actually that is a parrallel that lucas drew there. ignoring the obiwan series (since it didnt exist when lucas made these) , obi wan never called him anakin again after he was burned on mustafar. it was the true death of anakin and the birth of vader.
Same. Dozens of times watching this movie and I've probably watched a dozen youtubers react to this move. And her saying that was the first time that connection had been made for me.
Anakin says: " His fate will be the same as ours ", as he rescues Palpatine and Obi-Wan. He was right. All three will die on a Death Star, killed by each other.
Fun fact: the final duel between Anakin and Obi-wan was filmed without any frame rate or overclocking trickery. In the words of the stunt/fight coordinator: “They trained that hard and they are that fast.”
When anakin was being burned and you said it was like a jedi funeral, that was something I'd never thought of. Very good catch. I wonder if George Lucas even made that symbolic connection. This is my favorite out of the star wars saga, just because of the amount of tangible raw emotion in it. The audience can really feel the character's pain. Vaders story is a such a tragedy.
actually that is a parrallel that lucas drew there. ignoring the obiwan series (since it didnt exist when lucas made these) , obi wan never called him anakin again after he was burned on mustafar. it was the true death of anakin and the birth of vader.
"The Tragedy of Darth Vader, the Chosen One." I'm not sure if that connection was on George Lucas mind. I know from the extra material that Lucas was very specific of how the burning of Anakin should be visualized. But as I understood it, it was primarily to match the scars Vader had - and were revealed in Episode VI when Luke took off his mask.
The symbolism in the windu palp Anakin scene is a Rotj call back. Here Anakin is watching a Jedi attack an unarmed sith who's begging for his help to save his life and Anakin intervenes...in Rotj a sith is attacking an unarmed Jedi who's begging for his help and life and AGAIN Anakin intervenes.
@@nathanlawson313 despite all the atrocities Vader has committed, I would imagine he still has a warriors sense of honour when it comes to fighting then again he mauls down rebels without pity or care so maybe I'm just daydreaming lol
@@jeffreyelliott713 Given what we see Vader do in the Kenobi series I don't think he has honor in mind during his fights. I mean, even as Anakin he didn't take Dooku in when he had already won.
I know people say it's very meme worthy....but still when Padme says, "This is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause"...that's still pretty chilling.
Behold! The only star wars prequel that the critics liked! Then Again, I can't blame them considering this is, despite the few dialogue flaws, a pretty well written movie with great emotional depth, great visuals, great story with high stakes and a satisfying end to the trilogy and a satisfying transition from Anakin to Darth Vader.
Palpatine was the apprentice of Darth Plagueis, and was the one who betrayed and murdered him. Which is why he smiles telling the story. He is also the one (possibly) who planted the dreams of Padme's demise in Annikin's mind. Yoda recognized immediately that fear of loss was a path to the dark side, which is why Palpatine does this, it's in his nature.
Greetings from Poland 🖖😎 Palpatine did not implement the dreams of Padme's death, in my opinion he also foresaw the future and as he was very intelligent, he manipulated Anakin as he saw fit and for his needs😉 I agree with the rest, and have a nice day😎
That final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan is super intense. Stunt doubles were used for some parts, but Ewan and Hayden did most of lightsaber work. Some incredible dedication learning such complex choreography.
“He’s too dangerous to be kept alive” that’s what made Anakin realize that the Jedi and Sith are not so different and the Jedi will betray their code when convenient. The Jedi code was the one thing keeping him from turning to the dark and Mace Windu showed him that it didn’t matter that much.
considering how he dealt with Dooku he should've been cool with that type of action, but palpatine could save padme so now it's a violation of the jedi code.
@@aaronking5640 did u totally miss the part where Anakin realises what he did was wrong so when he sees one of the 2 most powerful masters in the Jedi order betray the Jedi code he realised that neither the Jedi nor the sith can be trusted. In addition to that Palpatine was a mentor to Anakin since he was 9 and treated him both far better and more fairly than the Jedi so in his mind, it really came down to evil dude who says he can help my wife and evil order that treats me like shit and can't do anything for me
@@friofrost09 exactly. What is this guy talking about. Should had name another jedi. But mace? He all for destroying sith or anything evil lmao. Do he not know the fighting style he utilizes too
That's a really good spot that when Anakin was on fire it was like a Jedi funeral - the death of Anakin and the birth of Vader. Never thought of that before. Brilliant reaction videos - really genuine. Keep it up!
There's a little bit of symbolism in Anakin and Obi-Wan's last scene together as both fellow Jedi and as friends: as they say goodbye, one is standing in the dark while the other is surrounded by the light.
Just know that there is cut audio from the burning scene. Anakin yells out "please, help me Master" as he's burning, after Obi-wan's "you were my brother" scene. This is where Obi-wan turns his head in disgust before leaving him to die. Obi-wan also takes Padme with him, who ends up dying according to Anakin's nightmares. ("You will not take her from me!") It puts Anakin's/Vader's hatred for Obi-wan into perspective.
"In a way that was a Jedi funeral." I've been obsessed with Star Wars since I was a toddler and never once did that cross my mind. That's the second thing I've heard that has blown my mind about scene like that in Star Wars. The other one being Luke throwing his lightsaber away after seeing how he and Vader were alike (via severed hand") being a direct callback to the cave in Empire when Yoda says "your weapons; you will not need them."
