Sori, Black Metal is, and should be hypnotic. That´s what people search on this type of music, and this is what they get. A wall of sound which revolves around of you and traps you. A trance, a bridge that links your material existence with your essence. An inner dialog between the consciousness and the subconscious mind. The flowering of our deepest questions and fears, which haven´t got an actual answer, as "Exercises in Futility I" suggests.

I don't feel that way with Mgla or BM in general but I know what you mean
Burzum- Dunkelheit makes me feel that. Fucking amazing song.
If anyone has suggestions for more BM in the same vein as that song I'll check some stuff out.
I like that Varg made the vocals more subtle, one thing I don't like about BM is how the vocals are EQed way too high and feel like they're randomly dispersed on the track In post. They sit on top of the track instead of playing with it a lot of the time ends up fucking up the otherwise sick instrumentals.
PS: This obviously isn't the case with this Mgla reaction vid, vocals sound pretty tasteful in this track (for BM at least.)

    my take on the lyrics....
    lyrics:
The great truth is there isn't one
And it only gets worse since that conclusion
The irony of being an extension to nothing
And the force of inertia is now a vital factor
    my opinion:
For me it means, that after realizing that there is no final destination or thruth for a human beeing or humanity, it got worse because people around you still havent realized it after 1000 of years of existence. and the extension of them seeking for a nonexisting thruth is the irony of them seeking and their futile existence itself, because it leads of them achieving nothing in their lifespan on this planet.
force of inertia is a contrdiction since inertia is the resistance to the amount of force needed for an object to move... maybe because the intertia is getting stronger at the same pace the force is beeing pushed a dilemma of all religions but they need both a strong interia and force to survive.
    lyrics
And there is despair underneath each and every action
Each and every attempt to pierce the armour of numbness
Burning bridges becomes a habit to support
And the front line expands like there's no tomorrow
    my opinion
the desperation of each action, of every human on this planet is futile since there is no real purpose other then the purpose of existing and the sadness behind that we are only a machine of our useless existence. every attempt we try to pierce through this thruth is numb and nonesense.
it is numb cause we dont feel it in out everyday life, these attempts, because our armor made of thought for reasons of existence and our own self preserving and survival is so thick that it does not make us feel.
all this reasoning becomes to much a habit of our whole life that we keep supporting it even though we burn right from the start we are born. the whole humanity is the burning bridge and each human is a wooden blank, that will exstent it further and faster then it can burn down. the frontline is the attempts we try to uphold that bridge and ressources we use, since it is growing in a unknown direction and we try to plan the bridge ahead to see something after our death and too see something after we faded away.
    lyrics
    I envy the maggots
Their stuff at least sticks together
Better than laudations of misinformed seers
And those are lengthy annals of shame that we work with
    my opinion
we can envy the lowest forms of life because they stick to their own kind in physical and psychological way. they dont try to change other beeing through their force and attempts
they also wont force change through the things they leave behind, like buildings ect. but keep the circle of life in balance. they consume themselfs and consume what they leave behind but we spit our out words out and leave a trail of nonsense and infect others with them.
with our leaders who praise wrong ideas and thus leave behind new generations who are blind from the beginning. with written words as leftowers for new ones to come to pick up the ideas we had but realize them to be shameful the moment we die.
    lyrics
It's like dumping dead meat at the brink of Styx
With a barge that we made of what was left of Yggdrasil
After veterans of spiritual revolts were done with their armchairs
And I don't even remember which brink is which
    my opinion
we try to fill the gap between life and death. too see something after dead, to cheat dead and search for immortality. a life after death is for me the same and its arrogant. to fill the whole river with corpses of ideas, and dead people to ignore the rules of life and death.
and use our arrogance to build something out of our own heritage and what was left of people befor us, to float above others and feel better and more important.
people who hoped for change and saw the same things happened befor us were put to silence. and we dont even know where all the things started, why and what connects with what, since all religions and ideas are a labyrinth of roots that entangles and holds itself together.
    lyrics
The odour of sanctity is just refined stench of existence
Shining pearl of Augeas' crown pales in comparison
    my opinion
the feeling of beeing at home is just a false security and hides the reality. its just a helpless attempt of protecting yourself and give a warmth to the cold world and the reality that everything around us is nothing. family, friends, religions, hope is only a upgraded variant of life. and the odour that bait us everyday to flee from the reality is nothing else then a parfume on our body that give us a false premise of existence.
and still after parfume and everything we try its still dirty and ugly. using augeas filthy kingdom fuul of cattles to strnegthen that argument. shining pearl is a false premise.
we think we are pure and clean in our eyes and crown ourself as the highest form of life and think us as kings even if our kingdom is dirty and futile
    lyrics
The grotesque eagles of misfortune, well fed on thanatos, sit still
It's the dignity of scavengers at the ever growing garbage dump of life
    my opinion
we try to cheat death and refuse to let it take a hold on us more and more and longer and longer. humans are the eagles who are grotesque creatures but can be noble too and we feed on death itself and what it holds. we feed on the premise of an afterlife and use death as a instrument for people to believe in something. thanatos itself was cruel and cold but honest and we try to erase honesty cause it hurts us and our feelings. we want to ignore the brutal things and dont want to accept that we will be dust too, one day.
so better we sit on that corpse of the death and feed on it. deaths corpse is endless so we can feed forever. we grow lazy and are becoming dirty even tho we are creature who have the ability to achieve more and are can go to many places like an eagly but rather sit still then looking for new ideas, when we already have enough ideas we can feed upon. why bother the effort?
so we can thank the few people who are not ashamed to see what we are and try to clear the dirt we leave behind and find reason inside the every growing ideas and shit we produce in physical and psychological form. them try to erase the garbage we leave behind and dont feed on it rather recycle whats usefull.
    lyrics
There is something about the rigid posture of a proper, authentic blind
As if the extended arms reached to pass his blindness onto others
    my opinion
we are drawn to statues, we are drawn to figures. motionlessness draws our attention, maybe we try to give life to it or try to change it or seek somethning inside. we underestimate the powers of words and look to much around us what moves and try to avoid it but forget about the true danger of silent things. we will accidently land in their grasp or because we are blind to the truth it is only a matter of time till we are completely ignorant to everything ourselfs. maybe we happily accept blindness and misinterpret open arms of ideas when in reality only nothingness and lies lay behind it and grow blind ourselfs but then stretch our arms in hope to grab something or someones hope and change it to your own useless existence and purpose. we constantly try to deceit others and dont even know we are already blind long ago but we makes us look like, we need help even tho we dont, just that we can infect others with our useless shit.
Im sorry for the many mistakes. english is my secondary language and its not easy to express deeper thoughts in it, without seound repetitive or strange. i tried as much as i could but im pretty sleepy right now and my back hurts a lot.
i dont claim any thruth since i happily admit that sometimes i try to give comfort for my egosistic self and views. just like my ideas spin out of maybe attempts to change the views of others.
noneless i wanted to express myself, for my own benefit? maybe idnk.
wish you all a good night. and maybe someone takes the time to read it and can identify or find it pure boring nonesense. both are a good conclusion not?:)

