    No commentary about the drums? The difference between Darkside and other exponents of the genre is that he doesn´t focus only in the rhythmic aspect of the song structure, but the melody itself; He creates a second layer of melody which is there, but you have to focus on it for hearing. Both, drums and lyrics, are what made this band to sound so fresh nowadays.

    • @SelfPL
      @SelfPL 5 лет назад +14

      +1 The amazing drumming is what caught my attention first. It really is a step up from EIF, which was already incredible. Driving the music forward, adding syncopations to the melody and adding power with every fill and pushing everything further and further. His drumming is so incredibly expressive. Even as it is (probably) very technical, it doesn't aspire to come over this way. By far my favorite BM drummer these days.

      Yes ! Darkside is doing some insane stuff with his drumming. What he is doing with Kriegsmaschine is also crazy. More technical, maybe "colder" than what they do with Mgla, but also seriously impressive. You can tell it's him playing after only a few seconds.

    Yeah, gotta agree with Vin. In black metal, the wall of sound that trem picking makes is basically a cacophony of eerie sound that often is used as a canvas or backdrop to the other elements of the song (namely the vocals). Mgla does this exceptionally well.

    • @berserker8884
      @berserker8884 5 лет назад +10

      Yeah, not to mention that this is just the ground work, the pillar structure behind the music of BM. Its not like everything is just this, like Sori mistakenly thinks(she really doesn't get music over all, or does she?), but its the background wall of sound that carries the musical ideas.
      Then you have the Darkside's drumming which geniusly rises complexity in a very subtle way, but in a very powerful way just like the bass adds to the wholesomeness and warmth to the sound. You have amazing vocals as always and you have very memorable melodies and progressions on the front lines.
      Its a really great amazing song and Ive only listened to it three times. Mgla is the band which creates the nihilistic atmosphere better than all other, has melodic lines that on one hand motivate you and empower you but on the other suck your soul away, the tone is subtle, raw but the mix is still clear which again really helps with the atmosphere without sacrificing the production quality, which is very high for BM as always. Then we have the lyrics, which are some of the best poetry Ive ever read.
      I will always put Mgla on par with Opeth when it comes to musical and songwriting genius and Opeth is in my opinion up there as the perfect metal band.

    The way mgla write their guitar parts always blows my mind. The overtones of the harmony and the undertones of the dissonance work together to evoke a sense of hopeful melancholy, and the perfectly poetic nihilism in the lyrics is a thing of pure beauty. Fucking kings of mature Black Metal are back after 4 looooong years of unbearable hibernation!
    Every second was worth the wait! Their pale crown of nihilist majesty is kept over their haunting head.
    Everything that consolidated them as one-of-a-kind musical crafters is there: the detailed and fruitful usage of cymbals, "tsunamic" guitar riffs that delivers all the meaninglessness of our earthly journey in this scorched world and the lyrics... ah... the lyrics... these are a chapter by their own... for me, it is one of their best poetic approaches of their thematics.

    Powerful music. I very much align with Vin's interpretation of the lyrics, minus one point regarding the line "So that the hoax can proceed, ever sidewards." I understood this line to mean that the hoax of human existence follows a path neither forward (heaven/salvation) nor back (hell/damnation), but rather in an irrelevant direction that inevitably leads to nothingness. I can vouch for Vin's assertion that the lyrics of this song are the embodiment of a nihilistic world view void of faith. I think M's writing is a significant part of Mgła's reach, as I find his lyrics to be immediately and profoundly relatable, and believe many others feel the same.

    Lyrics :
    The stench of zeitgeist
    Is the incense of discarded shrines
    As the corpses put on powder and rouge
    So that the hoax can proceed
    Ever sidewards
    A cheaped out incarnation into a shopworn sarx
    The soul congeals into a grimy lump
    Substance of the world, dreary and pale
    At the feet of a spirit detached
    Between the grinder and the abattoir
    Such are the landscapes of grief
    Grayness and glitz
    Glitter and gehinnom
    Between tedium and fright
    Such is the song of the nether world
    The hissing of rats
    And the jarring chants of angels
    A sacrifice to the gutter gods
    Squandered redemption, misplaced grace
    As an ailing mole burrowing in Eden
    Living, breathing, downfall
    Between the grinder and the abattoir
    Such are the landscapes of grief
    Grayness and glitz
    Glitter and gehinnom
    Between tedium and fright
    Such is the song of the nether world
    The hissing of rats
    And the jarring chants of angels
    It's a land of sun gone down
    In a comical grandeur
    A sluggish danse macabre
    Hyenas waltzing about
    Would a new flood please finally come?
    A real rain and an assortment of plagues
    And when all is said and done
    Even the Devil won't care enough to spit in the mud

    Mgla are in my favorites.🤘 Good analysis of the song.
    When I was younger we were forced to go to church. I remember being really religious in the Christian sense but I kept having questions that no one wanted to answer(or could answer). Because it would force them to question their faith. As a kid I probably read the Bible more than the adults in your family so I noticed contradictions and such.
    I remember breaking down in my sophomore year of highschool because I couldn't keep ignoring things that I disagreed with. Friends didn't understand because they didn't come from a religious family. People just seem to not question things, no disrespect to them. I felt that I was somewhat disconnected from them so i would only go because it was somewhat of a family event. Plus I was a teenager.
    I feel that a lot of Black Metal guys were probably raised in a very religious or strict religious family. I feel that asking your child if they want to be a part of whatever religion you happen to be is more healthy than just forcing them. It just builds resentment. I don't hate Christians, and nihilism I don't believe in. I do hate those blind followers like Westboro Church or those people who say I'm going to Hell.
    Morals to me are more important to teach to my son because it's based on being a decent human being despite your religious affiliation or lack thereof. You can't force someone to believe or not to believe in something. Whatever path they choose is up to them.
    I'm more spiritual myself, I prefer to follow my heart as that tells me what's right. As a musician I see my purpose is making music people can relate to. (Also spreading good vibes when I go to a social gathering.) Because when I die they can still feel comfort or derive entertainment from it. Plus it makes me happy regardless. All the lil' things make me happy For me it's live life as you want, don't be terrible to others.

