As an iPad artist for the past 3 years. Getting the xp pen artist 24 was a bless and with photoshop I can draw really loosely and have fun with such scale. Really happy with my purchase.
The art school I went to had Wacom reps come through on a regular basis. Back in 2017 I had an XP Pen Artist 10S with me when they were showing off their new, expensive tech, and I showed them the XP Pen tablet and asked them why they wouldn't make a screen tablet in the $200 range that the Artist 10S is in. Apparently it's because the build quality is terrible at the price range and that there seemed to be little interest in reusing their older tech to create new budget tablets. I was assured the tablet wouldn't last more than 2 years. It's lasted 3 years. Thank god Wacom's EMR patent expired. They're rightfully getting forced to compete in a market rather than running a monopoly.
When they say it's gonna last 2 years. It's based on the worst case user scenario, someone who treats it as if it was some toy. That's why wacom tablet were so sturdy and solid. I say "were", cause I feel it's less true these days.
@@FloMoonYeah That tablet survived a 20 MPH crash when I was riding a bike on black ice, and it's still fine. The tablet itself is sturdy, but the pen that came with it was flimsy and fell apart after a year of heavy use. Bought a replacement and noticed they used better materials at the same price, and it's going strong after 2 years. XP Pen seems to be the only Wacom competitor that's trying to improve durability.
@@romantia8327 I haven't used them personally - a few friends and classmates have huion tablets and outside of one having a faulty pen that came with their tablet, there's been almost no issues 3-4 years after using them.
If being straight honest. i love when you are doing a commentary and show from this POV. I mean, showing the display and how you hand moves, how you draw. Literally shows how the hand is used to it. Oh and the review is really great.
Im 46 and have been using an intuos. Really love it but hoping this is easier on the eyes. Playing with my brightness too. I think I burn my eyes with it being too bright. Lol
@@pencilkarate1713 you have a point there .. I did some research on this (coz a friends -an artist too- had back and neck pain because of a wrong posture .. while working with her cintiq 22 ) if memory don't fail me I bet was adam duff -aka lucid pixel another great artist and youtuber .. who did a vid about this topic .. working with a tablet seems the best option to have a good posture .. but regarding a tablet monitor .. from what I found about this is to sit straight with a good chair ..and you have to be close to the tablet monitor ..( closer not 10 cm closer but closer enough to be comfortable to draw on .. and this tablet monitor need to be around your eye level some folks buy an ergotron arm .. some like me build an easel.. with wood I have my cintiq companion on it .. to sum up basically you need to be sitting comfortable looking on front maybe slightly with your head down a bit .. Im gonna wait for 2 more generations... I feel like it's almost there but isnt. I tried a 15.6 pro and a cintiq pro.. still way different. I'm also already used to my intuos pro.
@@PotaraFusionHa Im curious .. which xppen tablet monitor you tried ? The 24 model and the 16 ‘’innovator’’. This two have new pen .. but anyways ..its cool u have the chance to try both brands . Wacom pro,pen 2 feels better then ?
Bought this display 2 weeks back and I must say its a great buy for the money, screen looks crisp, side buttons make drawing a lot smoother of a process and the 2 side dials are great for animation.
Been running the iPad pro for years now, even upgraded from the old to a newer Pro in 2019. But now I am finally hitting the limits of it’s capability’s, mainly for print artworks that need higher pixel counts. The fact that “cheaper” brands have come such a long way in the time I used the iPad is fantastic to me. Been eyeing the 24 Pro for a bit now, thanks for the fantastic review!
LOL i love your attitude, and that you dont care about offending xppen or wacom. You can feel it in your voice. Great review, love the usbc feature! Thats gold
I heard a lot of good reviews on huion as well but I am currently using my XPPEN Artist 15.6 Pro for year and a half now and still working very fine! Though I always don't like the screeching problem sometimes but working on it for a long time figure out how to get rid of it. The best feeling is of the pen when is if the nib was new.
I bought one of these on their anniversary sale and had to return it. The display wasn't working with the USB-C cable (only started functioning with USB + HDMI), and after restarting my PC the pen/tablet functionality stopped working from there onward - it was just a very heavy and expensive monitor. There was also a pretty noticeable scratch on the screen out of the box too which was a shame. Thankfully, their support was really good and after some troubleshooting gave me a refund and even covered the postage costs to send back to them. I might try one again from them in the future but i'm sticking to intuos3 and ipad pro for now :)
I bought my Artist 24 Pro about two months ago and hooked it up to my iMAC 27, i5, 2020. I ordered it from the manufacturer; it arrived from China in about 2+ weeks. It was in transit then customs in LA and then finally delivered. The packaging was intact and the unit also. Not a scratch, nothing missing including the xtra glove which I ordered but was never was charged for it, thank you XP-Pen. It booted up, installed the drivers (use the RUclips installation instructions) and it's been working fine ever since. Even though I have Adobe programs, Blender, etc..., I chose ArtRage with my bundle and it's the only program I've used thus yet. I'm closing in to my retirement age and I plan to spend many hours using this setup. There's no doubt in my mind that my Apple teamed up with my XP-Pen are a quality match for me to enjoy for many years to come. I enjoy technology as I worked all my life in this field and I am amazed by the performance of the Artist 24 Pro. I use Apple's Magic Track 2 and Magic mouse together with the programmable keys and wheels without a glitch. The drivers are up to speed with Apple's current Catalina iOS as of Oct. 2020. Thank you XP-Pen for such a wonderful product and customer support.