Some fun facts: Palpatine's story about Darth Plagueis' killing him in his sleep: Palpatine _was_ that apprentice. It's covered will in the book "Plagueis" which takes place during the events of The Phantom Menace. If you notice Anakin' line while trying to rescue Obi Wan in the beginning, "His fate will be the same as ours..." Anakin, Palpatine, and Obi-Wan all died on a Death Star.
Wait? I could be wrong but, didn't Obi die on a star destroyer instead of a deathstar? Its been a while since I watched the movies so memory is a bit foggy.
@@rodew2875 no, he died on the Death Star while fighting Vader so Luke could escape after rescuing Leia. The good guys are actually never seen aboard a Star Destroyer in the OT.
*_First,_* I am *_SICK AND EXHAUSTED TO HELL AND BACK_* of seeing: "DaY-uH, tHeY aLl DiEd On A dEaTh StAr", *_EVERYWHERE I LOOK!!!!_* *_Second,_* @dakkamemo1094, the way you worded your comment makes it seem like Plagueis killed Palpatine in his sleep, when *_PALPATINE KILLED PLAGUEIS IN HIS SLEEP!!!!_*
The way Palpatine twists Anakin's mind, manipulating his own fears against him, his own biases against the Jedi, etc... it's a masterclass in gaslighting. It's incredible to watch. And yes... it really can be done that quickly, especially if the audience is already receptive. Anakin has always felt held back... he just required the tiniest of nudges in the right direction. Palpatine gave him just the smallest little directions and Anakin did all the rest. It's very well written.
Palpatine also has the better part of 15 years to subtly manipulate Anakin and slightly nudge him. From the moment he learned Anakin was the chosen one he started grooming him.
The last half of the movie, you see Anakin fall in a way that is truly tragic. He falls to all of his old insecurities and fears. Sidious basically consumes him and pushes all hope out of him. He is the child again, seeing a future where the person he loves most die again. He's never learned how to love without fear, and when that fear is pushed as far as it will go, it becomes possessive and clinging. Instead of listening to what actually will save her, he focuses too much on his power being enough. That he alone can fix everything that's wrong.
25:19 That may not be true. The Sith survived in secret because of the "rule of two" where only a master and apprentice exist at a time. The twisted way the rule was maintained is that the apprentice gets strong (or cunning) enough to murder their master and take their own student. At least one Sith that I'm aware of was even proud to have been killed. That said, I've heard sources say that Palpatine was arrogant enough to decide the cycle would end with him, though. (And he was kinda right to tbh). Then again, why take an apprentice at all if he didn't want them to surpass him someday.
Well yes, that's why he replaced Dooku, who was highly ambitious and would certainly have continued the tradition of betrayal, with Anakin who did not have ambition and would not betray him.
The Reason why C3PO is so shiny is because Anikin gave C3PO to Padme since he is not allowed to have possessions except for only his Lightsaber and since Padme is very high status, she gave C3PO the highest quality Metal coating a droid could get as a token of her love for Anikin
This is my favorite Star Wars movie in the "Skywalker Saga". After this film would be a good time to watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ (6 episodes) to see how Obi-Wan deals with PTSD from the events of this film. You may also want to watch Rogue One before moving on to the sequel trilogy since the events of Rogue One are directly related to the events of Episode 4: A New Hope which you have already seen. As always, thanks for your wonderful reactions.
I’d argue for Solo as well, I really enjoy the movie. I’d suggest having a look at Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and Rebels, but it’s a LOT of Star Wars to consume.
@@mattperiolat I also enjoyed Solo: A Star Wars Story very much. From a timeline perspective it would come after the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and before Rogue One. I've tried multiple times to get into the animated series but have never gotten past the first season of The Clone Wars. Although the animation is very well done, it seems to be targeted for a younger demographic than the live action series. A lot of good narratives and important characters are introduced in the animated series though. You're right, there is a LOT of Star Wars content to consume, including video game narratives, comic book series and novels of the E.U. One could spend a lifetime in the galaxy far, far away.
@@mattperiolat Idk about Solo because of who comes in at the ending. If you haven't seen the clone wars, that character being back would be very confusing
@@tofersiefken while the earlier seasons were good, it really hits it’s stride around Season 4. The last half of Season 6 and all of Season 7 is some of the best Star Wars content ever made, IMO. I would suggest powering through the Seasons 1-3, which have some good story telling, to get to the later seasons. It will be well worth it. There are some amazing characters that come out of this series, some of which we see again in Rebels, and also in live action.
I don’t know if you plan on watching any more Star Wars content. But if you do want to, I would recommend watching the Clone Wars series. And after, maybe Rebels and The Mandalorian. The sequel trilogy, Boba Fett’s series, and Kenobi etc. went against canon in so many ways and fail to capture the magic of George Lucas’s story. Lucas created the 6 movies you saw. And the concept of The Clone Wars too. But Disney’s new management of his company destroyed much of the IP when they acquired it from him ten years ago.
Fun fact about R2s abilities, they were actually enhanced for a special mission in an episode of the Clone Wars. So yes, R2 had enhanced abilities during this movie! 😊
There are more. "Twice the pride, double the fall", "This is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause", "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy".
Nick Gillard, who was stunt co-ordinator on the prequels stated in an interview that the younglings sequence was much longer & far more disturbing than we see in the final cut of the film. Upon seeing the dailies George Lucas just went ‘Oh god’ in horror of how brutal it was. All that remains of the sequence is what’s seen in the security footage Obi Wan watches.
