When you were crossing the Cavenagh Bridge, you pointed out to the skyscrapers in the distance saying none of that would have been there in 1859. That area wouldn't be rice fields, they would be the sea. You'll be fascinated to know that the whole Marina Bay area is all reclaimed land. The original coastline is where the Fullerton Hotel and Elgin Bridge (first bridge you came across) is. Here is the real story behind the reclamation of the whole Marina Bay area. In the 70s, Singapore's biggest challenges were: 1. The small land space to accommodate a growing city of a 3 million people (back then) 2. The frequent flooding at parts of the island due to tropical storms 3. The lack of water sources for a tiny island without glaciers, lakes, springs 4. The biggest problem was the frequent threats from Malaysia to cut off our water supply because we had to import most of our raw water from them. So we were forced to think out-of-the-box to become self-sufficient in terms of water. Imagine a relatively straight coastline in its original form. Singapore decided to create an artificial reservoir by reclaiming land in the shape of 2 arms reaching out to sea, to be joined by a dam. What used to be part of the sea is now a fully enclosed reservoir. Whenever it rains in Singapore, every drop that falls on the island (on roads, buildings, parks) is preciously channelled through its system of open and underground drains into the rivers and reservoirs. In other words, as long as there's rain, there will be water in the reservoirs. Over time, the seawater reservoir at Marina Bay gets transforms into a freshwater lake because it keeps getting fed by rain. It's just like pouring rain into a cup of brine, it pretty much desalinates itself and becomes pure rain water eventually. The construction of the dam was intended to help us prevent floods on the island. We can't stop tropical storms from pouring large volumes of rain all over the city in a very short time, but we can quickly channel the water into the reservoirs through the system of drains and rivers as long as the water level of reservoir is low. And because the water pumps at the dam (Marina Barrage) work hard to pump water out to the sea, the reservoir will never overflow and so the city will never flood. That is the real story behind the Marina Bay area. It's a matter of national security because we are preparing ourselves for the day Malaysia stops supplying water to us for good. Otherwise, Singaporeans wouldn't last a month without water.

technically, if you were able to scan your card for payments, you can likewise use the card for the bus ride, but only for 1 person. it helps if you can either get the tourist pass or armed yourself with some coins to pay onboard the bus.

You can actually tap your credit/debit cards directly for all public transport in Singapore~ charges directly to your bank. You could probably grab and top-up ez-link cards at the convenience stores for the kids to use!
the cavenagh bridge is over the singapore river, and the river flowed into the sea, the southern part of singapore. the sea and the beach used to be before the fullerton hotel (formerly a general post office). where the current merlion is situated used to be where the sea was, before it became a reclaimed land. so the the Merlion, MBS and Gardens by the Bay are built on reclaimed land. The Merlon was relocated to its current location in 2002.

@@BagsPackedFamily you can tap in the bus or MRT with any Visa or Mastercard you use to pay for stuff. You don't have to buy the prepaid ones for transportation.
@@diegochan87 just to add, if you have google pay or apple pay on your mobile with NFC linked to your credit cards, it works too.
We can actually use any credit cards with the pay wave function for buses and trains.
I've been loving to watch your videos since you were in Bali and your videos are way getting better, engaging to watch, sir, I hope your family are blessed with joy and health.
It's ok to say Terima kasih in Singapore actually. Most of them understand that because one of the main ethnicities in Singapore is Malay and the biggest tourist visitor in Singapore is Indonesian.
Is that used in the MRT announcement? I always hear it as Rima Kasih. Is it because the Ter was very soft ?
Hey SYH! Thanks for the tips!
@@SuccessforLifester definitely Terima kasih.
The spiral staircase was one of the most instagrammed spot in the world awhile back.
U have to shoot from ground up to the sky in wide angle mode.
It’s a very pretty spot.
Do visit SG connecting parks. You can cycle. Try Palau Ubin. Hit the local neighbourhoods for great and cheap hawker food.
i'm from singapore & i'm glad you enjoy our country!
technically, if you were able to scan your card for payments, you can likewise use the card for the bus ride, but only for 1 person. it helps if you can either get the tourist pass or armed yourself with some coins to pay onboard the bus.
Thank you for your video again. I was not good with words but just ❤ it. Couldnt helped 😂 when Forest shouted he wanted to take a shower...he always made me smiled with his cuteness. Wish you and your family always stay happy, healthy and blessed👌.
Try bugis street where there are cheap stuff to buy n good food at the nearby hwaker centre, food is around sgd4 to sgd5 n there are many choices , indian, malay, chinese, western food. Or take the mrt to chinatown to see the pagoda temple, walk over to maxwell road food centre across the temple for hawker food
Nov 1st 2019 i had long haul 1 way trip to SOUTH INdia- CJB airport from Melbourne to Changi to Coimbatore.. A tour bus was there.. took us there..
Haha definitely a great video. 😂 amazing to see the kids push through walking such long distances!
The family including the 3 kids had trekked the Himalayas before. You can search their past videos.
@@saifuddinamin9730 oh my! Amazing family
Marche is not just a bakery. It's a full restaurant. Sort of like a Piccadilly.
Wonderful place . I loved it
What a great family. And what a interesting and enjoyable walk through the city....
Wishing your family well!! Loved your Singapore vlogs!! ❤️❤️
What awesome kids you have, espacially little Forest, walking all the way with no complain 🥰👍👏👏👏👏
You can use cash for the bus fare. But the downside is that there is no change back. So, either you pay the exact amount or tell the bus captain to keep the change.
Thanks for the info!
The KIDS ARE SO ADORABLE specially FOREST so CUTE🥰
What a lovely family! ❤
There is a nightly laser light show at the Marina Bay waterfront. There is also a nice food court there.
Great video, it was nice meeting you guys. Looking forward to watch your next adventures.
Welcome to Singapore and thank you for sharing your wonderful time here.
Thanks for the added info!
you dont have to use prepaid card to use public transportation, you can use contactless credit / debit card
30:20 That's shades like 🌞 BTW nice video ❤️

awww my first video from your channel. Such a lovely family and you guys have such a positive vibe all around. Very well behaved kids! Enjoy your time in Singapore its definitely the switzerland of Asia as they say (except the Humidity ofc haha). Hope you have a great time!
I love these videos 🤩!!! Beautiful!!! What a beautiful family. I loved Jonathan's interaction with his daughter Cedar. Beautiful father - daughter combo 🤩!!! Want to see more Jonathan - Cedar videos together!!! Cedar obviously loves and wants her dad's attention. Forrest obviously gets all the attention because he's the youngest (happens in all families throughout all families often throughout the world) though 🤩🤣
Little (and even grown up) girls love their fathers 🤩🤩 I always see Cedar wants Jonathan's attention subtly and Kelly is a great wife and mother. And Jonathan - you're a great father and husband.
Tidak akan ada yg tidak suka Singapore. Kota megah, artistik dan bersih. Itulah klo Pemerintahnya bisa mengendalikan penduduknya. Indonesia, bahkan tempat wisatanya masih banyak sampah.
