  • In this video I answer some questions regarding the Truma Aventa Air conditioning system. We had this installed back at the beginning of the year and we are really happy with it, but we do have the same questions asked of us, so I hope this video answers many of the questions that you may have if you are interested in one of these units.
    The Truma Aventa Compact is a smaller unit that is designed to fit into many modern caravans, I would highly recommend you speak to your caravan dealership or mobile engineer if you are interested in having one of these installed.

    Love these videos. We've just returned to caravanning after a long break, and surprised by how far tech and design has come. Our last van was a Bailey Pageant Vendee Series 5 I think. Loved it to bits and never had a single issue with it. This time we have a Bailey Unicorn Cabrera. Again, no issues at all. Still getting used to the layout though.Keep these vids coming as every time I watch one, I feel that I am away in the van. Odd I know but it makes me feel good.Cheers.

    Good video Dan. We have the same unit and a couple of weeks back were in Provence during the heat wave which hit much of Southern Europe. The highest outside temperature we recorded was 43 degrees! During the hottest part of the day we hid in the van with all the blinds drawn and the aircon on full blast. Temperatures in the van hit 30 but like you we directed all the air to the front on the van where we were sitting so we remained comfortable. We only had the aircon on at night once but the noise was a bit much so we switched it off. Like you say the fan noise is okay but when the compressor kicks in you notice it. We did have a couple on the pitch behind us complain about the noise (they were German and apparently Germans have a thing about noise) and relations with them got a bit testy. But then they surprised us by giving us a bottle of wine to apologise! We are back in northern France now so haven’t used the aircon, but we’re heading down south soon so no doubt it will come into its own again.

    I’m a Air conditioning engineer and I wouldn’t be surprised if caravan manufacturers start to fit ducted heatpump systems. Heat pump units do heating & cooling by reversing the cycle of the refrigerant so rather than cool they heat. These heat pumps could be installed where the gas fire is then be ducted around the caravan for warm or cool air depending on the climate outside. Just like office blocks do.

    Hi, After many years away from a caravan in the UK I thank you for so many intuitive thoughts and I would encourage anyone to watch your vids. On this one though I am way veering Swift having looked at a few. Eldiss (check as I still need to) AFAIK will allow roof air-con BUT you need to pre-order a roof strengthened one (less negotiating potential but maybe at a show??). Swift OTOH comes fully ready (check model and Swift site). Your dealer saying your Bailey is air-con install is fine as they ill cover the Truma made hole is great as the Bailey warranty covers elsewhere BUT if one says not me guv as the ingress a few feet away from the hole is disputable as to root cause three years hence it's a minefield at the very best (why industrial warranties have carefully drafted joint loss language). Truma are out of it as I understand your vid...................Great van but I would have felt guilty not mentioning this as these things happen (why we buy warranties/insurance). Now not saying all would just be great with Swift but i a small claims court I would be feeling well armed that route that's all.
    ..........................Of course anyone who is never going to install a roof air con will have different considerations from the off.

    Great stuff Dan, We really wanted aircon in our motorhome while in France when the temp was 41degC. We are trading our Motorhome for a large caravan as we are expecting our first baby and need more room for cots etc however heat in the summer does worry me with a little one even in this country so this is a serious consideration to add to the spec sheet.

For example if buying a 2 to 4 year old caravan 2nd hand can you still go to a dealer or manufacturer to see about having the MTPLM increased. Keep these videos going absolutely love them even though we have not got our caravan yet because i intend to pay for it cash in the next couple of years when I officially retire and get a government pension although I have retired early as my works package was to good to turn down

    • @TheTrudgians

      Morning, a great question - The AC unit can be transferred to a new caravan. Because the unit is designed to fit in a 400mm x 400mm hole, a small skylight or onmivent can be retro fitted back in the newly created hole in the roof. so, although a big investment, it can be transferred and moved from caravan to caravan from here on.

