But at the end I did it and befriending Asriel only made me all the more happy cause the one monster I hated the most throughout the game I.e. flowey turned out to be that one character who had the most painful backstory in the entire game followed by his own dad's which was heart wrenching too Over all it was not a great journey.. But it was best one I had ever been on in a game( that's part of the reason why I dont like MMOs that much compared to RPGs ) And I know only a very few of you might have read it till this far but if you did then I am really happy to know that at least some of you could understand me( cause I have tried countless times to encourage my friends into playing it but they never showed any interest in it and turns out that I am the only one in my entire class to have played this game so that loneliness really hits me hard😔) Well but these ost make me happy and it reminds me that I do have friends tho not real but they are there in my heart😊😊
I'll admit, I shed manly tears. While they said that everyone would follow, I felt like this was a final goodbye. Goatmom finally came back to save me. I endured Asriel, and let him perform a final act of kindness. Sans with his puns and his best friend shtick, PApyrus with his hilarious incompetence, Undyne with her infinite determination to stick up for those she cares about, Alphys with her knowledge of machines, Asgore with his selflessness, and most importantly, Toriel. The one that cared for you, and made sure you were happy by any means. The perfect mother. I sobbed a little bit, but when the option "I want to stay with you" came up at the end, I did NOT hesitate to select it. The true pacifist ending. Pure perfection, in my eyes. Soon, Asriel, we'll rip you from that genocidal weed, and give you your own life. In the meantime, I'll take care of your parents. Nay. OUR parents.
I know why most people find the ending of Undertale bittersweet, and it is a good reason, but my reason is different. After all the work you put in, you did it. You finally save them. You can do it over and over. But no matter what, they can't really come up to the surface and live with US, the players. Even if Flowey seems self aware, he's not, and never will be. They just say what they're programmed to say. The characters we tried so hard to save, from meeting Toriel to saving Asriel, are just lines of code. No matter how much we love them, they can't come to life. The personality we see... It's all a lie. But when playing the game... I feel like it isn't. When I'm playing the game, I'm fighting for them. I know they aren't real, but I love them as if they were family. When you beat the game, you know what a reset will do to them.
(This comment is literally 2 years old... but eh) I think it's more about the impact the game has on you. For me, Undertale really made me a happier person, helped me to love and forgive others better, and to keep persevering. It helped me realize I've always got people who love me and will support me, even if it's taking video game characters to help me realize that, lmao. Sort of like how people have been changed by Harry Potter or The Avengers. The story and characters may be fictional, but the lesson learned, and the impact it makes on your life, are very real.

This song really tells you that its time to say goodbye. The game does give mercy that you can talk to all of your friends before leaving, but hear me out. The song captures the feeling of departure. You cant play this game for all eternity. Thats why Flowey shows up after you try to boot up the game after the True Pacifist Run. He doesn't want you back. They dont want you back. You already made them happy. Dont make them suffer from a Genocide Run or Neutral Run. And seeing a merciless beast as Flowey say those words, you wouldn't say no, would you? No, you would not. This is the best Indie game I have ever played. Goddamnit Toby, you're a genius.
Literally what stopped me. I had planned to do a Genocide run right after. But when he stopped me, I reflected back on just how all this made you FEEL. The characters may not be real, living breathing beings... but the emotions and thought put into this very much are. That's enough for me.

This is the kind of reason I play this game! If you took one thing out of the game, it wouldn't be the same. If you took out Toriel, you'd probably choose Genocide. If you didn't have the music, it would just be mindless playing. If we didn't have Papyrus- I don't know. He's just awesome.
As someone who is stuck at Undyne the Undying, even though I've already done a True Pacidist route, I feel like a total piece of shit reading this comment, because, I want to do the genocide route because I've done atleast 12 resets, to the point where Flowey isn't even showing up anymore, and as much as I try to do pacifist again just to make myself feel better, I always end up with genocide, and I also want to do genocide because of Sans and Undyne the Undying and also Chara. But I want to do a True Pacifist route again because of this song, and the feeling of a satisfying and merciful ending, and Asriel, and everyone else, so, yeah. The universe hates me.
Yknow, probably the worst part about Asriel staying behind is that he COULD have had a happy ending. Flower or no, he's still Toriel and Asgore's son, and as Boss Monsters their soul power would have slowly transferred to him. Eventually he'd be back to his old self and able to live a proper life, and Toriel and Asgore would be able to grow old knowing their child was alive. But nope. Mr. "Everything Is My Fault" won't listen to us. :/

