  • Today we will look into Making your own All Purpose or the Universal Soil Mix for Succulents and Cacti. This Recipe or the Formula works best in all seasons throughout the year including rainy season.
Before I start with the ingredients to make our All purpose Cactus Mix or Succulent Potting Mix, You need to remember one simple basic concept. Succulents need to be planted in a soil that holds enough water for them to absorb what they need but for a short duration of time and it should drain out quickly so the roots won’t rot. Hence Soil with the best drainage is crucial for succulent survival.
Now coming to the ingredients and proportions to make the best Potting Mixture for Succulents and cacti. You can use this mix for growing both indoor as well as outdoor succulents.
Watch Video for all propertions and ingredients of the ideal soil mix for succulents and cacti.
That was a short episode on the ideal DIY cactus or succulent mix. Please give me a thumbs up if you like the video. And also Share the video and comment something below the video. Happy Gardening!

I Have Portulacaria Afra before I don’t use any substrate I just used straight Garden soil for 3 years no problem with me .But last Couple of Months of May i used garden soil pebbles sand and perlite i see they don’t hold moisture for long time which is beneficial for succulents.A lot of people don’t agree with garden soil but to me it’s a Yes ,i just remember the basic don’t water your succulent if it still moist or wet water your succulent when it’s bone dry. Thanks for your wonderful video

Sir, if that’s ok and not much trouble, maybe you can advice me what fertilize I should use for the succulent plants and do I need to add iron, magnesium and/or calcium. So is what PH of the soil is preferable for succulents. Thank you in advance 🌷

    • @GardenTips

They need very less. U can give vermicompost which has all these nutrients and sufficient. If its flowering plants like kalanchoe adeniums, u need to fertilize organic like cowdung or Npk fertilizer once 15 days.

This has to be the best video explaining what to use and why or why not, I will Highly Recommend to all my groups. I recently bought coco coir after seeing several videos that used it as a base for Adenium seed germination, it may work in the desert but not here in Georgia (High Humidity spring & summer) and find out that it holds too much water, so now I will need to transplant them quicker into a mix using your recipe or if you have another recipe just for seed/seedlings, They did sprout in 3 days it's been 1 week today, can you do a video on Adenium from seed until 1 year old (should cover most of my questions) with detail on the right soil mix, how to water, cover or not to cover with plastic, sun, gro-lights, or shade and for how long, then transplanting after 1 month or when to, I still have seeds to plant, I'm just testing very few seeds to see what does work best here in my region but I can't keep buying different products and risk having problems later. Also, I would like your opinion on using these ingredients or substitutes- lava rocks/pebbles, chicken grit, pumice, perlite, pine bark or fir bark into the mix to help with drainage, I have different recipes for them all, it gets very confusing. Thank You Excellent Videos! It's A Rainy Night In Georgia!

Thanks. Adenium’s keep away from coco peat or coir. I have an old video on how to germinate Adenium seeds ruclips.net/video/CDMwe7SslnM/видео.html
But these were amazon bought Adenium seeds that never germinate. Now I have seed pods in my Adenium, will harvest fresh seeds and make a video of entire process. ,

Generally, this is very good advice, but cacti are very diverse, and some do well with higher levels of water and organic material. I learned this lesson trying to grow Pitahaya and another tropical cactus. They like a little more water, increased nutrients and can handle more organic soil.

Lately, I bought some from Holland but they are rotting real fast! I keep them outdoors. I live in Malaysia, hence our weather is humid with really wet monsoons.