    Interesting video, did Truma give you advice on its location ? For us the main bedroom is a priority for cooling to get a good nights sleep but the layout of the 640 means you really have to give the location a thought. I guess at night you leave both bathroom doors open.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Philip, The placement of the unit in the 640 is the only location it can go. The roof lights for the washroom, the location of the solar panel means it has to go there. The skylight in the bedroom is too far back and is too close to teh joint strap. However, the placement where it is means the bedroom gets a good direction of air from the fans. If we angle the defuser to blow backwards as well, the bedroom cools down quite quickly.
      I hope that helps.
      Dan

      @@reading-woody Hi Woody, we are thinking to buy an Adria twin as well and as we plan to tour Southern Europe (when it is safe!)we may need to get A.C in the hab area. How are you liking the Twin?

    • @reading-woody
      @reading-woody 3 года назад +1

      @@geoffwhyham3337 Hi Geoff, due to the lockdown restrictions last year, we didn't get to use the van as much as we would have liked but overall, we are very pleased with it. There have been a few small issues that are to do with the factory build which I have managed to resolve myself, things like plastic latches on the gas locker door breaking which I replaced with stainless steel ones, drawers under the cooker/sink coming open when you're driving which I fixed with some additional magnets, the latch/bolt that secures the hatch door under the bed in to the garage area didn't work because the bolt wasn't lined up with the hole that it was supposed to go in to, the pre-installed tv bracket wasn't level which meant that when I mounted the tv, it was on a slant, the large roof light let in water through one of the retaining hook/brackets which has been temporarily fix with a bead of silicone while a replacement is on order (this is a defect with a batch of Remis roof lights that Adria have been made aware of), the magnet that holds the shower wall open was not secured in a perfect horizontal position which meant that only a third of the magnet was in contact with the door which in turn meant that it didn't stay closed when you wanted it to, but again I fixed this myself.
      I would say that the biggest thing to consider is the weight of the van and how low it sits which in turn results in a hard ride. We had so many extras fitted and didn't stop to think about any impact on our payload which meant that with a full tank of fuel and water plus two people on board, we only had 100kgs of payload left for all of our clothes, belongings and food etc. The habitation air-con, spare wheel, auto gear box, additional leisure battery, solar panel, 160bhp engine upgrade, awning and GasLo system added 150 kgs to the weight alone. As most of the additional weight is towards the back of the van, it meant that the headlights were pointing far too high (even in the lowest setting) and we dazzled anyone coming towards us.
      We have since had air suspension fitted to the van and this has made a huge difference to the ride, handling and noise and our headlights point towards the road and not the sky. It is well worth the £500 that we paid for it. This change also meant that we could up-rate the van to 3850 kgs which cost £300. We now have more payload than we actually need plus a much better ride and handling. The van sits higher with the suspension set at just 2Bar and gives us 3 inches of wheel arch clearance. As far as the air-con goes, unless, you are going to spend lots of time in warm/hot countries, I would think long and hard before spending £1800 on it. In hindsight, we could have done without it but having said that, we have only used it in the UK and not abroad.
      On the Fiat side of things, we comfortably get 30mpg from the van, it does get through quite a bit of Ad-Blu (about 5ltrs for every 1500 miles and we have had to top the engine oil up with 2 litres after 4500 miles. The engine stop/start has a mind of its own, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and this will be fixed when it goes in for service.
      Even with these small niggles, the van is by far the best you can get in terms of build quality. We rented out other makes to try before we buy and the build quality of them was far inferior to Adria, having said that they are much cheaper to buy.
      Hopefully, this is useful information for you. If you need anything else, drop me a message.
      Woody

      Hi, I don’t think it is when you consider the cost of everything else.
      £20k for the caravan,
      £30k for a tow car,
      £1500 for awning & furniture,
      £1000 for a motor mover,
      £300 for a TV,
      £700 for a tow bar
      £900 for gin.
      Its amazing how much stuff costs when you sit down and think about it. In fact, i might have look again at the insurance cover we have…
      Take care
      Dan