Walking back all the way from the castle to the ruins, getting 10g from the ferry, getting carried across the disproportionately small gap, listening what all the monsters have to say, smiling at Toriels texts, and revisiting all these places, and everyone is just so happy... Then, talking to Asriel at the very first room in the game, again, how everyone was so happy... It made me decide to never reset the game ever again... This song reminds me of that, and everytime I open my computer and see that red heart, I want to click it and play, but then I remember, and listen to this song. It's my favorite song from the OST, and listening to it makes me shake just like I did throughout my entire playthrough, I don't know, I just shake every time I hear this song. This is art, Toby. You officially made me emotionately attached to a game and a song. :')
Honestly I felt bad for attempting a genocide run. But sans was the one thing I could never get past. So in my timeline...Sans was successful in stopping me from reaching the point of no return. Now I don't think I can ever go back to that. It hurts too much to see all of the characters I grew to love die (especially papyrus. Love that guy.) Edit:I tried twice and sans foiled me both times.
That's exactly how I felt first playing Pokemon lol, towns having their own music made me wish the same IRL. The closest we get is those speakers that play Christmas tunes at the end of the year, which is still lovely

Or even if you're "among friends" at a distance, being able to make room for each other to hang out in a video game or chat room and getting caught up with each other in brief respite despite the turbulence of life. This can make me cry anytime I listen to it. I remember all the cool characters I met, the challenges I faced and the bonds I created. Undertale will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks a lot Toby, you turned me into a softy
My personal headcanon is that this is Frisk's theme. (Since whether or not they have one is otherwise unspecified.) It really captures the gentleness and kindness that the character portrays in a Pacifist Route, and it only plays after you learn their name - after which, it plays during the entire playable epilogue, essentially following you as you journey through the Underground again. Among other things, I think getting to hear Frisk's theme is one of the "rewards" for choosing the Pacifist Ending, and sticking to it for this long.
@@gimmekromer1151 This is actually one of the arguments in favor of Frisk being the aggressor and his theme being Megalovania. When you run into monsters encounters (they attacking you), you always get the first turn. But in this case Sans gets the first attack, meaning that is Frisk the one who is the aggressor.
I get a real Chrono Trigger vibe from this song, and it's beautiful. I love how Toby made a lot of these tracks as love letters to great RPGs and other great games; OFF!, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Mother 3, and even Mega Man X.