Palpatine is telling Anakin exactly what he wants to hear, but the funny thing is that he doesn't really need to lie to him, most of what he tells him is true, manipulative as he can be. The jedi kinda dug their own grave by this point
This is low key my favorite Star Wars movie. I actually saw the Clone Wars TV show before it, so for me, it was even more painful, since I had grown to know and love those characters for the 6 seasons that were out by then. But this honestly is a wonderful movie. So dark, depressing and yet also hopeful. Anakin is a great tragic villain, Palpatine has about the most well written evil plan in any movie, and the ending is both emotional and amazing.
Love how Windu is like "I sense the dark side surrounds the chancellor." Yet does absolutely nothing about it lol. Then Anakin tells him that he's a Sith Lord and now suddenly Windu is like WHAT? I'M SO SURPRISED!
There are always 2, a master and an apprentice. Him being surprised is of the Chancellor being the master, not him being a Sith. If you listen to the dialogue again you will notice how Windu puts emphasis on Lord as in he was not expecting Palpatine to be the master. With that said, Windu acted against Palpatine without counseling the other masters, acting on his own emotions against the Chancellor, which is the reaction Palpatine fully expected from Windu. It was the last chess move he needed to turn the Republic into the first Galactic Empire, as he's able to manipulate the public into thinking the Jedi have tried to usurp the Chancellor's powers as their own. Anyway, he wasn't surprised about Palpatine being a Sith, rather him being a Sith Lord, which is considerably more dangerous.
The thing is Windu comes from a planet that was once enslaved by the Sith Empire so he has to struggle not to be on The Dark Side even more than most Jedi plus he has an outdatedly idealistic view of the Old Republic as he grew up when they were developing into an intergalactic powerhouse of diplomacy and social justice.
Hate leads to the dark side. Peacefulness, calmness, the joy you bring to others with your reactions these to the light lead you. Stay well, thanks for a top reaction to a top movie.
I like the one in The Last Jedi, between Kylo/Rey and the red guards. So well made. I don’t know if it’s my favorite but really like that one. Oh, and the lightsaber battle in Episode Ii, in the arena; also great.
The thing I actually love about this prequel series is how it shows that love and obsession are two completely different things. Anakin was obsessed with Padme, which he perceived as love...but wasn't .
I love the climactic lightsaber duel on Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan. The music, the fight choreography, the special effects and the audio design were also top notch and hold up really well. It's supremely more tense than any of the other lightsaber duels.
Even the little details like their clothing gradually getting more and more burned, not something you would notice when you’re caught up in the drama and tension, but when you see Obi-Wan sat with Yoda and Organa, his clothing is charred. They didn’t have to add that detail, but they did it anyway.
@@CoffeeMatt10 It's that little detail that drives it home that Obi-Wan just concluded a physically and mentally taxing duel on a volcanic planet against his protege, whom he thought of as his brother.
31:07 I've watched this movie countless times, including many reactions, and I've never heard Anakin's burning compared to a Jedi funeral, but you're absolutely right. That's very insightful of you.
When Palpatine tell the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, he tells it is if it were a Sith Ledged, a story passed between eras, but this is not the case. Darth Plagueis was Palpatine's own master, just as he was Dooku's. When Palpatine mentions that his apprentice hilled him in his sleep, this is not simply a tall tale he spun, he is recalling actual events of him usurping and killing his own master to become "The Sith Master" (as this was the way of the Sith, where the apprentice must usurp and defeat their master, and by doing this, the next generation of Sith will always be stronger than the last.)
It was the way of the sith for the student to usurp and defeat their master, yes, but they were supposed to be able to actually defeat in combat them so each generation of sith was stronger, not kill your master in their sleep like a weakling coward. I doubt Darth Bane would be very impressed with Palpatine.
21:05 That's actually George Lucas' son. You held it together a lot better than I did. You didn't start crying until the immolation scene. The first several times I saw this movie I was bawling through Order 66 and "Anakin, you're breaking my heart." (I was a hormonal teenage girl - give me a break.) By the time it got to the immolation scene I was just drained. My favorite musical moment in all of Star Wars is the beautiful transition from the funeral theme to Darth Vader's theme overlooking the Death Star. And it's not on the soundtrack. Nearly 20 years later I'm still irked about that. Disney even released remastered versions of the prequel soundtracks a couple years ago and it's STILL not on it.
Honestly my badass girl Padme was sadly reduced to "plot point" in this film :/ She's been in this fight so long! She shot her way to get her palace back! she fought with the jedi in the genosis arena! she deserved better!
20:45 Fun Fact: Since the lightsaber blade is created in post production, there was nothing for this little boy to react to, so when Hayden (Anakin) moved his hand and "activated" the lightsaber, he actually yelled "BOO!!" to scare the kid so he would have a frightened reaction.
You have options on what to watch next in Star Wars, but going straight into Obi-Wan would be my suggestion. It’s the newest thing, but the most closely connected directly to this movie.
Rocket thrusters were twin devices that allowed R2 series astromech droids to fly through the air. R2-D2 was equipped with such boosters, and he put them to good use throughout the Clone Wars. However, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, R2-D2's boosters had not worked in ages, and his warranty was long expired, having been damaged at some point after the Clone Wars.
The next one to watch, timeline-wise, would be the 6-episode series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The story takes place 8 [EDIT 10] years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Then, after that would be the movie Rogue One, which takes place right before the events of A New Hope.
6:45 - Holy shit, Grievous cleared his throat before talking to Palpatine, to not seem weak. I just noticed the cough sounds really deliberate. This film really had a lot of thought put into it.