Great video Trent :) I used a wacom tablet for both my school time and the first 3 years of work in the industry. Last year I wanted to switch to a screen and stumbled on XP-Pen and the low money bar for the 16” made it an easy decision, and it's awesome, drawing a lot faster now and making fewer mistakes, only thing is the small size/resolution, I am use to my 32” 4k with full overview of all my layers, brushes and color wheel. I can only see 4 layers at a time on the 16” with just my secelect brush, so after a year of getting used to drawing on a screen I wanted to upgrade and glad to hear the 24 is great, hope it goes on sale for black friday.
I used to have a cintiq 24HD and a Bosto 22HD (I had to leave them both behind when I had to flee my country last year), and I was only able to get an XP Pen 15.6" Pro and was afraid of it's quality due to the low price but honestly even though the size is too small for me it is a really great product and brand, is not a Ferrari but I wouldn't put is as a Honda, it does feels more like a brand new Camaro or at least a Mustang, I'm looking forward buying a 22" or 24" from XP-Pen at some point in the future. I do have a problem with the 15.6" though, when I work at a zoom of less than 50% to see more of the page the strokes are super jaggy, it doesn't seem to happen at 25% but at 33/35% it seem to have the problem, I thought it was only on Clip Studio but it also happens on Paint Storm Studio.
Hey Trent, I'm glad to hear your honest opinion about this tablet as I was looking to buy one. About the parallax bit, I get what you're saying but it doesn't mean the offset of the pen and cursor, it means the gap between the drawing surface and the actual screen underneath. Something like the Wacom cintiq 22 would have a wider gap between, whereas this particular one has way less gap (parallax).
You’re missing two big points. First, you’re wrong about parallax to a degree. Parallax DOES mean the offset of the pen to a point; it is the byproduct of parallax/the screen having space between the drawing surface. What is Parallax? It is the gap between the drawing surface & screen. Okay, why tf does that matter lol? Because it causes the physical pen you’re holding & the digital cursor to be offset. These newer tablets are getting rid of parallax so that the screens can be closer & so that the cursor offset will be gone. That’s the key, parallax (the screen having a gap) causes the pen cursor to be offset. So now going back to Trent saying he’s never experienced Parallax & then saying that he likes the pen cursor to be offset from the actual pen so he can see the drawing surface; he is unknowingly or knowingly creating his own parallax/the side effect that parallax has which is cursor offset. Screens with parallax are irrelevant if you for instance are using a mouse because you aren’t drawing directly on top of the screen. It’s only relevant when you’re using a pen digitizer because then you’ll see the cursor offset that it is causing as a byproduct of the screen having a gap.
The stand is awesome to be honest but after more than a year with my 22 PRO i started having problems with the connections on the back be cause as you change the position of the stand (angle) it started a "material fatigue" problem with the connections on the back where now sometimes it disconnects and all the cables are plugged in, connection comes back after I move a little the connections so now I had to add a cable holder stuck with glue and use a "cable tie" (zip tie) on the back. If I ever buy another one I'll do my cable holder with glue thingy right away or try not to change the angle of the stand. Also I recommend to change the tips more often than normal to avoid scratches on the protecting film which has no replacement from XP-PEN.
Who still have your XP-Pen pentab for more than 3 years or so? I read a lot of reviews on it (display or none) and their pen is kind of not durable for a year or two, the tablet seems solid but I read a lot of complain about the pen. I know for sure Huion brands were not as durable as XP-Pen because I have two for a couple of years and here I am finding another drawing tablet and I am sure enough right now choosing XP-Pen because of durability but Wacom is very expensive. I already bought the XP-Pen Deco Pro but as I mentioned on my concern (and on many reviews on amazon) the pen is broken and I return and get my refund. I hope people who have experience with the brand can give me a hint or two. Great video by the way. I hope lots of artist and reviewer will be honest and not afraid to say things from user perspective just because a company send you a product to review. Many of them just read the already specs/claim of the given product not the actual performance it may be an opinion or not. Thanks Trent!
I have been using an xppen 15.6 pro for a year and a half non stop and so far the pen works as new, I had to replace the first nib since it was scratching the protective cover on the display but found out that removing the protective layer was better for me, so far I haven't changed nibs again even though sometimes I do press hard, but I'm not worried about the pen and they sell replacement pens anyway and are worth half of those from wacom so you wouldn't need to buy a new tablet every time your pen dies.
love this tablet, want one so bad, love the size and the visual graphic 2K, tried to get one to review but i'm not a professional by any means but to learn and try it out as i do draw and love you tube channels to show me how to better and better, thank you...
I bought artist 15.6 pro...not too small not too big. Stylus and drawing tablet like samsung or iPad or 2 in 1 are not same for pro use like 3d model or animation...just general use and sketch and not enough real estate... any bigger like 22 or 24 I would buy If i wanted as stationary commercial or big paint /strokes.
Welp, I'm sold. My old 21" Cintiq died last month, and I've been waiting on this review to decide whether I wanted to go with the 24" XP-Pen. I was super impressed with the review you did on the Innovator.