Pathetic house, relaxing with Naptablook. The True Laboratory. The places where you could walk left or right and there was something big in the background. Actually some background music or background noises made some Yume Nikki vibe.
Now that I think about it, wouldn't it of been nice if we had a way to fast travel throughout the place? I mean Sans can practically warp anywhere he likes with his 'shortcuts'. C'mon sans, help a brother out!
idk why, but this right here is the most emotional ost to me out of the whole game yes, its even more than his theme and all that WARNING BEEP BEEP SPOILERS WEE WOOH WEE WOOH i think its because knowing the fact that youre leaving asriel behind, and that the monsters are finally moving on from their once prison but that isnt the emotional part. no, that barely makes up for half of the feelz its knowing that chara is having to see their best friend get left behind. plus, what even happens to them?? do they finally fade away, after everything has been mended (at least, as much as it can possibly be), are they stuck with ya forever??? idk man, but one things for sure, chara saw some real crap and probably went through some real crap during the pacifist end and its really sad, we never get to see anymore of them, all we got was their story, their *_one_* appearance, and of course, their narration, which is probably the most we ever got from them, and the most in character thing of them (if that makes sense) poor kid man, honestly theyre my favorite character from undertale. not even frisk can beat em i often end up adoring underappreciated characters, especially ones that are shunned a lot by the fandom its really sad that they got demonized so much, i truly believe that they were actually a good kid man, they may have accidentally ended up just starting another war, but they didnt mean to, they just wanted to repay the monsters and their new family for being so kind to them and taking them in like they were one of them
As you exit the underground, the fresh air filling your lungs. The sun sinking into the atmosphere below, you and your family standing over the mountain, watching as the night takes place. All the happy and relaxed expressions on their faces. Toriel looks so glad and happy, Sans is finally wearing a true smile, Papyrus looks amazed, Undyne looks relaxed and cheerful, Alphys looks so confident and amazed, Asgore looks accepted and loved. You all watch the sun set and walk off to your new lives. And you had no where else to go. So what better option than to stay with the woman you have already name your mother? As you grow on, as the Ambassador of Monster Kind, you lead the Monsters to a world of peace with the humans. Many people doubted your ability, as you were but a child, but your unwavering determination and charisma plowed through the humans' doubts. You can finally live along side your family in peace. You helped Asgore trim that one Papyrus-shaped bush. You graduated from Toriel's- no, you graduated from Mom's school. You cheer on Sans as he, absurdly as it may seme, overtook Papyrus in his car whilst riding the blue bike. You got to help Undyne gather up the courage to propose to Alphys, you got to see it happen on the beach. You get to live on, in a world where humans and monster got along. ---- One day, you climbed MT. Ebott. You didn't care about the legend anymore; even if you fell, you could still travel through the Underground, revisit your memories, until you got to the other side. But no, that's not why you climbed MT. Ebott that day. You had a feeling... a feeling that something you had been trying to do since you finally escaped the Underground was finally going to happen, if you just got there on time. As you climb. you remember the fear you felt, sprinting up the mountain terrain. You remember... the not-so-happy event that caused you to run away. And you smile at the happiness you found. All because you tripped on a branch, right in front of the hole, whilst wavering between cowardice and living on. You climb the mountain, up until you see the small flower patch. It surrounds the hole, so different from the barren scar it had been several years before. You see them... the two figures sitting at the edge of the hole. They hold hands, the one on the left singing, Her beautiful auburn bowl cut bobbing against Her head as She hummed a tune, the figure on the right listening intently, as though His life depended on it. You see His white fur, pristine as His mother's and father's, bristle in the breeze, as you walk forward. She stopped singing abruptly, swinging Her head so She had half Her face showing. Her look of surprise quickly gave way to a warm smile. He noticed, and turned slowly... and He saw you. He looked so happy!... but it slowly gave away to a look of sadness. "Frisk...", He begins, "what are you doing here? Don't you have anything better to do..?" You shake your head, a huge grin spreading across your face as tears pour down your cheeks. You speak. **You have absolutely no idea...how long I've wanted to see you two again...* She stands up slowly, as if to try not to fall. "You idiot," She says, tears beginning to form in her eyes, "You shouldn't worry about us. Someone has to take care of these flowers..." You run forward, tackling the two into the hole, reliving the fall. But instead of the great fear you felt, wind rushing in your hair, arms franticly reaching for a handhold, you feel incredible joy. You fall, the two by you side, still shocked from what you did. As you rush towards the ground, you suddenly slow down. You settle gently onto the flower bed... seems like He really did take care of it, even after all of these years. You speak once more. You tell them something they'll never forget. You tell them something that will not be the last thing you tell them. **You idiots... You absolute IDIOTS!* You scream as you clutch them close to you, as if they would disappear into thin air if you let go **How could I not worry about you?! Aren't you my Best Friends?!?!* They seem to be in shock. Well, for heavens sake, you tackled them into what you knew was a deep fall! You could've died! And yet, you did it. You cry into their shoulders, hugging both of them, never wanting to let go. And they hug back. He begins to weep, all the emotions he couldn't feel before finally coming over him, and not for the last time. She hugs you both, and whispers, "Of course we are... of course..." At last, after what seemed like hours, so very comforting hours, you finally let go. The three of you get up, hand in hand. He looks so hopeful. She looks so determined. You say something that will keep them determined to live, for the many years to come, enough to live on, enough to have their Souls back. Enough to give them true Hope. **Now... let's go home*

I tracked back and actually missed most of the post-battle npc dialogue cause I was so sure he'd be at the flower bed at the start. I'll never let that go. What a truly bittersweet ending. Through determination to do the right thing, we convinced the one other being with near-equal determination to free all other monsters. However, this being, Asriel, was the only one who could not be saved, his soul a remnant of history and his form doomed to be an undying flower forever. Even love, hope, and compassion, which convinced him to bring about a happy ending for everyone else, are just a memory for him, one that has changed him permanently nonetheless. Asriel is such an incredibly good individual, preferring an eternity of solitude in exchange for knowledge of his true self. I have noticed that many other players would have jumped at the opportunity to give Frisk's soul to Asriel for him to regain his form. I doubt that the majority have realized that Frisk's soul is not theirs to give. The player has near-total possession over Frisk, of course, while in the underground, but once the barrier is broken then the player's destiny is fulfilled. The last decision the player makes for Frisk is whether or not they stay with Toriel, then Frisk is free to live an independent life. This is even referenced in Flowey's plea not to reset. Ultimately, the player can purify (for lack of a better term) Frisk's soul through heroic pacifism, or corrupt it through violence, but it's not the player's soul and he has no complete control over it. Attempting to give Asriel Frisk's soul would amount to having a child commit suicide then bond it to another being until that being itself dies. Sounds familiar? That's exactly what Chara did, and it cursed Asriel forever. Monsters, though possessing the ability, are not meant to capture human souls; it's essentially the monster version of selling one's human soul to the devil for power/riches/immortality. Perhaps an Asriel/Frisk bond could work, perhaps it could not. However, it would be robbing the child of a full life for a dubious prospect of renewing the life of a monster (I say dubious because six human souls were not enough for Flowey to recover his true form; what are the chances of one allowing him to do so?). It's implied very obliquely that an afterlife exists, hence why the human souls simply disappear when freed. Finally, (and ignoring this last point), if Frisk were to give up their soul for Asriel, why not do it while old and infirm rather than as a youth with a whole life ahead? If there's anything the game teaches us, though, it's always to have hope. Hope still lies for Asriel, though the answer cannot be found in the underground and is out of the reach for the player. Just because one's part is finished does not mean that nothing lies ahead. Else how would any progress at all be accomplished?

