Slipping off in STRONG WIND after kiteloops - Kitemare

  • After self launching while I attempeting a few stalled kiteloops on a 4m Slingshot sst kite the chicken loop accidentally slipped off the harness hook.
    The wind was blowing around 20 knots and I had to pull the bar back from the safety line and hooking back in again.
    This is one of the reasons why it is very important to check and double check if the CL is correctly connected to the hook and not having the donkey stick or anything else in the middle of the connection.
    I was lucky for having a wide and safe beach area to have the kite flag out without risking other people or damaging the kite. If I had a bigger kite it could have got more difficult to manage the situation and the risks would be higher.
    This is a video of these stalled heliloops on the water:

    It does loop easier and faster than an aerobatic kite 😳

    that depower line is looking real rough! when i take a break on the beach alot of sand gets on the wet depower line. When i get back on the water i make sure do dunk it in the water to make sure it doesnt rub. On the trust bar they wear out fast as well

      Yes. I change the depower rope on all bars when they start getting rough. It also helps to smooth out the bar center holes since the slingshot bars are real sharp on edges.

    happened to me 2 times with my sensor pro bar. Nowadays I always give some hard pulls on my chicken loop locked on my harness hook before taking off, double checking if its secure, had no incidents since then

    No, that wasn't a kitemare, that was you pulling on one side of the bar making the kite loop.

    • @cefirmeza

      Never had the kite releasing by itself on 20+ knots though

      @@cefirmeza No it didn't release by itself, you didn't put the chicken loop on the right way or else the release would be showing...

      @@crowdsurferx that is right. It was my mistake hooking in before launching. That is very important to double check.

    Damn folks are quick to comment from a position of ignorance :) Mister Foil Sessions knows what he's doing guys.
    Many of the loops after the initial chickenloop recovery were intentional, to work around the fact that those centre line un-spinners almost never work beyond the first few sessions. They just have to look at a beach and they jam up with sand. Why Slingshot (and others) still sell these spinners I will never understand. They are totally crap. I think Slingshot calls them "the centre of the universe". More like "centre of the puny-verse" imho.
    As a long-time user of the slingshot compstick, I will say however that your depower bungee looks very tired. They do wear out fast on those bars, but that fucker is gonna fail on you, I've had one break in high winds and it ain't pretty, chasing your kite across a beach like a dickhead is never a good look :-D

    I guess a 4m can't pull too hard in 20 knots but I was pretty nervous the kite was going to power up when it was downwind and the safety line looked tangled around the bar.
    Glad it worked out in the end.

    • @cefirmeza
      @cefirmeza  2 года назад +1

      Thanks. Yes. The reason I played around on sand looping it was the weak power of the kite on these conditions I am used to. Would never attempt this with a bigger kite though.

    it's been always a problem with my 2018 slingshot config. self release was happening few times per season. never ever had this issue with ozone.

    Foil with a rope slider and you'll never slip off the hook again. ditching the hook feels so nice

      @@cefirmeza I got a mystic stealth slider bar and put it on my harness, seems the slider bars are sold separately. Some of the nicer harnesses don't come with any bar so that you can choose your preferred bar. Slider is really nice for foiling

    Any good Foiler outhere would know that it is not risky what the guy is doing. Calm down Guys! But I have to say the Slingshot Swivel is really sh*t - with other Brands Bars you don´t need these Loops for untangleling.

    • @cefirmeza
      @cefirmeza  3 года назад

      You are right. Most kiters out there never used a 4m kite that can pivot during loops. And the shitty swivel just makes you want to keep looping. Is addictive 😆😝