@@Mo-fc2vj I did, and I love it! There are a few little things here and there, but nothing insurmountable. Like, not having an eraser button on the pen. Just a little annoying. Otherwise the color and resolution and handling are GREAT compared to the old 21UX. Well worth the purchase, imo.
Hi thanks for the info, lashed out on one of these yesterday. They had 35% off so, was a deal sweetener was right on my limit. Went this version for the 2K resolution, menu buttons and physical size. Now... TBO I don't need all the real estate to draw.... however given all APPS have menus and use some I wanted to make sure I have enough to draw and navigate. Prob have to share with daughter who has a 8 yo Wacom tablet with 1024 pressure levels and no tilt. For me, I want to use it for texturing in substance painter. Almost went for the new one with 16384 pressure levels but for some reason it has a weird aspect ratio. Smaller on with 4K would have also been nice... but... all sold out.
Hey Trent, maybe you can review huion kamvas pro 24 later. I know, this channel not tech review channel but I would love to hear the thoughts of an artist like you. Also, your videos gave me strength again when I was a young artist who lost his motivation. I love you man, really!
Instead of an iPad pro I recommend a Microsoft surface pro7 8 or 9. It has really good pressure sensitivity and it's super fast and responsive they cost around 1200
Great suggestion. I've not tried that one so I can't do a direct comparison. But I know several people who use the surface pro as a sketching option. I don't know if they use it as a primary. Personally, I can't stand windows.
I had the surface pro, and honestly, I really don’t like their own tech. I find like control when drawing slowly to be very poor. If you cool with windows the Wacom EMR enabled 2 in 1s are best. Samsung, Lenovo and HP have options.
Great review man and yes I am about to buy one of those two products. But honestly I don't see big difference on the tech aspects other than the hot keys and the bigger display.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT REVIEW ON THE XP-PEN 24. I AM A 70 YEAR OLD VIETNAM COMBAT VET. AND I AM LEARNING DIGITAL ART AT HOME. LOOKING FOR A BETTER TOOL. I HAVE A XP DECO MED. BUT FOR ME IT IS JUST TOO SMALL. GOING TO PUT SOME $$$ ASIDE FOR A MUCH BIGGER PAD. WACO IS WAY TOO MUCH. IF THEY CUT THE PRICE BY A THIRD (3rd) I THINK THEY WOULD SELL MANY MORE. YOU DO GREAT WORK. GOD BLESS.
i've been using a pro-12 for the past few years, and sometimes the lag can be fixed by toggling raw input in your drawing appliaction. it tends to work far better after that
Hey, Trent! Thank you very much for your excellent review. I have been following XP-PEN and I am impressed with all the products, including the XP-PEN artist 24 Pro. Honestly, I believe that it is important to support these new companies and always have the option for good types of equipment and for lower prices. #XPPENTheBest #SupportWhoSupportYouXPPEN
The lighter weight of the Chinese styluses is the reason I switched over from Wacom. My old Intuos stylus is so damn unwieldy and I kept getting RSI from it.
Even a 16 inch will feel a lot better space wise. I used to use the surface pro and one downgrade you will experience is the surface has zero paralax where as these screens have a little. Also you cant zoom with your fingers but the wheels help with that. It took me a while to adjust after the surface but overall the monitors are better in my opinion because you can use a PC with a nice graphics card and the space is sooo nice.
Just realized today Ive been drawing on a 10 year old cintiq and im trying to decide between this or a huion 🤔, cintiqs the same size is a heartattack.
Hi there, watched a lot, and i mean a lot of comparison videos wacom to XP Pen,. I was aiming for a 32 Wacom Pro . It a shitload of dollarlalas. I am not a prof artist, just loving 3D and a friend of using the best tools i can get my hands on. Sure, sometimes way over the top to pay so much for simply a hobby. When i started to play drums, i bought a Roland TD50 eventhough i had no idea how to play. That kinda guy is what i am. But you got me thinking of making an exception this time and give XP a try. Worst is some 800 bucks down the drain, right? Ok, just wanted you to know that it was you who tipped the scale in favor of the XP because your review is honest and in the right words. Just the right mix between making me laugh and shoveling the important facts over the table. Ah, and BTW.... I love the drawing you did through the video. Always make me jealous seeing so much talent where i have none ;) Would love to build that in 3D. What do you think? Walking around in your creation has a nice ring to me. Sure, will take some time, but hey, i am a software developer. For that species nothing is impossible and there are no problems, only challenges ... Cheers and all the Best form Germany
Hi Trent, I was wondering if you could speak about the build quality of this tablet compared to other pro tablets such as the Wacom, 27 QHD or 32"? Fantastic video and review by the way.
Excellent point on parallax in general and how it can be easily dealt with: I'm always amazed at how this aspect of a drawing display is overblown by so many people.
It's not at all overblown, nor is it an excellent-point. Calibration is "supposed" to fix parallax-issues. Unfortunately, in some tablets no matter how much calibrating you do, you *cannot* fix that issue. Also, some people don't want the cursor dragging behind the lines. It's okay if some people like it that way just like it's okay if some people like to eat food that's not good for them. Please don't act like parallax is a phantom-issue or it is "useful" for most.