gnhtd1 Well, firstly the player exists on an entirely different plane of existence. That would not make much sense, unless if you think that after you die you could travel to the world of Undertale. It is implied that the player is using Chara's soul as a conduit to control Frisk, and obviously since it is a corrupted soul it cannot be with Asriel. It's worth noting that not everything the child does is by the player's discretion. The child sometimes walks forward on its own and the dialogue options presented are from Frisk's mind. The actions the player takes DOES have an effect on Frisk. By the end of True Pacifist Frisk is certainly warm-hearted, a great friend to the monsters and capable of resolving conflicts without violence. Conversely, in Genocide Frisk becomes more distant and aggressive; when meeting Sans the child doesn't react at all, and it moves through puzzles without humoring the skeletons. Undertale is not just an allegory of saving the world and how childlike innocence is something to be emulated; it also clearly shows the importance of example on young minds and how easy it is to sanctify or corrupt a child.
+Zorro9129 I still think hope is alive. In neutral endings Flowey tells you to strive for pacifist one. We know this is for his own ends, to get all the souls together and absorb them. However what does he tell you on pacifist ending? To let everyone be happy. And he's lost in this ending and yet he wants things to remain as they are. He doesn't tell you to play again to possibly achieve his goal or taunt you. He asks you to do that which would be best for everyone else. Is this merely the final flickers of the soul he recently possessed? Or perhaps hope that part of who Asriel was still remains in the golden flower. It's up to us to interpret is as we choose. But I take it as hope Asriel is still inside that golden flower, somewhere.
Zorro9129 I've spend some time reading up on Undertale a bit more and utlimately: just like Greil9 said the game is very open for interpretations. Even when thinking about the existence thing I'd say the game breaks the 4th wall enough to at least be considered a game or a story that is aware of itself through some characters (Flowey addressing the player directly after a pacifist run is an example of that). Just as it crossed my mind while writing this: At the end of a genocide run Chara asks the player to hand over their soul (which is Frisk's in the game) in exchange for restoring the world. This is evidence supporting that there is nothing like a corruption of their soul by Chara being there meaning that Frisk's soul techically could be with Asriel as well. But just like already said: The game's pretty open for interpretations. At that it's canon that Frisk left the Underground leaving Asriel behind anyway - no way of rewriting that.
Frisk comes home to see their human Mother after so long of being trapped underground. She greets Frisk with open arms and teary eyes, only to have Frisk tell her "I just came to get my things. I'll be living with my REAL mom from now on."

