- Dispatch audio compiled of a standoff this morning in Burnsville in which two police officers and a fire medic were killed by a suspect who was then found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to multiple sources and not yet officially released, the suspect is Shannon Gooden, 38, who was wanted for 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct. The officers have been identified as Paul Elmstrand, 27, and Matthew Ruge, 27. The fire medic who was killed has been ID'd as Adam Finseth, 40.

Minnesota is heartbroken over the loss of our brave public safety officers. This is unacceptable. An attack on law enforcement anywhere is an attack on the fabric of America everywhere. We stand with Burnsville police, fire and their families.

This is absolutely unacceptable we need to open the city to every asylum seeker and give them cash food and shelter immediately. We need to, as communities, DEMAND a change in the judicial system that will prosecute these shooters to the maximum extent possible but instead of a slap on the wrist and 5 or more years' probation. I'm not saying this shooter has a criminal history, but most of the time they are repeat offenders. Protect our first responders instead of the criminals. We are told the prisons are overcrowded but explain to me why they are using our prisons to house the illegals, like they have at Eagle Pass, TX. They emptied that prison over 2 years ago in preparation of all of the illegals coming in. My husband wore the badge for 25 years over 20 years ago and things are much, much worse now with no support from our government to speak of and having to do the job that normally would take just one officer. Think of what life will be when we no longer have the protection AND paramedics when we are in crisis. Just think about how many families, friends, and communities were affected by this one person who only thought of himself. Hold these judges, state representatives, and all others that could change the laws and make them accountable for every criminal that they give probation to, which ends up committing a worse crime since they know they got away with it before. This is the only country that I know of that the criminals have more rights than the victim.

It seems like domestic violence calls are the most dangerous for first responders, drug raids seems safer. This might lead to a heavy handed approach to all DV calls resulting in more fatalities

It's my understanding that they are well known to be the most dangerous calls.
Well a lot of drug raids are sometimes no knocks or very fast planning actions this was probably a random like house call response

@@WVGIRL72Trespassing isn't even close! I was an officer for over a decade. Domestic violence followed by gang violence. The wannabe gangs are more dangerous than the actual gangs. Now we have a large portion of society on drugs to the point that a woman ate her infant because she was so gone she couldn't tell the difference in dinner and her child!! Another boy beheaded his mom. These aren't things some pothead does. People look around you and open your eyes! I don't think anyone is running this country.
This recording is going to be part of my training program now- you all did a great job. All agencies working through this difficult situation in coordinated fashion on one channel and with such great restraint and focus, is nearly textbook.

Repeatedly, convicts are released early from prison, only to commit atrocious crimes. Take, for instance, Maurice Clemens, originally sentenced to life for matricide, who later killed four Lakewood police officers in Washington State without apparent reason.

You can subscribe to the scanner and get audio recordings. My local police department encrypted their scanner traffic because they have built a ton of apartments and low income housing and now they want to hide all the crime the newcomers are committing.

The reason departments are encrypting their radio communications is to mitigate safety and privacy concerns, ie medical information, ss#, juvenile records, etc… another reason is to avoid lawsuits that ultimately cost taxpayers.

The animal that committed this crime also tried to arm his children that day. So they could also shoot at first responders but they wouldn’t do it. And after he was shot but before he killed himself he asked his children if they wanted to go with him. He would have shot his own children as well. What a trash father! These poor kids are going to need years of therapy.

Probably. His social media was filled with violence and threats. He petitioned the court to restore his gun rights after he got out of prison and the judge granted it to him.

The police probably use numbers code to pronounce deaths. They don't announce dead police or firefighters on air so all can hear I think.
Agree. All I heard was the firing out the window and all were accounted for. Only mention was an officer shot in the leg.
Perhaps the police dept didn't say that on air as they are aware public can access. They need to be first to notify any family of this.
Its been a little over 30 yrs since I've been to Minnesota, or Minneapolis to be exact. It was almost an innocent place to be considering it being a major metropolitan area. Some have ruined it for many to have to endure. And I'm not just talking about the criminals per se.

From what I read earlier, he and another officer were aiding an officer who was shot. The gunman shot them in cold blood while they were helping the wounded officer.
He was a swat medic, not a regular patrol medic.
That's NOT an excuse whatsoever for his untimely passing, just answering the question, as to why a medic would be so close to the line of fire..