One of the many reasons I think newbies should start with Episode 1 and not Episode 4 is because when you watch them in release order, as opposed to episode order (the way Lucas intends for them to be watched), you end up thinking things like "Did R2D2 suddenly get new powers?" No, R2 didn't get new powers. What happened is nobody ever reloads R2 throughout the series. R2 can fly in Attack of the Clones, but he uses up the last of his jet fuel in this movie when he dumps it on the battle droids. If you watch them in episode order, then you see R2 slowly degrading and nobody maintaining him properly throughout the series. It's like how some fanboys complain that Chewbacca showing up in this movie is "fan service" and "doesn't make sense." But if you watch them in order, and don't come in with preconcieved notions, then what happens is you see a young Chewbacca fighting alongside the Jedi, and then in the next movie you see that Chewbacca -- who knows and trusts Jedis, because he fought alongside them -- is the one who takes Obi-Wan to meet Han Solo.
Thank you! I saw the originals in the theaters and was a massive fan. Then I saw the prequels and loved them as well. I defended them at every turn. Anakin's story is so powerful and sad when watched in order and his redemption in ROTJ is awesome. Everyone knows the "I am your father" line by now and I can assure you that coming out of the theater after watching TESB as a 5 year old, all I could think and talk about was what's going to happen to Han Solo and not the "revelation."
Great emotional reaction. I will admit this movie got to me as well when I watched it years ago. Although you have not seen the last 3 movies yet you could certainly watch the Kenobi series that just came out. Rogue one is another great movie that covers the story of how the rebellion obtained the Death star plans.
Revenge Of The Sith....this movie is my absolute favorite out of the prequels, for many reasons. The biggest is that big 2 for the price of 1 climactic lightsaber duel montage. Seeing Yoda clash with Emperor Palpatine on Coruscant at the same time Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting on Mustafar is emotional and awesome. I love the way the music ties the two duels together, on top of the killer visual effects, sound effects, fight choreography and dialogue? They all make it a grand feast for the eyes and ears.
18:43 Also that is the Emperor's true form. Channeling the dark side continuously corrupts the body and causes premature aging. Up to that point he was casting some sort of illusion to conceal his real appearance. I think he made himself a mask through sith alchemy that deteriorated when Windu reflected his lightning back at him
Still one of my best favourite star wars movie . I mean i know it wasn't considered a great job in terms of filmmaking , but my decision is clouded by a fan and star wars geek /Nerd from the comics . So this was for me the most important and probably so sad and emotional nostalgic movie . This movie can be said he journey of Anakin Skywalker From THE CHOSEN ONE to THE DARK SIDE. I was having mixed emotions, Anakin and Padme dieing but birth of the most Legendary cold badass villian of all times Vader . Loved your reaction . Btw suggestion React to **"Obi wan Kenobi The series"** which premiered just before few weeks so that you can have a proper chronological order to all the hidden stories in between the movies .
The scene where the chancellor tells Anacin how Darth Plagueis discovered how to manipulate midi-chlorians to create life then taught his apprentice everything he knows. The chancellor was telling Anacin that he is basically his father. If you remember from episode 1 Anacins mother said there was no father. She became pregnant, carried the baby and gave birth. Also, at the end of Ep 3 they said to wipe 3po's drives but not R2's which is why i Ep$ R2 said his old master was Obi-wan Kenobi but 3Po did not know who he was.
Basically, Anakin loses an arm, loses his legs, gets serious burns all over his head and his legless body on a Hellish volcano planet, and still somehow manages to live, while Padmé dies in childbirth from a broken heart.
Now you only need to watch .... - Darth Maul Apprentice - Fan made short film, but is good to see Darth maul backstory - Star wars clone wars series - Follow Obi-wan, Anakin, and Anakin's padawan Ahsoka Tano during clone wars after Episode 2 and along side this movie. - Solo A star wars story - Han Solo, Chewbacca, millennium falcon, etc. back story - Obi-wan series - Obi-wan , Luke and Leia as children, 10 years before a new hope - Star wars Rebels series - more back story after this movie and A new hope - Rogue one A star wars story - Rebels, Death star plans etc. Leads right up to a new hope. - Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined - FAN MADE DARTH VADER OBI-WAN fight again , WORTH WATCHING - The Mandalorian series- BABY YODA, actually its Grogu. Wow, such a great reaction! You're in time to see the Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+. Despite their flaws, the prequels hold such a special place in my heart cause they're the Star Wars films of my generation. I still remember going to see the Episode III in full cosplay with my dad when I was just 5-6 years old (him as Obi-Wan and me as a youngling hehe). Greetings from the Dominican Republic
Palpatine is obviously evil, but you have to admit, his abilities to strategize and manipulate are unparalleled. The mere fact that he was able to do this much without anyone on the Jedi Council sensing anything through the Force is just mind blowing.
1:10 the Obi-Wan dismemberments continue here, here 13:35 and here 30:21. 3:24 “Dewit!” 12:56 he said the thing 😂 and the rule is, any time someone greets you with “hello there” you MUST respond with “General Kenobi”. 20:01 “would you like a side of fries with that” 😂 26:21 and now begins the best lightsaber duel in the entire Star Wars saga… Hayden Christiansen and Ewan McGregor trained for days to get the choreography down to a T. 31:07 omg! The many times I’ve seen this, I never thought about that, but you’re right, this is the moment Anakin ceases to be and he is fully consumed by the Dark Side and becomes Vader. 32:23 of course it is… the theory is that Palpatine used the force and syphoned Padme’s lifeforce to keep Vader alive, that’s why she dies at about the same time Vader takes his first breath inside the mask. Also, it’s very faint but as the mask lowers onto his face, Vader says “help me, Padme”. 32:48 the little details - look at Obi-Wan’s clothes, the burns and charring. I wouldn’t have given a second thought if they weren’t, but again it’s those little details that make it that much better. 33:40 very perceptive again Addie. Also, the camera zooms in on the necklace that Anakin made for Padme back when they first met in Ep.I.