*Spoiler warning* I remember just a few weeks ago, I was playing this game and was at the Asriel boss battle, and my mom, who knows I love this game to death, was watching me play. And when his theme began playing, I started to cry like never before. And I calmed down enough to finish the battle, but the very second this song started, I was sobbing. Because when no one else was there for me, the characters of this game were, and I just felt so happy to see them all together...
"So, please." "Just let them go." "Let Frisk be happy." - Flowey don't worry, little goatbro. I am never resetting once I complete my true pacifist run.
coupled with this song, the image of frisk waking up to be surrounded by their friends, who are all so happy to see they're okay, is incredibly heartwarming
I played the Pacifist run and felt so great to hear this song. I felt so great to have achieved a happy ending where monsters can live above the surface again and Frisk can have a good life. I put the game down after that. Didn't dare want to reset knowing that I would rip them from that timeline. Unfortunately, my sister wanted to play the game herself, so at some point I had to for her sake. I'm thankful though, she's doing the pacifist run and I'm going to be guiding her to make sure she doesn't stray. And, I'm more than a little determined to hear this song again and finally put down Undertale for good. Without any reason to want to reset, or have to reset. Lemme tell you, even if we're striving for the same exact ending, I felt terrible just having to reset for my sister to experience the game herself--and knowing that she will probably get some extra bits from Sans for resetting--because I feel like I've broken a promise to myself. It's almost like, my conscious isn't going to rest easy until we put things back the way they were before I reset the game.
This track lets you know that your journey is near its end. The barrier's destroyed, everyone's families have once again been completed, and everyone seeks hope in what lies ahead in the open world. Not only does it mean something for monsters; it means something for you, too. You were the hero who lifted the kingdom from its ashes, and soon will bring humans and monsters together again.
When I hear this song it makes me remember my last day in my old home. It brings me memories of all the fun times a had with my good friends, the walks around the park, I had a good life there. This song makes me want to go back and "replay the game" and wish I would have enjoyed it better than before. I now have a very good life in my home with new friends and a great school, but my old home will always be in my heart and I shall cherish those moments.
As someone who came into this game knowing the story from beginning to end, I can confirm that you haven't truly experienced Undertale until you've played it yourself.
I will confess one thing. First time I beat this game was neutral, and because I killed Flowey, I didn't know about the pacifist run after the first playtrough. The problem was my school exams, and I was unable to play the game. To kill my curiosity during this period, I watched the Asriel bossfight, and some of the epilogue exploring. When the exams finished, I beat the game myself, just to watch the Pacifist Ending one more time.

After countless neutral and pacifist runs without being aware that there was a true ending(cause I believed that pacifist run ends once you defeat omega flowey which now I know isn't the real ending)
I finally saw a video on RUclips about the true ending and thought to myself if it was fanmade😆😆 man what kind of a fool I was....
But at the end I did it and befriending Asriel only made me all the more happy cause the one monster I hated the most throughout the game I.e. flowey turned out to be that one character who had the most painful backstory in the entire game followed by his own dad's which was heart wrenching too
Over all it was not a great journey..
But it was best one I had ever been on in a game( that's part of the reason why I dont like MMOs that much compared to RPGs )
And I know only a very few of you might have read it till this far but if you did then I am really happy to know that at least some of you could understand me( cause I have tried countless times to encourage my friends into playing it but they never showed any interest in it and turns out that I am the only one in my entire class to have played this game so that loneliness really hits me hard😔)

I'll admit, I shed manly tears. While they said that everyone would follow, I felt like this was a final goodbye. Goatmom finally came back to save me. I endured Asriel, and let him perform a final act of kindness. Sans with his puns and his best friend shtick, PApyrus with his hilarious incompetence, Undyne with her infinite determination to stick up for those she cares about, Alphys with her knowledge of machines, Asgore with his selflessness, and most importantly, Toriel. The one that cared for you, and made sure you were happy by any means. The perfect mother. I sobbed a little bit, but when the option "I want to stay with you" came up at the end, I did NOT hesitate to select it. The true pacifist ending. Pure perfection, in my eyes. Soon, Asriel, we'll rip you from that genocidal weed, and give you your own life. In the meantime, I'll take care of your parents. Nay. OUR parents.

I know why most people find the ending of Undertale bittersweet, and it is a good reason, but my reason is different.
After all the work you put in, you did it. You finally save them. You can do it over and over. But no matter what, they can't really come up to the surface and live with US, the players. Even if Flowey seems self aware, he's not, and never will be. They just say what they're programmed to say.
The characters we tried so hard to save, from meeting Toriel to saving Asriel, are just lines of code. No matter how much we love them, they can't come to life. The personality we see... It's all a lie. But when playing the game... I feel like it isn't.
When I'm playing the game, I'm fighting for them. I know they aren't real, but I love them as if they were family. When you beat the game, you know what a reset will do to them.

I think it's more about the impact the game has on you. For me, Undertale really made me a happier person, helped me to love and forgive others better, and to keep persevering. It helped me realize I've always got people who love me and will support me, even if it's taking video game characters to help me realize that, lmao. Sort of like how people have been changed by Harry Potter or The Avengers. The story and characters may be fictional, but the lesson learned, and the impact it makes on your life, are very real.

