ruler.
You are 100 % correct, just pay attention to the top part (eraser) of the stylus... A lot of the wobble is result of Brad's hand micro-movements, even when he does the "ruler test". Brad does not have the most stable hand, luckily he is not a brain surgeon 😜🤣

Good review, I do not have a preference vlog or otherwise tbh. I did want to say on your choice of using wood for the sword you drew, a lot of different cultures use various types of wooden swords to banish evil spirits and undead creatures in their folklore, so wood was a good choice!

The new format came as a surprise at the beginning, but it quickly grew on me. I think a hybrid approach would be ideal: the writing and spontaneity of the vlog format + the well composed A-Roll of the regular scripted video. On an unrelated note, I would like to suggest adding a "Date of Review" info to your best tablets list. Since it's an ever-expanding list, with new entries mixed with the old, I think knowing when this product was reviewed (or more precisely, when that opinion was formed) would benefit the user experience. Even though people could just click the video and see the upload date, it would be nice for that information to be more apparent, especially for buyers who aren't knee-deep in the variety of drawing tablets that are released every year.
Omg why do they sell them if they have that much wiggle. Any uppdaterad on this have they fixed them now or are the ones they're selling today like this also?

So back to XP-Pen Artist Pro 16 - Im getting zero ugly lines - no ticks - no bad tails (In XARA PRO) so if that's your go-to - Gets my recommendation - Bargain too.
Keep up the great channel - wouldn't miss one
Xara is still around?? I see you copied a bit from Wikipedia.
Have you tried their newest driver released on Oct 29? If so can you please either verify the wobble is fixed or perhaps do an updated review?
I got one of these not for 2D; but for 3D; sculpting and texture painting specifically (but i do some 2d too) and for this purpose I absolutely love this particular device.
Can you tell me if you still experience any wobble in 2d
@@aceofspades5638 if i were to do the ruler thing? Yes. In normal everyday use? No, at least not to where i notice it. I do really heavily focus on 3D sculpting and texturing tho, i maybe do an hour or so of 2D work a week
@@mastafoo886 would u say that's a deal breaker also does it have tilt support
@@aceofspades5638 i use the thing for hours a day every day and have not one single time thought "man i wish i spent the money on a cintiq"
Yes, it has tilt support and said tilt support works fine. No rotation support but only a handful of displays total have that and rotations uses are pretty limited anyway.
I personally love mine. Using a creative mounting strategy ive got it mounted on an Ergotron arm (8x 16lb strips of Dual Lock onto a VESA compatible keyboard tray).
Ive got it paired up (peripheral wise) with a wireless Space Mouse Pro and a Logitech G13 keypad. I dont really use the touch dial but the spinner and the rest of the buttons get used and feel good to use. I really aught to do a full review video on this (would be my first ever!) from the standpoint of someone who has had it be their daily driver since launch.
@@mastafoo886 how about when doing line work, how well do u think it preforms also is there a way to get around the wobbling
I don't get it. why does your pen is doing that wave when drawing lines. I saw other reviewers and they didn't have the same problem your having with the pen.
Yeah i am confused too
@@Someone-ro9gd Same it's good for everyone else they get nice crisp lines with low activation force
@@phantomflame0658 yeah teoh reviewed artist 12 2nd gen and the pen is working fine
@@Someone-ro9gd He also covered this tablet and it looked perfectly fine. I think Michael Clarida Arts has the best "real world" review of this in action. I'm debating getting this or the Huion Kamvas 16 as my first drawing tablet since my budget is around 400 euro. I might save up extra and get the 22 though
@@phantomflame0658 yeah Michael Cladia's review was detailed and very helpful.
I will suggest you to choose devices on the basis of pc you will use is it mac or windows. I think xp pen works good with both windows and mac.
Do research and watch reviews of people who have used it for more than 2 month.
Dang it I already bought one b4 u reviewed it because it was on sale; I noticed a little wave too but I usually just amp the smoothing up to the max when making final lines anyways so it works well for me!
I also concur with this note. Stabilization fixes wobble.
Oh thank you for showing my Artwork 🤩
This is so weird. The 16" variations are the only XP-Pen tablets that seem to have major issues. It's really shortsighted to release with known issues. They're trying to position themselves as a cheap but viable alternative. Any table which negates that second goal does major damage to a company still trying to establish their brand.