@@-EchoesIntoEternity- as old Ben once said "from a certain point of view" I'll have to agree I did have some criticisms but all in all it was enjoyable, reva was unnecessary tho
Some say Darth Sidious was already disfigured from using so much dark side magic and he was using Sith alchemy to disguise his true visage before the lightning breaks his illusory spell. As a master manipulator, Palpatine then uses his true face to bring Anakin under his sway and ensure his stories about the Jedi are considered gospel within Senate circles.
I found an alternate "history" video that had Mace Windu successfully kill Palpatine, and fall to the dark side in the process. He leads a couple against the Senate, and continues a lot of Palpatine's plans, just with Jedi instead of Inquisitors. I don't remember if Anakin still fell, or if he joined the Rebellion. Wish I could remember the channel...
@@WilliamMoses355 Mace was always extra sensitive to the dark side. Despite originally dismissing the idea of the Sith returning after a thousand years, he is still the first to sense the dark side around Palpatine and the only one to predict the plot to destroy the Jedi. I remember a video that explains the saber light colors and their meanings, and Windu's purple was meant to signify his acute sensitivity to it. That he was the one deciding what powers were too dark for Jedi use.
@@callmeshaggy5166 no lightsaber colour meanings are canon except for red, black and white. Also many people misunderstand his character and thinks he uses both the dark and light side which is false
@@williusmac891 It’s also more obvious to the reactors that watch the prequels first because don’t head into the prequels with a black and white view of the Jedi like most reactors do.
Couple movie recommendations, Hot Rod, Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (2005 movie with Martin Freeman), Dances with Wolves (if you watch that one you should watch the extended edition).
From here, definitely go straight into the Obi-Wan series... it's basically episode 3.5 in many ways. And keep the tissues around for the end. This movie is so good but also so sad. Order 66 is always hard to watch, and it's been shown from different angles many times now in other series and games and it never gets easier. The Clone Wars show does a great job of really humanizing the clones and giving them all unique characteristics and personalities and showing their relationships with the Jedi, and then explaining exactly why they turn and how that happened. The finale of that series is a 4 part arc that basically plays as a movie that takes place alongside Episode III. A couple of things to note regarding Palpatine: someone else already commented on this but when he told the story of Darth Plagueis, he was telling the story of his own master that he killed. He said that he had the power to manipulate the midichlorians to create life. There's a comic that shows that Palpatine manipulated the midichlorians to create Anakin, so in effect he is Anakin's father. I don't keep up with the comics that much and from what I've seen that may or may not be solid canon, but it's at least implied that it could be true. Also, there is a great fan theory that when Vader is being put in the suit and Padme is giving birth, that Palpatine was using the force to drain Padme's life force to keep Vader alive. There's not really anything official on that, but given his character it's definitely believable.
Well it IS solid canon. If you watch Ep.III with George Lucas` and Rick McCallum`s commentaries, you hear this truth about Anankin`s birth during the opera scene. It was G-canon even before the comic.
@@kagey-bee6316 OK, thanks. I seem to remember seeing something that suggested it was retconned somewhere in a book or comic but like I said I don't keep up with the books and comics as much and I can't remember where I saw that.
There are several other Star Wars stories to check out if you're interested, although these 6 movies are the core story. You could do the Clone Wars series if you want to watch things in release order, although it's a big investment (7 seasons, but definitely worth it). You could check out the sequel trilogy or you could watch Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Or you could watch the very popular Mandalorian series, or the brand new Obi Wan Kenobi series. There are other Star Wars movies and shows too, but it's better to watch these other stories first.
The thing you should know about the clones: they didn't have a choice, they have a chip in their head that controlled them so after Palpatine ordered them to kill Jedi by Order 66, they just simply stopped being themselves. Commander Cody (the one that Palpatine called via holocom) was actually great friends with Obi-Wan and wouldn't kill him by his own choice
Great reaction! 😊 I've been looking forward to this. This is my absolute favorite of the prequel trilogy. And definitely in my top 4 of all-time favorite "Star Wars" movies. I can't wait to see if you're going to watch the sequel trilogy. They're not as great as the other two trilogies. But worth the watch if you want to finish the "Star Wars" series. And there are also two standalone "Star Wars" movies: "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"(which is excellent) and "Solo: A Star Wars Story". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
I'm always fascinated how people react to this movies. Episode 3 was the first one which I watched in the theater with 9 years (not alone of course). I remember that I was never surprised about how things are going, but I did found the fighting of Obi an Anakin too long and to much. Weird in hindsight, because now I find it fitting. I also was stunt with excitement about this opening scene.
You'd probably really have a great time watching the Kenobi series on Disney+ after this, since it's basically the very next thing that happens in the series (in live action, at least.)
Best Star Wars movie for me. I like to watch a 5 hour edited version that incorporates the Siege of Mandalore (where Ahsoka, Anakin's apprentice was) was happening at the same time. It's perfect!
Personally, I feel the best viewing order is A New Hope, then Empire Strikes Back, then the prequel trilogy, and finally Return of the Jedi. I think the latter film is more satisfying after the prequels and some of the changes made to that film in recent years will make more sense. In any case, you're now ready to see what happens next with the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series on Disney+.