I am glad you finally did Mgła (I refuse to write it without the charming Polish "ł") again!
And I am also glad that I was one of the first pain-in-the-ass followers to request them on your Facebook. It seems like it blew Vin away exactly as I thought. :D
These particular lyrics are their concept in a nutshell.
The way they built the words in this is also a peculiar point, mixing a mature view of nihilism with some metaphoric narrative "backgrounded" with Greek and Norse Mythology.
Take the "Styx" and "Yggdrasil" reference, for instance. Styx in one of the rivers of the underworld in Greek mythology, the one where Charon conduces its boat to take the souls to Hades realm - it means: Death. And in their song this river is being navigated by a barge made with the rest of Yggdrasil, which is the Tree of Life in Viking/Norse mythology.
I interprete it as: life is pointless and the remains of the thing that originated it is now being used to roam towards the one inevitable path: Death. I may be wrong, but surely is something in this way.
And, to Sori, I think that it is "repetitive" because the main point of Black Metal is to be hypnotic and almost mantra-like. Few bands, of any genre, can be able to manipulate such few riffs and build a melody and also an harmony that is so powerful that sounds like a tsunami of darkness coming for you like Mgła does.
Darkside makes a superb work in his kit, his dexterity with the cymbals is quite unique. Monolithic riffs by mister M. complete the astonishing opus of these Poles.