Anyone know if they've fixed the line issue on this series since this review?
Yes! been waiting for this thanks. :)
I'm going to wait for a software update, since the tech seems totally capable (as seen in the newer Artist 12 2nd gen) but the driver software is having trouble adjusting to the new pen chip tech.
I think the issue is with hardware level for the wobbly lines. No software or firmware update will fix it.
@@mufeedco Maybe.
So is this really a problem that come from the tablet? am not sure anymore
i got this tablet last week and im using it rn, and i dont have that problem, my lines come out extremely well and i did not have stabilisation on, i amusing clip studio paint
EDIT : update 💀💀💀💀💀💀 my tablet screen is starting to glitch out and I'm getting jittery lines😐
I love this new format!!
Idk might have been a preproduction thing. I bought one cause I saw lavandertown’s review and I tried to get wobble and I don’t get any.
That's why I go with huion. This jitter on the digitizer is on many other pen displays too.
I'm considering getting this, now that its been over a year has the lines issue been fixed?
Thank you Brad, just purchased Artist Pro 16 today, not try yet. Your video helps alot.
Im planing to get it
But how do u like it? Did they fix the pen problem
Thank you for the review, Brad! May I kindly request a review of the new xppen artist series 2nd gen? The ones with the colours! I've been thinking of getting it since the pink one is so pretty and it's small so maybe it would be portable for college 🙏🏻❤
it’d be amazing if you could review the artist 12 2nd gen by xppen!!🎊🎉🙏
at 2:42, what is that long piece he pulls out and connects to the computer?
The one setting that these Wacom competitors lack, literally one simple setting "Click and Tap" for the stylus, instantly make them a pass for me, regardless of how close they come or even exceed Wacom in certain areas. I feel like I'm the only one that uses the stylus like this, I find the default "Hover Click" so uncomfortable to use, as I work in 3d and constantly have to make use of the Middle and Right mouse clicks (mapped to the stylus buttons).
Dude this video was great honestly it's seemed more like an in-person conversation which was nice so ty
@@OneDayKD but honestly older tablets work as good, and like pen tablets (no graphics) can never fail you and honestly better for posture and back
@@aceinspacepng7495 Thank you!
Is there still a problem with the lines or has it been resolved?
I thought this was a great review! Comfortable yet digging in where necessary. Personally I think that over producing something can take away from the subtleties of the information… Just my thoughts
Any style is good style as long as it has a Brad in it!
I like the informative videos. I honestly don't have a preference of how you do it. Great work. Thanks.
It's odd to me that they did almost the opposite of what I wanted them to do. The pen is worse, the screen is smaller, and the aspect ratio is still the 16:9 "Widescreen TV Watching" shape. I moved to Android so i don't have much reason to care, but I started with XP-Pen so I want them to do better
what xppen model do you use?
Brad does not have the most stable hand, luckily he is not a brain surgeon 😜🤣
the style was really cool in my opinion but why don't you add a question part where you can answer few (3-4) question from the comments
Which one is better the xp pen innovator or pro 16?
I liked the vlog style.
Hey Brad, yes the Brad with the feet ^^ I prefer the blog style, BUT we really need to see footage > < of you making and drinking coffee. Everybudy knows that what defines blog vlogs is seeing coffee being consumed. It puts us at ease to know that you’re a fellow coffee drinker.
I still have the first gen iPad Pro and first gen Apple pencil and the amount of mechanical wiggle you talk about is kinda a downer. I just learned to live with it but not sure if that wiggle is just a thing that happens with tablets?
tablets these days shouldnt or they are not good
yes! you are not alone!
Do the artist 12 2nd gen please!😭
I feel like the vlog style feels more real while your other style feels a lot more to the point on the products pros and cons
Thank you, Brad, for your review
Multiple tablets go wobbly, Brad draws a veiny wooden sword with two curvy twigs wrapping around each other at the hilt for banished clubbing. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Good review, I do not have a preference vlog or otherwise tbh. I did want to say on your choice of using wood for the sword you drew, a lot of different cultures use various types of wooden swords to banish evil spirits and undead creatures in their folklore, so wood was a good choice!
you have an audio line duplication at 2:55ish
Funny that I have this waves problem on my ipad LOL
Thank you for the video, bro
Have they fixed the wobbling?
