Hi Liz, I just reported trap drip spam bott that just slammed your comments. I loved every minute of this video, you have a healthy happy beautiful garden. Succulents are such a spunky plant, keep up the great work. I've used a similar master soil in commercial nurseries, they love it. All your tips are spot on, the big barky stuff that you sieved is far better than rocks or broken up pots as a filler or drainage in the bottom of pots, it's not encouraging root rot. And I'm a cheapie so love the tray sieve idea too. Thank you for sharing your loves with us, they're wonderful. 🧡💚💜

Hey Liz, I am a beginner and I love succulents. I am really disappointed on myself for killing my healthy and beautiful succulents inspite of doing the best for potting mixes. I am trying to save the rest in Indian summers. I loved your video and it's the best one I feel. I subscribed too. Please continue sharing more care tips, soil mixes, temperature requirements, etc. I totally loved this one and will redo my potting soil. Any tip on maintaining them in summer would great. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching and subscribing Umang. Growing succulents I find that they are sensitive to moisture level in the air or areas where there's high humidity, so a very dry soil mix would be better. If you're using the recipe for my Master Succulent Soil Mix, I would advice to add 50% more granite to this mix and only water once you see the bottom leaves start to dry up or become soft to the touch. Hope this helps. Cheers, Liz

I’m just curious what would be bad about using a hose to remove the old soil? Also why do you leave it for a few days after wetting soil? Is that so it dries out? If so then do you water it in after repotting since it’s now dry? I have so many questions lol you’re literally the succulent whisperer 🥰
You can either use a moisture tester or lift the pot to feel the weight or you can also tell by looking at the leaves. I just started a purely succulent channel called "Growing Succulents with LizK." @@LizKreate i have watched your todays video for granite and you said you are using the fine granite in your propagation mix. So is not just coco peat? Since i cannot find granite can i use lava powder. It contains minerals as well. If yes what is the composition? When yoy have the time I would love to see a video on your propagation method.
Thank you very much for sharing all your insight and experience! I'm hoping you might have time to answer one question. I've been unable to find pellet or granular Humic Acid that dissolves in the soil in a short time. The choices I have are granular Humic Acid that's for long-term soil treatment/activation or Liquid Humic Acid that acts very quickly. Which would you recommend?

I’m from Qld and can’t get granite like yours. I went to Bunnings and got decomposed granite but it looks very sandy with very few tiny rocks. Would this still be ok to use?
Please see link below for Mineraland products. They have MAIFAN STONE which is decomposed granite and also the gritty mix will also do. www.mineraland.com.au/products

Hi first time I found you on you tube and so glad I did your video was very informative! I live in Arizona where can I find the Coir peat brick-Coconut.....thank you!
Hi Isaac, I get mine from a hardware store and most plant nurseries do have them if not they might be able to get it in for you or maybe try online. Cheers, Liz
I had to rewatch this video this morning because I've been making my own decomposed granite LOL I told you I have a lot of granite around my house so I've been doing a lot of "mining" lately and smashing a lot of rocks so when I get bigger pieces of the granite I just wrap them up in a towel and smash them with a hammer . I really just wanted to see the size of the granite you put inside of the soil mixture. I've also been using a strainer to strain out the fine particles because even though it's a bigger grain of sand than beach sand it's still too fine. I made the mistake when I first started of using playground sand or sandbox sand in my soil and it basically just turned to cement and suffocated a lot of my plants. I also have my own compost we have an old horse manure pile that's well over 10 years old so the bottom of the pile has been worked through by worms and it is pure black gold!! after running boiling water through it and letting it dry up I've even put it up a few small small plants with just that compost and they are thriving. but keep in mind it's not just straight compost it's been there for so long that I can use it on its own. ❤️❤️❤️
You been a busy girl. I used to put some dried cow manure straight onto my soil mix. Only problem was the weeds/grass kept popping up but my succulents loved it.
Liz you should buy a concrete mixer. To mix your soil. I worked for a cactus succulent lady who made her own soil mix everything in a concrete tumbler .
I used to have a concrete mixer that I used for mixing my soil and cleaning my rocks. Someone gave it away on me...LOL Thanks again for watching and commenting Erinn. Cheers, Liz
Hi Liz. I live in Melbourne and i have been looking all around for any suppliers of decomposed granite. but to no avail. i bought some granitic sand and sieve the sand and washed the rest and found some small brown granite. i think only in your area that got those decomposed granite. you are very2 lucky in that case. any other alternative? tks
I'm working on a mix at the moment and I will upload the video on my 'Growing Succulents with LizK' channel. Thanks for watching and stay safe and healthy. Cheers, Liz
Hi, thanks for the video! I couldn’t find any perlite or normal cactus/succulent soil. All I could find was normal potting soil mixture, which at the very least had some perlite and coconut coir. I don’t have much to add to it but some rocks and pebbles that I have around my home. Will those rocks and small pebbles help when mixed with normal potting soil mixture? If so, how should I put them into my pot with the potting soil mixture? I have an Echeveria Perle von Nurnberg and a Aloe Mitriformis. The Echeveria is dying because it was overwatered when I bought it at the store, so I have it drying outside with no soil. But I’m afraid to add the normal potting soil mixture to it. Will those rocks and pebbles help the normal potting soil mixture when I repot my Echeveria? Many thanks!
For a Hen and Chicks succulent what would be the proper mix for it? Doing so well, but time to move it to a real pot (though that will be hard to do with the decorative pot it came in for Day of the Dead).
Any premium potting mix that's fast draining is ideal for this plant. Autumn through spring is their growing season and also perfect time for repotting.