I'm using this one for 2 months. Great and solid built tablet. The only issue I've found is.... Line wobbling. Yeah. You can probably notice that if you'll try to draw a straight line slowly. I've heard that some Cintiq models have those issues too. Is that true?
Smoothing option (if available in your program) is really the only way to get rid of that. If you're making fast strokes, it's not a problem, but the pens are so sensitive that they will pick up every jolt if you're trying to do a long slow line. I keep mine at about 20-40% when I'm inking. Otherwise you'll have to paint smaller line arcs.
@Eric Summers That's Right. A good solution actually. I've tried the native smoothing and Lazy Nezumi for a short period of time (with catch up option enabled). Still feels a little unnatural because of the brush tip delay:( Hope you know what I mean. The actual end of the line follows kinda late after the physical pen tip. Thank you anyway.
I appreciate your content. Curious if you have had any experience with the Xencelabs products. Specially the 24” 4k pen display? I’m currently in school for my BSA in computer animation and character design and they gave us the xencelabs tablets but I prefer a pen display. I currently work on my iPad Pro but would like more real estate for larger works. I’m debating between that and the cintique but I’m really liking the build quality and the dual pen setup that comes with the xencelab tools. That would than give me 4 pens. lol almost one for each finger of my drawing hand. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I'm curious if people get neck problems when using screen display tablets vs. pen tablet setup. Also, seeing videos on the inta webs suggesting using Versa or Xoot mounts, but sure how effective it will be for somebody illustrating for long periods.
Yeah. After using Cintiq 13HD for 7 years, my neck and back hurt a lot just from looking down. I imagine bigger displays on mounts are better but then the hands get exhausted. I’m looking into buying a regular screenless tablet for ergonomics. I am much faster on a screen display but I’d get faster on the regular tablet after a while. I have nice wrist rests, stand with many angles, good chair but nothing helps :( wish cintiq had an option to shut off the screen for a while and use it like that
@@anam00090 hi, I use a huion pro 13, but I find it much better now for my posture to use a 24 inch regular monitor with the huion display set lower down in front of it on a stand, and most of the time I just use it like a pen tablet whilst looking straight ahead at the big monitor. Any tricky bits I can then just look down for a bit and use it as a screen tablet. Also on mine you can turn off the actual display by unplugging & replugging the usb cable, then it’s just a pen display. Might be worth a try if you haven’t done so already?
I am a beginner, and I love it ! I started with the IPAD pro 12.9 but wanted something bigger. and if i am being honest I dont mind the that the screen isnt silky. Actually, now when i use my ipad I find its a bit harder than before to get the lines straight with a realistic like pencil because its so smooth compared to the XP which i am now use to lol I usually dont start something with cheaper products either I always like to have the best of the best especially if its about something that I know I wont grow out of I found the perfect settings for the pen itself as well. I read before buying that people kept having to calibrate the pen and the screen etc but after many tests and tweaks I was able to figure out how to avoid all that so. now when my computer sleeps it still turns on with the exact settings. as for the color oh man i tried so many settings but still after that somedays or even hours it just didnt look as great and it was bugging me sooo much and then randomly i tried one thing days later and it completely changed the game lol sooo weird! great video even though i know this is from 2 years ago lol
I would loove to see trent doing a review of this Huion 24 pro .. this and the xp pen 24 are muy top choices .. I heard too that the huion pen is bit better .. the only issue or not (?) of the huion 24 is that it ''seems'' to have something with it's brightness .. on paper says 220 or something but some youtubers reported only 156 if recall it right .. its odd .. but havig it at 15x its very ok .. what bugs me about it its that its a good piece hardware .. etched gladd nice pen .. 2k nice color range .... but well this brightness things .. on the other hand .. Im using my cintiq companion 2 at its half brightness .. I read some cintiq s also had low brightness but I cant remember where I read it .. or which was the specific model .. all in all what makes me happy is that wacom is starting to have competition .. some friends are trying to convice me to buy the cintiq 22 but aaghh 1000 u$d - + bucks for a 22 full HD!! ahh its hard to swallow in 2020 .. pff .. really .
@@Почемувыопятьнепонимаете thank youu ,.. yeah I have the same impression .. they released a new pen anyway It would be really cool if Trent could make a review .. it would help my biased subconscious thoughts after so many years of ''wacom 'regime and supremacy .. to make ''da'' jump to other brand :D coz 1000 bucks is not cheap .. and I need gather courage and this kind of vids like trent did and your comments helps a lot :)
@@Chejov1214 ,we probably don't need something so expensive. After all, some standards and what kind of tablets are convenient to use and need to be used have already been established , so I think it's not worth chasing trends. ^_^ But if difference between my current tablet and new will worth it's price, ill buy it! :)
Trent! Hey man I got that xp-pen 13 incher about a year or so ago per your older video. Man THAT THING is soooo awesome. It's made my life so much better. I love it over that bamboo pen and touch thing I had. I was hesitant at first bc it was like 300 bucks, but I jumped and haven't regretted it. Glad I found your video. The pro comes with MORE buttons than the one I got, but hey 8 buttons are good enough for me. 😂
10:00 that's not parallax, calibration fixes what you referring "x,y" but the usual parallax from this devices is "z": the thickness of the glass vs laminated displays.