This song really tells you that its time to say goodbye. The game does give mercy that you can talk to all of your friends before leaving, but hear me out. The song captures the feeling of departure. You cant play this game for all eternity. Thats why Flowey shows up after you try to boot up the game after the True Pacifist Run. He doesn't want you back. They dont want you back. You already made them happy. Dont make them suffer from a Genocide Run or Neutral Run. And seeing a merciless beast as Flowey say those words, you wouldn't say no, would you? No, you would not. This is the best Indie game I have ever played. Goddamnit Toby, you're a genius.

Yknow, probably the worst part about Asriel staying behind is that he COULD have had a happy ending. Flower or no, he's still Toriel and Asgore's son, and as Boss Monsters their soul power would have slowly transferred to him. Eventually he'd be back to his old self and able to live a proper life, and Toriel and Asgore would be able to grow old knowing their child was alive.

Walking back all the way from the castle to the ruins, getting 10g from the ferry, getting carried across the disproportionately small gap, listening what all the monsters have to say, smiling at Toriels texts, and revisiting all these places, and everyone is just so happy... Then, talking to Asriel at the very first room in the game, again, how everyone was so happy... It made me decide to never reset the game ever again... This song reminds me of that, and everytime I open my computer and see that red heart, I want to click it and play, but then I remember, and listen to this song. Honestly I felt bad for attempting a genocide run. But sans was the one thing I could never get past. So in my timeline...Sans was successful in stopping me from reaching the point of no return. My personal headcanon is that this is Frisk's theme. (Since whether or not they have one is otherwise unspecified.) It really captures the gentleness and kindness that the character portrays in a Pacifist Route, and it only plays after you learn their name - after which, it plays during the entire playable epilogue, essentially following you as you journey through the Underground again. Among other things, I think getting to hear Frisk's theme is one of the "rewards" for choosing the Pacifist Ending, and sticking to it for this long.

i think its because knowing the fact that youre leaving asriel behind, and that the monsters are finally moving on from their once prison
but that isnt the emotional part. no, that barely makes up for half of the feelz
its knowing that chara is having to see their best friend get left behind. plus, what even happens to them?? do they finally fade away, after everything has been mended (at least, as much as it can possibly be), are they stuck with ya forever???
idk man, but one things for sure, chara saw some real crap and probably went through some real crap during the pacifist end
and its really sad, we never get to see anymore of them, all we got was their story, their *_one_* appearance, and of course, their narration, which is probably the most we ever got from them, and the most in character thing of them (if that makes sense)

its really sad that they got demonized so much, i truly believe that they were actually a good kid man, they may have accidentally ended up just starting another war, but they didnt mean to, they just wanted to repay the monsters and their new family for being so kind to them and taking them in like they were one of them

As you exit the underground, the fresh air filling your lungs. The sun sinking into the atmosphere below, you and your family standing over the mountain, watching as the night takes place.
All the happy and relaxed expressions on their faces. Toriel looks so glad and happy, Sans is finally wearing a true smile, Papyrus looks amazed, Undyne looks relaxed and cheerful, Alphys looks so confident and amazed, Asgore looks accepted and loved.
You all watch the sun set and walk off to your new lives. And you had no where else to go. So what better option than to stay with the woman you have already name your mother? As you grow on, as the Ambassador of Monster Kind, you lead the Monsters to a world of peace with the humans. Many people doubted your ability, as you were but a child, but your unwavering determination and charisma plowed through the humans' doubts. You can finally live along side your family in peace. You helped Asgore trim that one Papyrus-shaped bush. You graduated from Toriel's- no, you graduated from Mom's school. You cheer on Sans as he, absurdly as it may seme, overtook Papyrus in his car whilst riding the blue bike. You got to help Undyne gather up the courage to propose to Alphys, you got to see it happen on the beach. You get to live on, in a world where humans and monster got along.