Thanks for watching Beverly. I find that in growing succulents, one has to "Be mean to keep them keen." It means to not fuss over the succulent too much. Hi again Liz, I have looked for the other soil recipe videos on your channel but only find this one?? I am keen on learning about soil mixes for various uses for my succulents. Do you use this mix in the ground??????
Hi Honey Bee, Not all the time but I also use this in the ground depending on specific plants. I didn't get around to doing a specific video but intermediate recipe is in my video "TALK ABOUT SUCCULENTS PART 2 " at 13:47 of the video, and advance soil mix is 50%Master succulent soil mix + 50% granite which I think I also mention somewhere in this video.
Wow! Great video you have some beautiful succulents. Can I ask what is that plant at 0.22/13.01 growing on the rock with the amethyst? They look like green really fat and stubby gemstone points? I love the way they look!
Liz thank you for the easy teaching, I am starting growing succulents. I got all the ingredients for the master mix, I am lost on the part of the organic fertilizer pellet forms with seaweed, fish, manure and humic acid, can you tell me the name of the products. Thank you. The crush granite in bags you can get it from the improvement stores Garden.
This comment just showed up on my feed 6 months maybe too late. The product is SEAMUNGUS only available in Australia I believe. But you can also use other form of organic fertilizer. I get my granite locally.
Wonderful video... I am a novice and have collected in the past couple of months abt 50 succulents. I am afraid to use soil other than succulent mix with perlite. Not as confident as you.🌵

Cheers, Liz

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I’ve been so excited for this video!
Thank you Liz very informative
Got a new soil mix video on the other channel Alicia. Thanks.
fantastic information@! thank you Liz!
Very amazing soil have a blessed day
I’m just curious what would be bad about using a hose to remove the old soil? Also why do you leave it for a few days after wetting soil? Is that so it dries out? If so then do you water it in after repotting since it’s now dry? I have so many questions lol you’re literally the succulent whisperer 🥰
Hose pressure might be too much and soil gets dispersed everywhere. Leaving a few days to dry up helps prevent root rot.
Beautiful succulents
With granite chips around the succulent , how do we know when the soil is dry and it needs watering

Soil mix video!! Thanks Liz!! 😃😃
Hello Liz! Congratulations for your channel. Could you share with us your propagation soil mix?
I've tried a few propagation mix and the one I find works best for me is straight coconut peat or coco coir/peat. Hope this helps. Cheers, Liz
@@LizKreate thank you so much for your reply!! I will try it!
@@LizKreate i have watched your todays video for granite and you said you are using the fine granite in your propagation mix. So is not just coco peat? Since i cannot find granite can i use lava powder. It contains minerals as well. If yes what is the composition? When yoy have the time I would love to see a video on your propagation method.

I'm trying to change the soil from peat moss which it made my succulent root rot a lot when it dry.
Good luck. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Lovely colours..The tips are reddish.
Long term is better since most succulents only need a little fertilizer unless you want to grow them green and big fast.

I’m from Qld and can’t get granite like yours. I went to Bunnings and got decomposed granite but it looks very sandy with very few tiny rocks. Would this still be ok to use?
It should still be fine to use
You could use perlite

Cheers, Liz
Hi Liz. I live in Melbourne and i have been looking all around for any suppliers of decomposed granite. but to no avail. i bought some granitic sand and sieve the sand and washed the rest and found some small brown granite. i think only in your area that got those decomposed granite. you are very2 lucky in that case. any other alternative? tks

The major factor in killing succulents is over-watering. The plant will tell you when it needs a drink. Wishing you all the very best in your new venture. Cheers, Liz

This comment just showed up on my feed 6 months maybe too late. The product is SEAMUNGUS only available in Australia I believe. But you can also use other form of organic fertilizer. I get my granite locally.