Hey Trent what would you suggest for someone who is trying to write a graphic novel and has an idea of what they want the story to be and who the characters are but is unsure of what the world looks like, how should I go about creating the world of my own story?
While I am not Trent, I would highly recommend picking up a world-building program like Wonderdraw or Campaign Cartographer. Humble Bundle often has sales on these or you can find other programs for free on the Internet. Characters are shaped by the world they live in and vice versa, so envisioning and knowing that world would be beneficent in rounding out your characters.
@@TrentKaniuga you're the first. 😐. Plenty of users shared videos and pictures of this issue, hence XP Pen now sells screen protectors now for an additional $50.
@@TrentKaniuga Yes, sadly most of them are but you can get HP Laptops that have a touchscreen and can be used with a pen for around 900. I had one a while ago; an HP Touchsmart 2. It wasn't that expensive and was a lot of fun to digitally paint with! But thanks for the video! I'm thinking about buying this because it has all those express keys that can be customized. The Wacom Cintiq needs a separate remote to do that and also it doesn't have as many buttons. I have a Gaomon PD2200 and I wanted something better. Thanks for the review!
Could you share your thoughts on when to or if to switch from a drawing tablet to a display? I have a tablet and iPad combo. But getting the display just seems like overkill currently. More of a want than need. Maybe elaborate more on your thought process.
MY XP-PEN NIGHTMARE: Just because i you asked i wanna say that i had a horrible experience with XP-Pen. I was super excited to get the 16" a few years back my first display ever. But when it arrived i had a lot of issues, first with the drivers and second with the actual screen connecting to my PC. it never did and i always had a bunch of connection issues. XP-pen would only answer at like 3 am? and after countless days of losing sleep and talking to customer service, they just told me, lol! we're sorry but u live in Mexico and we don't honour our warranty there, EVEN THO I bought it here?! so if you want us to give you your money back send it in the mail. And I had to pay out of my own pocket the shipping to the USA in UPS cause I kept explaining to the dude like, hey, mail-in Mexico is not like mail in the US, I know people send money over the mail there, here i leave the display in my post office and it will 99.99% be stolen. Either by a worker, a driver, customs... the display would not make it. (like i know this isn't their fault but i am still pretty mad that they didn't like offer to help or anything cause even if i sent it on regular mail I WAS EXPECTED TO PAY FOR IT) So yeah i ended up loosing over like 3K pesos, that's about 150USD because of the shipping alone and i was so put off by international customer service that i swore off the brand. But i heard pretty good things if you're USA based... so idk :(
i've found that i enjoy drawing on both pen tablets and pen displays. they are both fun to draw on. i might actually give the edge to pen tablets because you don't have to look at your hand when you draw and you can sit up straight looking directly ahead. plus the resolution of a pen tablet is unlimited. it is only limited by what your computer can pump out. but i wouldn't buy a really cheap pen tablet. i tried one and it kinda sucked
I know this video is 3 years old but just researching this xp pen tablet and came across it! I am coming from a 22hd cintiq, I've had it for 10 years now and it's showing it's age in all kinds of ways. In the past I would never consider another brand but I am seeing so many glowing reviews for this artist 24 pro and its like $600 on sale now on their website thats more than half of what I paid for my 22hd!!! are you still using it? if so have you run into another issues down the line? thanks!
7:25 - does xp pen have a spin / z axis to change angles of the brush? that's default with cintiq / wacom Art Pen? I use a ton of assymetrical brushes that rely on rotating while stipling...
Ive tried to find it online, even on XP Pen's page, but nowhere to be found: What is the Hz number of this tablet? I absolutely love the 120hz display of the iPad pro and I feel the difference a lot, when comparing it to the 60hz displays of the iPad air.
i am using an Ipad air4 right now with procreate to draw last time i did art was back when i was 16-18 it's been a long time. i am wanting to get something for my PC so i can have more layers and to give my tablet a bit of a rest and that is not to big not much room on my desk. any thoughts for something with crap for a budget :P ???
Hey. I am planning on buying the Artist 24Pro. I wanted to know if the tablet can also charge an M1 Macbook air while connected it it via Type C cable. As the Tablet is already drawing power from the wall.
Might sound dumb but i genuinely wonder, im gonna buy my first graphic tablet (this video kind of painted xp pen in a more positive light so maybe this brand afterall). Are there updates on the pen throughout the years?
Hey Trent, I have been wondering if I was to work for Blizzard, or something similar, would I be required to do my art in Photoshop, or could I use Clip Studio or another alternative?

@@TrentKaniuga Yes do try, i switched from an intuos to a Huion ink... And to be honest haven't really felt a difference... The tips are great, pressure sensitivity even tilt support
You can. It's just faster to set up if it's mirrored, and if you're always unplugging and then docking, it loses the "main monitor" setting, so you have to drag photoshop over to the new screen and then drag over any popup windows.
