    WOAH, the old bell on the streetlight pole is very cool! I wonder what they sound like? I wished they were still used! They appear to have a bronze/bronze alloy bell as it is corroded greenish.

      Thank you, I also wish these bells were still in use for signal. I believe this bell is a WRRS locomotive style crossing bells.

    The Chicago Department of Transportation opens these bridges twice a year: in the Spring to let the sailboats with the oversized masts out into Lake Michigan, and in the Fall to put the sailboats back into winter storage.
    On the bridges with heavy traffic, they have to send out workers to chase people off the bridge who insist on crossing it when the bells go off.

      The bell is one of the new Western Cullen Hayes 0333 mechanical bells. I also love their sound.

    I wonder if drawbridges are the only road feature where mechanical bells are still currently manufactured for, since railways are phasing them out it seems

      Most likely Western Cullen Hayes is the company that still produces them
