Review: XP-Pen Innovator 16 Pen Display is SOOOooo thin
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 июл 2024
- This is the thinnest pen display from XP-Pen at just 9mm. The pen supports tilt and 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity. sRGB support is 100% (measured). Drawing performance is fantastic, as shown in the video.

The thing about the tilt not working near edges applies to all xp-pen devices with screen. I've already been discussing this with them for a while it seems that's how it's supposed to work so if anyone wondering it's probably not going to get fixed.
Btw you can switch the tilt for Krita to make the brush start under the tip.
Thanks. I did not know that.
@@teohyc Yeah, I use tilt a lot and was a bit disappointed by this it's about 2-3 cm around the edge where tilt doesn't change (if you have your pen touching the screen it will retain the last angle so you can finish the stroke but you can't change it which is kinda eh...).
Have a nice day!
How do you switch the tilt in krita??
@@GuyGieri If it's enabled for your brush (you can turn it on/off for anything) in your brush's settings (default shortcut F5). There you can enable tilt for whatever you want (for example to simulate pencil you'd probably want to enable it for Size - tilt elevation - and Rotation - tilt direction), there are curves for all these settings so if you are asking how to flip it just flip the curve.
There are default tilt brushes such as Pencil-5 Tilted which you can check and see for yourself how it works.
NicknameGeneratorFailed Thanks xD
THANK YOU for that zoom into the screen so we can see the pixelation. It's not enough when reviewers say "oh it's ok", we need to see it. You're the first one that does that. Seriously thank you. That's the only true downside of this tablet, but it's still excellent, and if that's the trade off for being this affordable then I'm very content 💜 definitely getting this one
I think this is where wacom gets threatened, never really thought xp-pen would have such a premium look AND THIS LOOK PREMIUM AS HELL! Love thisss
"premium look" has no place in affecting productivity.
this is why i always prefer xp pen and other brand than wacom.
they focus on the important bits while still being affordable
wacom is in serious trouble and i love it.
I still give props to them tbh for licensing their tech to other companies so they can continue to improve it.
I ditched Wacom 2 years ago since the can't even fixed my wacom companion of the overheating and shutting down problem.
@@topramen7431 I could be wrong but I think their patent expired or something like that. I doubt it was out of the kindness of their hearts.
The Equivalent to this tablet Wacom has is the Cintiq 16 but that costs around 250$ more for very similar performance. If you go with Wacom maybe paying 250$ for the extra brand name is not such a bad idea.
The problem is upgrading from there. XP Pen has great alternatives at 22 and 24'' for like 700$ when Wacom Charges several thousand dollars. This is why I moved to XP Pen. No way a tablet should cost more than my whole fing computer setup.
No they aren't. This is crap.

Innovator 16 looks very nice, it doesn't look just like another ''black slab'' like most graphcs displays these days.
Amazing and perfect timing! Just when I was about to look for pen display tablet haha. The improved ergonomics of the pen and the boost on performance are really huge points to consider. Thank you for the thorough review Teoh!
This tablet is gorgeous!
Thank you for this, the quality of your reviews is amazing!!!
Teoh! Thanks for the timestamps. There's a big sale in an online mall in my country and I'm contemplating whether to get this product but can't spare enough time to watch reviews. You really helped me a lot decide whether to get the product!
XP-Pen and Huions constant improvements and the amount of even smaller new companies make me happy!
Thank you for doing this, your reviews are always helpful, practical and people oriented. Seriously thinking of getting this tablet now.
Love your reviews , it's so chill to watch your videos.
CEO of timestamps and time saving~ We STAN
thanks for the review! I was initially going for the 15.6 pro however, this innovator 16 seems to have a better pen and screen
Wooaah that is a thin display tablet! i also love how many accessories are included and also the overall performance
This pen display's design look so cool and premium and I love it! 😍
That is so thin! Thank you for reviewing this. 👍
This looks so great. I could only watch reviews and unboxings of it. I would love to draw with that soon when I save up enough money.