Greetings & Hello - Happy Holidays to you. I understand this is a 2-year-old video now though I am really hoping I could get some answers. I personally have the Innovator16 - its my first drawing display from xppen [ used huion drawing tablet with no screen before ] and been using it for the last couple years. Its slowly giving me some glitchy issues [ which xppen has confirm its likely was a default tablet but I am past my 18 months warr ] - I am itching to upgrade to a larger screen with the xppen deal they have right now and looking at the 22R Pro or the 24 Pro - which by looking pretty much the same just the different size. My question[s] is : Do you still think this info holds up now being its 2 year later ? I personally just would want it for a larger screen setup - it doesnt need to be portable since I dont do stuff on the go or away from my desk. I worry that since the Inn16 did come out after these, it may be a downgrade however since they were all out within the same year it shouldnt be that much of a difference but compared to now with others display that came out like Huion's display having better colors - there is just so many info with this is better because of that or that is better because of this and I am just a bit in the middle on what would be the best. Any info and advice you may have would be awesome !
Already bought the innovator 16 for my Mac and I'm thinking of purchasing the 24 Pro as well. Do you know if there would be any driver issues trying to use both products? Would really appreciate it if this can be answered!
@pai pai My problem is that I have to swap between straight lines (nib) and curved lines (right mouse click). The straight lines are no problem, the right click (on the little button of the pen) will "click" when I only hover over the surface and after several curved lines it erases everything. That is annoying when you have done quite a bit of work ad it is all wasted. I now do everything in straight lines and then change the nodes to curves, asd required, afterwards. That is extra work and I have tried just about every setting - no luck. I have not tried to take the pen apart and adjust the setting on the inside. Every idea would be appreciated. I deal with it but it could be better.
I really like to buy one though but really not happy with the drive which i had very bad experience with xp tablet with Mac. Its a nightmare with driver. I am still thinking whteher i should go iPad Pro or this 24 Pro. Cannot spend for two. one thing i don't understand clearly is some are stlll saying xp pen can use with PS. As a Mac user i don't see any issue with sidecar to use PS. Are they talking about Windows User ? Any experience with ipad pro Sidecar with PS ?
Question: does this tablet play nice with a Microsoft surfacebook 2? Or SB3 or the surface pro range. I know Wacom drivers don't like the ntrig and touch screen drivers.
Whats your opinion about the brightness in comparison to an ipad? I need a graphics tablet for my pc because with the ipad on a pc its allways a bit wicky wacky 😅😂 could you recommend it then? I had a old wacom cintiq and was very unhappy with it- mostly because of the cables and stuff.
iPad Pro "close to $2000" huh???? I just bought the 2020 iPad Pro + the Apple Pencil for $1,019. They also threw in free Airpods which I sold for $100. I spent a total of $919 which is nowhere near the 2k mark.
Yeahhh being that misinformed on current options while doing a tablet review isn't a good idea xD Also leaving Huion out as one of the higher-end Wacom alternatives isn't fair imo
An iPad Pro, with expanded memory (which you need for large files) =$1500. Case (which you will need to prop it up = $100. Apple Pencil (which you will need to draw =$130. + screen protector = $50 + 10% sales tax = grand total of $1980. So what exactly am I misinformed about?
@@TrentKaniuga If using it only for art 128GB storage + cloud storage is adequate (you'll most likely want cloud storage anyways for managing files) and I really can't see anyone NEEDING to put down $1400 for a TB just for art. The biggest shortcoming hardware-wise for the iPad is definitely RAM limitations, I haven't ever hit a storage wall. You can get decent tablet stands, which I would def recommend over a case - better support/viewing angles and better ventilation - starting at ~$30 on Amazon. Paperlike is overrated and you can get suitable matte screen protectors for about $10 for a pack of 3 last I purchased some. So that still comes out to nearly half the claimed $2K. Apologies for assuming you were underinformed, in the end I just don't agree with your figures for entry, especially if we're talking about beginners. Regarding Huion, their Kamvas pro 24 model is almost exactly like this XP-Pen, but with a etched glass screen instead of the film, so I felt ignoring them as a higher-end Wacom alternative would most likely also be from lack of information. Apologies again for my assumption.
@@TrentKaniuga Like Part-Time Warrior mentioned you can use cloud storage... or you could offload the large files onto a spare hard drive. You can buy a LaCie 1TB portable hard drive from Apple for $85 (and you can find them much cheaper elsewhere). Here are more exact numbers = I paid $1,089.26 (including tax) for a 2020 12.9” iPadPro 128GB + Apple Pencil + Free AirPods. I also got a case for $25 and a 2 pack of screen protectors for $10. That's a grand total of roughly $1,125. After selling the AirPods it came out to $1,025 TOTAL spent for my iPadPro. Even if one had to buy the portable hard drive it's still much cheaper than 2k.
@@TrentKaniuga you were close enough Trent. I have priced those overpriced things too and your estimate is pretty accurate. There will always be different opinions and use cases that will effect the prices. But seriously..even at $1300....for a tiny 12.9" screen???? Thats just nuts.
Huion has a new kamvas 22 plus with a really good display. Cant decide if I should get one or if I should geat an xp pen artist 22r pro. What do u think, is xp pen better for professionals?
As an iPad artist for the past 3 years. Getting the xp pen artist 24 was a bless and with photoshop I can draw really loosely and have fun with such scale. Really happy with my purchase.
Thinking about moving from iPad Pro to this, with the iPad Pro as a travel backup.
And u have a extra computer for the photoshoop
How is it are they still good
@@User-nc1vp iPads are still good, but really expensive. The new pen went from $99 to $129, because of course it did.
sorry my question is not clear, how is yours xp-pen artist 24 now
The art school I went to had Wacom reps come through on a regular basis.
