@@britneypennington8502 sea turtles hold the record for longest breath holders among all air breathing creatures, they can literally hold their breath for hours at a time, so holding it for these few minutes of the chase is not too hard for them. I am more impressed at that speed, it just took off
I have seen on youtube turtle rescues, where sea turtles are stuck between big rocks or reefs when the tide goes down. The sea turtles are now stranded and either wait for the next high tide or are rescued by people. This could be the reason that it happens. Very interesting information you have gathered. Thanks for sharing.
Incredible footage! Your videos just get better and better as you become more knowledgeable on the subject of sharks. I'm fully expecting to see some of your footage featuring within quality nature documentaries such as those hosted by global treasure Sir David Attenborough.
So beautiful to watch from your drone. Love the ocean wave sounds. I really enjoy your channel learning so much more about our oceans. I grew up swimming the Pacific Ocean off central California . The further out I went, the more I’d enjoy it. If I knew the great whites were traveling along the coast so close and so often, I’m sure I would have not swam out so far. Only saw one once about 10 feet out from me. It just kept swimming north, paying no attention to me. I stood still in the water about 5 feet deep. Not because I was taught to do this, but out of sheer amazement. This was back in the days when my sisters and I (starting around age 7) would walk to the beach for the day…. Stay all day… without our parents. This was normal back then.
Congratulations on capturing such epic footage!!! I can only imagine how hard it is to keep perfect pace with wild animals in the heat of the moment! They had active sprints and stop-on-a-dime evasive maneuvers, and I love that you kept the action smoothly in frame! This whole trip looks like an amazing experience 😍
Beautiful video once again! I must admit I was hoping the turtle would escape even though I realize this is just nature. The footage of the whole thing is phenomenal and the educational information that you bring to us is AWESOME. Thank you for all you do! Your work is amazing!!! 😄💙🐬
Excellent footage! Praia/Baia Sueste is quite an interesting place. Very impressive biodiversity there and I feel this technique of drone monitoring Praia Sueste will very much help the national park officials understand the dynamics of the beach, helping to prevent future attacks, keeping the bay preserved etc...
Wow! Outstanding footage. Fascinating behavior of the two species, predator & prey. I particularly loved how the turtle turned upside down to the shark in order to avoid further bites. Thanks for sharing.
Que video encantador. Mas nunca tinha torcido tanto para uma tartaruga. Fiquei muito feliz por ela ter escapado do tubarão. O Brasil, tem seus encantos. Fernando de Noronha é surpreendentemente belo!
Prime time TV/Netflix etc should be hiring you to make documentaries on the ocean - your footage, voice and video presentation is THAT good. I really enjoy your videos and thank you for all your beautiful work and effort. THAT TURTLE WAS INCREDIBLE!
Carlos is recognized by many for his films and has worked for many international and national organizations. Check out his website for more incredible video's and pictures.
I think I could tell when a shark was around while out surfing in Santa Cruz CA. All the critters disappear and a strange feeling would come up. Great videos.
Oh mate, thank you for sharing such amazing footage, and I truly appreciate your narration, too. I understand the turtles tilt to present too broad a target to bite down upon. I wonder if corralling the turtles to the shallows is an attempt to remove that defence. Then again, would it then be too shallow for the shark. Regardless, thank you again for such fascinating content.
It seems possible that some tiger sharks cooperate to gain advantage in a feed. In one of those 'Shark Week' shows, at a place called 'Headstone Bay' at Australia's Norfolk Island, farmers dump cow carcasses into the ocean and the tigers are always around for a feed. This last year, it seems teenage white sharks decided to try to 'crash' the party. The tigers assembled in very large numbers (40+) and fed in an orderly manner: a top down column of circling tiger sharks, where each one fed in turn. But at the base of that assembly was a very large, very scarred Tiger. The film makers opined that the tigers arranged themselves to shut out any intrusions from white shark and the big tiger is there to keep the white sharks from trying any 'polaris style' runs on the carcasses.
