    Lyrics: L'Envol
    Le soir je m’imagine
    Rejoindre en plein vol
    La cohorte surnaturelle
    D’immenses oiseaux de paradis
    Voguant à l’unisson
    Sous des voûtes d’eaux placides
    Qui ondoient lentement
Dans le tumulte de la nuit
Seul avec mes souvenirs si chers
    L’âme enfin vibrante et libérée
    Bien loin
    Depuis toujours me portant peine
    Pour les vestiges
    D’un Ailleurs évanescent
    Et pour mes rêves éveillés

Alcest- I am always mesmerized. And I say this as an ardent Marduk fan.

"This music probably would have been really nice when I was taking the mushrooms the other day."
Well, that's an assessment I've never heard before in regards to metal. Kudos. 😁🤘

IMO, this is up there with one of my favourites of theirs. I've been following the band pretty much from the start (when they had three clips up on MySpace of 'Souvenirs d'un autre monde' before it was released), and I really loved their first couple of albums. The third album also had some songs that I totally adore. But, then, with Shelter, I began to fall off (though I love it in retrospect), and I didn't enjoy so much the previous two albums, especially 'Spiritual Instinct', which sounded more basic and less ethereal.
I'm a huge fan of this song, though, because it has the meandering, soft atmosphere of 'Souvenirs d'un autre monde' (my favourite album of theirs) mixed with a pinch of some later influences. I love how it tells a story... And that music video is the perfect accompaniment to the song.
I think Neige's vocals kick ass, BTW. There's no other vocalist like him. He sound so soft and warm. His black metal screams are fuckin' amazing, IMO. :P

I had a chance to talk to Neige at one festival. The majority of his music is inspired by his dreams and experiences. And man, doesn't their music always sound like a dream? It does!

Great song. They changed their sound again back to a Shelter sound. I love that about them. I would rather them change their sound even to something they did in the past than to keep going with the same album as they did just previously.

Okay, Neige is not the best clean vocalist in the planet but hes harsh vocals are legendary. This song really isn't the best way to introduce some one to Alcest. Speceally since i know you love the heavier part of metal and extreme metal. Alcest has cicles, Spitirual Instinct is their heavyest album, now they went back to the bright chill vibe of their first debut album. Is always like this, they release a soft album, a bit heavier one, then a reeeeally heavy one, and go back to soft.

Okay I'm in the minority here, but I thought this was such a beautiful song. The vocals felt aetherial and I feel that they fit in perfectly with the atmosphere. It might have been the video that really resonated me for some reason but I think the cohesion of the song is simply breathtaking. I felt the emotion throughout and couldn't stop the tears at the end. I hadn't heard of Alcest before, now I have to check them out.

@@APREACTS you should listen to more peste noire or lantlos/amesoeurs if u want more of neige's harsh black metal noise, dueil angoisseus/spleen by peste noire and troublr(eveils infames) by amesoeurs also, completely diferent sound than this alcest

@@hamishwallace73you are right. dueil angoisseus is the song neige had his best screaming even compared to the other black metal vocalist. It's feels like more hard.

Hmm. If you think of it more, just add subtitles, and this actually could be an end screen for some sort of animated series ( you know - the ones that you watch fully only when first time watching, and then keep skipping later on).
As for visual part, it's definitelly one-shot, even though it's artistically well made. In the end of the day that one part, where dynamics in animation change, would be a reason to come back to - ( or rather skip to that part on purpose ). If there's something this song can win by, is undoubtly audio itself, although i was thinking if this will end up bein' just instrumental.

If I were you I would re-listen to the song with the lyrics and with a translation. I feel like people who don't speak French might be missing out of a lot of it due to that.

The song that got me into this band was Sapphire from Spiritual instinct, i agree that this was a terrible song for a reaction. Neige said in an interview that it's more so chanting than singing, Spiritual instinct went in that direction it wasn't french but more like a made up language, personally the reason i like it is because it's different, i wouldn't say this song would be on my replay list though i feel like they've put out bet tracks than this.

It’s not different tho if you’d followed this band for years. This is not only what Alcest is about, it’s what I want from them. It harkens back to their older stuff. Spiritual Instinct was a one off as Neige was in a dark place and produced a darker album. This is what Alcest sound like.
If people want regular heavy metal there are plenty of other bands around.