Clearly, Vin love hearing himself talking. As usual, especially in this video, according to my studies, Vin delivers a great speech about morality, even though he don't know what he's talking about, and continues to assume that a does. It is a reaction channel, no doubt, but when the song is over, it's preech time about christianity, in a direct way or a disguised one. And if Sory continues to agree about literally everything that comes out of Vin's mouth, he will feel even more empowered.

I think it's a bit odd to say that there is nothing restricting you of doing bad things to people if there is no higher purpose, if everything in the end is nothingness. And I don't think that in itself is anything negative either, why can't we just enjoy the ride even though the way of things would be like that? I think the buddhist say that the most natural state of existance is nothingness, and there is no inherent sadness in that.

    • @levischorpioen
      @levischorpioen 5 лет назад +9

Vin has a reputation of confusing "truth" (meaning an inherent meaning of life that's rewarded beyond life itself) with "truth" (the universal concept that's the opposite of falsehood). He seems to think nihilists believe in the Matrix, that there truly is absolutely nothing and everything ever is but an illusion. It's funny to me how he clearly resonates with the intelligent lyrics, but seems to have absolutely zero understanding of the concepts described in them.

@@aramkaizer7903 I know aaaall about presuppositionalist apologetics. If you want to have a very nerdy epistemological and philosophical argument and don't care to read a shit-ton, then proceed. Here's my response to presuppositional apologetics. Let me know if something isn't clear.
      1. For one thing, someone can just flatly state the following: "There is a force out there in the universe that bestows to me and everyone else ultimate truth. It isn't conscious, and therefor isn't a god. It reveals truth to us all in such a way that we can all be certain of it's existence. It also reveals to me, and everyone else that there is no god." Aaaand now, there's a problem. You have two competing platforms, one is presuppositionally atheistic and one is presuppositionally theistic. You may say "oh, but presuppositionalist atheism is obviously made up, just so you could knock down presuppositional apologetic arguments!" And then I could just come back with, "No. And who are you to know what's true and what isn't? After all, you can't know anything unless you adopt my worldview, by definition."
This next point I wrote as a response to the actual video. I've copied and pasted it all over the comments section to highlight another problem with presuppositional apologetics, but I think it was pretty thorough, so I'm posting it here:
      2. "while I understand where you're getting your argument about how all philosophical worldviews presuppose a truth, you are however appealing to a definition of truth that is different than what a lot of philosophical worldviews disagree with. Truth is that which corresponds to reality, in most secular worldviews. Awesome album, you can be a futilist in your world view recognizing the day to day theater and self deception is pointless and leads to nothing while holding a great sense of purpose as to his union with God. its primarily to set it's contrast between conscious and unconscious.
It's the death of the unauthentic self which man lives the majority of his life in, when you do away with the script there is no need to prop up the ego construct with its mindless actions and brings the authentic self in line with reality/truth or a metaphoric death and resurrection.

Vin, why are you acting like there are objective implications of nihilism? When you don't believe in anything, everything is up for personal interpretation so there can't logically be any objective implications. Acting as if your interpretation of it is the truest one is intellectually dishonest. Not everything is all dark and spoopy all the time. The universe is not a cold dark place, and the liberation from binding worldviews can be a beautiful reason to celebrate and live with joy. I'm not even a nihilist but turning it into a boogieman is absolutely ridiculous.

@@bjrnarbjrnarsson5845 It is however a noteworthy idea because Vin brings it up a lot in a lot of videos. It's a recurring thing for him. It also reeks of hypocrisy because, as Vin has also said in many videos (the Theatre Of Tragedy one comes to mind as an example) that if you want to know what someone actually believes you should ask someone belonging to that group of believers. Why then, in this one case, does Vin project his thoughts unto nihilists instead of letting them express their autonomous views? Vin seems to exclusively talk about the nihilism that he agrees with - as if to invalidate the takes on nihilism that don't line up with his. I don't get why nihilism is such an issue for him but he comes across as unwilling to listen to them while simultaneously demanding that everyone should listen to his take on the issue - a person who by his own admittance has never been a nihilist. He tells people to read the bible to have a nuanced debate with Christians, but won't have a nuanced discussion of nihilism. Simply put, Vin is a stooge ass fuckboy.