@@lordvalandil1672 Nope, I'm pretty sure that a Kenobi series taking place during Obi Wan's watch over Luke, wherein he would abandon his post and encounter Vader directly, would be a really bad idea. Thankfully, it never happened. I'm still looking forward to Episodes 7, 8, and 9 coming out eventually; it'll be good to see the conclusion George Lucas has planned.
I have just watched this movie and God, it absolutely destroyed me, I literally don't know what to do now 😂. I watched Attack of the Clones so happily and then this movie happened. A phenomenal movie but incredibly emotional, towards the end I couldn't stop crying. I feel like Anakin is such a heartbreaking character. He's felt pain, fear, loss and anger with his mother but now felt the same with Padme. He joined the dark side to save Padmé but ultimately it engulfed him. The fact that Anakin's human emotions ultimately turned him into something inhuman was such a brilliant contrast. He's definitely my favourite character, I'm so invested in him. When his legs come off and he gets burnt, I was like NOOOOO HIS GORGEOUS FACE UGHH 😩. And when Palpatine told Anakin that he had killed Padmé, that fucked me up, I was so mad! And he prob will never know what happened 😠. I love seeing Hayden as Anakin and Vader, they're just so synonymous to me and I hope we see more of him in the Star Wars universe.
Do you know what Hayden did to make that youngling flinch (in real life. The audio was cut out, of course)? Hayden yelled “Boo!” and played lightsabers when the scene was over.
One little known fact is that Palpatine actually uses the Force to transfer the life force from Padme to Anakin in order to keep Anakin alive long enough for surgery. That is part of the life saving power he was talking about that he learned from his Master, Darth Plagueis. Instead of using it to save Padme he used it to kill her while saving Anakin in true Sith style. Also, the movie "Rogue One" takes place right before A New Hope. It is about the retrieving of the plans to the Death Star, and the opening scene for A New Hope takes place immediately after if not during the last part of Rogue One.
I love how people claim this as fact when it is not canon……at all. So the theory says that Palpatine drained the life force out of Padme, and yet NEVER knew of the existence of Luke and Leia who were in the process of being birthed from her body and were force sensitive twins.
The final words Obi Wan speaks to Anakin are a great example of how great an actor Ewan McGregor is. You can clearly see the pain and heartbreak on his face as he said those words.
Great reactions Addie. Thanks for sharing your emotions and taking us with you on your Star Wars journey. Look forward to your Rogue One reaction. Cheers.
fyi, Darth Plaugeis was Palpatine's master. He was the one who killed him. And it was the night after he was elected Chancelor in Episode 1. Darth Plaguis was a Muun and the head of the Intergalatic banking clan that funded both the creation of the republic clone army and the separtist droid army. The muuns were an alien spiecea from a certain planet, forget its names, and the intergalatic banking clan was comprised of mostly all or part of the intergalatic banking clan. The Clone Wars TV show shows the Muuns of the Intergalatic Banking Clan. There is also a Darth Plaguis that has much info on Darth Plaguis and his recruitment of Palpatine. Notice Palpatine tells the story about Plaguis knowing how to use the midichlorians to create life. Aparently the manipulating of the midichlorians to create life was how Anakin was created, which is why if you recall in Episode 1 his mother said he had no father. That is why Anakin had such a high midichlorian count too, higher than Yoda. Remeber the blood test he was given. It was either Plaguis and Palpatine together or Palpatine alone that created Anakin. Palpatine having learned this skill from Plaguis. Also, it may have been that Palpatine killed Padme. Using force drain, he drained Padme's life and used it to heal Anakin. In that sense Palpatine using the dark side to save Anakin from dying, but by taking another's life, just like the ability he described to Anakin, but you can see how the manner in which he did it was a dark side force power.
"In a way that was a Jedi funeral" Holy shit, 20 years of seeing this scene and I never though of it that way.
actually that is a parrallel that lucas drew there. ignoring the obiwan series (since it didnt exist when lucas made these) , obi wan never called him anakin again after he was burned on mustafar. it was the true death of anakin and the birth of vader.
Same! That was a really eye opening moment...
Same. Dozens of times watching this movie and I've probably watched a dozen youtubers react to this move. And her saying that was the first time that connection had been made for me.
I feel ashamed that I never noticed the comparison, and I saw ROTS in theaters, and at least once a year.
Exactly. Great insight by seeing classics through new eyes.
Anakin says: " His fate will be the same as ours ", as he rescues Palpatine and Obi-Wan. He was right. All three will die on a Death Star, killed by each other.
I always loved that little detail.

Hello there
Fun fact: the final duel between Anakin and Obi-wan was filmed without any frame rate or overclocking trickery. In the words of the stunt/fight coordinator: “They trained that hard and they are that fast.”
They worked so hard to make it flawless, and they did just that. The best duel in the entire saga for me.
The original title for Star Wars was " The Tragedy of Darth Vader. "
subtitle, I think.
Agreed
"The Tragedy of Darth Vader, the Chosen One."
I'm not sure if that connection was on George Lucas mind.

Interestingly, the next person to learn how to save the ones they love from Death was Anakins grandson, Kylo Ren. How about that.
Even George confirms that Sidious is the devil of Star Wars.
There's no shot Kylo ever achieved that type of power, the sequels are a unsalvageable dumpster fire, the only fix is to remove them from canon
@@benolofson9732 wait there are people who accept the new trilogy? LMAO!