Nope, I bought one this month and there were a lot of wobbles. So I sent it back and replaced it with a deco pro medium, and got the rest of the money refunded.
@@urmomsareola Thanks for confirming. I cancel my shopping basket. Never have had a drawing display and for sure this will not be my first one in that case.
@@roger7641 you're very welcome. it was a bad experience for me, and it was actually my first ever tablet as well... but at least, the customer support was good. Also, they did say that it was only one in a hundred, but I decided to not take the risk.
I didn't get the full refund I wanted though. I was at first going to get a full refund and get a wacom cintiq 16... but I couldn't get a full refund. That was why I opted to replace it with a deco pro and get the rest refunded instead.
I am still thinking to buy the wacom cintiq 16... but I think I'll learn the ropes with the deco pro first, since I don't want it to go to waste.
Hey Brad, did you experience the problem where the right click on the canvas (Krita) doesnt show the pop up palette? I had the same exact model (Pro 16).
Are the wobbling lines worse than on the x pen artist 16 pro? In this review you said you had wobbling lines too.
Hi Brad! I am now looking through your videos, trying to find the best notebook, that has a pen for drawing etc. I need a new one for school, but every time I look at your video, you say something along the lines "For art, not best" So I wanted to ask you, what would you recommend to me?
Definately like the change it style of the reviews.
New style video works for me! No complaints, just don't forget to inject your usual humor into it.
What is the dongle you used? At 2:41
Such a shame, i loved the new pen desing, the buttons and dials, and the fact that the pen has an ereaser, i really hope its a problem of early models
Decided to get one of these or the regular version. How much does the display itself weigh? Can't find the weight of both anywhere. Since I want take it with me to locations it would be great to know how light or heavy they are.
Hello, have you already done a review of Huion Kamvas 22/22 plus?
I wonder how this is compare with Wacom cintiq 16. I’m planning to get pen display in 2022.
glad i didnt bought this one , i instead got the artist 12 2nd gen , the pen is great , no wobbles , and my lines goes exactly where I want it to be
Hey! I was thinking of getting this one. Could you please tell me what you think of it and especially the screen size and setup? I have an HP pavilion 15 laptop with a normal usb-c insert. Can I connect it just via usb-c? or do I have to use this hefty 3 in 1 cable shown in the video? Thanks in advance!
@@shadydragon22 would love to know about this too
@@shadydragon22 hello , I've used the tablet for 4 months now , and its working perfectly well - the screen size isn't a big hurdle for me but if you're used to drawing with your arm its not a tablet for you , idk if the tablet will work if you just replace it with a usb-c connection but their website and employee advertised to me their add-on usb-c cable so you dont have to use the 3-in-1 cable
if youre planning on buying this table tho b e prepared for the screen to scratch , im heavy handed so i guess that played a major role to it but the middle part of my screen is heavily scratched that the colors on that part dont match the parts of the screen that aren't scratched.
@@snoot6629 I had same problem with scratching with my Innovator 16. And i found, you can by a new "screen protector" from them, if you want. So you can change it for a new one, time to time.
@@vojtanethio shame , looks like I gotta buy a new screen protector every 3 months or so , the screen when scratched up is so blurry it's impossible to work with colors lol Ill just use the pen display as a pentablet ig
This is personal, but I would like more emphasis on Initial Activation force tests. Great review. Thanks!
I liked this new video format, make it closer with us viewers
How does it work in a 3d program like blender? Thinking about getting a display tablet for sculpting and texture painting in blender.
Both are fine, maybe the blog version is better? Do both?
hey brad,Have you pre-purchased the surface pro 8? really looking forward the review, they update the stylus called slim pen 2 from pro x series
Omg why do they sell them if they have that much wiggle. Any uppdaterad on this have they fixed them now or are the ones they're selling today like this also?
Good day Brad, I know you are a busy person, anyway you can respond to this if you have some spare time, I'm a beginner in this area and I just want to ask a question comparing the 1st gen and 2nd gen? Is there a big difference between the two, in an amature perspective? thank you....