    • @eymophilia4952
      @eymophilia4952 5 лет назад +3

Having faith in what you say isn't a problem at all, measured hubris isn't a problem if it's not biased by a systemic way of thinking. Since the beginning of this channel, Vin wants us to nuanced the christian clichés, and i agree with him on that. The problem is that his opinions aren't nuanced at all, due to his perpetual opinions. He doesn't let Sory talk that much, that's gently demagogic. You can say thoughtful things without having the honest intention of requestioning your own beliefs. And since he is a biblical Christians, Vin will never revisit his hubris, because he assumes he's right.

I know this is getting on to a month ago since you did this video, but I finally came to a point I listened again and again to it and decided I should say that this desire to wanting to be a part of a community, juxtaposed against the dismay of community and understanding has stemmed an incredible amount from literally decades of bullying that I have personally experience on all sorts of levels. I would consider myself a spiritual person today, in an omnist sort of way, but it is utterly maddening and crippling. I can't speak anything about the life experiences of the artist(s) here. I've always found it a strange thing, though, in my own life that people and people a part of communities pride themselves often of inclusion and bringing people together but then single handedly and right at the same moment push people away in a multitude of ways. Somehow I encountered it through peers and teachers in Bible schools, in public schools, and in workplaces, in a lot of other spectrums. I even witnessed it happening to others and it only pushed my morbid curiosity with the "why" even further. It was only when I grew further and further away and cared less and less about these places and organizations that I slowly began to realize he truth of how wrong they were about me and I began to garner some self-esteem that I feel like I really began to see things as they are and were. A lot of questions still remain. But in the end, a sort of pointless bullying was really what spurned these very similar feelings and thoughts in me that you were both discussing. Since then I have tackled and accomplished a lot of things that people always doubted me for, sometimes with my understanding that there was no serious basis to begin with. I might put this video on the healing experience level. The fact that you, as Christians, saw this, discussed this respectfully, and came to some very interesting conclusions was great to me. So, thank you! I'm hoping you do more MGLA in the future.

While I understand where you're getting your argument about how all philosophical worldviews presuppose a truth, you are however appealing to a definition of truth that is different than what a lot of philosophical worldviews disagree with. Truth is that which corresponds to reality, in most secular worldviews. And sure we can't objectively "know" anything to be true under that definition, due to the feedback loop that we perceive reality with our senses, and our senses are perceived to be true DUE to their comportment with reality (essentially, a circular argument, which is illogical), that's where a lot of philosophical worldviews ask the next question: What do we mean by "ultimate truth?" Because it appears as though ultimate truth can't exist, because it has never been demonstrated to. And even if we knew it, we wouldn't know that we knew it... of that makes sense.
The next problem with appealing to god as a source of ultimate truth is the fact that there are some 20,000 different denominations of Christianity who all claim to be true. Not to mention, all of the other religions that make this appeal. And sure, you can deny your senses and just flatly state that all of these denominations simply don't exist. Anyway, any Mgla video is good. Please check out some songs from "With Hearts Towards None" or just keep going through "Exercises.."

So, here's a question that I've been wondering about for quite awhile now: if God created the universe from himself, then what created God? And what created his creator? And so on, and so on ad infinitum? Anything that is something must have had a creator, right? Did God create himself? How is that any different from the universe creating itself out of nothingness? I might just be screaming into the void here, but I am genuinely curious as to what possible explanation could be offered.

Your line of thought is a fallacy. Time is inseparable from space and if God created the universe he also created time. Outside time, there is no past tense and no meta-creator. A mind, being trained to always think in terms of time, is unable to grasp this idea. A higher type of cognitive principle, one transcending the mind, is needed to tackle this problem.

The thing about killing is that in that perspective there is no reason to do it either. If you had a strong enough reason you would do it no matter if you believed in god or not.