Greetings from Poland 🖖😎
Palpatine did not implement the dreams of Padme's death, in my opinion he also foresaw the future and as he was very intelligent, he manipulated Anakin as he saw fit and for his needs😉
I agree with the rest, and have a nice day😎
That final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan is super intense. Stunt doubles were used for some parts, but Ewan and Hayden did most of lightsaber work. Some incredible dedication learning such complex choreography.
They also had to slow down the footage during editing, as Ewan & Hayden were so fast during the fight.
Now you’re sounding like a Sith…lol.
@@aaronking5640 did u totally miss the part where Anakin realises what he did was wrong so when he sees one of the 2 most powerful masters in the Jedi order betray the Jedi code he realised that neither the Jedi nor the sith can be trusted.
When??
@@Alysa-Aiday It's when Kenobi is leaving to go after General Grievous.
("You will not take her from me!")
It puts Anakin's/Vader's hatred for Obi-wan into perspective.
"In a way that was a Jedi funeral."
I've been obsessed with Star Wars since I was a toddler and never once did that cross my mind. That's the second thing I've heard that has blown my mind about scene like that in Star Wars. The other one being Luke throwing his lightsaber away after seeing how he and Vader were alike (via severed hand") being a direct callback to the cave in Empire when Yoda says "your weapons; you will not need them."
Some fun facts:
Palpatine's story about Darth Plagueis' killing him in his sleep: Palpatine _was_ that apprentice. It's covered will in the book "Plagueis" which takes place during the events of The Phantom Menace.
If you notice Anakin' line while trying to rescue Obi Wan in the beginning, "His fate will be the same as ours..."
Anakin, Palpatine, and Obi-Wan all died on a Death Star.
Wait? I could be wrong but, didn't Obi die on a star destroyer instead of a deathstar? Its been a while since I watched the movies so memory is a bit foggy.
@@rodew2875 no, he died on the Death Star while fighting Vader so Luke could escape after rescuing Leia.

During Padme's funeral procession, she is holding the necklace Anakin made her in Episode 1. 😪
The young Padawan who defended Bail Organa as he was leaving is Zett Jukassa. He was played by Jett Lucas, son of George Lucas.
I’ve been enjoying your Star Wars reactions. This movie hits even harder after watching The Clone Wars, Rebels, and now the Obi-Wan series.
When taunting Yoda he specifically says “…Lord Vader will become more powerful than either of us.”
Well yes, that's why he replaced Dooku, who was highly ambitious and would certainly have continued the tradition of betrayal, with Anakin who did not have ambition and would not betray him.
Everything points at this ending. I love how everything is tied together. The tension is real. The big finale of a great Saga.
There are some amazing characters that come out of this series, some of which we see again in Rebels, and also in live action.
id say Obi One-----> Rogue one
Solo is just solo if you want background information on him
I don’t know if you plan on watching any more Star Wars content.
There are two great quotes in this movie:
1)Obi-Wan Kenobi: ''Only a sith deals in absolutes.''
2) Master Yoda: ''If so powerful you are, why leave?''
There are no great quotes in this movie.
@@30noir There is no meaning to your life.
"You underestimate my power",
"If you are not with me, then you are my enemy" - Anakin
"He is too powerful to be kept alive" -Windu
There are more. "Twice the pride, double the fall", "This is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause", "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy".
I like the sheer, total irony of the first one. That statement in of itself is an absolute. Really shows how blinded the Jedi truly were.
What a galaxy, Dooku lost his head and Greivous had massive heartburn.
18:43
That’s Palpatine’s true appearance. He was using a Sith power known as “Force Clouding”, which masks their dark side.
Palpatine is telling Anakin exactly what he wants to hear, but the funny thing is that he doesn't really need to lie to him, most of what he tells him is true, manipulative as he can be. The jedi kinda dug their own grave by this point
It's fun to hear the same lines used in most if not all the films :
"Here's where the fun begins."
"I have a bad feeling about this."
Anakin:You turned her against me!
Obi wan:You have done that yourself!
Love how Windu is like "I sense the dark side surrounds the chancellor." Yet does absolutely nothing about it lol. Then Anakin tells him that he's a Sith Lord and now suddenly Windu is like WHAT? I'M SO SURPRISED!
Mace represents as the worst of the Jedi Order.
"A Sith Lord?"! Mate! It's been right there in front of your face!
Anyway, he wasn't surprised about Palpatine being a Sith, rather him being a Sith Lord, which is considerably more dangerous.
there is also a possibility that chancellor was manipulated by a dark side technique.
The thing is Windu comes from a planet that was once enslaved by the Sith Empire so he has to struggle not to be on The Dark Side even more than most Jedi plus he has an outdatedly idealistic view of the Old Republic as he grew up when they were developing into an intergalactic powerhouse of diplomacy and social justice.
i never thought about that parallel between the jedi funeral and anakin's "death". good spot

Hello there!
“Is this where the Wookiees are from?? I love their trees”
Yeah
So did the empire
Darth Maul was his apprentice before Dooku.
It was the way of the sith for the student to usurp and defeat their master, yes, but they were supposed to be able to actually defeat in combat them so each generation of sith was stronger, not kill your master in their sleep like a weakling coward. I doubt Darth Bane would be very impressed with Palpatine.
Easily the most heartbreaking Star Wars episode, Palpatine steals the show!
Considering what Anikin did in the last film I'm surprised Padme stayed with him. Now you have to ask yourself, how does Leia remember her mother?
Honestly my badass girl Padme was sadly reduced to "plot point" in this film :/
She's been in this fight so long! She shot her way to get her palace back! she fought with the jedi in the genosis arena!
she deserved better!