    Anyways, MGŁA is the shit bruh ! If it wasnt for them I wouldn’t have discovered yalls page, and if it wasnt for this upload, I wouldn’t be headbanging to this new joint today 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

    Ok, I’m really baffled that you haven’t covered anything from Kriegsmaschine yet. Minding how much you enjoy Mgla, one would expect the guys either from trve kvlt or underground would have requested something already - what gives? :)
    I would be really interested in hearing your take on The Other Death from Kriegsmaschine’s latest album, Apocalypticists. In my humble opinion, that track has some of the most profound lyrics M. has ever written.
    Cheers!

    My wife was exactly like her the first time she heard mgła and other black metal band she said to me oh its sound exactly the same all the time.
    To solve that problem i took her to a Mayhem show and the look she give me at the end of the show i knew exactly right at this moment she really begin understanding what was the Black metal since this show she is hook on Black metal.
    After Mayhem this yeas she saw Uada, Rotting Christ, Borknagar, Abigail williams ect ect and now like me she almost married to Black metal

    Black metal doesn't necessarily have a ton of guitar variance. It's not supposed to have a bunch of soloing and progress. It's meant to be bleak. Mgla layers and builds a lot. Plus Darkside is a freak on the drums.

    I always find it fascinating when people act as if there is no meaning without a god/gods. What meaning can be derived from the human struggle when you have a philosophical ball & chain telling you what to think? That isn't meaning - that is hopeless self defeat. Religion is abuse.

    • @timothymeysenburg9160
      @timothymeysenburg9160 5 лет назад

      I see what you're saying, but if the "meaning" or "purpose" isn't from a god, is it truly meaningful beyond the observers narrow experience? I am happy when something feels meaningful to me, but my existence isn't meaningful, so how does my perception of meaning in any way translate into the universe at large?

    • @benwebb4424
      @benwebb4424 5 лет назад

      @@timothymeysenburg9160 I would argue that you're looking at it backwards. It isn't that there is no meaning beyond the observer's narrow experience - because that implies your observation of the universe is the important part. I would argue that since the universe is measurable and real, and life is measurable and real, that we are being observed by everything and everyone around us. It would be extremely arrogant to say your observation is the only one worth considering.
      We are the meaning and it is our responsibility to the universe to make it the best observable universe for all things living in it and for future things that will live in it. We've already won. Of the billions of swimmers your dad shot in your mom's cooch you were the fastest. The genetic jackpot has been hit. Now we need to pay our good fortunes forward for the rest of the future universe. That is the meaning of existence.

    • @benwebb4424
      @benwebb4424 5 лет назад

      @@karljonson3287 I don't think it's comparable to Christianity at all. We can prove the universe is real because it's simply the name for the thing we exist within. It is not only observable and measurable, but also responsive. It doesn't require faith, and it doesn't have absurd old world fairy tales attached to it. If anything it's more comparable to atheistic Satanism without the pretentious imagery.
      This conversation is a testament my point. Take note, I am not making the argument that my perspective of the universe is the end all be all, the meaning I give it is 100% not the point. Rather I am saying we exist, and the universe and its inhabitants are responsive to our input. We both know this to be true because I made a statement, Timothy observed the statement and responded, I responded to Timothy, you observed my response, and then asked a question. I as an observer was only 1/3rd of the feedback loop. You as an observer also had input and got this response. Acting as if you are a lone observer doesn't make any sense - the universe observes you more than you observe it.
      It's not about singular observation, and 1 man's perspective really doesn't mean much in the grander scheme of the universe. Rather we are privileged to have the opportunity to exist at all, and I believe it is our duty to make the universe the best possible universe we can for ourselves and for future generations. People who struggle with finding meaning in existence are missing that existence is the meaning. We are here, we've already won, and to feel entitled to more than a lifetime is absolutely bizarre. You have the opportunity to love, to create, to enjoy the wonders of the universe, to feel, to breathe, to exist. What more could you possibly want?

    • @timothymeysenburg9160
      @timothymeysenburg9160 5 лет назад

      @@benwebb4424 I still don't see a source of meaning being presented. And sure, I perceive my experiences to be real, but there is no way to even prove THAT. Our agreement on what seems to be shared perceptions could just as easily be my consciousness projecting a self-reinforcing hallucination. But let's posit that all this is real. You speak of responsibility to the universe. From whence did this responsibility arise? I don't remember taking on any such thing. And why would any of this be more than a meaningless accident? The perspective you are putting forth is your interpretation of meaning, but that's exactly my point. It isn't inherent, it's imposed. Nothing means anything without an absolute, infallible, and authoritative perspective. If there are no gods that exist outside of the universe to impose meaning, then there is no greater significance to any of this. On a happier note, that frees us up to decide what is meaningful to us

    Alan Watts that god has no real image etc.
    Through MGLA I’ve found the sense that god is not here as in the world we live. He’s here just not apart of society.
    Ive always been open to god just never found him around. Maybe I should have looked in rather than out

      Kinda sidetracking from what you said, but what I love about Mgla(at least their newer albums) is that they don't seem to promote one world view over the other. Just a pure, unadulterated narrative of the futility of, well, everything. If there is a meaning to anything, it's a meaning within ourselves, whether "self-made" or "god-given". So, agreed, we need to look inside, not outside.