One day, you climbed MT. Ebott. You didn't care about the legend anymore; even if you fell, you could still travel through the Underground, revisit your memories, until you got to the other side. But no, that's not why you climbed MT. Ebott that day. You had a feeling... a feeling that something you had been trying to do since you finally escaped the Underground was finally going to happen, if you just got there on time. As you climb. you remember the fear you felt, sprinting up the mountain terrain. You remember... the not-so-happy event that caused you to run away. And you smile at the happiness you found. All because you tripped on a branch, right in front of the hole, whilst wavering between cowardice and living on. You climb the mountain, up until you see the small flower patch. It surrounds the hole, so different from the barren scar it had been several years before. You see them... the two figures sitting at the edge of the hole. They hold hands, the one on the left singing, Her beautiful auburn bowl cut bobbing against Her head as She hummed a tune, the figure on the right listening intently, as though His life depended on it. You see His white fur, pristine as His mother's and father's, bristle in the breeze, as you walk forward. She stopped singing abruptly, swinging Her head so She had half Her face showing. Her look of surprise quickly gave way to a warm smile. He noticed, and turned slowly... and He saw you. He looked so happy!... but it slowly gave away to a look of sadness.
"Frisk...", He begins, "what are you doing here? Don't you have anything better to do..?"
You shake your head, a huge grin spreading across your face as tears pour down your cheeks. You speak.
**You have absolutely no idea...how long I've wanted to see you two again...*
She stands up slowly, as if to try not to fall.
"You idiot," She says, tears beginning to form in her eyes, "You shouldn't worry about us. Someone has to take care of these flowers..."
You run forward, tackling the two into the hole, reliving the fall. But instead of the great fear you felt, wind rushing in your hair, arms franticly reaching for a handhold, you feel incredible joy. You fall, the two by you side, still shocked from what you did. As you rush towards the ground, you suddenly slow down. You settle gently onto the flower bed... seems like He really did take care of it, even after all of these years. You speak once more. You tell them something they'll never forget. You tell them something that will not be the last thing you tell them.
**You idiots... You absolute IDIOTS!*
You scream as you clutch them close to you, as if they would disappear into thin air if you let go
**How could I not worry about you?! Aren't you my Best Friends?!?!*
They seem to be in shock. Well, for heavens sake, you tackled them into what you knew was a deep fall! You could've died! And yet, you did it. You cry into their shoulders, hugging both of them, never wanting to let go. And they hug back. He begins to weep, all the emotions he couldn't feel before finally coming over him, and not for the last time. She hugs you both, and whispers,
"Of course we are... of course..."
At last, after what seemed like hours, so very comforting hours, you finally let go. The three of you get up, hand in hand. He looks so hopeful. She looks so determined. You say something that will keep them determined to live, for the many years to come, enough to live on, enough to have their Souls back. Enough to give them true Hope.

I tracked back and actually missed most of the post-battle npc dialogue cause I was so sure he'd be at the flower bed at the start. I'll never let that go. I hope they add some dlc or someone finds some hidden way to save him or something. He was by far the character I was most endeared to :/

What a truly bittersweet ending. Through determination to do the right thing, we convinced the one other being with near-equal determination to free all other monsters. However, this being, Asriel, was the only one who could not be saved, his soul a remnant of history and his form doomed to be an undying flower forever. Even love, hope, and compassion, which convinced him to bring about a happy ending for everyone else, are just a memory for him, one that has changed him permanently nonetheless. Asriel is such an incredibly good individual, preferring an eternity of solitude in exchange for knowledge of his true self.
I have noticed that many other players would have jumped at the opportunity to give Frisk's soul to Asriel for him to regain his form. I doubt that the majority have realized that Frisk's soul is not theirs to give. The player has near-total possession over Frisk, of course, while in the underground, but once the barrier is broken then the player's destiny is fulfilled. The last decision the player makes for Frisk is whether or not they stay with Toriel, then Frisk is free to live an independent life. This is even referenced in Flowey's plea not to reset.
Ultimately, the player can purify (for lack of a better term) Frisk's soul through heroic pacifism, or corrupt it through violence, but it's not the player's soul and he has no complete control over it. Attempting to give Asriel Frisk's soul would amount to having a child commit suicide then bond it to another being until that being itself dies. Sounds familiar? That's exactly what Chara did, and it cursed Asriel forever. Monsters, though possessing the ability, are not meant to capture human souls; it's essentially the monster version of selling one's human soul to the devil for power/riches/immortality. Perhaps an Asriel/Frisk bond could work, perhaps it could not. However, it would be robbing the child of a full life for a dubious prospect of renewing the life of a monster (I say dubious because six human souls were not enough for Flowey to recover his true form; what are the chances of one allowing him to do so?). It's implied very obliquely that an afterlife exists, hence why the human souls simply disappear when freed. Finally, (and ignoring this last point), if Frisk were to give up their soul for Asriel, why not do it while old and infirm rather than as a youth with a whole life ahead?
If there's anything the game teaches us, though, it's always to have hope. Hope still lies for Asriel, though the answer cannot be found in the underground and is out of the reach for the player. Just because one's part is finished does not mean that nothing lies ahead. Else how would any progress at all be accomplished?