We’ve been looking forward to this!
im legitimately impressed how well you held back breaking down in tears! wow
Ian McDarmid is such a good actor imo. And palpatine a great character.
He’s an awesome character until ROS trash
Edit: Ian is a great actor, but the writing/decisions made for the character were trash
Its 10 years…. Literally says so at start of 1st episode

This is my favorite when I was 9 I’d watch it at my grandparents on vhs over and over and I had a crush on Anakin and cried every time I watched it.
I think he made himself a mask through sith alchemy that deteriorated when Windu reflected his lightning back at him
LOL that's a metaphor. Really, these people that think that Palpatine is _literally_ wearing a mask! 🤣
I still remember the collective chill that swept through the theater in 2005 when Vader took his first mechanical breath. Legendary moment.
Still one of my best favourite star wars movie . I mean i know it wasn't considered a great job in terms of filmmaking , but my decision is clouded by a fan and star wars geek /Nerd from the comics .
Now where do we go? Kenobi series? Solo? Rogue One?
Now you only need to watch ....
- Darth Maul Apprentice - Fan made short film, but is good to see Darth maul backstory
- Star wars clone wars series - Follow Obi-wan, Anakin, and Anakin's padawan Ahsoka Tano during clone wars after Episode 2 and along side this movie.
- Solo A star wars story - Han Solo, Chewbacca, millennium falcon, etc. back story
- Obi-wan series - Obi-wan , Luke and Leia as children, 10 years before a new hope
- Star wars Rebels series - more back story after this movie and A new hope
- Rogue one A star wars story - Rebels, Death star plans etc. Leads right up to a new hope.
- Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined - FAN MADE DARTH VADER OBI-WAN fight again , WORTH WATCHING
- The Mandalorian series- BABY YODA, actually its Grogu. Takes place after Episode 6 Return of the Jedi
- The book of Boba Fett- Boba Fett didn't die when he fell into the pit. Called The book of Boba Fett, wait is that Luke and Ahsoka... Lol
- Then The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker
Have fun. LOL
RIP James earl jones the voice of darth vader has passed away 😭
Palpatine is obviously evil, but you have to admit, his abilities to strategize and manipulate are unparalleled. The mere fact that he was able to do this much without anyone on the Jedi Council sensing anything through the Force is just mind blowing.
yeah and he did this shit for decades to get where he is now.
1:10 the Obi-Wan dismemberments continue here, here 13:35 and here 30:21.
3:24 “Dewit!”
12:56 he said the thing 😂 and the rule is, any time someone greets you with “hello there” you MUST respond with “General Kenobi”.
20:01 “would you like a side of fries with that” 😂
26:21 and now begins the best lightsaber duel in the entire Star Wars saga… Hayden Christiansen and Ewan McGregor trained for days to get the choreography down to a T.
The Kenobi series that recently came out ties it together really well. A lot of people were very critical but overall I enjoyed it.
it was hot trash
@@-EchoesIntoEternity- In your opinion maybe. To me it was the best thing since ROTS.
@@-EchoesIntoEternity- as old Ben once said "from a certain point of view" I'll have to agree I did have some criticisms but all in all it was enjoyable, reva was unnecessary tho
@@stimprim3945 No it's objectively badly written. You're just shilling. And because you keep shilling, Disney keeps pumping out dogs hit
@@thatperformer3879 Then stop watching lmao no one is forcing you to
Some say Darth Sidious was already disfigured from using so much dark side magic and he was using Sith alchemy to disguise his true visage before the lightning breaks his illusory spell. As a master manipulator, Palpatine then uses his true face to bring Anakin under his sway and ensure his stories about the Jedi are considered gospel within Senate circles.
So many reactors miss how the hypocrisy of the Jedi is one of the factors that drove Anakin to the dark side.
Also many people misunderstand his character and thinks he uses both the dark and light side which is false
tbf even tho I think it's also pretty clear in the movie, the clone wars really shows the hypocrisy of the jedi way more
@@williusmac891 It’s also more obvious to the reactors that watch the prequels first because don’t head into the prequels with a black and white view of the Jedi like most reactors do.
21:03 Fun Fact: This Jedi Padawan is played by George Lucas' son, Jett.
Hey Addie something that makes Obi-Wan cutting down Anakin sad is, Obi-Wan missed 😢
These have been by far my favorite Star Wars Reactions. I highly recommend seeing the Obi Wan Kenobi series next.
Couple movie recommendations, Hot Rod, Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (2005 movie with Martin Freeman), Dances with Wolves (if you watch that one you should watch the extended edition).
You ought to check out Rogue One. It's one of the best Star Wars movies ever made, and probably the only great one to be made by Disney.
10:50 Palentine was the apprentice btw if people didnt know
There are several other Star Wars stories to check out if you're interested, although these 6 movies are the core story.
I've been looking forward to this.
I do not know of this series, never heard of it. I don't think it exists.
Perhaps you meant the movie Rogue One?
The Kenobi series just came out on Disney plus, so brand new.
@@brucemaximus3797 Rogue One is also worth seeing.
2:37 you know DOOKU actor was a real life James Bond and inspiration for it?
So the theory says that Palpatine drained the life force out of Padme, and yet NEVER knew of the existence of Luke and Leia who were in the process of being birthed from her body and were force sensitive twins.
i never noticed the Death Star tables in Palatine's office before! Great catch, Addie! @14:33
Coruscant is a beautiful planet hope disney reminds it
The final words Obi Wan speaks to Anakin are a great example of how great an actor Ewan McGregor is.