What an advantageous view. I notice that the turtles have a very quick reaction movement to tilt their bodies so its shell faces the shark's mouth at the right time. I imagine as water gets shallow is harder for turtles to turn without hitting the bottom. Also breaking waves must have effect on these turns to avoid the shark's jaw. Interesting to see. I watched now 3 times to see if i see a pattern
What you capture for us too witness is utterly amazing...!!! Thank god that turtle escaped i know it's nature. I have 30yrs experience in the avian field having worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. But seeing that burst of speed from both species was incredible. How the sea turtle flipped itself too expose it's shell to the shark's mouth in defense. Very similar to what doves and pigeons do when attacked by a falcon or hawk. They leave them with a missing tail or a bunch of down feathers and will sometimes escape. Natures "defense mechanisms" of various animals is truly astonishing. Especially, when you can capture it while it's happening as you do. Keep up the great work.
After tiger shark attacks here in Hawaii some people call for hunting them however shark researchers say that killing the really large tigers inadvertently sets the stage for an increase in large tigers as the large tigers prey on 6-10 foot tigers. Without the predation of the smaller tigers by the larger ones more smaller ones grow to be the really large tigers.
Patiently waiting on the day when an interaction (or even better, some interactions) between great white shark and tiger shark will be captured. I have only seen one video of a whale carcass that had both species feeding on it around the same time (but not in the same frame). That would be a monumental video or picture(s) to take
Awesome, beautiful footage my guy. Love your narration as well. And I'd like to add.... to all the shark diving experts that claim to be "experts" putting out videos showing them diverting tiger sharks, divert one that's in attack mode, like this one was. Let's see how you make out.
Absolutely Incredible!! that chase was awesome ive never seen that before! and that island is BEAUTIFUL! what a true paradise, its also really cool to see that they’ve closed that area to humans due to the wildlife activity. that should happen a lot more than it does sadly
Amazing. this is pure beauty. Thank you for sharing this footage for free. This footage is a wonderful gift. 🙏 Shark Week needs to hire you. You are objective and just show nature as it is, with no political bent like the Discovery Channel tries to soft-pedal to the masses. These drones really opened my eyes to how many sharks there really are. There has been a push over the years to save the sharks for decades. I suspect there are way more sharks than hard-core "supposed to be objective with the data experts" would like us to believe.
Baia de Sueste, in Fernando de Noronha was popular tourist spot to swim with turtles. I've been there myself and I was amazed by how many turtles were there and I was oblivious to the fact that it is also hunting waters for tiger sharks.
Thank you for your great video's 👍 sharks are so beautiful and so in danger of men wrong look at them. Save the Shark ♥️ Greetings from the Netherlands
Carlos, if you see this, would you consider including the depths of the water you believe the sharks and other species are moving through? I don't even mind if you use inches and feet 🦶🦶 to describe said water depth. 🤔. Okay, 'nough of the emojis. I'm not expecting you to get in the water with a tape measure though if you do, make sure you give someone the drone to record it. PS: In all seriousness, thanks for sharing your visit to Fernando De Noronha with us. It looks absolutely breathtaking in its beauty. (I was going to insert a picture of my face to indicate breathtaking beauty but it doesn't come in emoji size.)
The Tiger shark is most likely probing for a weak turtle, but as seen in this amazing footage. One which simply takes the sharks fancy and instinct kicks in.
There was no problem , until the turtle became stressed out , when you stress out you become a victim and victims are preyed upon . These things were mentioned back in the days in our diving club , never stress out , keep your calm and always an eye on the creature
Amazing footage and clarity of water. The shark that chased the turtle did not seem that large, maybe not adult yet? We have no chance to outswim them. Years ago I saw amazing footage of 2 spearfishers in Hawaii being stalked by a large tiger shark. They had to keep poking it or swimming at it. The shark was trying to sneak behind them. It was a similar dance, involving 2 humans.