Well, firstly the player exists on an entirely different plane of existence. That would not make much sense, unless if you think that after you die you could travel to the world of Undertale. It is implied that the player is using Chara's soul as a conduit to control Frisk, and obviously since it is a corrupted soul it cannot be with Asriel.
It's worth noting that not everything the child does is by the player's discretion. The child sometimes walks forward on its own and the dialogue options presented are from Frisk's mind.
The actions the player takes DOES have an effect on Frisk. By the end of True Pacifist Frisk is certainly warm-hearted, a great friend to the monsters and capable of resolving conflicts without violence. Conversely, in Genocide Frisk becomes more distant and aggressive; when meeting Sans the child doesn't react at all, and it moves through puzzles without humoring the skeletons.
Undertale is not just an allegory of saving the world and how childlike innocence is something to be emulated; it also clearly shows the importance of example on young minds and how easy it is to sanctify or corrupt a child.
+Zorro9129 I still think hope is alive. In neutral endings Flowey tells you to strive for pacifist one. We know this is for his own ends, to get all the souls together and absorb them. However what does he tell you on pacifist ending? To let everyone be happy. And he's lost in this ending and yet he wants things to remain as they are. He doesn't tell you to play again to possibly achieve his goal or taunt you. He asks you to do that which would be best for everyone else.
Is this merely the final flickers of the soul he recently possessed? Or perhaps hope that part of who Asriel was still remains in the golden flower. It's up to us to interpret is as we choose. But I take it as hope Asriel is still inside that golden flower, somewhere.
Zorro9129 I've spend some time reading up on Undertale a bit more and utlimately: just like Greil9 said the game is very open for interpretations.
Even when thinking about the existence thing I'd say the game breaks the 4th wall enough to at least be considered a game or a story that is aware of itself through some characters (Flowey addressing the player directly after a pacifist run is an example of that).
Just as it crossed my mind while writing this: At the end of a genocide run Chara asks the player to hand over their soul (which is Frisk's in the game) in exchange for restoring the world. This is evidence supporting that there is nothing like a corruption of their soul by Chara being there meaning that Frisk's soul techically could be with Asriel as well.
But just like already said: The game's pretty open for interpretations. At that it's canon that Frisk left the Underground leaving Asriel behind anyway - no way of rewriting that.
That little jingle reprise at the end always gets me. ;_;

*Spoiler warning* I remember just a few weeks ago, I was playing this game and was at the Asriel boss battle, and my mom, who knows I love this game to death, was watching me play. And when his theme began playing, I started to cry like never before. And I calmed down enough to finish the battle, but the very second this song started, I was sobbing. Because when no one else was there for me, the characters of this game were, and I just felt so happy to see them all together...

I played the Pacifist run and felt so great to hear this song. I felt so great to have achieved a happy ending where monsters can live above the surface again and Frisk can have a good life.
I put the game down after that. Didn't dare want to reset knowing that I would rip them from that timeline. Unfortunately, my sister wanted to play the game herself, so at some point I had to for her sake.
I'm thankful though, she's doing the pacifist run and I'm going to be guiding her to make sure she doesn't stray. And, I'm more than a little determined to hear this song again and finally put down Undertale for good. Without any reason to want to reset, or have to reset. Lemme tell you, even if we're striving for the same exact ending, I felt terrible just having to reset for my sister to experience the game herself--and knowing that she will probably get some extra bits from Sans for resetting--because I feel like I've broken a promise to myself. It's almost like, my conscious isn't going to rest easy until we put things back the way they were before I reset the game.

This track lets you know that your journey is near its end. The barrier's destroyed, everyone's families have once again been completed, and everyone seeks hope in what lies ahead in the open world. Not only does it mean something for monsters; it means something for you, too. You were the hero who lifted the kingdom from its ashes, and soon will bring humans and monsters together again.
Now we wish the humans don't declare war upon the monsters once more.
When I hear this song it makes me remember my last day in my old home. It brings me memories of all the fun times a had with my good friends, the walks around the park, I had a good life there. This song makes me want to go back and "replay the game" and wish I would have enjoyed it better than before. I now have a very good life in my home with new friends and a great school, but my old home will always be in my heart and I shall cherish those moments.
As someone who came into this game knowing the story from beginning to end, I can confirm that you haven't truly experienced Undertale until you've played it yourself.
I will confess one thing. First time I beat this game was neutral, and because I killed Flowey, I didn't know about the pacifist run after the first playtrough. The problem was my school exams, and I was unable to play the game.
To kill my curiosity during this period, I watched the Asriel bossfight, and some of the epilogue exploring.
When the exams finished, I beat the game myself, just to watch the Pacifist Ending one more time.