@@redandblack641 what do you think about huion?
@@romantia8327 I haven't used them personally - a few friends and classmates have huion tablets and outside of one having a faulty pen that came with their tablet, there's been almost no issues 3-4 years after using them.
My 10S is still working as well :D
If being straight honest. i love when you are doing a commentary and show from this POV. I mean, showing the display and how you hand moves, how you draw.
Literally shows how the hand is used to it. Oh and the review is really great.
gettin mine tomorrow ,,1st time ever getting into digital art :) gonna be inspiring to star with along watching vids like yours : tnks
I am with you on the large screen because I am a 50 something. I really like the XP pen brand as well. I have two of them.

Im 46 and have been using an intuos. Really love it but hoping this is easier on the eyes. Playing with my brightness too. I think I burn my eyes with it being too bright. Lol
I finally got around to taking the dive and buying a propper tablet and with your advice I picked an XP pen and Im loving it so far

I have the xppen 15.6 and it’s amazing these drawing tablets keep getting better and better
It’s only relevant when you’re using a pen digitizer because then you’ll see the cursor offset that it is causing as
a byproduct of the screen having a gap.
Great stuff man. Its nice to see quality competitors to WACOM coming out.
Great communicator, love your style, oh and the art, while listening, whaaat!! Loved the video thanks man
Who still have your XP-Pen pentab for more than 3 years or so?
Huion Kamvas 22 and 22 Plus is also really good for the price. Great review!
love this tablet, want one so bad, love the size and the visual graphic 2K, tried to get one to review but i'm not a professional by any means but to learn and try it out as i do draw and love you tube channels to show me how to better and better, thank you...
I bought artist 15.6 pro...not too small not too big. Stylus and drawing tablet like samsung or iPad or 2 in 1 are not same for pro use like 3d model or animation...just general use and sketch and not enough real estate... any bigger like 22 or 24 I would buy If i wanted as stationary commercial or big paint

Welp, I'm sold. My old 21" Cintiq died last month, and I've been waiting on this review to decide whether I wanted to go with the 24" XP-Pen. I was super impressed with the review you did on the Innovator.
Let me know if what you think after you get it!
How many years did the Cintiq last?
@@delusionalunicorn5324 Bought it mid-2011, so just over 9 years of pretty heavy use.
Did you end up getting the 24XP-Pen ? If so what do you think off it coming from older cintiq ?

Thanks! I'd stopped doing tablet reviews for about a year because I've found everything that works for what I need. But I'll look into the kamvas.
@@TrentKaniuga ah gotcha, I guess you have been using Mac since they first came out
I had the surface pro, and honestly, I really don’t like their own tech.
Hey man, great review. I'm glad you gave us advice about how heavy and bulky this thing is.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT REVIEW ON THE XP-PEN 24. I AM A 70 YEAR OLD VIETNAM COMBAT VET. AND I AM LEARNING DIGITAL ART AT HOME. LOOKING FOR A BETTER TOOL. I HAVE A XP DECO MED. i've been using a pro-12 for the past few years, and sometimes the lag can be fixed by toggling raw input in your drawing appliaction. it tends to work far better after that

I have the artist 22E. I am considering the 24R Pro simply because of the battery free stylus.
The lighter weight of the Chinese styluses is the reason I switched over from Wacom. My old Intuos stylus is so damn unwieldy and I kept getting RSI from it.
I like the directness ...being honest and blunt is perfect haha
I draw on my 13" Surface Pro and was just looking to upgrade to a larger screen for my main workspace. This looks great!

Always make me jealous seeing so much talent where i have none ;)
Would love to build that in 3D. What do you think? Walking around in your creation has a nice ring to me. Sure, will take some time,

Great video Trent. I just bought this 150 quid voucher off. Win win. Just waiting for delivery sucks :)
Thank you anyway.
i got me a wacom 27 for 500 bucks lol its my first... im happy with it... the touch function is also very cool for windows :D
The "problems' are the same as using paper.
My neck says yes, but I don't have an arm stand nor an elevating desk which could be game changers.
I have nice wrist rests, stand with many angles, good chair but nothing helps :( wish cintiq had an option to shut off the screen for a while and use it like that
Oh man, sorry to hear that. I don't wish that on anybody. I hope these companies consider our necks instead of our monies.
Might be worth a try if you haven’t done so already?
hi Trent, what's the size & dpi of that drawing? I'd like to draw something that big
I especially like when you talked about parallax. Your tone of voice is hillarious.

I read some cintiq s also had low brightness but I cant remember where I read it .. or which was the specific model ..
all in all what makes me happy is that wacom is starting to have competition .. some friends are trying to convice me to buy the cintiq 22 but aaghh 1000 u$d - + bucks for a 22 full HD!! ahh its hard to swallow in 2020 .. pff .. really .
@@Chejov1214 nowdays Huion focused on better producs, so i am sure, it is good tablet.
I'm using kanvas 13 pro and it's still good
Forgot to add, that I can watch 2k videos on RUclips as well.. Surprised me, figured I can just do 1080p
Ey trent I really love your work man!!!
whats my job? lol.
@@TrentKaniuga uh ... I meant work! hahahaha sorry xD
Love your work!
You ever tried the wacom mobile studio pro ?
