    Another amazing review. Thank you, Teoh! Question: is this pen sensitivity and color accuracy good enough for you to recommend this over bigger displays? I am considering between Huion 24 Plus and this XP-Pen 16 Pro. I know the prices are wildly different, but the Huion is obviously way bigger and seems to have a lot of little quality improvements like etched glass, optional felt nibs, a stand, and what seems to be a good pen… I guess what I’m asking is, which display would you personally use for your own art (out of these two or any)?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  2 года назад +25

      If you want to get a pen display that can also be used as main monitor, it's better to get a larger one, so Huion.
      Main selling point of the Huion is the 1440P resolution which is way better for productivity. The other things like etched glass, felt nibs, stand are nice to have but doesn't really impact work.
      Main selling point of the XP-Pen here is it's really thin and don't take up a lot of space.
      Huion always has slightly better drawing performance over XP-Pen until this current model. So now XP-PEN which this model has drawing performance on par with Huion.
      I use my iPad Pro and Samsung tablet to draw actually. While I review many pen displays, I don't keep them because, unfortunately, I just don't have enough table space.
      If you have the budget, go with the Huion 24 Plus for the 1440P resolution.

    Very happy that the performance is much better with the pens. Now if I can only get a new 24 with all the buttons and red clicky dials, 4K, and the x3 pen. I'm like the only pro artist that needs them (being left handed and left hand dominant for typing makes using Zbrush a huge pain without them). Not crazy about the silver either, but cosmetics are less important to me than a great pen and long term reliability (and accurate color, of course).

Reason is, I got the Huion Kamvas Pro 16 4k, and it flickers out/glitches/darkens after long hours of use,and I just got it a little over a month ago. Reported it, ran tests to no avail, and now it's dead and support hasn't even got back to me after days, it's attrocious. So much for 12 month warranty.
    I'm looking at this as a replacement (because the 16TP has a bad pen).. I'm just worried if these thinner form factor tablets just can't handle long use, and I'd have to go back to ones with a stand.
    Even though their product sans glitches are great, I'm now hesitant to go back to Huion products because of this terrible support experience. @@mirsyadhikmatullah119 I would like to answer your question, as I have both ipad 2019 and an older huion kamvas 16 pro and I'm a designer myself. Based on the software that I'm currently using to produce the work for the client, the device I use changes. If I'm producing an illustration (using Illustrator or affinity designer or procreate), I mostly use my ipad. I can just design/draw on an ipad and then import the file to my windows desktop PC or my macbook for final tweaking and delivery to the client.
      Things changes for me when my work require using 3D workflows and animation. When creating 3D models using zBrush or using Blender or 2D animation using After effects or TvPaint, I use my huion. Trying to do 3D or animation on an iPad can be frustrating at times due to lack of apps and features needed to produce work for client. Although it's not impossible to produce 3D work on an ipad, I only ever use it reluctantly if I really have to when my huion is not near me. In short, it's much better experience when using my huion for 3D and animation workflow as I find it more efficient and smooth overall experience. It is really frustrating when not being able to do certain things due to the limitation of the app on the ipad.
      So, it depends on what you plan to do. If you're mostly involved in vector art/illustrations and graphic design, manga/comics, etc., ipad is great for what it offers. But if you plan to indulge into 3D workflow or animation, ipad can still be helpful as a beginner (albeit with frustrations), but not at a professional level (depending on your client needs and project), where efficiency matters.

    You might want to check Adam Duff's complain on it. It IS a tablet, or at least designed like one, a pen tablet if you want to argue but a tablet nonetheless. Not having a stand built-in nor included means that's the treatment it is getting, plus the power cable is a mess and also quite short on top of it. It is not people's fault if they confuse it with an actual tablet and not a display.
    It is nice you recommend a stand and perhaps could recommend another cable or extension, but that's not included in the product you're reviewing, so it is really a flaw, should've reviewed it without your stand for XP-Pen to get the message. It's not even hard to fix but might ruin someone's experience if they order one to then realise they need to buy extras to get what should be a base experience out of it.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  2 года назад +11

      It's a monitor because it has to be connected to a computer.
      And such pen displays are only going to get thinner in the future.
      It's not people's fault they don't know whether it's a tablet or not. And that is precisely why in my reviews I will specifically mention this is a monitor and not a tablet.
      People looking at such products thinking that it's a tablet are setting themselves up for disappointment because this is not portable, and no one will use this on the sofa, or even hold one in hand to use it.
      I've already told XP-Pen about their no-stand situation, and told them to make it clear on their order page that there's no stand, and at least put an option for people to buy a stand on the order page.

    • @gerardopadilla2666
      @gerardopadilla2666 2 года назад

      @@teohyc I'm not saying you're wrong there, I'm complaining that XP-Pen is treating it like a tablet themselves. As I said you did recommend a stand, but said like that could make some people go like "meh" to then realise they really should've got one. As you said it doesn't really bothered you since you had one but precisely it may fall short to illustrate the issue for some, IMO at least, and that it is something that should be offered at least entry level in the product by default, even if they add a stand to buy it'd fall short to address the issue.
