Thank you, this video just made my life much easier.
My twin double-hung tilt-out 36-inch windows are 25 years old. Long story, I had one extra window when I built my house, so I had double-hung to replace the rotted lower sash. So I stained the lower window to match the existing ones. I had to stain and polyurethane the window to match. Then today, I was ready. I removed the entire lower window with the side attachments which were screwed into the window's side. Each slide into the locks on the window balance. At first, the balance shoe locks wouldn't turn up. They needed to turn up to receive the replacement window. I sprayed the shoe locks with silicone but they wouldn't turn. I should have used WD40! I sprayed and let it sit to penetrate the old mechanism. Spraying WD40 WORKED in loosening the shoe to pivot upward. This is necessary to have the shoe up so that the shoe can receive the metal attachment which is connected to the window. I think once the window's metal attachment is setting into the shoe, then the shoe will rotate back into the correct position, allowing the window to move up and down. I am so excited that I was able to get this far!!!! I have to wait for a friend to help lift the window onto the left and right shoes without twisting the window. I took pictures of the window replacement process that I've talked about.
I just had 30+ windows installed. There are about 12 that make a clicking sound when raising and lowering the lower window. I’m trying to figure out if it was installed wrong or if it’s a problem within the window. Is it possible that when windows were trimmed out, the nails from the nailer hit the balance mechanism inside?
if replacing just lower balance do you need to release tension on upper balance???

Yes, you need to remove upper sash as well to remove entire side moulding, THEN you can replace lower and/or upper balances. I replaced 2 balances today after 7 years of procrastination! It was very simple thanks to this video.
if you are feeling your way through this for the first time, I suggest by the numbers with long pauses . Slow it down please. Spend a little more time on each component , focus and hold.