No. The last Wacom product I reviewed was the companion.
The screen scratches easily on the XP PEN. The Huion Kamvass doesn't scratch because it's laminated glass.
Really? Never had that problem.
@@TrentKaniuga you're the first. 😐. Plenty of users shared videos and pictures of this issue, hence XP Pen now sells screen protectors now for an additional $50.
Haven't you tried the Huion 24 pro? It is said to be identical to this one but with better glass (textured and with less parallax)
Tablet computers definitely exist! Have you heard of the Surface Studio 2? or any of the HP Tablet laptops??
Yes. but those are thousands of dollars. Arent they?
MY XP-PEN NIGHTMARE:
Just because i you asked i wanna say that i had a horrible experience with XP-Pen.
But i heard pretty good things if you're USA based... so idk :(
i've found that i enjoy drawing on both pen tablets and pen displays. they are both fun to draw on. i might actually give the edge to pen tablets because you don't have to look at your hand when you draw and you can sit up straight looking directly ahead. plus the resolution of a pen tablet is unlimited. it is only limited by what your computer can pump out. but i wouldn't buy a really cheap pen tablet. i tried one and it kinda sucked
thanks for vids, dude!
Dude your drawing books are Dope as fuck!
Yes.
Ive tried to find it online, even on XP Pen's page, but nowhere to be found: What is the Hz number of this tablet? I absolutely love the 120hz display of the iPad pro and I feel the difference a lot, when comparing it to the 60hz displays of the iPad air.
60hz
i am using an Ipad air4 right now with procreate to draw last time i did art was back when i was 16-18 it's been a long time. i am wanting to get something for my PC so i can have more layers and to give my tablet a bit of a rest and that is not to big not much room on my desk. any thoughts for something with crap for a budget :P ???
Aw trent, I miss your salsa intro
I wish i can draw like you
Great piece, Trent!
Hi I am confused with huion kamvas pro 24 vs xp pen artist pro 24. Please help. I want for 3d sculpting and texturing.
What about something like this but much cheaper. Was looking for something cheap display tablet.
Check out the other tablet mentioned in the video called the Innovator16. It's much cheaper but smaller
Will it be better than cintiq pro 16 for flyer / brochure design?
Hey Trent,
Do you have any tips for learning art from scratch?
Watch my videos for beginners
Hey Trent, I have been wondering if I was to work for Blizzard, or something similar, would I be required to do my art in Photoshop, or could I use Clip Studio or another alternative?
You would have to request a license through their IT department, which needs to get budget approval, and if the AD says no, then it’s a no.
@@TrentKaniuga Thanks!
@@kaelenhollyer9880 It likely would not be approved if it is not on the companies pre approved software list of applications that can be installed on their computers and that have been deemed secure. Normally enterprise size corporation have a deal with adobe to make the software cheaper and a enterprise profile. I normally have to guide end users with how to install adobe creative cloud onto their computer using the software center because that is the approved way to download the application.
Anyone know where I can find the painting he was working on?
It will be in the World Of Twilight Monk Volume 2. You can get volume 1 at www.aquatic-moon.com
To be honest Trent I feel Huion are slightly superior than Xppen. They have really improved and got rid of the springy pen that quite anoys😁😁
Really? Okay! I'll give them another shot. I have been hearing a LOT of folks telling me that the Kamvas is really good!
@@TrentKaniuga Yes do try, i switched from an intuos to a Huion ink... And to be honest haven't really felt a difference... The tips are great, pressure sensitivity even tilt support
do MacBook's not let you use an extended display instead of cloned?? it kinds kills the fun of having two screens
How long can the USB cable be?
I’m really curious how you change the colour of your pen without touching the pallets.
"Alt" on your keyboard will color dab (color select) whatever you click on.
Ididgize embroidery designs and sometimes have problems with the stylus on the XP-Artist 22E Pro. By the way: love the drawing.
1:48 Since when does the price of the iPad Pro come close to 2000 dollars?
Once you buy all of the other required stuff (pencil, screen protector, expanded memory, etc) it comes out to 1950.
Cool video can u do a Halloween themed drawing?
I really like to buy one though but really not happy with the drive which i had very bad experience with xp tablet with Mac. Its a nightmare with driver. I am still thinking whteher i should go iPad Pro or this 24 Pro. Cannot spend for two. one thing i don't understand clearly is some are stlll saying xp pen can use with PS. As a Mac user i don't see any issue with sidecar to use PS. Are they talking about Windows User ? Any experience with ipad pro Sidecar with PS ?
I hope i can have a teacher like you 🥺
Question: does this tablet play nice with a Microsoft surfacebook 2? Or SB3 or the surface pro range. I know Wacom drivers don't like the ntrig and touch screen drivers.
Can you use the xp pen 24 connected with the Intuos at the same time?
But... why? I mean, yes you can just use it as a monitor.
@@TrentKaniuga Yeah thinking it would be a good 2nd monitor connected on to a VESA mount
You have to plug it is its' own power supply? With nothing in it?
I have a question for you Trent. How many drawings at week do you need to submit when working for a video game company? Thank you!
Yeahhh being that misinformed on current options while doing a tablet review isn't a good idea xD
Also leaving Huion out as one of the higher-end Wacom alternatives isn't fair imo
Those are only 1080p though