Excellent detailed review, thank you! Impressive tablet for the price. Think this review has made up my mind as to which one I am going to buy.
Thanks for the great review Teoh!
This tablet looks great!! Thank you for such a great review
Hi Teoh thanks for this video I was confused for buy this one and with this video helps me a lot 🙏

Thank you so much for the exhaustively detailed review! :)
I’ve had mine for about a week and I love it!!
Thank you - it's because of your review that I decided to go ahead and upgrade my tiny wacom intuos to this one.
This is everything i ever wanted from a graphic pen tablet😍😍
This video was very useful, thanks!
Excellent review. Thanks Teoh!
Wow it's pretty nice. And it seems XP-Pen finally made a screen/pen with propor IAF and tilt working fine.
Selalu setia liat reviewnya!! best
Nice, detailed review!
Really considering on purchasing one!
An alternative affordable drawing tablet 🥺 Oh my! Xp pen has a pen case 😲❤️ Nice review ☺️
I have last year's model (Artist 15.6 Pro) and have really enjoyed it). This one looks great!
I think now the quality of the xp pen is almost on par with wacom. This is amazing, how the quality continues to grow OMG
Woow this look great,I like how xp pen keep improve their prodouct
Looks like a nice display version of deco pro medium. Love it :)
I got a laptop for my birthday, now I’m saving up for the 13.3 pro.
Love it! But I find it funny that you're drawing the taj mahal but it isn't available here in India which is so disappointing
Bangladesh Nepal Bhutan Pakistan everywhere available, not in India😒
Maybe because its a chinese brand. Lols
@@denmarkyoutube5992 all other xppen models are available in India just not this one 😭 and this is the only one that looks super cool
xp pen might have not given enough bribe to customs.
Great Review! An interesting product to be sure. I think, however, I'll wait to see if this stable of manufacturers will enter the touch screen realm. The longer it takes the more I will have saved enough money to satisfy my goal. The ball is in their court, who will get the prize?..B
nice sleek and minimalist design
Thank you for your sharing!
I think im gonna buy it very soon cuz i need this badass looking and nice slim body xp pen innovator 16 , i hope i can buy this pen tablet as soon as posible
I just won this from the magic card event, i cant wait to receive it!
Wow - this is really good!
OMG I'm looking for this!!
Hi ☘,thanks for the review,i was wondering one day maybe you can test it for sculpting, just a basic test is enough to get overall look for me 🤩
Thank you so much!
I love watching you draw!
This is soo cool! Wish I could buy it😭😂🙂 very good review👍👍👍👍
You are the sole reason i want this.
In my XP pen artist 15.6 pro i use books too for a better angle🙊❤️
same here !! i guess everyone got that idea now.
That looks awesomee
Thank you very much!
Very good video, thank you.
Good review
Thanks for the review. I like the product because it is slim and portable, easy to carry in case you need to use it outside the home. It is a bit similar to the Deco Pro :O
I use a Deco Pro S and it really is a wonder that it is helping me to polish my talent in illustration and it is helping me to study my courses online :')
...it is true about the configurations of the buttons on the tablet perhaps due to the habit of using the keyboard.
I use the wheel more for zoom and trackpad for brush sizes.
Excuse me, if you have used these XP-Pen products...please could you help me with this question:
When you want to configure the brush size in the "Illustrator" program....what is the command???
because add the commands "0" and "9" and if they fulfill their function but I only see that the brush size grows but the brush size that has been selected from the trackpad is not seen in the menu tab. Example: 1pt, 2pt.... ¿? or is this normal?
Very good her works, they are inspirational to keep going :)
Thanks and a good day!
