@@flandox6659 I guess they should just have given the pedestrians a green light for as long as the bridge is open. Pedestrians were ignoring the traffic lights now anyway, which is quite logical since the cars can't pass while the bridge is open, anyway. I would honestly do the same, if I were there. So all in all it's senseless to keep the lights green, and it also gives two conflicting traffic signals.
These bridges are amazing and very unique in how they open and and what makes the go up on nearly a 90 degree angle. Some even being over 100 years of age. I also believe Chicago still has one of the original trunnion bascule style bridges to this day.
This reminds me of that bridge scene in The Blues Brothers, i seriously don't think thats possible but it was good for the movie. Have a blessed Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone
This is one of the Vertical Lift Bridges, And not the Bascule Ones. Im Seeing More of the Trunnion And Vertical Lift Bridges Being Replaced with The Bascule Bridges. Neat video though.(PS, Where are the Covers for the Signals), Everytime Im in this area, I Always wondered what happened to the Covers on the signals or Are they Intentionally made this way
Thanks. This is actually a bascule bridge because the way the bridge works is that there’s a counterweight underneath that lowers and lifts the bridge up kind of like a seesaw. as for the bridge signal, the covers fell must of fell off because I’ve seen it before with the covers on
They should have those traffic lights wired to the bridge signals so that the light isn't green while the bridge lifts.
They should, The traffic lights are for the crosswalk near the signal
@@flandox6659 Thanks for telling me I didn't know that!

Agreed
This triggered me as well

Yes they are, and a lot of their bridge design did originate from Chicago. It is so cool we still get to see them operate to this day.

There are a lot of drawbridges that have that style, the one in the movie was the 95th St. bridge on the Calumet river. Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
sounds like a railroad crossing
The bells sound like railroad crossings in Finland!!
Nice!
@AngkorSon2014 these bells here are B&B Engineering Motor bells
Traffic Signal needs to be Red when Bridge is Lifted
It should be
Those bells sound cool
Thank you, these bells are B&B Engineering motor bells
This is like the Charles Berry Bridge on US Route 6 in Lorain Ohio
Yep they’re both B&B engineering bells

@@flandox6659 Ah. I never knew that. I know we do have vertical Lift bridges, and a Few old Trunnion ones. But Its nice to see these old things move
Yes it is
I ❤️ 😍 💖 LOVE ALL THE CHICAGO RIVER BRIDGES!!
Me too!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
That was Japanese crossing bells
These are B&B engineering mechanical bells which are made in the U.S. though they do have the same rhythm as Japanese bells.
Looks like bridge day for the sailboats to get out of the lake for the winter. Repeats in April or May going to the lake.
That’s correct, and bridge lift season already commenced
Sounds like the ones in NYC
They’re both B&B Engineering bells
A couple guys are just out walking looking for something.
Where/when
0:33 you should stop walking right now
They should

I agree that I need The Wire. The bridgewhite so that they turn red when the Bells stop dinging in the gates closed.
Yes, but Chicago Drawbridges have their own signals but they should wire them to the traffic lights
How many dammmm boats are passing through there😅
At least 10
This is a joke how fucking slow is this to finish closing 😂