11:26 Initial activation force - reminds me on the Deco Pro issues I had and why I had to return my product: Drawing subtle lines was not as easy as on my very old Wacom tablet. But the worst experience was to draw "stipples and dots". Quite impossible with Deco Pro / OSX. Would you mind to test many light stipples and dots on the Innovator display, please?!? Unfortunately, there is no Mac driver at the moment... but I would also like to hear your Windows experience. Maybe you can test the Mac version later on? Thanks in advance!!!
I recently returned my Deco Pro and got a Wacom because of this issue. Initial activation force was like 1000 of 8192 sensitivity. Seemed like a hardware issue.
@@rapidfire1567 I also had the feeling that I don't work with 8000+ levels, I mean even my super ancient wacom Intuos3 with only 1000 levels is much smoother and more responsive! The main issue with drawing and tipping on a spot is really annoying. If you move the pen with lightest pressure, you might not even notice that shortcoming. It shows up at making dots/stipples.
This pen display is actually not bad! I like the laminated display but it’s a bummer that the resolution is not that high :/
What's the difference between the artist series and innovator? Is it worth it?
Innovator has a more catchy design and it's thinner and I think that's it ahah. Not so much difference in € tho
the screen's laminated so there's basically no parallax, which is a big deal on it's own! i'm seriously considering replacing my 22E with one, but the lack of a proper stand is unfortunately a deal-breaker for me ):
From my point of view not having an in built stand is perfect for portability and also working from home. I would use it as a second monitor during working hours and then after work would use it for drawing. Space is a premium so having a big screen isn’t practical for me. Well done XP Pen, guess I’d better save up for it
@@dirtfriend how's the 22E working out for you?
That moment when I just got the 15.6 pro :,)
i'm about to get the 15.6 pro as well. thoughts? is the innovator better? :(
@@Lishiitaki I have a feeling the innovator may be better
is innovator better than the 22 pro?
Very useful review,,, thank you Teoh yi chie.,,,,,
Great review Teoh! How do you think it compares against Kamvas Pro 16?
If you use the shortcut keys, the dial/wheel is easier to use compared to the touch stripe on the Huion Kamvas. Otherwise, the drawing performance is quite similar for both pen display. You can compare the list of pros and cons on my blog www.parkablogs.com/tags/pen-display
The main reason I don't like to use displays like this is I don't like seeing the circle cursor while I draw. I've been spoiled by the natural feel of the iPad/Procreate and displays just don't feel like I'm drawing directly on the surface the way the iPad does. Does anyone know if you can turn off the cursor and/or if the surface on this feels like your stylus is directly touching your line/drawing surface? I have an old Cintiq but even when I calibrate, I still have this problem. Wonder if I'm also just bad at calibrating.
I wish i can have a tablet like that.btw cool drawing style
woah that is incredibly THIN!
I want it so bad but sadly, I can't afford any display tablets yet :((
Would love some help deciding between this or the xp pen 22E pro, anyone know which one is better? Hoping to get one since XP Pen are doing the New Years sales💓
thats wacom 2 pen quality right there, damn
Hi love the vid, I was wondering what brand do you recommend??
Huion or xp-pen???
They have similar drawing performance. So just choose the design you like best.
How do you like it compared to the cintiq 16?
I prefere the drawing tablet without screen me i have the old genious drawing tablet that you must put a battery to the pen to work i think the new pens work without batterie
How does this compare to the Wacom Cintiq 16? Which is better?
Plz Help!
Wich one is best wacom, xp pen, huion
Thanks Teoh for the review! Briefly you mentioned about using Photoshop, but what was the issue?
Just the usual input lag, where there's a gap between the line and the pen tip. But I think it's my computer.
That’s helpful to know, thanks again.
between XP-Pen Innovator 16 and XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro, which one is better than the other?
Do you think Xp Pen Artist 22r Pro is better than Xp Pen Innovator 16 and Huion Kamvas Pro 22 (2019) ??
can suggest me which model will be good for teaching analytical subjects for students?
That's a great review as always :) do you think this could be a good alternative to be used as a second monitor too during normal usage when not using it for drawing? I have got a tough question, do you think that for someone who would love to get more into digital drawing will be a tablet or a digital tablet like this a good solution? Or maybe having them both? The digital tablets looks a more professional experience overall. I'm wondering if I'm doing a bad thing sticking to a tablet or whether should I change. Thanks a lot for your time :)
Main advantage of such a pen display is you get to use software from your computer. And since it's a monitor you can use it as your main monitor too.
If you have a tablet already, just use that to see how often you are drawing. If you find yourself drawing frequently then it's going to be worthwhile to get a larger drawing display.
@@teohyc Thank you so much for your great suggestions Teoh, do you think that in terms of pen accuracy and latency this pen tablet performs better than the Samsung tab S7 or would you say that they are even? Thanks again!
@@annaiannone493 The pen display is going to be more sensitive then the Tab S7. The pen display will be more sensitive when drawing at low pressure. Latency will not be as good compared to Samsung since that's a 120Hz display.
Can you plug the tablet into the USB-C port of a compatible computer (the DisplayLink-compatible USB-C port on a modern graphics card, the Lightning-compatible USB-C port on a modern high-end laptop, etc.) to provide it with power, video, and data in a single cable without having to break it out into three plugs?
Hey Teoh, great video! Can I ask your opinion would you recommend this tablet over the Artist 15.6 pro? Thanks in advance
Main difference is Innovator has laminated display, but it needs two USB ports to power.
Teoh Yi Chie thank you!
Just placed an order for one based partially on this review. So thanks for your thoroughness!
Anyone have a sense of a realistic shipping time to the US?
Not sure about that. You've got to ask XP-Pen. Hopefully there's some sort of tracking.
How would it be compared to the 15.6pro?..i was lloking to get the 15.6pro..should i wait for the i16..?..would there also be a pro version in this?.. Thank you for the awesome review
XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro isn't very different from Innovator 16. The plus for Innovator 16 are design which looks better and the display is laminated.
Hi, is the display anti glare layer looks like the Artist pro (detachable) or is it integrated like Huion kanvas pro and has a paper feeling, lot of Thanks for your review
It’s a screen protector essentially so it can be removed and replaced
I have honestly had a very bad experience with this. The screen had problems from the very beginning until it completely turned green and violet. And pray you get your money back when they delay sanding the replacement! You have to freaking insist on that. Never again! I have never been so disappointed about a product... I have a Wacom Intous reconditioned (!!!) since 2013, still working perfectly!
wow....XP-Pen is DOING IT !
for some reason the sale price for the innovator 16 is actually cheaper than the artist 15.6 pro's sale price so :D
Always watch tablet, display tablet, pen tablet's reviews but have bought none of them :')
I love it, i need it, i... i ... i´m dead freaking surpriced for such a magestic developmend of XP-pen. :)
I now have this tablet for myself, and it’s great. I recommend someone getting into digital art to get it.
Teoh Yi Chie make a comparation of Xp Pen Artist 15.6PRO VS Xp Pen Innovator Display 16
In your opinion, which has a better feel. The Huion Pro 16 with etched glass or this one with the matte screen protector?
Actually to me they have the same feel. I personally don't mind matte screen protector or scratches that may develop.
Love it
Teoh, does the wheel have a "tactile" feeling or does it rotate smoothly? How does it compare to the 15.6 pro? (I prefer a tactile wheel that clicks a bit).
White wheel has audible click and feel. Black area is touch sensitive
are books included?
6:33 What did you use to color-calibrate the screen? The colors on mine are a bit brighter than the actual screen.
Spyder5pro calibrator
Soo thin, im looking to buy display tablet also, looks promising...
The cables and settings works fine for left-hand users?
Works fine. There is left hand mode
Hi, great review does this tablet have a regular tablet mode where you turn the screen off and use as a regular tablet with your monitor if you needed to?
Thanks
A quick video showing this would be super helpful
I don’t think so
